I have the previous model and it's easier to zip the hipbelt pockets if the side compression straps are tight becuase those are thatt hold against your pull. Make no mistake it's still tricky to operate them. As it's visible on the video at 8:49 the compression strap is loose and Kevin can barely zip it while on the other side it's more tight and he can use it quet well.
You did an amazing job on the presentation thank you. I bought one an hour prior watching this video and thank you once again I know now I picked a good pack
The holes/open spaces either side of the dividing flap are for allowing tent poles to slide through. Most packs with a sleeping bag compartment divider have them.
I take a hook carabiners and use the lid as a sort of Fupa Fannypack. I just attach it to the backpack straps with carabiners and it’s the perfect front pack easily holds all my electronics ,snacks for the day , tools ,first aid kit easy to take on get into and take off with the S hook carabiners. I also added more padding to the straps and a water bottle holder on the strap because I like it to get too my water easily and it’s not easy to get in to the side pockets and water bottles tends to fall out when you walk. it is almost 5 pounds but it is one of the most versatile and comfortable packs I’ve ever had. If you’re looking to go ultralight pass this up if you need something for now or just a weekend backpacker you couldn’t get any better than this for the price . My main complaint with this is that there’s not a lot of front storage like he pointed out the side pockets are a joke
Bought mine 2 weeks ago and used it for the first time last weekend. Agree with you about the hip pouches being impossible to close when on the move. Had snacks in both mine and once pouches opened that was the way they both stayed!!!!! Over here in Europe they now provide a rain cover in the top most pocket, means a bit of a tight fit if you put anything else in it. Unless, that is, you don't take the cover with you. Not recommended in the English Lake District!
From what I've seen the older model had the same issue with the hip pouch. Surprised they didn't correct that with the 2018. After reading this I had to double check to see if mine had a rain fly that I didn't notice... nope no rain fly! Strange. I've went on a couple hikes with it now and I'm really liking it. Thanks for commenting!
Dozens of reviews watched and 12 - 5 day hikes and I did not know that the hip belts could be adjusted. Hummmmm... They have been fine but I'll try them out two marks on the next hike. Thanks.
I'm surprised this version doesn't have an integrated raincover. I believe it's a difference between the European market and the American market, because I have the 2017 version and I saw videos of other Americans reviewing the 2017 version and it didn't have one either.
My brother has the same bag, maybe a little older. He likes it, says it pretty comfortable. I have Exos 48 I think and even though it's lighter, I hate the hip belt. I like a lighter pack, but i've tried his and who knows I may pick one up, just to be more comfortable when hiking.
Good pack! I had to go a little bigger with the 65, since I do a lot of winter camping. When I have a smaller load I can remove the lid, so I like the feature.
I might take another look at the sleeping bag compartment. The Osprey site says: "Lower zippered sleeping bag compartment with removable divider." If it's not removable that would be a deal breaker for me. Solid video!
Thanks! and sorry for the late response. So I double checked to see if it was removable. I think what they mean by removable divider is that you have the option for the seperate bag compartment, or you can open it to extend the main compartment. There is two compression straps on one side of that divider flap, but the other end is still sewn into the pack. Hope that makes sense.
I believe you have to unthread the straps on the inside to remove the divider between the main compartment and the sleeping bag compartment. I haven't done this on mine but I have adjusted it and that only way I can see you could remove the divider. Not a big deal really but also not a quick on the go process.
Just looked at one before watching this and found the problem with the hip pockets, as you say if you dont open all the way its cool.I thought it would have been a good idea for the top removable section to have a 'belt' so you could use it as a bum bag or fanny bag lol, for small walks from camp? but im sure I can add a strap!!
Definitely a good idea to have straps on the lid. The Kelly coyote has it with straps. Makes a good slackpack! I guess it would be possible to add them to the atmos, I'll have to check. Thanks for bringing that up though I hadn't thought of that.
Hi Brad! Each shoulder strap has two, small, horizontal straps. They are a few inches apart from eachother. Whether your sheath is large or small, you should be able to tie the sheath to them with paracord/clip. I did it with my Benchmade Dagger SOCP
Hi, great videos on your channel. question! is that mesh material on the back system, sturdy enough and can hold up for few years or not? And in general are you happy with your purchase?
Thank you! It seems sturdy enough, I think the structure is in the frame so the mesh isn't exactly what's giving it its shape. The issue I have is with squeaking sound it makes. I should have sent it in already to see if Osprey could do something, but I thought it would go away after I broke it in for a while. I even sprayed a little silicon where I thought the noise was coming from, but no luck. I really like the comfort and air flow through it. But to be honest, It's not a whole lot better than my Kelty Redstone 60 was. And a lot less cash!
Oh! Great , thanks for the information, I guess I put in my top 3 list of consideration alongside with Lowe Alpine Altus and Deuter, really appreciated the info. Good luck with your trails.
@@UpNorthAdventures Hello, brother! Its called the Osprey Squeak and they are aware of it. I've read, online, of folks reaching out and Osprey replying that their product team is working on a fix. May be worth a shot to reach out. Perhaps they have a fix by now.
Love seeing the new packs, just too bad my hip, knees and ankles say "no more" to carrying that much load in the woods. I gave my wonderful -- and little used -- Vaude pack of similar size to my goddaughter's older brother, who wants to start backpacking.
I was thinking of going frameless to lighten up but then I would have to lighten all my other gear, which gets expensive. So I'm hoping this pack lasts as long as I'm able to keep hiking. I'm sure your hand me down is much appreciated. My first pack was given to me too and that's all it took to get me hooked.
Wish I could answer that. When I was looking to buy I couldn't find any info explaining the difference between the two. So I don't know if there even is any. Thanks for subscribing!
WALDO I have both. The 2016 version doesn’t have loops/straps on the bottom for the sleeping pad. The new one does. The mesh pocket on the front of the pack is also a little redesigned, less mesh/more canvas material. Also, the webbing on the back of the new pack (the trampoline- Iike suspension mesh that touches your back) goes up a bit further on the new pack. Minor changes though, nothing major that would impact performance.
Very good video and presentation. I liked it so much I subscribed to your channel. How much does the backpack weight? Thank you so much for sharing this video. God bless you.
Thanks! I'm 5'11" tall, but for sizing your pack it's more important to measure the length of your torso, rather than your actual height. My torso is 21" so I went with the large.
Does it squeak? My Atmos 65 AG (2016) squeaked after two uses and is annoying on long trails. Also that pocket zipper flaw you discovered existed in the 2016 version
Yes! It's terrible. It didn't at first but I just back from a 4 day trip and it squeaked the whole time. Super annoying! I have to contact osprey to see if they can fix it. Did they solve the problem for you? I'm surprised they didn't correct these issues with the new model.

