We visited York Christmas market on Sunday. I did not find the Christmas market as a whole to be worth the trip. The stalls sold mass produced items, even things that said hand made were not always true. There were a few that I found interesting, but overall no. If you like street food, then you may like it as there was a lot. The lights and decorations were very nice- definitely a Christmas feel. Having. Ever been to York, The shambles stores were far better than the stalls. The old cobblestone walkways, architecture, and decor saved the day. Note- the shops close much earlier than the market, so save the market for last.
Thanks Lisa and good to see the food offerings have improved! Overall it is the medieval setting (streets like the Shambles) that makes the market rather than the stalls themselves.
today we have been round the market , we went in to kings square and watched a young lady busker singing , as we stood there 2 fire armed police officers ..not policemen ,.... they had 2 im no expert but what looked like sub automatic machine guns , walked by us , the this lady said to us .. DID I JUST SEE THAT ,,, i said ,, yes ...this is what we have come too now .... armed officers are our Christmas markets
Unfortunate necessity now I'm afraid and every Christmas markets I've visited in the UK provisions in place, such as barriers to prevent vehicle entry. Given just after your comment, we saw the incident in the German Christmas markets - I would take the heightened security measures every time!
Looks nice
Well a Christmas market in a medieval city is a pretty great and unique combination!
