Stay tuned Walmart Syn, Castrol Syn, Mobil 1, Amsoil, and rotella syn will all be tested next in the same size bottle ruclips.net/video/alnOguGvyh8/видео.html
+stchman I didn't catch the point at which they took the Amsoil bottle away from the stand, but if it was there until the end it finished while the Mobil1 was still giving up its last remains. To be 'fair', this was more of a general indicator of quality and fitness of purpose, not an 'apples-to-apples' comparison. The premium manufacturers offer several variants -- like this Mobil1 'High Mileage' formulation -- so they should have been as closely matched by specification as possible. I'm off to check out the later video they made.
Mike South asking a Question like they get paid to push a product like you no they dont. if you have a problem make a video of your own and act like that on your channel not mine.
Rich your Tundra would be running the exact same with conventional. I had several friends in the 80's.. and 90's with Tacoma's.. Tundra's.. that had more miles than yours and they used the cheapo jiffy lube bulk conventional.
Amsoil and royal purple do a lot of talk ans show charts and bar graphs but this is the first real world test I have seen. I use mobile 1 0w 20 and always wondered about switching, thanks guys you put my mind at ease.
Everyone is pointing out the bottles, but I'd like to point out that all the oils are different. Walmart brand is conventional, amsoil is synthetic, mobil-1 is high mileage synthetic, and royal purple is their "high performance" synthetic. I don't care about the bottles as much, but if you want to compare apples to apples at least get the same type of oil. High mileage or high performance oils will have different additives that will introduce variables, and obviously synthetics are different than conventionals.
+Erik Hendershot that was just a Base comparison for Judge them upon you know you always get the person that says there is no difference between Syn and Standard Oil we did the test with syn walmart ruclips.net/video/alnOguGvyh8/видео.html
Erik Hendershot They are not all the same oil.! They should be oil’s that are fully synthetic. The Walmart brand is conventional motor oil which is bass one stock. How do you compare her name is oriole and a mobile one synthetic? This is unfair to the Supertek
I use royal purple its the one oil that I can say makes my car run better I tryed so many before purple still the oil I go back to it been 4 years n my car feels brand new
This is a fairly narrow test that only focused on how the oils perform at -40 degrees, which is not very common in many areas of the US. How an oil performs at very high temps, and at higher miles is more important. This is where the blend of additives comes into play. So overall a good test, but I won't base my buying decision on it.
blackvr4tt- this test shows what damage can be done at colder temps do to poor oil flow. Startup is the worst on an engine and mobile 1 will lubricator the fastest when cold. -40 is extreme but 0 degrees will also have a similar effect
@skojo 0 degrees F will not have a similar effect. An engine with 10W-30 or 10W-40 will start and run at 0 degrees. You just have to let it warm up a little. In the early 70s 10W-30 was all we had and all the cars started and ran in the MIdwestern winter if there was not something else wrong with them. Later, I had a Japanese compact which I ran with 20W-50 because I lived in lowland California. When I went to Nevada in the winter and started it in 11 degree weather, there was no problem. It made a little valve noise for a few seconds and then ran normally. You cannot exceed the specifications of your products by too much though. -40 is too cold for a conventional oil.
You should puncture the bottoms of the bottles upon pouring. This takes the shape of the bottle out of the equation. With a thick goopy texture, the shape of the bottle can make a big difference upon pour speed.
320,000 miles on my 01 GMC Sierra Z-71 with nothing but Mobil 1 in it it’s whole life. Motor’s still going strong today and I give all the credit to the oil. I’m a believer.
there's nothing better than people doing there own experiments with oils and filters. I love it. not backed by any oil company or bias like all the "independent lab studies" which they're all known for (especially amsoil). you guys are awesome. keep it up.
Interesting story. In a history course I found out that the German armor crews would drain the engine oil out and put it in metal containers put it over a fire then pour back into the engines in the morning before battle. Tanks fired up far easier. Don't know if the Russians did the same thing or not. I read about Erwin Rommel and gained respect for him and his men. Would not have wanted to face the Desert Fox with what we Americans had at the time for armor. Must have been good hunting for the skilled German crews back then.
if not for Germany starting Operation Barbarossa end of June they may have defeated the soviet union then winter hit froze everything up including the germans still wearing their summer uniforms
I run Rotella T6 diesel oil in all my cars with a can of Shell zinc additive... 200k miles and still not a hiccup. I live in Chicago where the temps drop pretty low too. 👌
Everyone is debating over M1 or Amsoil when in reality, both are top (top) tier synthetic oils that IF you change them as needed, they will serve your engine *very* well. This is entertaining to see but the real test comes down to heat and how long the oil can withstand that heat over an extended drain interval with severe service. *If the oil fails, your engine will fail.* I am an Amsoil guy but I would NOT hesitate to put M1, Red line, Royal Purple, LiquiMolly, or any other fully synthetic oil in my engine so long as you change the damn oil when needed. Picking just about any fully synthetic oil will do your engine well! Stop fretting over which is the absolute best.
I just rewatched the beginning. Yeah it does look like the neck is fatter. Also, I would think the shorter neck of the Mobile 1 would also give it an edge
Standardized test uses the same containers at the same time with the same quantities. They are right, not every manufacturer uses the same dimensions and vacuum pressure could be restricting flow from the bottle.
