      Thank you. Some people are unfortunately quite rude about any method of acquiring a pet other than getting one from a shelter.

      Yeah some people think animals don’t have feelings. But are we animals? YES! We are animals to and we have feelings. People don’t know that and people treat other animals like they are nothing. Who else hates that?

    I think your knowledge of bunny genetics would be great for homeschoolers or a cool public school teacher to incorporate a field trip to your place and have the children estimate what the offspring of a certain buck and doe would be, then to see the results. I imagine cute drawings to go along with their xy+xx combinations.

    I commend you on your knowledge of genetics. As a rescuer, I see the worse issues attributed to poor genetics. I just lost my Boniface due to genetics. I agree the water crocks do accumulate "debris" but I (and the buns) have always preferred them to bottles which need more effort in cleaning. My crocks are ceramic and get rinsed and fill twice a day. I have to spend so much more time on the bottles even though it's a few days between. You are also very hands-on. I can't think of any breeder/owner who spends as much time and effort with her buns. I love your videos for education and refer people to your channel constantly.

    You can connect the Critter Nation’s side by side as well :) I have a triple wide currently for my guinea pigs. You just build it without the sides and zip tie them together - it’s fairly simple!

      What happens when your pigs chew the zip ties and it all falls apart and they escape ?

    • @ToriLynnPPH
      @ToriLynnPPH 6 лет назад +2

      Reptilian Queen Michelle The zip ties are in locations where the pigs can’t get to them (top of the cage front and back, under the floorpans) so that’s not an issue. Critter Nation’s also won’t fall apart by just have a side missing - they’re incredibly sturdy cages and all the parts slot together.

    They are the same cage. The only difference between ferret and critter nation is the orientation and spacing of the bars. If you want to combine them side by side it is a hack. You just leave of the side panels on the connecting side and use zip ties or metal clamps to hold the two cages together

    • @jenovevabarnes1817

    Do your rabbits get sore hocks from using the wire litter box? And how do your rabbits like them.... do they like the ones without the wire... and do they fit comfortably on it?

    • @HooksHollands
      @HooksHollands  4 года назад

      They are in the litter boxes just a few minutes each day, so there is no issue with sore hocks in my experience. The wire-grate box is the only style I use since it keeps the bunnies out of their waste.

    Hi,
    I find it quite brave that you show how you hold your bunnies. It is so true, everybody has an opinion how to hold bunnies.
    Mine are freeroam indoor rabbits as I have no garden. And yes, there are people who never had a bunny in their life, who think they know better. As for example: but bunnies needto be outdoors, they need sun.well, how to explain that my bunnies hate the balbony, and that they likechilling under my bed?
    On certain online forums it is the same: you have tohave a certainopinion onhow to hold bunnies, otherwise some internet users start with hate comments.
    So again, thanks for sharing your opinion with the everybunny.

    I always love your videos! HELP
    I'm rescuing a one year old bunny. This bunnys owner passed away. Now he's living with someone else that can't take care of him. I will be helping him to find a new home and he'll live with me until he does. I wasnt planning on getting a rabbit but I saw this one in need and wanted to help. I'm just worried that he will be moving around too much. Should I put him up on sale as soon as he comes or should I wait like a week so that he is less stressed? Or should I just tell the owner to put him in a place where they have plenty of rabbits to rehome (they're kind).. But the thought saddens me.
    / I cant keep him because I have big dog and I'm already waiting for my second puppy. I'm just his last resort until he finds a loving home. It is very difficult for the owner to find a new home already so I think it would take some time to find a place anyways. Thoughts?

    Hi! I don't know how you cut bunny nails, but I would recommend 2 things. One, put your phone with the flashlight on underneath the bunny's paw, makes it much easier to see, but my other tip is the real gamechanger, get a piece of tulle, push it gently against the bunny's paw, it will hold the fur back, and the nails will push through, it is really easy to cut nails this way!

    I wish I could take my bunnies outside . There is a disease here on Vancouver Island they is killing the rabbits. I not sure if it is in my town yet. So I am not taking any chances. And so they are not getting any grass or weeks like Dandelions .

    Not everyone can free roam their bunnies. I know that others say that you are cruel if you have them in a cage but she shows that it depends on what you do. My holland is obsessed with her cage but it is a large one. It is her safe place. She has an enclosure like her outside ones that she plays in. But the layout of my house and our schedules do not allow for her to be free roam. It all depends on your situation and your bunny. And mine is happy and healthy even though she is not free roam.

