- Rachel Hollis, author of Girl Wash Your Face and Girl Stop apologizing has given her fair share of bad advice over the years. We take a look at an interview she gave to a motivational RUclips channel and it reveals a lot. Maybe Rachel Hollis is just a victim of bad advice herself...

Great video! New sub here.
Thank you! Welcome =)
@@KeyasWorld Greetings from Vienna, Austria
Maybe her preaching that she has an exceptional marriage at all those conferences was her trying to manifest it, but then she realized it doesn’t work and got a divorce instead lol
Good point!! She talks about fake it to you make it a lot
right?!
She is emotionally still a teenager, a very trauma filled teenager.
Totally agree!
She contradicts herself several times and doesn't even notice. WE notice.
@@daysebatista Thank you exactly like how she give people marriage advice while her marriage was going downhill. Now she's divorce.
I would also follow up with she is also very codependent which she may or may not be aware of.
@@YaLittleFriend considering she later admitted that she didn't even know what codependency was or meant (and that she had been codependant at least in some areas) until very recently you hit the nail on the head back when u made this comment!!
I am really bothered by Rachel's idea that if people don't love her, she'll just love them enough for both of them. This is toxic relationship behavior. You can have love for someone from afar, if you wish. It isn't necessary or healthy to believe that if you just love someone twice as hard, they'll love you back. You can love someone from afar, without living in toxicity.
YES. This is what I say in my comment. Love yourself, don't allow other people to bask in your love for "free", loving them twice as much. This is just what narcissists and ungrateful and self-entitled people want; don't give them MORE love, MORE of what they want. You can love them, but you can also love yourself enough to save yourself from being just a fool.
The biggest issue I have with mindsets like Rachel Hollis’, the law of attraction, and so on: it’s the toxic positivity and how it doesn’t allow for privilege, etc. …So if you aren’t succeeding, it’s your fault for not being “positive” enough.
It also ignores barriers like being from a marginalised group, having an illness/disability, and other intersecting areas of life. It’s really damaging for those who are neurodivergent or chronically ill; there’s only so much you can do, the rest is genetics and brain wiring and stuff!
I can be super positive and believe I’m healthy 24/7, but it won’t cure me, or get rid of my ASD. (Although I’d give anything to be healthy and have a normal life!)
I plan to do a video on “The Secret” which talks about this exact thing...when I read it like 10 years ago I kept thinking how can you say you bring on illness through your thoughts when little babies and children get sick...it doesn’t make sense. Positive thoughts are great but I think it’s been taken and reconstructed into a way to sell stuff.
👏👏👏
This is so spot on!
People need to develop greater critical thinking skills. As explained in the OP, it's not a one-size-fits-all, and that should be the first red flag that something isn't quite right about this kind of information.
This is so well-said. Thank you for articulating this point in a way I can't
Thank you for addressing this! You put into words exactly how it feels to listen to these manipulative people
Thank you!! I'm glad I'm not alone
The thing about wanting to "get to the top of the mountain" is that, if you're this insufferable, you're going to be at the top of the mountain all by yourself, with no easy way down. Considering she said she does not want to be relatable despite making a career out of it. She's there by herself.
It's like building a house with no windows or doors while you're still inside the house. it's real fancy but kind of pointless if you're stuck there for all eternity by yourself because you've alienated everyone else around you..
#hashtagNOBOSSBABE
I’m so grateful to the algorithm gods. I don’t know how I happened upon your video -I’ve never even heard of Rachel Hollis- but it is surprisingly helpful. You’re quite the earnest badass. Subscribed!
omg thank you do much! That's seriously such a nice thing to say =)
When you said that “you shouldn’t have to remind yourself everyday to do things you want to do,” YESSSSSS. She is PERFORMING being a good person, but she isn’t actually one.
And omg comparing herself to Ellen/Oprah... EWWWWWWW
Well shes kind of on point, at the very least with Ellen. Oprah ain't the best either
Well, Ellen, yeah
Rachel Hollis wish she was Oprah and Ellen. She thinks she's all that , We don't see Ellen and Oprah bragging about how much money they have.
I totally disagree. Some people do need reminders or how they want to act out their principles. To say it should just come naturally always is magical thinking.
