I dig it when a dude of his caliber hangs with the people. It lets you know what they're all about. Tab is as humble as they come ... thanks for posting this.
Gotta desire to hear the signature sound that resonates when Tab breaks out a guitar. Not an easy thing to do. His talent is rare. his personality along with the vocals accompanied by his band are such joy to experience. Time stands still,no what I mean to express is when Tab breaks out the guitar, well I get struck ,I forget about everything that I have planned cause all I can do is shut up ,sit down and listen. it can be about crawfish, monkeys,or music,I get stuck, like I do when I jump out of the pirogue in the swamp, the gumbo mud sucks you right down. Well thanks Tab for the music, and everything that you and the Band stand for. I am from New Orleans and look forward to hearing from you! Who Dat Say they gonna beat them Saints
Great video! He is coming to Maryland next week.I think I need to buy a ticket and go see this man.Just discovered him recently and love his work. It's nice to go to a show where a performer talks to his audiance. To laugh and have fun with them is a big plus.
Just saw him again here in Minneapolis at The Cabooze last weekend (3/10/12) with The Butanes and with Michael Ducet (of Beausoleil) on fiddle and legendary Louisiana Zydeco accordianist Chubby Carrier. It was billed as Tab Benoit's Swampland Jam. Absolutely Stunning!!! I lived in NOLA for 12 years until Katrina. Being at this show transported me right back to Louisiana for a few short hours. I am grateful!!!! Lassaize le bon temps roulez!!!
For the two thumbs down people......FU. If you ever met this man you will realize what a real musician and person is like. He never turns down a picture or autograph. Tab sipping his favorite drink Courvoisier
This is really funny, so is he, I can attest. I hung out w/ him when I was lucky enough to play The Michael Arnone Crawfish Festival w/ Mitch Woods as a Rocket 88. Funny, laid back dude.
I've seen Tab dozens of times, since he's a hometown boy, and I love his stories. The hecklers can get lost. I love the way Tab acts towards them. The last time I saw him, he gave a woman her money back and told her to shut up.
I have NO idea why Tab is not as big or as well regarded as Stevie Ray Vaughn! Ive seen both live a couple times and they are both pretty much evenly Awsome!!! East Texas and Southern Louisiana have very similar guitar styles. Tab deserves his place up with the Great Ones (Hendrix, Vaughn, Johnson, Ledbetter etc...).
I have seen Stevie with Jeff Beck. Robert Cray. Clapton, tons of times...Mark Knopfler too, but you're right. Tab live is a true experience! I think he could be on the same pedestal as other great guitar players, but I think he chose artistry over fame. He plays tons of live shows, and sticks around after he's done playing. Cream of the crop, and a humble gentleman. He makes having a beer with a legend accessible to everyone!
The heckler is Terance Brown. He was being rude to Todd Sharpville on facebook and was exposed. Terance just wanted all the attention and didn't get it.
We saw him play in Massachusetts last summer. Some drunken women in the back of the audience were enthusiastically calling out song requests with garbled voices, Tab's comment was, "Drunken Bostonians..... I'm gonna need a translator for y'all! Babel ain't quite figured that shit out yet!". He's hysterically funny, and a very high-energy performer. Go see him live! We were so knocked out by the show that we flew to Louisiana for his Voice of the Wetlands Festival last October.
He just needs to shut the fuck up and play!! Hahaha...kidding. Have loved Tab for years, always makes me laugh when he talks and makes my foot tap for some reason when he plays.
Imagine if you could sit and have lunch and a beer with Tab and hear stories about his childhood. Even better would be to sit and have lunch with Tab's *mother*, who must have some really good stories that maybe even Tab himself doesn't want to share! Hmm, perhaps at the Voice of the Wetlands Festival next year, the premium raffle item ( to raise money for the Wetlands Foundation) should be to have lunch with Tab and his family, maybe out at the "camp", around that big table piled with crawfish. I would have bought several hundred dollars worth of raffle tickets to have a shot at that prize!