This is singlehandedly the most important video I've ever watched on RUclips. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS! PS I lived in Alaska for eight years and plan on moving back. Unalakleet, where I plan to visit again, regularly gets to -40 in the winter. This is very helpful for that reason
as a canadian all i can say is thank you very much for doing this video, -40 is extreme and not often does it hit that where i live but it does happen a few times a year and i've always used mobile 1 so this makes me happy to know i chose right
I think it's the old adage, "you get what you pay for!" I always use Mobil 1, have done for over 25 years now, and in my quiet biased opinion...It is The Best Motor Oil by Far....Mobil 1 0w - 30. Great Review Guys, you have just confirmed / reinforced my choice, though Amsoil is as good I'd say. Thanks Heaps..Regards.
The lowest temperature I've ever seen is -42 here in my part of Canada and nothing would start. The car, pickup, semi truck all dead. Even the snow blower took about 3 hours to start and block heaters only do so much. The old timers used to light fires under the oil pan and let it burn for 20 minutes. God bless Canada.
ohh man haha walmarts oil was horrible. My neighbor used that oil for a few years in his 98 jeep and the engine eventually got a bad knock at just a 198k miles. I personally use AMSOIL but i never see temps that low. I primarily in winter see temps about at low as 32 33 f but nothing even near zero. its very interesting to see how they act in super low temps like that.
I'd still use the AMSOIL because it's API Group 4 while the Mobil is only Group 3. Royal Purple is Group 4 but I think that most users use it for high performance and racing. If you could do a load test, the AMSOIL and Royal Purple, being Group 4 (real synthetic) would test superior.
@Anthony Ramsey All of what you said is true except that each oil should have been poured into individual tubes secured to a table and all should have been flipped over simultaneously, not one ahead of another.
Conventional oils contain waxes which explains the super slow pour. I use Mobile 1 and my car starts instantly in Sub-Zero temperatures. Better for engine, starter motor, and battery. It's also more stable at high temps and puts less load on cooling system at operating temps (less friction in engine). Full synthetic is just better in many ways.
FrozenHaxor you may be confused with the packaging, as both the Super, and Super High Mileage use the same shape of bottle. The red labeled Super is conventional motor oil. While the blue label Super High Mileage is fully synthetic.
-40 degrees happens everyday around here. It took some looking but i got a big enough freezer to put all my cars, mowers and power equipment in. Thanks This evaluation means a lot.
the scary part is once the ams oil bottle is empty it is empty the mobile 1 continues to drip which may mean its not done despite its jump start over ams oil
I would expect amsoil to be first as well given the fact that amsoil is only real synthetic oil in there based on blend of ester and pow. Mobil and peobably royal purple are hydrocracking type3 based oil. Simple way to check: Germany is the only country in the world where government strictly regulates that oil manufacturers can not lie that their oils are synthetic while they are not, i.e. made with level 3 base which is hydrocracking. If you go to mobil/castrol/liqui molly Germany, you will see that bottle is different an nowhere on it says full synthetic motoroil. So far only full synthetic motor oils, i.e. made out of level 4 and 5 base (ester and pow) on US market are AMSOil and RedLine. Motul has some limited Ester based oils.
I appreciate the analysis and thought behind this, however the test is flawed. The bottles are all vastly different. For future tests, I would recommend using a generic container for all. Pour them into 4 equal containers prior to placing them in the freezer. Also, I would ensure that all oils carry an API SN rating. Mobil 1 HM is API SL. That being said, what can we learn from this? A quality synthetic is what you should be using.
I used Mobil 1 in my '95 Chevy P/U and never had an issue. I tried Royal Purple and noticed no difference. I then put in Mobil 1 Extended Performance and after 100-200 miles the truck idled much smoother. I had to look at the tach to see if it was still running. My other vehicles are getting Mobil 1 EP oil from now on. Thanks for the video.
I have been using royal purple 5/30 in all my vehicles for the last 10 years, no complaints what so ever and living in Ontario we see some -30 to -40 nights and my engines haven't complained yet .... but interesting test none the less!!
that's why I always wanted to do this test I have noticed lifter noise on my jeep in the winter with some brands of oil on start up. Granted AMC doesn't have the best oiling systems to begin with so they tend to suffer the most
Block heaters don't heat the oil pan though just the coolant. Yes the block will be warm but you are still forcing frozen oil though it for 5 minutes until it matches the blocks temperature.
Well considering that the vast majority of engine wear is in that initial cold start I would be more worried about cold flow. Amsoil is top dog all across the board.
My 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 5.2 V8 is still going strong for 25 years without engine or transmission overhaul. Right now it is over 401,000 miles. Several years ago, I've used conventional oil then blue smoke came out from tail pipe as I didn't like so, I switched to Mobil One Synthetic oil with royal purple oil filter for years without any problem as well always passed smog check. Also, I've used mostly Chevron 87 octane gas of trying not get cheap gas too.
On my BMW I use the BMW oil from the dealer, but all my other cars I use Walmart supertech full synthetic and never had any issues, it still looks good 5000 miles later.
