Look at my boy Tab...lol. Made his way to the Michael Palmisano RUclips empire. I love it. Thanks for covering him Michael. He and I are from the same hometown and I've had the privilege of playing several of the same festivals as him many times. Such an underrated guitarist, great vocalist and he's proud of his Cajun heritage.
I saw this guy play numerous times in college. He was like Buddy Guy, SRV, and Cajun Gumbo pouring out of a Telecaster with volume at 10. 👍 I can't wait to revisit
Good way to describe him. When I lived in Denver he made regular visits because he had family there. What a treat, because he's probably one of the most under rated blues guitarists I've ever seen. I didn't recognize him at first because I'd never seen him with long hair. Can't wait to see him again.
Saw him in New Orleans I was right against the stage about five feet away from his twin reverb he kept dimed the whole night, incredible player no doubt, I had no idea the greatness I was about witness when he walked out on the stage.
My beautiful Bride and I danced to "Darkness" by Tab Benoit at our wedding. She trusted me to pick the song and went into it totally blind, she had never heard it. She still cries when she hears it to this day years later. I've been watching this cat play live since the late 80's in south Louisiana when that tele neck still looked like maple. Tab is the real deal.
Damn!!! That is the absolute best cover of that song I have ever heard, the voice, the tone, the note choices from every member was spot on! Otis would be proud!!!
Tab is an awesome player and a great guy. Spent a couple hours with him once, and really nice, humble and funny guy. No pedals, just straight into his 2 amps and great tone.
Tab is one of the best blues guitarist alive today! He feels every note that he plays and sings. No pedals or effects, just a volume knob and lots of soul! Terrence Higgins on drums and Cory Duplechin on bass are always tight and know how to help him shine. If you can see this Trio live do it! The energy is raw and the performance is always top notch. Tab is the real deal. Thanks for doing this video, your insights and enthusiasm are always appreciated!!
I was in law school in Birmingham Alabama from 1995 to 1997. There was a cop who had gone back to law school and was one of my classmates. She turned me on that Tab was coming to town. I saw him at Five Points Music Hall and watched him just melt the faces of the audience. As a guitar player who had always played a Telecaster, I was just blown away. Moved to Nashville in 98 and got to see him during covid at the famous Ryman Auditorium with a limited audience. There was probably four hundred of us sitting 6 feet away from each other and we could yell requests. Samantha Fish opened up and was awesome as well.
The ol 5 points music Hall..... bringing back memories of seeing Gravy open for Robert Cray there once. I've seen Tab twice, at Zydeco's, just up the hill from 5 points, great to see him live.
@@BigAlGoodwin I became friends with Rob from Gravy. Chris ("the Kid") subbed for our drummer once. He is in Baltimore nowadays, still playing. Last I spoke with him 4-5 months ago, he was planning a move back to Alabama.
YES! I have been telling people to check out Tab Benoit for ages now. Such an underrated musician. I had the honor of seeing him live in Evanston, Illinois a few years back and he tore the place up as well as being hilarious between songs.
Tab Benoit is a monster on guitar. (Old school). Being from New Orleans what can I say. Tab Benoit is an icon not only here, but world wide. If y’all have a chance come see Tab playing at Jazz Fest. (April in N.O.). Terrence Higgins is killing it on drums as well as the guy playing the B3 Organ. Thank you for playing this beautiful song.
Love your channel and love Tab Benoit. This video barely scratches the surface of his amazing talent. My wife and I saw him live at a blues bar in Kansas City, when I was at the Army's Command and Staff College, and a few years later in Baltimore, when I was training at DIA at Bolling AFB. Made me wish I'd devoted 27 years to music instead of to the military. Thank you, Mr. Tab Benoit and Mr. Palmisano, for your service to the Nation!
Just wanted to say... you’ve so quickly become my favorite guitar channel on RUclips. I love how descriptive and in depth you go, it helps so much and your passion is so greatly appreciated!! Keep doing what you’re doing!