I'm no believer in manifestation but reminding yourself of the person you want to be doesn't make you fake
Lol you are so right about hard work. I grew up on a farm in Canada where we all woke up between 5-6 am everyday to do chores and feed animals even in the coldest winter months. Unbelievably, we did not become multimillionaires from this hard work that lasted years. Also, is it just me but do her eyes at the end of “what makes you think I want to be relatable?” resemble the psychopathic stare? Btw great videos 👏🏻
EXACTLY!! Thank you for sharing that...there is so much luck involved in making $$$...a lot of it too is are you willing to manipulate people to profit? If not then you prob won't make as much. Thank you for watching!
That stare is terrifying...lol
Some of the hardest working people in the world are farmers and farm labourers but they are also among the poorest.
@@lemsip207 You are so right! It is hard physical work and running/working a farm is a 24/7 job. As my father would say” the cows and hogs are not going to feed themselves” Plus there are fields that must be rotated, prepared, planted, fertilized, picked etc and many barn chores such as cleaning out the animal pens and moving hay bails around. I forgot to mention that we did these chores before and after school during the school year. So tons of unending hard work. The only time a farmer might get rich is if his farm is on the outskirts of a big city that expands and eventually developers buy the land up. But that is not the case for most farmers and it is a very physically demanding and time consuming occupation with not a lot of financial reward.
A little humility would work wonders for Rachel. She's not inspiring me, she's just bragging.
Agreed
Right?! How she casually said, “John Maxwell said to me the other day....” it’s like, ok 🙄 we get it! You know famous people! 😑
I really enjoyed this discussion, it helped clarify why I have such icky feelings on this mostly white influencer/self-help community. They are so caught up in what society tells us we're supposed to be to be successful (thin, fit, kale-eating, doing yoga on a pier by the mountains, designer sneakers, curated instagram posts with multi paragraph captions) and spending all your time and energy hustling to get it that they don't even pause to wonder if that's what they really want or who they are. It is upsetting so many people look up to them and want to model this mindset.
The guy interviewing her has a look on his face like "Girl you need help" Lol 👀
Confidence comes with maturity and experience that give you insights and different perspectives, not by writing down what you want to achieve
Totally agree!
The type of life she pushes sounds exhausting, unsustainable, miserable, and inauthentic. All I see in her eyes is someone desperate and empty.
Thank you for this video, you are a realist. My sister lovingly sent me one of Rachel’s books when I was going through a hard time in my life...still going through a hard time. I was like wtf? She didn’t resonate with me at all, but I’m a realist too. Thanks for having the words to the thoughts I had in my head.
Gaww thanks for watching!
I felt the same way when I started listening to her audiobook. I returned it 😆 I could not read through it; barely got through first chapter.
Rachel is the exact example of what is an issue with the girlboss mindset: “I was just like you but now I’m who you wish you were and I make it look easy” and those two things don’t always mesh well if you believe it too much. This time it didn’t work
What she doesn't realize is that she just told all of us what we need to know - she wants to be talked about as inspirational and impactful. She doesn't care about actually being or doing those things. She simply wants to be Oprah. But, we already have Oprah. We don't need two. We need someone new that brings new things to the table. She clearly has self image issues and low confidence.
My biggest pet peeve is someone who gives motivational advice to someone who doesn’t even slightly have the same resources that they had.
Same!!!
New sub! Anyone eloquently dissecting and destroying Rachel's bullshhhh, got my vote!
Hahaha yesss thank you!
I have never had anyone criticize me for any of my dreams, I don't know anyone who has been criticized for their dreams, I think she is just making this up to seem like she is more successful than she is.
Me too! I think it's because she says she wants to be Oprah and Ellen's baby...like that's a weird dream lol
I did have abusive parents and partners that shamed me for aspirations and goals. But I dont think Racheal Hollis has ever gone through that lol
Had to pause to say that I'm experiencing the same thing about being a "fan" of self help and now that I've been going down the therapy and trauma side of things, I see things wayyy differently now. Thanks for sharing your experience of this realization.
No problem! Glad I'm not alone =)
It's regrettable that she also made money from MLM companies that are extraordinarily wrong.
100%!
