Great video! Picked up Antinomy and Seasons of Rice from the reprint campaign. The 1st leaders expansion for Ancient Realms is coming very soon. It adds goals and milestones that I know you wanted from the Ancient Realms review. Hope to see more Button Shy reviews in the future.
I’m totally in agreeance. I would LOVE to see Button Shy expand into larger deck games. So many great games with more than 18 cards: For Northwood!, Skoventyr, and Unreliable Wizard to name a few.
I'd agree if they seemed to be running out of 18 card games, but if anything their output recently is better than ever. BS manage to scratch my itch of getting regular new experiences without breaking the bank so long may they continue I say. :-D They've found their niche and they are incredibly good at it.
Developing a 18 cards game is also quite a hard limitation in term of design. I really admire the designers that managed to cram something fun in such a small package.
Nice video. FWIW 4 out of the 6 games on tap today have an official solo mode -- the 2 that do not are Party (Picky) Pixies and Seasons of Rice. I was hoping to hear your thoughts on Antinomy solo (it sounded like you had the expansion to make it possible) but, given how lukewarm you felt towards the base 2p game, I'm not going to hold my breath.
You got a few things wrong with your overview of Antinomy, first the name (it's not AntiMoNy but AntiNoMy), second, you must move to your right the exact number as written on the card played, third, the paradox is made with the cards in your hand (after an action) and not on the continuum. I wonder if you would like the game better with the correct rules. To me it feels like a nice puzzle to solve to play your card and to get to a valid paradox, so I'm intrigue by this game (I have yet to get it though).
I feel this isn’t the first time I have seen Alex (or other reviewers) give a review based off of incorrect rules. When reviewing Button Shy games in particular, there are only 18 cards and typically very few rules… it’s unfortunate that even then it can be played completely wrong and given the wrong impression.
Was I the only one that was disappointed that Alex did not continue the bit about putting the other times he sung that song in the corners? I was so hoping that the other 3 times would have populated those corners and so that the next time he would have been surrounded by himself singing. Maybe even going all out at some time and giving us a "Brady Bunch" like intro in the future.
Picky Pixie just seems like a smaller version of Zendo, but more restrictive (as in you don't get much choice of the patterns that get submitted for approval).
Absolutely agreed, that's a great comparison. For me. I tend to appreciate certain types of games having smaller formats. I think zendo is objectively better as a game, but for me I would rather have this one because of the smaller form factor, the ability to travel and the lower cost
Tussie Mussi has a solo expansion. I play it all the time on my breaks
Came to comment this too. It’s a really good one too!

I definitely am interested in that stuff
Solo Converge was a really good surprise!
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Thanks for the review! Converge started as a 2p game but I'm really happy with how the solo mode came out.
Nice :)

Yes!
A lot of them have quite a few expansions so effectively moving well beyond 18 cards.

That starter song was legit good

Ya...some solo modes I like to try....others the game might not compel me enough

Which other tile laying games for 2p that are just as short do you mean?
I don't know if there are others that are as short, but there are others that are better.
You are definitely playing some of theses games very wrong 😅