Back in the 90's I drove dirt track, and three brothers from Houma whose family owned an oil industry company, had a Toyota Celica in Benoit Red and Yellow lettering (if you spent any time in south Louisiana you'd see the company vehicles driving around the bayous) that I raced against. Barry was the one who drove the most, but Tab drove from time to time. He'd not be at the track one week and the next we'd ask where he was at, and he'd say "Had a gig." Then I quit driving for the car owners, and a few years was a delivery man for an auto parts supplier and I'd see signs saying Tab Benoit was playing at bars and clubs all around south Louisiana. Then one morning he is on a Morning Radio show, and they played "Nice And Warm". Damn, Tab. Ya never said you were that damned good. some years later again, I'm walking through a Borders Books (sign of age there) and lo, there is Tab on the cover of Guitar magazine. Except for the now long hair, and when it was still short a few years back, the grey peppering, he looks the same as back then. I can't say that about myself. (I got fat and bald) Thanks for the nostalgia.
favorite youtube teacher analyzing my favorite living guitar player. good way to end the week. if anyone has a chance to see Tab live, you won't be disappointed. he's funny as hell and to quote an uninitiated friend I took to a concert "that was bad ass" and "he has a monstrous tone"...coming from a metal guy.
and I want to go to a concert with Michael, just to see if he has the same facial expressions he has watching these videos. I love the fact he looks like he is so excited by the music.
There is no substitute for Tab. His style can never be simulated because he plays his songs different every time so well delivered. Pro never to be beat.
seen Tab 30+ times, gets better every show!! bought a Blond Thin-line Telecaster remake, for Tab to sign, and followed him on "MY" Tab vacation in 2013 down through Florida. My wife and I had him sign it at each show. It hangs on my wall with pride. I have Been on his tour bus, drank his Courvoisier out of his Black Solo cups. Great times!!!
Did you get the mitch hedberg feeling from him when he would talk with the audience? I loved how he would start out with a few songs and take requests in the middle and end with his few selected songs.
I remember requesting some Tab when you first started the guitar teacher reacts series. Thank god you’re finally getting around to him because he’s the man. Shelter me is awesome by him. Keep doing your thing Michael we’re all lovin it.
Tab is an amazing talent. His albums are great. But he really comes alive in a LIVE performance. I’ve seen him numerous times over the years and he just keeps getting better. By far my favorite blues artist today.
Man i think tab is playing in Atlanta in December 2023 i want to go so badly but i hate going to Atlanta. But im going to try to make it. I doubt i will but im going to try.. i want to hire tab personally to perform in my backyard seriously hopefully one day ill get to do that for my dads bday that would be awesome...
I saw a Guitar Player article (1994?) reviewing Tab and took a chance on his second album (What I Live For). He instantly become one of my favorite players, mixing rock, blues, funk, and Cajun like no one else. Michael, you killed it on this "react."
So stoked to see Tab on here!! I randomly caught a show of his when I was back home for a weekend and he blew me away. One of the best blues guitarists out there right now.
Love Tab, he is so minimalistic and that makes it even more enjoyable. Saw him in Birmingham last year and it made all the crap we went through seem like nothing. Power of good music!
He used to come through Birmingham a couple times a year when I lived there. I was there with bells on every time. Always played very small venues & I even talked to him several times after shows. He'd come out to the merch table & talk to anyone & everyone. He's the real deal & monster player.
I've just become a Tab fan and I can't thank you enough for not only your ability to unlock Tab's playing for a returning guitarist but also your obvious enjoyment of watching him perform. Thank you!
You are one of the very few willing to tackle a Tab Benoit style playing. Thank you so much. I’ve been a follower of Tabs for years now. But so hard to find any instructions on his style of playing. I’m very grateful sir for this! 👍🎸
I worked at The Bottom Line in NYC many moons ago, and Tab played there a few times when I worked there. He and his band were awesome, and cool, down to earth guys. I saw Tab live several times and he has something special.
