Another awesome video. Clown loaches are really a joy to watch. They are so silly and unpredictable which really makes them a great addition to any large tank. 2 thumbs and 2 big toes up! Lol
I was given 2 neglected clown loaches in a 20g tank so full of dirt i didnt know there were fish in there. Now they are in a brand new clean 75g tank. One of them is 8" long the other is 7" :D Great video it really helped me.
I have had clown loaches before and had to trade due to growth,i have 5 in my tank with 2 Discus and 2 bovarian rams, its the first time i have seen the side spots on any i have had,so relieved that it isnt anything nasty.
Thanks for the response. I did take all decorations out of the tank and shine lights inside to see if he happened to still be inside but wasn't in any.. But the next one I get if he becomes missing I will leave it be to see if he returns.
Hi Sarah, just came across your videos and I'm always interested in learning new things about Botias as I have ten chromobotia and blue Botia in my riverine. Great fish. Thanks for your time and sharing your knowledge. Subbed.
Hi Sarah, very nice video. I am a beginner hobbyist so far, and I was not aware of these species until i saw your video. This video made me fall in love with this cute fish. Thanks for posting. Further, I want to know which rock did you put in your tank in this video (observed in background)? is it lava rock or something else? Thanks in advance.
Hey, is it natural for a clown loach to be very shy and anxious? Mine hides under the gravel when It sees me, and will not eat anything but snails. Is this unusual?
I'm buying a 60 gallon tank and considering putting angelfish, clown loashes and electric blue acaras in the tank. Are those fish compatible with one another?
I would like to get a couple of this would they be ok in a tank with a guppy and some endlers? I know they are good for eating snails and I have an infestation atm
Hi Serah great video, I am going to buy 2 clown loaches from 1 seller and am wondering if you reckon 1 more can work or if I need to buy 2 or more from another seller.
I just got a clown loach on Sunday and the next night as I was feeding everybody he was not in the tank. I have all community fish such as neon tetras/black skirt tetras/ mollies/otos's/ blue guorami, I wouldn't believe they would have eaten him? And I have a lid on my tank so their was no way he could've jumped out... I even took all decorations out to see if he got stuck/ ended up vacuuming my tank since it needed it, and removed some of the rocks to see if he was hidden down in their, and still was NOT found. What do you think could've happened??? Thanks
Clown loaches are notorious for hiding, especially inside aquarium decorations. They will often play dead and wedge themselves into small spaces. They will hide less if there is a group of them. My advice is leave everything in the tank (decprations) because you could remove them with the fish still trapped inside. I do not think it was eaten. Wait a few days for him to get hungry enough to come out. They usually come out around dusk looking for scraps. Hope you find hima
hello Sarah I had cleaned out my 200 gallon fish tank do to a snail infestation. took everything out and cleaned and set everything the Sun for 3 weeks put all my fish and separate fish tanks for 3 weeks replace the gravel that I had with river rock put on my fish back with all my old decorations logs everything. have not bought any natural life plants due to the snails and what do I see tonight a bunch of snails where they came from I have no idea I thoroughly cleaned my tank filter hoses everything and it was a setting dormant and dry for about 3 weeks. I have seen at the clown loaches do a good job with the snails but I want you know are they going to be okay with river rock because I do not have gravel that they can dig in thing like they do in your video and how do they go along with dragon fish
+Alicia Adams It will be difficult for them to burrow into the river rock and get at the snails. It will not HURT them, but they may not be able to get to the snails as easily. Hopefully this was helpful, clowns are awesome at cleaning up snail infestations :)
Also I bought 2 dwarf Goramis about 2 weeks ago and at first they kinda got bullied by my 2 tiger barb assholes I took the barbout. Now one dwarf Gorami is settled but the other is mostly grounded, should I take him out?
+Sarah Fin ohh it makes sense now one of my gourami is normally in the back behind the rocks and plants and the other is normally in the front swimming very freely thanks for the info!ps. Can u recommend a non aggressive colourful trop fish?
hey.. I'm after some advice, I have a 3" tiger Oscar and 3 clown loach all approximately 5" so bigger than the Oscar, they sort of tolerate each other but my Oscar is always chasing them, would this be classed as bullying, I just don't want the clown loach getting really stressed by this if that is at all possible.. He doesn't hurt them but it looks pretty annoying
Chris Thomas Tiger Oscar's can be housed with clowns but it usually helps if they have been brought up together. Sounds like the loaches are being bullied, enough for you to ask online about it anyways. You can help with peace in your tank by providing the loaches with hiding places the oscar cant get too. Like PVC works great. This other video I did has lots of ideas I think will help your fish. Let me know if it helps! ruclips.net/video/bH1rb103UZE/видео.html
Hi! I was given 2 clown loaches about a year ago, grown a bit, they are now 6in and 4in. My tank is 200litres! I can't afford to upgrade the tank at the moment! Is the tank big enough for them? I have 2 baby pleccos and guppies in with them!
