That's odd, when we first got our loaches they were so active in the day, and right now in the day they are so active and swim all about. And at night they all pile in a cave!!! It's really hilarious to see all of them piled into a cave.
Ha ha ha I think that’s what happened to mine.3 clown loaches have disappeared. I move things around in the tank looking for them to make sure they weren’t dead. Still can’t find them.
I just switched my loaches from a tiny 29 gallon to a 150. So many hiding spots for them and they hide under the one piece of driftwood that completely obscures my view of them. Hopefully they'll warm up to their new home.
I also noticed that as long as other fish shows them that there is nothing dangerous out there they become more "experimental". Mine have a neon blue acara as a support crew :-).
Hi there, I’ve just enjoyed watching your video about clown loaches. It was super to see your loaches digging in the gravel, looking fir small morsels of food to eat. I have 10 clown loaches in my 300 litre six foot American cichlid tank. Yes I agree that they do like a cave and somewhere is hide, however my clown loaches are far from shy, they normal hide at night together which I guess there is safety in numbers and when they are together they probably feel more safe and secure. As I write this comment, I’m sitting next to my fish aquarium and I can see my clown loaches digging in the gravel and they are very active right now. Later on when I turn of the aquarium lights they normal hide away until morning time. Yes, they are a fantastic fish to add to any aquarium. In a few days time I will be moving them in to a four foot aquarium which will be the new home. I will be emptying my six foot aquarium and hopefully selling it . Due to the rise in energy prices in the uk,I can no longer afforded to keeping this large tank running. I have enjoyed having it fir the last 5-6 years, but now it has to go as I no longer can do the water changes ect. Thank you again for allowing me to view your super video. Clown loaches are one of my all time favourite fish, kind regards from Dennis, ex Army veteran
This is good news lol. We have 8 roselines in our 125g and I just ordered 10 small clown loaches. I’m curious what temperature you have/use to keep ur tank at with these 2 species. :)
Hi I’ve got 1 clown loach in my tropical tank he recently found a shell that he goes in and hides inside ALL day! I never see him in the tank .. he only comes out in the morning for food then goes back in the whole day is this worrying or normal?
They don’t go into hiding. For some reason these fish have internal clocks that work better than others. When the sun goes down outside of my house these fish hide in my log and sleep. Even if I keep the lights on. It’s weird they are like diurnal loaches. This might be a trait gained through selective breeding
I take care of my neighbors fish and one day she sead that her louch got stuck in the ship and i had to rush out of my house to save it but now we have to find a better hide away for them😓😓😓
Botia may not breed in captifity. They need to imigrate hundreds kilometers to breed. After that thousands the baby fishes go home. I come from Indonesia,
my loaches never come out. (I have a male and a female) I never see them eat EVER. I even get up in the middle of the night to see if they are out and they are never out. I honestly don't think they can be getting much food because they are never out. They do have ick right now but even when they didn't have it they never came out. I've only had them a month. maybe it takes a long time for them to feel comfortable?
Clowns need to be in groups of usually eight or more. They are also known for getting ick and stressed out easily. I'd suggest adding more loaches so they can school about.
How old is your pleco? Also how many clown loaches can I put in my 100gal african cichlid tank? I already have two baby ones. All your videos give proof that you can keep other fish with african cichlids. Love your vids👍
Hi seen your videos about loaches. How can i get them to eat. Tried giving shrimp pellets and bloodworms but my african cichlid are just way too fast and eat them all. How do you feed yours?
Tie some sliced cucumber to a piece of thread and weight it down , you will hear them clicking all night and usually i find just the hard skin bit of cucumber in the morning. My clowns also eat algy pellets but i found that one or two types of them left the tank water kinda greasy or slimey. some frozen cubes also . The cichlids will pick at them yes but the bits that fall to the substrate will be there for the loaches to pick of the gravel . Usually they are hard enough to get food when they want it . Hope all goes well
My clown loaches only ever come out for food and the black stripes are grey I’ve tried al of the tips you have in the video and I’m not sure what to do , do you have any other suggestions?
makes me sad watching all your clown Loaches & even the video about spaghetti ,,,all 17 of my clown Loaches died of ick ,a few at a time over the past 2 months ,very painful to watch them slowly die ,your the 1st I shared this with,,,who knows when or if I'll ever get another loach ughhhhhh fml anyways as always happy fish keeping everyone poof I'm gone 💥
6feetunderwaterwithbatman Oh no!!!!! ICK?! That sucks!! Next time keep your tank a bit warmer :) Heat treatment works well. One time my tank heater malfunctioned , I caught it at 92 degrees and all the fish were barely alive. Thankfully they were all ok and needless to say I never saw ick agian. Burned it all to death lol. FOr the record, I would not recommend this method of treating ick. lol
That is sad . I have had ich every time i get new clown loaches or once I think it was transferred on a plant or another fish. luckily I have only ever had one loss in over twenty years of keeping them ,to Ich. I try and not medicate to much as it irritates their skin but I have done with King British ? I think it was called something like that . It was a green medication also I have used methalyne blue but again not a lot -about half the recommended dose. I find the best thing for ridding them of Ich was the heating up the tank water by about 2 degrees over 4-6 hours up till about 86 to 88 degrees (normally my tank is 76-78 and they seem quite happy. Sorry you lost all the fish they are fascinating to watch and i don't imagine having a tank without them
Ugg.. know how you feel. I lost both my first loaches after about 2 years to Ick. So sad watching them die. I just lost one of the 2 new replacement ones to "skinny disease?"... was so sad, one fish just didn't eat and literally could see his full spine and check bones.. took a week of him just laying down and finally didn't get up and turned opaque... sniff sniff... ;o( Looking to get more now.. my one clown is lonely by himself and the 2 other dojo's seem to bully him now...
My clown loach keeps hiding behind the filter instead of a huge castle which was bought for it