Saw tabwith his bass player and drummer about eight or 10 years ago at a small outside show by the river in South Bend Indiana, first time I ever saw him live and I was blown away by how good he is, and how good the band is, thank you for having him on your channel and working through this song the way you do
Tab Benoit plays the best version of Matchbox blues I've ever heard!! Even saw Stevie Ray do it Live back in the early late 80's early 90's . Trying to pick it out note for note now from a Live youtube video. It would be a cool video to pick that one apart too. IMO it's a much more fun song to play, as you'll see in the video the band gets really into it. The bass player changes the bassline up with walks toward the end that brings the song to a crescendo. I don't know how I just heard Tab Benoit for the first time about 8 months ago, lol
Damn that was a lot of theory. I rewound several times for the explanations and my brain hurts. I’m sure it will make sense at some point. I like knowing why things sound good.
Tab and Robert Cray can capture an entire room and hold them in their palm forever, at will. I've seen Tab probably 15 times. One of my top 3 or 4 entertainers ever.
I'm not a guitar player period. BUT I'm a huge music fan. Tab, Cory and the guys have brought me to a place in music appreciation that is beyond words. Seeing your reaction and explanations of his playing is awesome. Tab considers himself a drummer playing guitar. I'm headed out to see Tab and Cory on March 14, 2024 again. Thanks for the lessons! I've subscribed so maybe I can learn more! u
Thank you for your reaction to this song. I remember seeing his set on PBS at a blues festival about 12 years ago and fell in love with his playing. I finally was able to see him live with lightning Malcom last month. He is so good live. Definitely one of the best blues players out there today. And his mannerisms and canter when he talks to the audience reminds me so much of mitch hedberg.
Holy... Tab is one of my all time favorite guitar players, and this is probably one of, if not the, favorite song he does. Thank you so much for breaking this down for us.
Michael, your passion for the music is utterly infectious. I feel 100 IQ higher whenever I watch your videos even though I don’t understand anything but a couple of words of what you’re saying just yet! Your literal excited expressions (like a kid at Christmas) to your nerd-out forensic analysis, and your insane hard earned skill in mimicking the seemingly impossible lick, are all so inspiring. Signed up to your course. No brainier. Back in the day it was like £20 an hour. I pay that monthly for as many lessons as I can gobble up and get through. Loving every lesson so far man. Been playing for years but never took the time with the knowledge. You made me want to. Hope I’m back here 5 years, being able to follow 100% of your analysis!
No one plays like Tab. So much elegance yet so simple. Not too hot, not too cold. Just right. Dude is no slouch on drums either. Thanks for doing this video!
Tab Benoit is my favorite. I've seen him 33 times now. Never disappoints. Corey Duplichin is an excellent bassist. They've been together for a while now. He's also dropped about 200 Lbs. since this video. I know this is 2 years old but i hope you have others from him.
Tab Benoit and friends are freaking awesome....i forgot who turned me on to them, but I'm so so happy that they did. I hope that your students can learn from this. I would love to hear derivatives of Tab...or ...mo betta blues!
Mr Michael I only recently started playing in my 40's after my father's passing. He tried &tried when I was a kid I was just not in to it in 1980! It's been seven years now I take notes rewatch video parts just seems like I get NO where. I Can play along with some great music I just don't seem to be able to make my own music..my dad played with a group called the Shatter tones back in the day. Alot of covers to be honest great music though. From Ccr to Sonny and Cher,Srv,hendrix, Meatloaf, The band...anyways I've just recently discovered JJ.Grey&The Mofro and holy smokes this guy Tab" new fan 4life " plays with the same soul..It's shining bright! I just wanted to say thanks for all you do! The time you give & inspiration you provide..Thank You Sir. If buy chance could you possibly do some JJ or Tesla? 4 80's 90's hard Rock kid in his late 40's now Thank you again Sir
My TB memory: I saw him in a tiny SF club owned by John Lee Hooker, The Boom Boom Room. Of course, it was solos all night. When the drummer's solo turn came, Tab had him slide over in the middle of the solo. Without missing a beat, TB finished up the drum solo for him. It's good to be boss...
Anyone that's not seen Tab live needs to plan it .. absolutely amazing live performance. Last time I saw him, at Zydeco's in Birmingham Alabama, he actually played drums with the opening bands complete set.