Yeah it's not supposed to come out clean because that means it's not doing its job of cleaning all the carbon deposits from the inside of the engine. That is, unless the car is brand new and has no deposits then maybe.
Ever thought it's because Mobil 1 container has a wider opening? Try this test again with bottles that are identical and I bet you get different results. too many variables in this test to be conclusive of anything.
Gopher don't bother - dude puts together a Homer Simpson spice rack, all the bottles are different shapes, thickness, plastic tension etc etc - and then compare synthetic and conventional oils of different viscosity. Useless.
neonRTowner first thing you didn't know is that mobile 1 is actually rated for - 40 degree weather. the second thing you didn't know is the pickup tube on the oil pumps not as big as opening on the mobile one container. And I doubt very seriously that it's the size of the opening on the bottle that was restricting the Walmart conventional oil. And had there been a bigger opening on the Royal Purple bottle all you would have gotten is a Big Blob you wouldn't have had a nice flow like on the mobile one.
I have used Schaeffers Synthetic Oil in all my vehicles for over 15 years and Its the oldest company in St Louis. It was started making grease for covered wagons going west. Ranken Auto tech college did a RUclips 1 million mile teardown on a state vehicle that used Schaeffers oil it whole life. Look it up. The V8 still had the ink stamps on the wear side of the crank bearings and no crank wear on a 5.4 V8. It would be as good as anything you will find. Its just known for commercial oils more than parts stores. But its on Amazon!
-40 is too cold for 5W30 w/out a block heater. Test would not necessarily correlate to a reasonable cold temp start at all. I would very much like to see a more controlled test run at 0 F. And for gods sake, Mobile is a town in Alabama. In my entire life I have never seen a bottle of Mobile 1 motor oil.
I have read the Consumer Reports magazine once about motor oil testing, back in 1990's. They compared a number of different brands.Testing was done with New York taxis. I hope I'm correct, this was long time ago.Their test proved that as long you are using correct oil and as long you are replacing oil on time, you should never have any problem with engine. Only engine that failed was one they skip the regular oil change. Another note was about using "Mobil 1" Synthetic 5W-30 oil. They mentioned that particular oil flows better at lower temperatures. At that time I had Mazda Protege 1997.,and recommended oil viscosity was 10W-30. I started using "Mobil 1" Synthetic 5W-30 just for winter season, between November and April. I would go back to 10W-30 after winter.
From the mid 70´s Mobil 1 had been tried to been made better by some oil manufacturers, but they NEVER Even Equalized Mobi 1. Mobil 1 is # 1 SINCE MID 1970´s, to the Date. But, Keep Trying. Sure somebody/or company will maybe excel Mobil 1. Thanks for the facts video mattmopar440.
Marek Sumguy True but I wouldn't call them useless. But I suppose you are one of those people that can't move forward and form any opinions unless there is "scientific" proof?
+consaka1 but marek is right. this is a useless test. all I see is the tested 4 oils all of which were in different containers and had different openings. and they were tested at a temperature that would be relevant for less than 5% of people. great test lol.
+thenightlifenj1 It all depends on what conclusion they are trying to draw from this "test". If the conclusion they draw is, "well look at that!... Mobil 1 is WAY BETTER than Royal Purple because it flowed better at -40C". Well then they're idiots. This test is irrelevant... because you wouldn't be using a 5W at such low temps, in the first place!. You would be using a 0W and/or a sump heater to warm up the oil... and then the flow rate would be completely different to what you see in this bogus "test". Its pointless.
+Marek Sumguy exactly. this wasn't a good test of anything useful. not to mention none of those oils are really anything to write home about with the exception of the amsoil. I see oils with different group ratings being tested against each other. I think the only group 5 oil that's there is the amsoil. they should try testing motul, total, elf, and amsoil against everything else or conventional to get a comparison.
I have seen tests of non-synthetic ATF at -20F from 30 years ago. Out of a standard gear pump, it looked like Jello. The interesting thing was, the gear pump "sheared" the oil so much that within about 30 seconds, the flow was pretty good and by 60 seconds it was about the same as a room temp flow.
I have been kicking the idea of using synthetic oil here in Michigan since our winter this year was really cold and now that I see how Mobile 1 did I'm going with their new annual oil and filter. Great video thanks for sharing your finding.
I was certain the Mobil 1 would be best! That’s and Castrol Syntec is all I ever use. I happen to have a good friend that happens to be a chemist, that’s retired from working at Fram. That has told me what’s the best oils to use! Back in the day I was very surprised to learn the best regular Dino oil was none other than Texaco Havoline Supreme, back til the advent of the original Mobil 1 ! Since then Mobil 1 has consistently beat all the others across the board, from low temps to very high! The one and only time I’ve ever used Royal Purple is when my cousin gave me some when he worked as a salesman for them. I used it in my Kawasaki Ninja 900, the very first night I actually spun a rod bearing!! Lucky for me the bike was only 8 months old and under warranty! The dealership who was owned by a good friend of mine was able to get it taken care of through the warranty! But that’s the LAST TIME I’ve ever used royal purple!! What’s the RV in the background? Looks like an older Airsteam RV!