You can actually combine the main compartment with the sleeping bag compartment by undoing the separator straps
The holes/open spaces either side of the dividing flap are for allowing tent poles to slide through. Most packs with a sleeping bag compartment divider have them.
Good to know thanks!
Thanks for the comprehensive and scenic review!
Your welcome! Thanks for checking it out.
The most comfortable pack I have ever put on for sure. I am sure you will grow to love this pack. Great review!!!
Thanks! Looking forward to an extended trip with it, but so far so good.
Thanks Kevin, just got my Atmos AG, newbie backpacker so very helpful.
and for me - thanks so much for making this informative video - will purchase this model tomorrow

Excellent video. Best review of this pack on RUclips Thanks
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
Excellent review. Nice to hear somebody give both the good and bad on a product. thanks.

12:20 That little clip is for hanging Osprey water bladder.
Oh ok well that makes sense. I don't use a bladder so I hang my keys on it. Thanks for pointing that out.
I got one of these bags for 40 percent off and I had a gift card for the store so I got my pack for 140 bucks and I seem to like the bag so far
Where did you buy it?
Great review. Really enjoyed your video and scenery around it.
Thanks Jason!
Came for the pack, stayed for the dog
You can fold over and tuck the extra strap behind the pouches on the hip belt
I appreciate the video. I have an Atmos 65 AG on order. I had one 12 years ago and sold it, thinking I was over backpacking.
Thanks! Good to hear you are getting back into it.
an extra like for the dog!

Osprey is Amazing i have the version before ag with different air version ( older ) Atmos from 2012 50L in large & its still like new …great 👍🏾

I've heard that mentioned before. Strange! I would definitely like that option.
Just ordered one to replace my Montane grand tour which annoys the hell out of me. Can't wait to test it out . Nice review
7:13 what is the height of the bag when the top lid is removed?
27"

Nice review. wha do you doo with the extra line from the hip belt???
Thanks! I just slide them under the hip pockets.
That's a really nice back pack.
Solid review, just bought the bag! wondering, how would I attach a nylon knife sheath to the exterior?
Thanks! I've never attached my knife sheath to it so not sure on that.

He got a top-of-the-line German-made modern internal-frame pack in pristine condition. I started with a BSA canvas ruck, lol.
Is there a difference between the 2018 and the 2016 one?

That's awesome! I was torn between grey or the blue. Congrats
I was too!!! Grey looks clean but I got the blue cause it why not

Thanks so much! It's the large and weighs 4.56lbs. Appreciate the sub!
Good review, thanks Kevin!

He's got no patience so I brought him home lol.

I came here for pack review. Subbed for those Canada Gooses. Only thing better than Canada gooses is Canada mooses
What place is that?
Filmed at Brule state forest, NCT, & St.Croix lake. Wisconsin

Hello sir

Do you think that this backpack would be good??
Hello, after using this pack a few times now I'm really liking it. I think it would be a great choice.
Kevin Smith

Do you get the squeak fixed?

Appreciate it! Ditto
The introduction is too long
Too much boring
no one needs to see yourself
I just bought the new version and hopefully no noises when walking?