God, I love that slow blues from somebody who gets it. I saw Tab in a little club called "Ruby's Roadhouse" in Mandeville, Louisiana a while back. He's a treasure.
I've seen Tab probably 6 times. First in the early 90s. And last time 3 years ago, where he pointed out that he was using no pedals except one for the lights and a delay or phaser or something like that for a certain song or two. I always forget how good his voice is until I listen again. It sounds buttery smooth here. We go deep, we go nerdy... Love this channel.
You have great guitar knowledge I love the way you break dow Tab Benoit "These Arms of Mine" unfortunately half the time i don't have a clue what the heck you are talking about! What the heck is a diminished triad? I'm going to look it up! I'm looking to learn to play more of his music.... Another Favorite is Medicine! Thanks!!
Yes! Tab is my favorite guitar player going now and my #1 inspiration to play. I don’t know who the keyboard player was, but Corey Duplechin was the bassist, and it looked like Terrence Higgins on drums
Hahahahaa! I have so much fun (and learn at the same time) watching your videos, Michael. You truly share your love for music and guitar. Wish I could meet up with you for a jam session! Regards from a spanish friend and fellow guitar player in México
Can honestly say I've never seen a bad Tab Benoit show. Highly recommend everyone check him out if he's close by. Also, he is heavily involved in restoring the Wetlands in S. Louisiana and has a free festival every year in Houma, LA called Voice of the Wetlands.✌️🎸
He is very underrated!
He is a beast on that guitar of his - loved him💃
Houma!
Tab is the man and a good friend
I saw this guy play numerous times in college. He was like Buddy Guy, SRV, and Cajun Gumbo pouring out of a Telecaster with volume at 10. 👍 I can't wait to revisit

There's a bit of Johnny Winter in his bag too
No one does this song better than Tab Benoit and his band, Corey Duplechin, and Terrence Higgins. You just feel the longing.
Love Terrence Higgins. Hi from New Orleans. Awesome song.
Otis Redding has the best version of this song.
His playing is mesmerizing. Been a fan for years and seen him live several times. He brings 110% to every performance.
Dude Michael is a literal genius the way he picks this stuff apart! We love it
Tab is one of my favorite guitarists. Love his playing, singing, and performers. He is a must see every time he comes through town.
The master of the Telecaster. Tab just kills it every time.
Tab’s been around a long time and is a monster player and entertainer! Great pick! ✌🏻🎸🎶
Tab is the man. Great sense of humor it's like seeing a stand up between songs. Also he's straight into the amp. All of his effects are in his hands.
I was in law school in Birmingham Alabama from 1995 to 1997. There was a cop who had gone back to law school and was one of my classmates. She turned me on that Tab was coming to town. I'd love Michael to react to Sunrise. My fav TB song. Medicine is a great one also
And I have a suggestion for you if you like TB. Eric Lindell. Both bayou artists
One of my favorite covers of any song ever.
For sure!

👍
The Saturday night gig with Tab and Sonny at The Rock N Bowl during 'Fest, is the gig to see for guitar nuts.
I just watched him live in February, one of the better shows I have been too. He is fantastic live

I'm glad he's getting some shine through your channel, Michael. Tab is such a great blues guitarist, and has been for years.

There is no substitute for Tab. His style can never be simulated because he plays his songs different every time so well delivered. Pro never to be beat.
I had the honor of seeing him a few years ago in Telluride, CO. He is a beast
I really enjoyed this one. Tab is a monster player and you did a great job outlining his approach. Thanks!
Just saw Tab live for the first time last week… holy hell does he have a voice, and energy for days
seen Tab 30+ times, gets better every show!! bought a Blond Thin-line Telecaster remake, for Tab to sign, and followed him on "MY" Tab vacation in 2013 down through Florida. Saw Tab Benoit in the early 2000’s in Charlotte, NC. The guy is unbelievable!!!!!!
fun guy, great energy on stage and fantastic guitar player!