    I pretty much raise my rabbits the same way you do. I have a similar double decker cage about the same size. I have Angora so it's pretty impossible to use water bowls, as water causes wool to mat. I've never had an issue with them not getting enough water, but mine are inside in AC. Not sure if it would make any difference if I kept them outside in hutches.

    I got a Holland Lop and I got her when she was 6 months old. I have 2 other rabbits Lion Head (Donald) and a Dutch ( Sky) I adopted them 2 at an adult age. They were pretty set in their ways. So my question is my Holland Lop (June) is 1 now and she doesn’t like me to pet her she only comes to me when I have food. She scatters away from me and doesn’t come to me the way the other two do. What can I do to bond with her? I find it difficult to get close to her because she just seems ve independent. Thank you in advance for your advice! And I absolutely love your channel! Thanks for all your knowledge!

      Sitting calmly in a small area and letting your bunny come to you but otherwise ignoring your bunny is a good way to help your bunny learn you aren't a threat. Spaying/neutering also helps to mellow many bunnies.

    Notice only your babies play together. Can the adult females not be together? Or the males as long as there isn’t a doe around?

      Unless spayed/neutered or female siblings who've always lived together, I wouldn't chance it. Rabbits are very territorial, and ears can get bitten in an instant. (I speak from experience sadly)

    I’m not a breeder but when I first got my rabbit and she accidentally got pregnant, she had 6 babies as did one of her babies female I kept. I have now had them all done or they have been sold to good homes. My question is how come yours seem to have small litters of 1-3 yet both my female rabbits had 6 babies? Just genuinely curious, is it something to do with their breed?

      True dwarf Hollands have smaller litters on average than false dwarf Hollands (and many larger breeds).

    Hello! I have a couple questions: How can you know for sure if a bunny is a false dwarf or a true dwarf? And where did you learn all about the genetics? Also, I have heard that you can't use fabric in your bunnies cage because they will eat it and cause digestive issues but yours seem to leave the mats alone. Is there a secret?

    • @HooksHollands
      @HooksHollands  4 года назад

      I highly recommend the book About Bunny Colors by Ellyn Eddy. Also, this video might be helpful: ruclips.net/video/FWr6nGkl66Q/видео.html
      The bunnies usually either leave the fabric alone or nibble holes here and there. I've never had an issue with excessive chewing, but if that were to happen, I would remove the fabric from that bunny's environment.

    I plan on keep my bunny in the house. I am getting her on the 20th of July. I am not sure what she is as far as the name of the color. I just know she is all brown or orange with a little white patch above her nose. It is the first time I have had one. So I have a lot to learn. I believe she is also a Holland lop-eared. I have been buying a few things for her. Wood to chew on, a dish for water and one for food. I have a wood hutch I got on Amazon. I think it needs more venting on the top. I am waiting for the thing she goes potty in. I will look at more videos about food and what she can have and not have. I feel bad taking her from mommy bunny. Wondering if there is something to comfort her at night.

      Gentle, calm interaction and allowing her time to adjust to her new environment is helpful. A night light might soothe her as well as a box or other hideout.

    i'm curious about hazel - or any false dwarf - is there the potential for one in any litter? and at what point do you know that a bunny is a false dwarf? as a breeder is it something you seek? or mixed blessing of no peanuts but perhaps not as ideal features/size?
    love when you get to talking about bunny genetics - so interesting!

    • @HooksHollands
      @HooksHollands  5 лет назад +1

      There is always a possibility of a false dwarf since true dwarf bunnies have only one copy of the dwarf gene that they either do or do not pass to offspring. True dwarf x true dwarf yields 50% true dwarf offspring, 25% false dwarf, and 25% peanuts. False dwarf x false dwarf rabbit yields all false dwarf babies since there are no dwarf genes present. Bunnies with double dwarf genes (peanuts) do not live and cannot reproduce, so the breeding rabbits always have either a single dwarf gene or no dwarf genes. I'm hoping that made sense, as I am tired and hangry. :)
      I personally like false dwarf does like my Hazel and Cora since they do not have peanuts and have an easier time kindling (delivering babies). Sometimes, you can tell after a few weeks if a baby is a false dwarf, and other times, the features are not so prominent (long ears, pointy muzzles, larger size) and requires test breeding to determine with certainty.

      LOL...
      The farm girl in me has to point out that nearly all plants are grown with a form of fertilizer, whether it be a sprayed chemical like liquid nitrogen or fertilizer concoction or manure from cows, pigs, chickens, or humans (yes, some farmers have human feces from treatment plants dumped on their fields). You may never eat plants again, ha ha! 😉