It's good oil. Use supertech syn in everything I own including my 2006 supercharged vette and it works great. Name brand oil is a scam in 2019, they all are too close to Matter unless you race your cars in grueling conditions... Which I doubt you do.
And at 3:05 amsoil stopped pouring completely.. Not a single drop after that.. And Mobil 1 was still dripping at 4:05 which is over a minute after Amsoil completed.. So Amsoil flows better.. Even at 6:00 Mobil 1 was still dripping.
Mobil 1 extended mile oil is 15K max and amsoil signature is GUARANTEED for 25K, I have been running this oil for 10 yrs, one vehicle I have is an OLD 93 saturn sw2, with over 350K, starts and runs great , would drive it ANYWHERE, and consumes less than 1/2 qt. per 25k. just great product
here we go again with the flipping grammar nazi idiots. ever wonder that it could've been the stupid autocorrect feature that changes your words to a whole different word from what you are trying to say? Jeesh
sportsmansparadice42 Our mobile one burned up a quart and a half in a 200 mile road trip at 4500 miles at that change. Switched to Amsoil and I haven't needed to change it at 7k. I know what I'm sticking to.
waterloo123100 well that's you I've been using Mobil 1 for over 150,000 miles on 3 different cars and had NO mechanical or oil burning issues at all. Even sent the used oil to get tested at a lab and everything was in perfect shape
Rixhz34 Well you shouldn't have any issues if you change your oil enough. Oil isn't supposed to detonate your motor. Our Honda accord has had 193k of mobile 1 before it was switched to Amsoil. And still my point it being stated that it runs a lot better and more efficient off Amsoil and I also know where my money goes using Amsoil back into more Working peoples pockets. So I'll stick to my Independently Owned Oil company
I am really surprised that Amsoil did not go faster. Mobil 1 is most definitely a great oil at that temp. I already use it and that makes me feel better about doing so.
Ok, this is not a valid test. You need to put the oil in beakers with the same pour characteristics i.e. throat size etc. and have them all tipped at the exact same time. We get the idea but come on!
+Matt Cero tipping doesn't matter as you could just time it instead of comparing. also none of them finished close enough for anything else to really matter but he did redo the test in same bottles.
That was really eye-opening. I was really surprised at how well the Mobile One synthetic oil did. I think I will be using mobile one synthetic from now on. Well worth the extra money.
This is a great test because of the -40C and also because we can see it. I would like to see a test with all Mobil 1 with a 0w ( like a 0w40), a 5w ( like you have ), a 10w ( like 10w40)and a 15w, like 15w40. For what it is worth, the w in 5w stands for winter and tells you how it will pour when it is cold. A 0w should be able to pour when it is roughly -50C. We can see that the 5w pours atroughly -40C. A 10w should be able to pour at -25C and a 15w at about -20C. The second number in the 5w30, in this case 30, tells how viscous the oil will be when theengine is hot ( 100C.). Way to go guys!!
It would have been more interesting to have put up Walmart's synthetic oil with the other three synthetic oils. Comparing apples to oranges serves no one in this demonstration.
Actually Amsoil finished first. You can see the Mobil 1 still drips while Amsoil is done dripping. As soon as he measures the temperature of the Mobil 1 you can see it.
Interesting test! If it's 40 below, I'll use Mobile 1! However where I live, where it rarely gets below 0 degrees, I have had by far the best luck with Royal Purple. I will never buy that Walmart crap though, that's for damn sure!
Looking at it from each person's perspective, mobil 1 may have good flow in starts at very low temperatures, but royal purple has much better additives than other oils, I checked it not with one, but with several brands of oil and royal purple was the one that worked best for me because, from the sound of my car's ignition I noticed the difference
So even after seeing this you would still recommend royal purple motor oil?? I run super tech in both my ‘12 Subaru and my ‘08 f150 and I will not be running that anymore as we today had -10 with wind up here in NH… I’m seriously disappointed and wondering how much damage I’ve done over the years by running a super cheap oil… shame on me
@Derek Schwartz This is what Amsoil Signature Series and other Group IV PAO based or Group V Ester Based Synthetic Oils were craeted for. They can solve that heat and wear problem you seek answeres for. But it also helps to run a 160 Degree Thermostat for the simple reason the factory 195 Degree Thermostat is simpmy too hot for the cooling system. No vehicle cooling system should ever run that hot!! Running a vehicle cooling system at or above 190 degrees actually causes wear and tear on the cooling system, and engine parts. Not to mention it significantly shortens the life of all those parts. I know because I have been running a 160 degree thermostat in my vehicles engine for nearly 20 years now. Coolant temps rarely get above 175 degrees on the guage during the hottest months of the year in the southwest.
Walmart doesn't blend their own oil, like Mobil, Royal Purple, and AMS Oil. I work for one company that does manufacture their oil and it passes the pour point and cold crank testing requirements. The oil is SN GF5 specifications for API standards. The test also has 5w30 conv, FS, and HM, which all have different additive packages and base oil groups. Mobil 1 and AMSOil are the only products that use group 4 base oils that I know of, but it's only in their best grades of oil (FS).