Did you get the mitch hedberg feeling from him when he would talk with the audience? I loved how he would start out with a few songs and take requests in the middle and end with his few selected songs.
Tab is such a master of dynamics and attack that he pulls you in and then pushes and pulls you throughout the song... a legend.
Dude, what a breath of fresh air, one of the greatest songs ever. Tab blows this out of the water..thanks for sharing ....the juice for sure
Tab can make a guitar cry; and he’s a homeboy from Houma. He always adds so much soul to his music it makes me happy and sad at the same time.
Exactly!

That sneaky BB King move extending to a minor pentatonic and resolving back to the major... just so good.

Saw Tab in high school and have listened ever since. Just got a chance to see him again in 2022 and it was awesome!
Just saw him last Thursday. Incredible! No pedals. Guitar, cable, amp. Simple and elegant. This tune is extremely joe cocker-esque
your knowledge of the fretboard has allowed me to explore with so much freedom over the years and i am terribly grateful for that. cheers michael
Very nice start to my day. Thanks
Saw tabwith his bass player and drummer about eight or 10 years ago at a small outside show by the river in South Bend Indiana, first time I ever saw him live and I was blown away by how good he is, and how good the band is, thank you for having him on your channel and working through this song the way you do

I have tickets to see Tab at the Belly Up in August. Can’t freaking wait.
Love Tab and his tasteful playing. I hear Soulshine in his solo. Am I alone?
Michael, this analysis was sublime...a work of art in itself. Nice job.
That's why I love playing bass interacting with the drummer and not only the drummer all the pieces of the band only a bass player gets it.
Tab is that dude! One of my favorite blues players for sure!
You need to cover more tab benoit please hes so underrated and such a gifted artist and amazing human being as well-!!!!!
Tab Benoit and friends are freaking awesome....i forgot who turned me on to them, but I'm so so happy that they did.
I hope that your students can learn from this.
I would love to hear derivatives of Tab...or ...mo betta blues!

4 80's 90's hard Rock kid in his late 40's now
Thank you again Sir
Great video brother… Thank you so much for all your time and effort.
I saw Tab with J.D. Simo last night in Oxford, AL. The band killed it!
Michael-you crack me up when he hits a great lick and it looks like you have to back up and hold your breath.
Down in Beaumont TX- great to see some Tab love!!! ❤️🔥
Solid vid man. Great to hear someone pick apart why something sounds good.
Tab Benoit is the real deal period. So genuine and good. Plus he wears great shirts.
On ya Michael, I love that walk up from the 5th (E) too. Love your channel, chur max from New Zealand.
Thank you Micheal for a brilliant breakdown as normal & for introducing me to Tab Benoit what a brilliant bules man:)
I've seen Tab probably 6 times.
First in the early 90s.
And last time 3 years ago, where he pointed out that he was using no pedals
except one for the lights and a delay or phaser or something like that for a certain song or two.
I always forget how good his voice is until I listen again.
It sounds buttery smooth here.
We go deep, we go nerdy...
Love this channel.
Grew up with these guys. Tab has always been a local legend and Cory D is the best bassist i've ever played with...HANDS DOWN!
I've watched this concert on RUclips...it was awesome...i dig your review.
Thanks!!
So under rated, amazing guitar player
Well done, sir, well done!
One of the best, favorite of mine for sure!
24:20 "Restrained , Profesional, PURPOSEFULNESS". Great observation :)
Thanks for another great video, Michael!
Tab is the best. I don't know the drummer or the keyboard player but the bass player is Coey Duplichen. They are so awesome together.
Can honestly say I've never seen a bad Tab Benoit show. Highly recommend everyone check him out if he's close by. Also, he is heavily involved in restoring the Wetlands in S. Louisiana and has a free festival every year in Houma, LA called Voice of the Wetlands.✌️🎸
thanks for going thru this , it really is that good isn't it !!!!
hell yes, one of the many great players from my neck of the woods, and he's hilarious. Ever reacted to any Sonny Landreth?
Wow! Love me some Tab! I found you through Oliver Anthony. Cool! It don't get much better than Tab...❤