“It’s gonna be you getting up early, and running the miles, and eating kale. It’s gonna be you.” 🙄
Who is this supposed to entice? Is that supposed to be my life’s goal to get up at 4 am to drink a kale smoothie? Thanks, I’ll pass. I’d rather just earn enough money to pay the bills and be comfortable in a normal, “relatable” life, eat what I want and enjoy lazy mornings in bed. Cheers.
I absolutely love your perspective ❤ fantastic video!! I fully agree with your points and also mega kudos for doing the deep work on yourself, I know from experience the courage it takes to look inwards 😊💜💜
I absolutely LOVE you!!!! :) i want to hear your opinion on Everything! Including your GREAT videos on possible faking an illness, And Rachel Hollis. and PLEASE keep going with these stories. You are so GREAT!!! THANK YOU!
Well in that case.... hahha thank you so much!!!
I agree with you! I was a Rachel follower for a couple of years, did the journal thing, listened to all her stuff...felt totally duped!!
She's really out here acting like she didn't have a HUGE leg up by marrying a Disney executive.
Yeah that's really my big gripe too...I talk about it in my other video talking about dave. ruclips.net/video/GP4hnWRjqMs/видео.html
I love when you said, "You are made for more, no, you are enough!" That really resonated with me and I thought wow that's powerful. Thank you so much. New sub here! :-)
11:55 you made a really good point here! Peoples' reactions to what you're doing isn't always about them being jealous.
Was just recommended your content and I’m loving your input. You provide a lot of substance and constructive criticism in your reaction that’s super refreshing to see in commentary channels.
Thank you!! Appreciate that.
She married her dad, being humble means being truthful but not bragging 😍
I don't know how I came into these videos but thankyou YT recommendations! Never heard of Rachel hollis before but she is the literal embodiment of privilege.
Also I love the video, can’t wait to see more content from you!☺️
Edit: would love content on other “guru” types, I think your take on Tony Robbins would be interesting.
100%!! I can’t wait to dive into him
I just discovered your channel. Love it, subscribing! Keep up the good work.
Anyway, "I'm like if Oprah and Ellen had a child". Huge narcissist vibes right here. Ouch!
Welcome aboard! I know right?!? lol that is TOOOO much for me.
Seems like her parents created the Narcissist he is today 😔
Love your content, Keya! Would love to learn more about your life and how you became so wise! Best wishes
Thank you so much!! One day I'll share my story hah =)
Rachel Hollis is like a milder female version of Tony Robbins and she plagiarises a lot.
I'm impressed with your wisdom. New subscriber here, after watching like three or four of your videos purely by chance (and loving all of them, because your words can help a lot of people who are still in this toxic positivity cloud of delusion).
Can’t sell tickets to retreats if your message is “you are enough” instead of “here is how to be better”
Think what you want of Oprah and Ellen, but both of them fought for their careers and faced adversity beyond what she can imagine in order to reach where they are. They broke down barriers and became representation for marginalized groups. Their goals had to do with what they wanted to create, not how they wanted others to perceive them. So I'm sorry but this girl couldn't even ever come close
They were both industry plants. As are their stories.
Lol why would some random girl from 8th grade give a damn if I sign up for a half marathon 🤣🤣
Love your content. All of it. I hope you keep going I enjoy the fake illnesses and the motivational speakers. Keep up the great work.
OMG Thank you!!!
This Motivation video is just more evidence that “we” or “our society “ values thinness more than, intellectual pursuits, commitment to social causes, ethical business practices etc. Here in the US being thin means you are smart, hardworking, committed, and successful. Rachel is correct about some of the dynamics we as women face, but she has proven to exploit, abuse trust, plagiarize, and be a fraud. Her business practices have hurt women, not “rise” them up. She is an anti-advocate. Her business of exploitation has contributed to some women struggling more and longer than they to. The thousands that she had women invest in her businesses and MLM’s could have been invested in a dependable car, education, health care, therapy and even their own small businesses.. she is a DB!
As a devout Christian these “self-help gurus” make me sad and scared. I believe that I can’t do it all on my own, I can’t be in total charge of my whole life, I can’t be truly successful all on my own - I need Jesus.