I have kept clown loaches every time I have had a tank on the go. I had 4 in a 180litre and they were finf and i have a small 80 litre tank just now and there are 4 in it . I started with 3 I got because they were in a cramped tank but I eventually gave the biggest one back when the guy got sorted and asked for one of them to go with a pair he had. The two kept on fighting and clicking at each other (not sure if it was a dominance thing or what) but i got another 2 small ones and the fighting and niggling cut down and has now stopped. I have a 140 litre tank sitting waiting on my room being decorated before i set it up and I will put them in it. But your 200 ltr sounds ok if they are not fish that are 8,9 or 10 inches long . It also depends on how many other fish and what other stuff you have in the tank . they like rocky hiding holes or ornaments they can hide away in but I find them a great fish for most any community tank . You see them in tanks with fish you would imagine they would not get along with but they seem to hold their own against most other fish .
Hey Corey, no a 10 gallon tank is too small even for 2" loaches because they need room to swim quickly over larger distances to grow and develop properly. Please do not put clown loaches in anything less than a 55 gallon. Even then thats only good for the first two to three years of their life. They need that 4ft footprint of the tank to swim. Very important.
i've been in the aquarium hobby over 25 years. i worked at an exotic fish/reptile store called aquarium city in canoga park, california for 6 1/2 years and i've yet too see a clown loach over 4 inches.
I love clown loaches, but it seems every time I get some they go and hidd to die 2 weeks later. I always check my water and its perfect. I've been worried my pictus catfish could be cutting them with its barbs but still unsure of why they keep dying on my..
How many are you introducing at a time? They really need to be in groups to do well. Clowns should be able to stand thier own agiasnt the pictus. How big is your tank?
Do you think I should destroy the unsettled Gorami? It has no white spots on it and is always out at feeding time but then goes to the back and sits down again, please help.
I would never recommend killing a fish, especially if it's healthy like you described. if it seems unsettled take it back to the store. maybe it's just a shy personality, fish are all different like us.
Try feeding them water melon, my fish go bonkers for it. My Syno's pleco and my Malawi's. My fish enjoy this more than any other fruit or veg. I put a slice with a lead weight on it and it is destroyed in about 15 min's. Then later on the pleco looks like it is pooping silly string. You should try it, your fish will love you for it.
I just had to euthanize my 28 year old clown loach. He was kept in a 80 gallon with two others. Never a sick day he just got old but refused to die. He will be buried in the garden in the spring with a plant. I am going to add three more, very unique fish.
Aaaw, that is so sad. I have a single loach (when i bought it, i didn't know it was a schooling fish).... but it hid only for the first few months. Now it has been in my care for 12 years. It comes out quite often and begs for food when ever hungry by swimming to and fro against the glass. It has also learnt to recognize me and my daughter as we are the only ones who feel it. It does not react the same way when my husband walks over to the tank. We also got it accustomed to our hands... now it takes food out of our hand. Few years back we tried getting it some friends... unfortunately they died within a month. I don't know why... maybe some kind of illness that those loaches were suffering but initially didn't show any symptoms. My original loach is still being a goofball. I love it.
I fixed the "hiding problem" of my FIVE loaches!! I put in a pump!! In the CORNER directing it to a spot where they have a piece of MANGRO root to hide!! They LOVE IT! Like a river. ya know?!! they SWIM in the CURRENT ! that, MY FRIEND IS THE SECRET !! HA!
+Sarah Fin, great video, but african cichlids are not good companions for Clown loaches for their aggressive .behaviour. Also water quality requirements are different for the African and Indonesians.
umm I have seen many setups of clown loaches with large African or American cichlids. I have even seen a school of 4 inch loaches kept with large snakehead. clown loaches get big, and in a school can definitely hold their own. Even with aggressive fish like cichlids.
I agree there Joseph . I would not advocate putting them in with predator fish as a rule but you are right in that they seem to hold their own against most other fish . If you have ever tried to hold one you will understand . They have a barb on their bead like a spear so most fish fell it once and don't come back for more
My clown loaches act like a pack of damn fools...
Another awesome video. Clown loaches are really a joy to watch. They are so silly and unpredictable which really makes them a great addition to any large tank. 2 thumbs and 2 big toes up! Lol
Thank you so much!! I love my clowns.... the name suits!
I was given 2 neglected clown loaches in a 20g tank so full of dirt i didnt know there were fish in there. Now they are in a brand new clean 75g tank. One of them is 8" long the other is 7" :D
Great video it really helped me.
keep them at 82 degrees with lots of flow and surface agitation they love it :) that temp helps ward off ich to
I have had clown loaches before and had to trade due to growth,i have 5 in my tank with 2 Discus and 2 bovarian rams, its the first time i have seen the side spots on any i have had,so relieved that it isnt anything nasty.
Sarah, thanks for reminding me the clown loach gets big and are susceptible to Ich.
Thanks for the response. I did take all decorations out of the tank and shine lights inside to see if he happened to still be inside but wasn't in any.. But the next one I get if he becomes missing I will leave it be to see if he returns.
Good idea. I would recommend getting at least 3 at a time. They are social fish and you will see them alot more in a group! :)
I LOVE Clown Loaches.......Thumbs Up!!
Great video. I watched it a bunch of times before buying mine. I am upgrading to a 125 gallon tank. What kind of sand do you use?

