I’ve tried to cook brown rice for the first time and came to RUclips for some guidance. After watching many videos I came across this one and his technique made complete sense to me! I tried with some additions and love it.
1st - I added some sea salt in the boiling water
2nd - After the rice was almost on the cooking point I like, I strained the extra water and then let it rest on a bowl while I fried some onions in olive oil. Then added the rice to the pan, stir fried it for a while and added the extra bit of water retained on the bowl and let it cook in low heat until the water evaporates.
    It was sooooooo delicious! ♥️♥️♥️

Your suggestions are great the rice does come out perfect. I learned from a chef that worked many years in the original NYC's Chef Chan's that everyone should thoroughly clean the rice by rubbing it with your fingers under clean water untill the water runs clear. He asked if I knew how rice was grown and handled you would be sure to wash it well both brown and white rice.

Brian O'Neill I think they are talking about showing us “the finished product” by lifting some grains of rice from the boiling pot. If that’s it, then the guy should follow through to the end, straining the rice and serving it Ie. Confirming that there are no more steps. He didn’t do that, which makes the video super incomplete.

Hello viewers, I went to RUclips for advice on how to cook this rice and it doesn't work, at all. Your rice will come out soggy and look like oatmeal. We had the rice and cooked it from 8:00 to 8:30 you would think this is pudding, not rice. I highly recommend finding another recipe, if you can even call *this* a recipe.

how do I know its cooked? I like when the grains are a little crunchy. Also, should I put rice in the boiling water in the beginning? thanks

    • @jerryjamesstone

you can try a few grains while cooking to check the texture and yes, boil the water first.

I’m prepping for dinner so I haven’t tried your method yet but you get a thumbs up for not stretching the video to 20 minutes.

Definitely works. Thanks. Soaking for two hours or overnight further reduces cooking time. Greetings from Yorkshire.

I've switched to brown rice..👀 I always liked to add a stock cube (veg, chicken, beef depending on the meal) and/or a half teaspoon of turmeric to my Basmati rice if it's curry.. my elderly neighbours think I'm a great cook (shhh 🤫 haha) but I wondered whether I could treat brown rice in the same way?
Edit: ooh also, can brown rice be fried ok in a stir fry?

    Thanks Jerry!
    It worked for me. :)
And for those who are curious as I was whether you still had to soak the rice for 20mins before cooking (as I was), the answer is NO. Well, at least for me, it worked. I saw no difference despite not soaking it.