On the flip side, the motivational parts sound so much like what you hear from these modern mega church pastors. There are so many things I’ve heard from these self-help people that sound almost religious even though it’s secular.
She needs to focus on accepting and loving herself for who she truly is. Not hoping she'll get it from others and then being purposefully ignorant when that doesn't happen. Just my 2 cents. Great video!
100% Agree. Thank you for watching!!
I’m at the finish line with you! Good video! You have a soothing voice and calm presence.
Gawww thank you so much!
Those little B roll clips Rachel had are hilarious.
"It's gunna be you eating the kale and doing all the crap" - yes, if you eat that much kale you will be doing allll the crap.
"It's GUNNA be you" ahem, it's gonna, tyvm /s BUT ALSO how quirky and relatable that she spells it out like she talks
“I see the Ellen element”
Kill me 😂😂
You think very clearly. You have very good critical thinking capability. Not many people have that. I'm glad that you make videos and share with us how you think.
Thanks for the video!
On the manifesting thing - I feel like people, especially these influencer, self help type people tend to focus on the tangible as it can be seen and proven to others easily which might make them feel more like they have achieved something, or more importantly that others can see that they have achieved something. Intangible goals such as fulfilment are harder to prove or show to others as a personal success as opposed to something tangible like money or weight loss as you mentioned. It sometimes feels less about what they as a person are doing to improve themselves but instead what they are doing to show others how good they are and to get the validation from others that they are succeeding.
Rachel Hollis infuriates me to no end. I have seen a lot of my friends follow her and adopt her mindset and they all have seriously unresolved issues from suppressing their feelings and adopting her toxic positivity. It makes me enraged and so sad. Her approaches are condescending and a holier than thou attitude is dangerous.
Yeah same! I think it has a lot to do with childhood issues...all these gurus seem to have been mistreated by their parents in some way and then are giving advice out as if they have overcome it....but it's just unresolved.
@@KeyasWorld 100%!!!!
I'm really late to this video, but I wanted to say thank you - I really appreciate hearing your take - makes so much sense
What stands out in her videos to me is how easily she can lie to get what she wants. I’ve heard her tell several stories like that. It just goes against everything I know and have been taught. Maybe I’m way too honest for my own good. I don’t know it’s just really made me rethink everything lol.
So you are extremely well spoken and you explain things so well!
Omg thank you so much!
Thanks for contrasting Rachel's HORRIBLE advice with sound advice. She's dangerous, it's great her platform has decreased so much, and I hope it doesn't increase while she keeps spreading this toxicity.
Let us all be careful to not undermine anyone. The one that we see as the other is just another par of our very own consciousness. Let us make all pats of our consciousness move in harmony with each other by...Loving all things and everyone.
Being someone who listens to this kind of music (this track in particular is one of my favorites) a lot, it annoys me to no end when it gets used for dishonest/manipulative messaging like that.
But I do get that the composers gotta make money too, and they probably don't get to pick and choose who buys license to their music.
I think that she means when she says she won’t be sorry for having goals and dreams, she means that she will not feel any shame for wanting to make money at any cost. She just was to be a “mogul”, to be rich, because she thinks it will make her happy and her deep shame go away
Rachel is all about cashing in and being #unrelatable
"I'm gonna love so hard..." - that I'll hurt myself each and every time, but I'll keep going. Yeah. Right. You know what? I recently stopped all the drama I'd been living with when I decided that although I love some people, their reciprocity is no longer required, BUT I'll stop trying to seek their love and I will love MYSELF more and stop being a fool.
Your channel is great. I have been interested in the opium of platitude vortices for some time now and Hollis (along with other positivity experts) are a symptom of the larger issue. Reaching out for help or for a form of therapy is absolutely fine and people should (when necessary) avail themselves of help. The problem here is not in the seeking help. It's that too many people hear noted quote plagiarist Hollis talk about authenticity and don't see the problem. Credulity is OK.
Great job on the video! Thank-you!
Your expressions add to the explanation very well!
I literally did a podcast episode titled “It’s OK to Hate Kale” 😂😂
YESSSS! There are other foods!!
Wwjd
When my neighbor lost her sense of taste with covid the doctor joked "now is the time to eat kale salads". Kale is gross.