That's all I use in my cars and trucks mobile 1 its nice to see this test because I store my mustang for the winter I start it every 2 weeks good to know how well mobile one works thanks for the vid
+TheWakeOfRedemption Your switching to Mobil 1 because of a pourability test alone? There are a dozen specs for oil and any synthetic oil is fine. Some do better in one category than others. Best bet is synthetic oil with best filter you can find with a large surface area and pleat supports .
Not a very good experiment. All the oils were tipped at different times. Also, the containers were different shapes and sizes. Next time set up a rig to tip them at the same time, and pour them all from identical containers.
+Roy Batty At -40, I highly doubt that any speed advantage was gained by the nominal difference between inversion times of the bottles. You are truly 'batty', Roy. ; ] The three synthetics could have been started two hours after the Wal-Mart conventional and they still would have beaten it.
I would have to say that amsoil and Mobil 1 were dead even, the only reason i think that is because Mobile 1 has a bigger cap, so bigger opening and also how the bottle is designed. easier for air to get in and push the oil out. I would have to say you should only use Amsoil or Mobil 1 in your vehicles! Thanks for the test!
I'm surprised by the Royal Purple as I would have considered the best one here. Also I am impressed by the Amsoil because I've never thought much of it.
mobile 1 advanced full synthetic (that shit with the gold labeling) DONE! ....and matching oil filter. isn't it always -40 in alaska and shit? they have cars and they gotta start.
+TENNSUMITSUMA Alaska has a summertime as well and it can be 80 degrees F. In fact there was a record high of 100 degrees F in Fort Yukon. Also we don't live in igloos here in Canada. Peace and Love
My 23 years old car had a blue smoke out of tailpipe. I kept eyes to Mobil 1 5W-30 and purchase it then no more blue smoke. I've used many other brand oil does not help to stop blue smoke. Mobil 1 is the best ever I had.
Stay tuned Walmart Syn, Castrol Syn, Mobil 1, Amsoil, and rotella syn will all be tested next in the same size bottle

I bet the Amsoil weenies are going to SCREAM that the test was unfair.
Also, the Amsoil bottle has a funnel neck - restricting flow, where Mobil has no neck. Not a scientific test by any means.
stchman im loving your profile pic lol #ZOU
Scott H we did the test again with all the same bottles check out my channel
+stchman I didn't catch the point at which they took the Amsoil bottle away from the stand, but if it was there until the end it finished while the Mobil1 was still giving up its last remains. To be 'fair', this was more of a general indicator of quality and fitness of purpose, not an 'apples-to-apples' comparison. The premium manufacturers offer several variants -- like this Mobil1 'High Mileage' formulation -- so they should have been as closely matched by specification as possible. I'm off to check out the later video they made.
I've been using Mobil 1 for over twenty five years now, and based on this I'm happy to stick with that choice. Thanks for the great test guys.
Can't go wrong with Mobil1 but any of these stupid cheap oil if a no no.It's cheap for a reason guys.
Legend has it that the walmart brand is still pouring out till this day.
1phone1gamer hahaha that's a good one!! 👌😂😂
Amsoil is the winner!
Was I the only one that heard Walmart is conventional?
1phone1gamer what do you expect? It's conventional
1phone1gamer Walmart was conventional oil the other synthetic no a fair test
Mobil One has never failed me ..... I'm loyal to that which is loyal to me.
Mike South he likes it? His vehicle likes it? i dunno, Mobil one speaks to me and my vehicle. no others have.
classic kool I would say stick with what your happy with AMSOIL and Mobil 1 did well in the cold
mattmopar440 Your test confirmed my choice in motor oil .... I'm a car geek, and loved your test! ... Thanks for taking the time and effort to do it!
Mike South asking a Question like they get paid to push a product like you no they dont. if you have a problem make a video of your own and act like that on your channel not mine.
classic kool was thinking about switching to Penz oil platinum but think I'll stick with Mobil one for my accord
I’ve been using Mobil 1 for 287.000 miles in my 4.7 Tundra. Still going strong.
4.7 Toyota can go 1 million miles just spitting into the crankcase lol.
Rich your Tundra would be running the exact same with conventional. I had several friends in the 80's.. and 90's with Tacoma's.. Tundra's.. that had more miles than yours and they used the cheapo jiffy lube bulk conventional.

blackvr4tt. Then you go ahead and use the Walmart crap, I will stick to Mobil 1.
@skojo 0 degrees F will not have a similar effect. An engine with 10W-30 or 10W-40 will start and run at 0 degrees. You just have to let it warm up a little. there's nothing better than people doing there own experiments with oils and filters. I love it. not backed by any oil company or bias like all the "independent lab studies" which they're all known for (especially amsoil). you guys are awesome. keep it up.
Good thing that the Germans did not have Mobil 1 in Russia …
I have used Mobil 1 for years and was very happy to see your results of your test.
*If the oil fails, your engine will fail.*
I am an Amsoil guy but I would NOT hesitate to put M1, Red line, Royal Purple, LiquiMolly, or any other fully synthetic oil in my engine so long as you change the damn oil when needed. Picking just about any fully synthetic oil will do your engine well! Stop fretting over which is the absolute best.
I’m a mobile one guy switching to both ultra platinum pennzoil and also amsoil. M1 is good but the other two are superior
I’d say container shape has some influence on pour time. Check out how Project Farm runs his tests....