Chun Meng Quek I had 12 clown loaches in a cave one night. The cave was like the size of a wine glass.
Ha ha ha I think that’s what happened to mine.3 clown loaches have disappeared. I move things around in the tank looking for them to make sure they weren’t dead. Still can’t find them.
I love that one with the spot on its right side. So cute :)

spot on sarah fin that's what my clowns took to get em out of hiding
Chris Shortman So happy it was helpful!!!!
Excellent video and wonderful film work!
my clown loach dosen,t give a damn...
he floats about at the top of the tank on his own.
maybe it is because of the guppies and cardinals.
I also noticed that as long as other fish shows them that there is nothing dangerous out there they become more "experimental". Mine have a neon blue acara as a support crew :-).
I love clown loaches :) I have 8 in my 120g tank, and recently posted a few vids here on RUclips, just subscribed thx

I too am selling tanks because the hobby is getting too expensive. Pretty soon this will be a rich man's hobby.
Nice video, great tips for loach keepers
¿Nadie comenta que la mitad de las botias están enfermas de ich o punto blanco?
My clowns are much happier since I added 8 huge roselines. I was even able to take my light up from 25% to 50% bright!
Blake J Thats awesome! The added fish make them feel safe!
This is good news lol. We have 8 roselines in our 125g and I just ordered 10 small clown loaches. I’m curious what temperature you have/use to keep ur tank at with these 2 species. :)

one of the videos shows a clear siphon tube for a hidaway. I have a old one. what's the best way to clean to put in? maybe just hot water and vinegar?
I have six.. they're hardly ever out (apart from feeding and even then I have to leave the room for them to come out
Botia may not breed in captifity. They need to imigrate hundreds kilometers to breed. After that thousands the baby fishes go home. I come from Indonesia,

I have yoyo loaches and they are soo interesting.
I'd love some but have no tank for em.... Yet....
The fact they dont get as big as clown loaches was a major selling point.
I can't wait for my loaches to get big. Gives me an excuse for that 125 long I got my eyes on ;)
kehw same ! I have 6 guppies 2 yo yo loaches and 2 clown Loaches ✨

Novial Riptide chiclid tanks are usually overstocked to disperese aggression, especially with the more aggresive species.