@@Skittl1321 oh my goodness, that makes me want to SHAKE that doctor!!!!
“Is this the Joker’s backstory?” 🤣🤣🤣 I have to subscribe after that. I laughed out loud. The ad that popped up after that was about emotional abuse by a partner…
Well done, she definitely needs to do some inner child work and heal from within. I hope she can heal and learn to reparent herself and let go of the resentment and maybe be an example instead of bleeding all of those who didn’t hurt her. There are so many of us who have inner child wounds and carry that burden of “be seen and not heard” and there’s a much better way she could have used her platform in the past.. I hope she uses this as a turning point to do good for those of us and ACTUALLY can relate .. my heart hurts for Rachel.. it all starts with healing the inner child.: her family life as a kid doesn’t sound great but she has a chance to do so much and stop resenting it !
I totally agree...it's kind of weird that when you start to investigate these self help gurus pasts...most of them have parent trauma. Very interesting. Thanks for watching!
Self help is fake. 😴🤔
LOL i'm starting to agree with this more and more everyday!
She spoke at an mlm conference. She means she literally doesn't know the difference from a business and a scam. Or she is knowingly advising someone to get scammed. Either way, I'm not listening to her advice. Oprah wouldn't do that.
Would love to see a video on Derrick Jackson!!
Thanks for the video.
Just wanted to chime in, the idea of writing down the result instead of the goal could actually be a great way to decouple "working out" from body size. Going to the gym to be able to do a pull up rather than lose weight is a much better approach to fitness.
I just see the working out to "not be fat" thing around so much and it makes me sad.
Luv Yr vids! Yr amazing! Thank U ❤️❤️❤️🧡💛💚💙💜☮️☀️☀️
I'm convinced that Rachel Hollis is a hard worker and has busted her ass. Great! HOWEVER, what she refuses to acknowledge that is so infuriating, is that one thing that absolutely, 100% "worked for" Rachel Hollis was that when she shared that post that went "viral," that was a lot of luck. When she was able to work on her books and business because her husband was RICH. When she was able to take time to "hustle" because their bills were paid and they had influential/rich/famous connections. I know that women like Rachel don't want to acknowledge privilege, but she had PRIVILEGE. I could get up at 4 fucking AM every day of my life, and HUSTLE ALL DAY, and still not be a nationally recognized author and speaker for years, if ever. There is privilege and luck swirling all around her and she acts like anyone who "wakes up at 4 AM like I did" can be a raving success. (Then she makes her famous "What makes you think I want to be relevant" video and we wonder what the hell she's ever even talking about. Do you want others to be "awesome and successful" like you or don't you?) She may have climbed to the top of some ladder and made a bunch of money, but she's not smart and she doesn't know any huge secret. Sorry.
Her version of what u should put in writing is crazy! Imo the only things worth writing in ur diary are ‘what I appreciate today list’ , affirmations - But only being Real 💯 no BS! & a ‘to do list’ - where if u Don’t manage to tick everything off - that’s OK! Don’t beat Yr self up! Life ‘happens’ things get in the way, unexpected things happen etc etc. goals are good but if u don’t get there today, that’s OK, Yr only human! Never beat Yr self up 4 it! Her way is just SAD!🤣 Don’t do it!! B kind to Yr self:) 😊😊☀️☀️❤️❤️💚💙💜☮️
i dont know why motivational speakers like this gain any traction. is the empty platitude going to fill someones bank acct with money so they can pay their bills or make their divorce stop happening? no. its not. so ten seconds after theyre done, the magic is gone.
Sorry that I am late to the game, but I am loving your content!
HAHA! Me TOO! So happy to have found this channel and happily binge-watching! 🙌🏼😆
New subscriber! Love this video ❤️
Thanks for subbing!
The work she needs to do is deprogramming
Rachel thinks women's biggest issue is what will people think of her because she herself is so extremely superficial. When the real barrier is usually socioeconomic factors. Plenty of women with the resources who want to run marathons do. Single moms working 2 jobs who want to run marathons don't care what people think. They just don't have the resources. God her blindness to her privilege is so exhausting and her superficial attitude is infuriating.
Yes spot on!