Mobil 1 has larger opening in the bottle to pour out, could’ve made the difference over the amsoil in this test? I’m a big Mobil 1 fan.
Dustin Elgan no actually the amsoil has a larger bottle but it is obviously a great oil. Both are great
I just rewatched the beginning. Yeah it does look like the neck is fatter. Also, I would think the shorter neck of the Mobile 1 would also give it an edge
That's main factor but dumb authors of that comparison don't nothice that.
Why not have the synthetic supertech? Seems would make more sense than conventional, since the others are synthetic
The size of the hole are completely different, and the test should be done with open top container so that no vaccum form in the bottles.
Teedjay Gendron ruclips.net/video/alnOguGvyh8/видео.html
we did do a test all the same bottles
The necks on the manufacturer's bottles are different sizes dummies.
Mobil-1 always does great in cold weather!
buckaroobonsi555
With this test it is, the bottle opening is twice the size of the other bottles.
Eastern Explorer haha that’s awesome (the fire part)
ohh man haha walmarts oil was horrible.
Not very scientific or accurate testing here.
@Anthony Ramsey All of what you said is true except that each oil should have been poured into individual tubes secured to a table and all should have been flipped over simultaneously, not one ahead of another.
@Anthony Ramsey
Should have used 0W-XX
@@101Volts
The results were close enough that it would make difference, were they?
I have been using royal purple all the time for my performance car
Conventional oils contain waxes which explains the super slow pour. I use Mobile 1 and my car starts instantly in Sub-Zero temperatures. Better for engine, starter motor, and battery. It's also more stable at high temps and puts less load on cooling system at operating temps (less friction in engine). Full synthetic is just better in many ways.
Mobil 1 is not fully synthetic.
Mobil 1 is full synthetic
FrozenHaxor they offer full synthetic. How is that not full synthetic?
Just bought a used 09 Mustang. First thing I did was drain the oil, and put in Mobil 1.
FrozenHaxor you may be confused with the packaging, as both the Super, and Super High Mileage use the same shape of bottle. The red labeled Super is conventional motor oil. While the blue label Super High Mileage is fully synthetic.
thanks to you guys I now use Mobil 1 performance full synthetic 5w20 in my Veloster.im in the Northeast u.s.
-40 degrees happens everyday around here.
It took some looking but i got a big enough freezer to put all my cars, mowers and power equipment in.
Thanks
This evaluation means a lot.
There are other things to think about with oils besides the temperature, I would still prefer Amsoil over M1
+EvilJ069 you are correct this was just a temp test I dont have a bearing test rig
mattmopar440 It was still a neat video =)
+EvilJ069 It's good to have great choices.
Bob Cloninger Well as a former employee of Walmart, I can attest that anyone using Supertech products deserve what they get
EvilJ069 I'm trying to keep it polite and positive, but since you brought it up - yup.
*Starts pouring Amsoil last*
Tester: "WOW, I expected Amsoil to be first!!!*
Me: ???????
Wouldnt have made a diff. Mobil 1 beat it by a lot
the scary part is once the ams oil bottle is empty it is empty the mobile 1 continues to drip which may mean its not done despite its jump start over ams oil
A quality synthetic is what you should be using.
ruclips.net/video/alnOguGvyh8/видео.html
Granted AMC doesn't have the best oiling systems to begin with so they tend to suffer the most
Should try Pennzoil Platinum and Ultra Platinum against Mobil 1.
should try all brands.
Pennzoil platinum > M1 falling a behind the amsoil
Exactly. After all Platinum is better than Purple.
Penn is junk oil
im pretty sure that if you live in an area that drops below -40 you would most likely have an engine block heater...
Stephen Smith when your out hunting in the U.P. you can't plug it in
Block heaters don't heat the oil pan though just the coolant. Yes the block will be warm but you are still forcing frozen oil though it for 5 minutes until it matches the blocks temperature.
I live in Minnesota where it got to -37 last winter. I don't have a block heater on my car or truck
mattmopar440 use 0w not 5w. These extreme temp with 5w is so stupid.
Stephen Smith shut up, it's just a test. Fucking idiot.
nevermind -40°, what about which one is the thickest at 250°F?
Spot on Dan.
Very good relevant point.
My money is between amsoil and rp
Well considering that the vast majority of engine wear is in that initial cold start I would be more worried about cold flow. Amsoil is top dog all across the board.
@Plant based life Mobil 1 is SAE rated so no it isn't a significant amount thinner.
Try this test again with bottles that are identical and I bet you get different results. too many variables in this test to be conclusive of anything.
ruclips.net/video/alnOguGvyh8/видео.html
1 OZ container ?
Well this video helped , if i ever go to buy a used car and see walmart oil quarts hangin around back the FXXX out of it .. .
nobody backs their oils like amsoil does. hands down
Like I said nobody literally backs their oils like amsoil.
Agreed Amsoil #1 hands down!! But apparently Jacky Chan thinks otherwise. 😑
This is what I learned from this test.......Thank God I live in FLORIDA!
Awesome test guys! Great live demonstration.
I was rooting for the AMS Oil considering how much I paid for it.
+simul8guy Definitely not worth its price of admission.
lmao- I got mobil 1 in my car and bike.