I understand that these fish can GET big but if I purchased a small specimen of 2" or around there, could it be housed in a ten gallon for a while
Nice video great info.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed! :)
I would like to get a couple of this would they be ok in a tank with a guppy and some endlers? I know they are good for eating snails and I have an infestation atm
They should be fine, just remember they need big tanks
Hi Serah great video, I am going to buy 2 clown loaches from 1 seller and am wondering if you reckon 1 more can work or if I need to buy 2 or more from another seller.
Clown loaches always do best in groups of three or more... but it doesn't matter where you buy them. They will group up. Hope this helps!

Great just when I run out of things to watch nor made a comment and had to check out your u tube
Haha! Awesome! Hope you like the videos!
can u please recommend a non aggressive and colourful trop fish which is generally friendly?
+Ahmed Rezaei killi fish and mistaken for marine fish sometimes due to their unique colors

dwarf gouramis will fight for territories in a small tank. add some hiding spots before putting them back together
+Sarah Fin ohh it makes sense now one of my gourami is normally in the back behind the rocks and plants and the other is normally in the front swimming very freely thanks for the info!ps. Can u recommend a non aggressive colourful trop fish?

Ok thanks
I have a Molly a Kuhli loach and black phantom tetra in there currently. Do you recommend anything that would be suitable for it
For a 10 gallon? Get some neon tetras and some cool plants!! But you should upgrade! even a 20 gallon opens the door for alot more options!!
Ok thanks again. I've been trying to upgrade to a 15-20 but I don't have the money unfortunately
try the local classified ads for free ones :)
i've been in the aquarium hobby over 25 years. i worked at an exotic fish/reptile store called aquarium city in canoga park, california for 6 1/2 years and i've yet too see a clown loach over 4 inches.
I got 5 8 inch :-)
hi looking getting 2 of them i have a 250 lillters tank 55 gallon should this be fine ? thank you
I just got one of these... don't think I'm ready
Hey what plecos we can keep with african cichlids? I saw one in urs.
I feel a bit bad,I bought a loach clown as a pleco for my betta in my 5.5,I didn't even know they would grow huge, they live fine together though
No ich?
Great video , I have 3 clowns in a 55 they all just hit about 4-5 inches
mine are quite big too. 3-6"
Sarah Fin Would they be ok in a 55? I have discus in there and I got the clowns for snail population control
+Maurice Aquariums You have about another 1-2 years before u need to upgrade. provided you are maintaining good water parameters
Sarah Fin Thank you for the info, I keep discus so I do multiple water changes per week. I think they're in pristine water conditions lol
+Maurice Aquariums you'll be OK :)
sarah fin can you tell me why 1 clown loach will go pale compared to the rest of the group?
They are asserting dominance. :)
I love clown loaches, but it seems every time I get some they go and hidd to die 2 weeks later. I always check my water and its perfect. I've been worried my pictus catfish could be cutting them with its barbs but still unsure of why they keep dying on my..

I try to get 2 at a time.. I only have 20G so will more be okay in that size aquarium.
Not really. You need alot bigger because they need at least group of 5-6 to really survive. You're just gunna keep wasting money and losing them. :(
Its weird cause I have 2 clown loaches for 6 months in my 29 gallon never had a problem with them they look happy and alive 😂😂😂
+Ahmed Rezaei In my experience, nitrates cause fish to hang on the bottom... or stress from getting picked on.
can you keep a clown poach with red cherry shrimp
Don't think so. I have a bunch of clowns and we feed them ghost shrimp. Some clowns will even chase them down to eat them.
Hola saludos cordiales. Felicitaciones. Bonito video. Gracias. Saludos.
is a aquarium thats is 100x40x40 good enough
There so cute :)
how are your clown loaches doing?

My clown didn’t eat watermelon first time. Why????
great videos
