Started off riding for a few minutes each day and now ride 20+ minutes three times a week. I get aerobic exercise but no real strength training other than lower body. Another benefit for me is the pain in my back and joints all disappeared after a few weeks of keto, Intermittent Fasting (IF), and exercising. So glad I found your videos Dr. Berg. I started at 180 lbs. and used all the diets imaginable, weight watchers, 1200 nutritionally dense calories a day (at 4"11 my body acclimated to this calorie level, lowering my metabolism). I was stuck between 145-155 (dependent on exercise combined with Synthroid dosage). I was 142 when I started keto and I was only that weight because in my heart I knew my diabetes was out of control and I was scared. Scared of dialysis, scared of blindness, scared of foot amputations and early death. The main reason, I stumbled across your diet, was because I googled bloating, eating was a dread and painful, and then talked to a relative who has lost 44 lbs on your diet (you should hear his story!) Today, after 8 weeks of keto, supported by a daily swim and/or hike, and trying out a 5 day fast, I weigh 121 lbs. and I am no longer considered medically overweight. All of me feels much much better, much younger even. Thank you. I shall live a long life and be active for my grandchildren to come. We all grow older but quality of life is something precious. Keto is no longer a diet to me, but now my lifestyle, once past the Keto flu, not only is the diet relatively easy--eating a meal and half a day, but my sugars have stabilized. No insulin for me and my metformin dosage is the lowest possible, once a day. If a 55 year old lady, bloated and diabetic with a radiated thyroid can do this, so can anyone! Sorry for the long winded story! Just so proud today! Thank you again for all your hard work. It is helping thousands of people.

It's amazing how many doctors do not understand these basic concepts. After all, our treatment for insulin resistance is just to give more insulin. The worst thing ever.
In type 2 diabetes, the goal is to make your cells sensitive again to insulin. That requires fasting.
In type 1 diabetes, your pancreas is damaged and does not make insulin. Therefore you need an exogenous source of insulin.
And I have no idea why this doctor would tell your dad and he can't eat eggs unless your dad also has a cholesterol issue, which he probably does, and the doctor believes that cholesterol problems come from eggs. SMH.

Do you know why the main stream doctors call their profession "practicing" medicine? They are experimenting with you. It's your body. Check everything they tell you to do. That's why I like listening to this guy, and I also have a holistic doctor who doesn't practice. He knows.

    • @curious1366

They may be professional doctors, but they aren't professional nutritionists. They don't study nutrition in school much or at all, and they just follow whatever what people have been passed down for many years.
I call them conventional medicine-- think "conservative" = not making changes, not open to what's new or true. Mostly following who pays them to say things.
Get a professional who is studying what is current, what is evidence-based.
Just because they are professionals, you don't trust them for everything.... you don't go to a foot doctor for your heart problems!

Just curious, i used to be able to put on fat around 16 but I am 19 now and I am so lean and dry I hate it, no matter what its like my body doesnt process the calories. Could I have adult type 1? I really dont know why I’m like this now. When I was 16 I was 5’6 and now I’m 5’9 so could that be the reason? I just dont think that makes sense.

I've always been skinny. I'm the heaviest I've ever been at only about 150lbs as a 5'9" male. This video might explain why. Due to ADHD, I never enjoyed meal prep, cooking, cleaning, and all that. I didn't like snacks either since it was the same thing over and over. I would get bored quick. I adapted by only eating 1 to 2 times a day, but in HUGE portions. Like 1000-2000+ calories huge. If it wasn't 1000+ calories, I wasn't interested in eating it.
It was basically intermittent fasting. In terms of time spent eating, it'd be less than an hour a day, but I'd scarf down 2000-3000 calories in that time. Sometimes even 4000 if I indulged in drinks! Despite that, I never went over about 150lbs. My job also requires a lot of walking (~20,000+ steps a day), so that also helps. Despite a very poor diet, I'm 150lbs and in relatively decent shape.

I've been on keto for a full year now, I started off at 27 stone 4 lbs, and am now 16 stone 8lbs, I was incredibly sceptical when I started keto, but the difference, not just visually is insane, my skin is better, even my mood and memory are better, people haven't liked to ask how, why or what's been happening, it's been a nice reaction. Intermittent fasting was the real game changer, that made a massive difference. If I could give anyone any advice at all, it's stay off the diet and zero drinks, and avoid the bars that contain maltitol, that stuff seems to be ok, it really isn't. These videos have really helped, maltodextrin is next on the list of foods to avoid, it's unnerving to discover how much it's in. I feel now as if I understand the part food/snacking has on all of your body, not just feeling full at meal times. It's a pity that here in the UK people seem to be as poorly educated on nutrition, as they are elsewhere. Thank you for your content.

Calories do work. I lost 130 pounds doing 2000 calories. I didn't limit carbs. Aside from a few months in 2019 going from 330 to 300. I lost first 30 ish pounds working my job no diet. It's intense cardio. Lost from 300 to 230 by anabolic diet. High protein low fat. I do low carb if I'm craving after a cheat day. Also helps water retention for quick results. It's a great tool and good if you diabetic. I also fasted 16/8 most of that weight loss. I am now over working and my willpower is not where it was so my appetite is high and need to do low carb for awhile to get back on track. Or get more willpower and stick with it till it's not a struggle anymore. I went overboard on my birthday and got lazy dieting and now I'm paying for it. So I been losing and gaining for months. But I'm kinda happy to be where I am. I still want to lose another 30 pounds. My goal is to get to the 230s again and then maintain for a bit then get to the 220s

Cows, although they eat grass which is carbohydrates, actually don't convert much of it to glucose. Their microbes ferment it and convert it to short chain fatty acids, which the cow absorbs and utilizes for energy.
70-80 percent of their daily calories come from fat. In fact, it's scientifically correct to say that ruminants are on ap high fat, low carb diet.

It's definitely harder on keto, but not impossible. You're gonna have to make sure you eat more calories than you burn. Make sure you get .5 to 1 gram of protein per lbs of body weight. Then fill the rest of your appetite with as much keto friendly calories as possible. Also, cut down on the fasting. You're not gonna gain weight on keto unless you're eating often. I'd say fast no more than once a week at the absolute most. Probably better to do it once every two weeks. If you're only worried about longevity.....I would cut the fasting out to maybe a couple times the next year until you've gained you're goal weight.

The only thing I did is following the plan of intermittent fasting, I tried 18 - 6 plan (where you eat 2 meals a day within 6 hours and not eating anything for 18 hours) - during the 18 hours I do still drink water, ACV with lemon, Tea and coffee with no sugar and no cream. serious cut on junk processed food and sugary drinks. On occasions like birthday parties or family gathering I still enjoy snacks, ice cream, cake and all other goodies, healthier choices though.