At least after I using AMSOil, I changed to Mobile1 as soon as I needed my oil changed. I never looked back. This video validates my decision. Lol.
Villamor78 amsoil did win, look closely at the end mobil1 did not empty before amsoil.
Amsoil users are really fooled by the marketing
-40 is too cold for 5W30 w/out a block heater. Test would not necessarily correlate to a reasonable cold temp start at all. I would very much like to see a more controlled test run at 0 F. And for gods sake, Mobile is a town in Alabama. In my entire life I have never seen a bottle of Mobile 1 motor oil.
What? You’re joking right?
I've been using Mobil 1 since about 1980 and never any issues. Currently run a 10K mile change interval on my 2017 Ram Hemi using Mobil 1 filters.
Can’t go wrong with Ams oil or Mobil 1.
Now do a hot comparison. And a friction test preferably hot. Love these kinds of tests.
+consaka1 These "tests" are highly unscientific and pretty much useless.
One of our shop trucks is a 2000 dakota, run entirely on Walmart oil for 380k all highway miles still runnin like a champ
Wow, I thought Amsoil would have won, but Mobil 1 was impressive. Still laughing at the Walmart taffy
+vac0002 mobil 1 has a bigger opening
+Lindsay Smith check my channel we did another test with all the same style bottles
+Lindsay Smith you made me curious. Since I have a quart off each, I measured the openings. Both Amsoil and Mobil 1 have a 1-3/16 inch opening. :)
vac0002 yea MOBIL 1 AMSOIL and Royal Purple have the same caps
Thanks for the test.
Mobil 1 emptied faster, but Amsoil quit dripping first.
Soooo... Amsoil emptied faster than right?
@@dominic8786 Yeah, it wasn't initially first, but it caught up at the end.
Excellent test. Now, try 0W oils to show the difference vs. 5W. Even 0W is too thick when cold, so there is really no reason to buy 5W or 10W anymore.
Erichhh shut up. Douscher
Until summer comes and then it's like you've got vegetable oil in your engine and it's barely sticking to anything.
*Dilly Dally* You clearly know little about the viscosity index.
Carl Jr right, because heat doesn't make oil thin and cold air doesn't thicken it. Okee dokee.
*Dilly Dally* Which has little, if nothing, to do with the viscosity effecting the oil sticking to something.
sweet im going to buy me a 60K truck and run walmart oil
Walmart was the base Control
Walmart Syn test
ruclips.net/video/alnOguGvyh8/видео.html
HAHAHA!
It's good oil. Use supertech syn in everything I own including my 2006 supercharged vette and it works great. Name brand oil is a scam in 2019, they all are too close to Matter unless you race your cars in grueling conditions... Which I doubt you do.
Was not a great test + only show one end of the spectrum. Like drawing conclusions while only hearing one side of the story.
And at 3:05 amsoil stopped pouring completely.. Not a single drop after that.. And Mobil 1 was still dripping at 4:05 which is over a minute after Amsoil completed.. So Amsoil flows better.. Even at 6:00 Mobil 1 was still dripping.
less oil in scamoil container
John Doe Both Amsoil and Mobil show the container has filled up to the top.. So they are the same size.
Rayven Wulf yup...amsoil all the way! Runs great in my high flyer mileage car.
it's because of the container and how they tipped it over
Rayven What Amsoil you use? Have any experience with the OE oil?
Mobil 1 extended mile oil is 15K max and amsoil signature is GUARANTEED for 25K, I have been running this oil for 10 yrs, one vehicle I have is an OLD 93 saturn sw2, with over 350K, starts and runs great , would drive it ANYWHERE, and consumes less than 1/2 qt. per 25k. just great product
Awesome work and thanks for posting this. Been using Mobile #1 since the '70's in all my Vermont vehicles.
Some say the walmart oil is still pouring to this day..
1 ounce containers? LOL
+Brian Heiden Thats what i was thinking LOL sure, go ahead put one once of oil on your car...good luck
+Contac77 *ounce
here we go again with the flipping grammar nazi idiots. ever wonder that it could've been the stupid autocorrect feature that changes your words to a whole different word from what you are trying to say? Jeesh
+Contac77 *Here *Ever
*Fuck *You
Mobil 1 great stuff.
sportsmansparadice42 Our mobile one burned up a quart and a half in a 200 mile road trip at 4500 miles at that change. Switched to Amsoil and I haven't needed to change it at 7k. I know what I'm sticking to.
waterloo123100 depends on car
ghd bfb No Oil does the same thing no matter what motor it's in.
waterloo123100 well that's you I've been using Mobil 1 for over 150,000 miles on 3 different cars and had NO mechanical or oil burning issues at all.
I've been using Mobil 1 in Alaska for almost 30 years now. No problems with any of the vehicles at any temperature.
Amsoil signature series, the only 100% synthetic motor oil. Amsoil best.
It looks like the amsoil starter last and finished first. Where is the heat test comparison?
Ok, this is not a valid test. You need to put the oil in beakers with the same pour characteristics i.e. throat size etc. and have them all tipped at the exact same time. We get the idea but come on!