I think I slightly disagree with the “you shouldn’t have to remind yourself everyday” while I do think Rachel is probably a narcissist and just wants to look good to other people, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with writing down goals to be a better wife & mother. I think a lot of people get lazy and take the most important people in their life for granted. I want to spend more time with my kids and that means I need to get my crap done and make sure I read them a book early bc if I wait too long bc I’m being lazy and watching RUclips videos I’ll get tired and not want to do it. However I don’t really write that stuff down but a lot of times I do schedule little things in so that I can be a better mom or a happier less stressed mom.
That makes sense! Thanks for commenting!
Love ur content!! New sub here 😁😁
Your videos are great. New subscriber!
Gaww thank you so much!
I’m a know-nothing nobody TOO! 🙌🏼😆 I love your videos thus far and you provide excellent commentary and great points. I love it! Thanks for making this content!
New subscriber! Just binged your content!

If you're looking for therapy, contact your doctor and ask for a referral to a therapist in your network, you should only have to pay your copay for the sessions, not the out of pocket price. (This price/info can vary depending on insurance. Call your insurance company to see what is covered or what the copay would be )
Good luck to you and I'm sending good vibes for your healing and growth!
I have Kaiser, for example. I got a referral to a therapist that is not a Kaiser doc, but works in the Kaiser network. I pay $25 a session instead of the $200/session it would be out of pocket.
Great video. Love how you keep it real. When’s you’re book coming out. Lol
Maybe one day! =) thanks for watching!! My title will be Girl Go to Therapy
Hope more people watch your videos about her. !! Such toxic messages she sends
Personally, in that video, I think she had a psychotic break. But she always leaves out her secret of success was to marry a millionaire. Step one.
They all do it!! SOOOOO frustrating
Humblebrag on 10,000
Exceptional doesn’t seem real or achievable, we cannot achieve perfection, we weren’t created to be independent from God.
Why has Rachel Hollis got slugs above her eyes?
ha!!
Yeh Whoa… her relationship talk is legit Dangerous!😳😳 Just Noooooooo!!
Amazing video/content.. 🦄
Had to subscribe 💗
Yay! Thank you!
Exceptional, as we know in hindsight, is just a label that is important to Rach. It's all about Rach's image. This podcast is a glossy infomercial for a future Rise conference..
Nah, she is not Oprah. Oprah isn't perfect or anything, but, she has done much more than Rachel holis. Just damn, the ego.
Can you do a deep dive on Impact Theory???
ooo that's a great idea!
-How is is NOT obvious that Rachel's whole brand on working hard and climbing the mountain and achieving are what you should want to do in life is based on the fact that, when she was a kid, if she didn't achieve, she was nothing? That's SO obvious. Her motivations are rooted in feeling like her worth was tied to her physical achievements and social standing. And she even identifies that as a problem that her parents made them all feel. And it seems like she's made the connection that she's transferred this internalization to her adult life...but she doesn't transfer the idea that it's problematic? Like, for everyone else, it's healthy. She's basically doing what her dad did to herself all those years ago to the masses. And then telling them that if they want to stop and take a break (her rant on "it's OK if all you did today was breathe"), it's BS and someone should call you out on being lazy. I am speculating, but I am sure the little Rachel Hollis probably, at some point, wanted to pause and breathe one day and not have to achieve to get attention. And someone made her feel like that wasn't acceptable.
Women have always been told to work ourselves to the bone as a mother and wife, not as a person. But she's swung the pendulum the other way: work to be independent and you... but work yourself to the bone to prove yourself and make something of yourself. It's a dichotomy that does nothing but leave women exhausted and unfulfilled emotionally.
TLDR: Fuck her. This woman has no personal insight, and so you can't trust her to provide any quality insight for your own life.
"Now I'm like...Oprah". Um, tread lightly my dear, that's quite the claim.
No! No! No! Rach is doing the humble brag SO SHE IS RELATABLE. Rach, at least on that day, wants everyone to think she is on the same journey as everyone. (With the notable exception of ex hubby Dave. Clearly Rach doesn't sail ..) And then subtly introduces Neural Linguistic Programming? The Tony Robbins Effect..
I think she was talking about in business meetings