+Matt Cero tipping doesn't matter as you could just time it instead of comparing. also none of them finished close enough for anything else to really matter but he did redo the test in same bottles.
Which can withstand the most heat??? Thats the REAL test!
Andrew Clark actually it might ,because the opening on the mobile one is a tab bit bigger.
Sunil Thomas wal-mart Syn test will be up tonight
Actually Amsoil finished first. You can see the Mobil 1 still drips while Amsoil is done dripping. As soon as he measures the temperature of the Mobil 1 you can see it.
Did you see that amsoil was full of particles?
RockFordCademce
amsoil did not empty entirely. look at the amounts. that means some stayed frozen to the container.
Mobil 1 start ahead but Amsoil finished strong.
I run super tech in both my ‘12 Subaru and my ‘08 f150 and I will not be running that anymore as we today had -10 with wind up here in NH… I’m seriously disappointed and wondering how much damage I’ve done over the years by running a super cheap oil… shame on me
now do the test w the same oils at 212f/100c
I like this idea. Summer temps are what I'm curious about.
Thinner oil...what's the point?
Walmart doesn't blend their own oil, like Mobil, Royal Purple, and AMS Oil. I work for one company that does manufacture their oil and it passes the pour point and cold crank testing requirements. The oil is SN GF5 specifications for API standards. The test also has 5w30 conv, FS, and HM, which all have different additive packages and base oil groups. Mobil 1 and AMSOil are the only products that use group 4 base oils that I know of, but it's only in their best grades of oil (FS).
That's all I use in my cars and trucks mobile 1 its nice to see this test because I store my mustang for the winter I start it every 2 weeks good to know how well mobile one works thanks for the vid
what's the ingredients in the Wal-Mart brand water and cooking oil Lol
Danny soto molasis honey and oil
Royal Purple is just a high priced hyped up market brand. Like paid more to feel better in your dream.
I'm switching to Mobil 1 today!
+TheWakeOfRedemption Your switching to Mobil 1 because of a pourability test alone? There are a dozen specs for oil and any synthetic oil is fine. Some do better in one category than others. Best bet is synthetic oil with best filter you can find with a large surface area and pleat supports .
TheWakeOfRedemption mobile 1 is shit please don't switch, I can explain it to you.
Chet naw that will be royal purple but ok!yea mobile 1 is best but 2nd best!this video proves nothing
TheWakeOfRedemption
Great!!!! I have Amsoil here in Peru in my car recently this year they told me is being imported since last year.
Mobi1 has saved my ass more then a handful of times love it nothing bad to say about amsoil or royal purple besides the price.
Not a very good experiment. All the oils were tipped at different times. Also, the containers were different shapes and sizes. Next time set up a rig to tip them at the same time, and pour them all from identical containers.
the containers were all the same size and shape or are you just blind. lol
+Roy Batty At -40, I highly doubt that any speed advantage was gained by the nominal difference between inversion times of the bottles. You are truly 'batty', Roy. ; ] The three synthetics could have been started two hours after the Wal-Mart conventional and they still would have beaten it.
+Roy Batty Common sense. Learn it please. it doesnt matter if they were not turned at the same time. it was all within 15-20 seconds of each other.
+Roy Batty ruclips.net/video/alnOguGvyh8/видео.html same size containers
+mattmopar440 So you see, the container does make a rather big difference. Now just figure out how to tip them at same time and you should be good.
good test doesn't show film-strength and wear protection how ever
please do test with pennzoil ultra platinum
+edulgar13 I would love to see that too as i use the Ultra plat in my Supra so wanting to see how it compares as well
I would have to say that amsoil and Mobil 1 were dead even, the only reason i think that is because Mobile 1 has a bigger cap, so bigger opening and also how the bottle is designed. easier for air to get in and push the oil out. I would have to say you should only use Amsoil or Mobil 1 in your vehicles! Thanks for the test!
+Jake Smith ruclips.net/video/alnOguGvyh8/видео.html
I'm surprised by the Royal Purple as I would have considered the best one here. Also I am impressed by the Amsoil because I've never thought much of it.
It's a great oil, just not if you live in the arctic
mobile 1 advanced full synthetic (that shit with the gold labeling)
DONE! ....and matching oil filter.
isn't it always -40 in alaska and shit? they have cars and they gotta start.
+TENNSUMITSUMA Alaska has a summertime as well and it can be 80 degrees F. In fact there was a record high of 100 degrees F in Fort Yukon. Also we don't live in igloos here in Canada. Peace and Love

where do you get canada from?! i didn't say anything about canada.
+TENNSUMITSUMA It was a joke. Many people think Canadians live in igloos just as you thought Alaska was always -40.
+carlos oliveira oh, oops
+TENNSUMITSUMA You wouldn't use 5w30 for those temps, so this test is pointless, and Mobil 1 is nothing beyond just decent oil.
good vid!!!

+silvafox07 lol same here
I use baby oil
LMAO dude
My 23 years old car had a blue smoke out of tailpipe. I kept eyes to Mobil 1 5W-30 and purchase it then no more blue smoke. I've used many other brand oil does not help to stop blue smoke. Mobil 1 is the best ever I had.
I have always used mobil 1 so glad to know its the best for the tearable Minnesota winters
