  • Comparing Samsung's Galaxy S23 with the old S22, with a hands-on review of the camera tech, specs and other features. A full unboxing and review of the Samsung Galaxy S23 is incoming but here's a run-through of the changes and upgrades. Spoiler alert: beyond the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, it's mostly the same hardware as the S22!

To pre-order the Galaxy S23 and Plus with a special credit deal: howl.me/ci2Lgsjg88f
The camera sensors haven't changed up around back, with the Samsung S23 once again offering 50MP, 12MP and 10MP shooters - the latter being ultra-wide and telephoto lenses. However, compared with last year's smartphones, Samsung reckons the Galaxy S23 can take better low light snaps. And the selfie cam has been upgraded to a 12MP sensor, with improved HDR abilities. Check back for the full review to see how much of an impact the image processing updates have made!
The Samsung Galaxy S23 is another compact handset with a 6.1-inch display, but it packs Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for beefy performance. Here's hoping the battery life is better too, with a slight capacity boost and that energy efficient Qualcomm chipset.
What's your thoughts ahead of my full unboxing? Pre-orders open now, and the UK release date is Feb 17. That price is £849 for 128GB, and £899 for the 256GB model.

The last time I upgraded and there was a big obvious change was when I went from the Galaxy S6 to the S8. I then went to the S10 and didn't notice too big of an upgrade at all. I since jumped to the S21fe and decided I'll just wait a good few years until something other than a change to the camera bump comes out.

@Le Pont If you want to upgrade in hope of new features etc then no. I only upgraded because my S10 sadly got damaged. Otherwise, I'd still have it. If you're upgrading because you need to then it's ok. The s21fe is a reasonable price with pretty much everything the S10 has minus the headphone jack and curved display (which I personally prefer the flat display)

@@lepontRL It’s a tuff call these days mate , while you do get very slight improvements in the usual stuff , camera and chipset as you would with any new released phone , at the end of the day , all devices from the big manufacturers are imo actually very similar , and imo in some ways they are clearly a downgrade from older models.
I still have and use my trusty old note 9 which still does the job ok , it has dex, a Bluetooth S pen that came with a variety of nibs and tool to change them , it also came with an SD card and a headphone jack , AKG wired buds , eye scanner , rear finger print sensor , heart rate sensor , an on the go connector , a charging brick , and a clear case , and it cost about 400 bucks less .
If they bought out another galaxy note 9 with an updated chipset I’d be all over it , I am in a lot of ways disappointed with these recent years watered down models .
Even my dear old S8+ in a lot of ways except for the single speaker puts the modern replacements to shame imo.
I miss the older full featured models that had great build quality and the value built into them, my S8+ I still use around the house occasionally and it still works like a beauty at 6 years old , I’d be surprised if you would see a fold even working faultlessly at 3 years old let alone 6 .

There is really better options out there than this phone...as a samsung fan I wish sales for this phone tanks ...so that Samsung would actually improve it ... because there is no reason for anyone to be paying a premium price for the s23 & s23+....these phones are not flagship phones they are just midrange phones with flagship processors yet Samsung expect people to pay flagship price for these ...honestly I'd rather buy a discounted s22ultra or if I want a smaller phone I'd look elsewhere...Samsung has become worse than apple ... because with apple you still get all the specs of the pro max on the pro to justify the premium price but Samsung continue to cut corners on the plus model yet keeps raising it's price

I see lots of comparison videos where the Samsung S22 Ultra fails in comparison to other phones. In my experience, I find it amazing how good the pictures are at night in general. I can take pictures of the sky and see stars in the photo that nobody can see with our naked eyes. I built an igloo and the pictures from inside at night are very clear and bright. The zoom is awesome. The battery is great. The only complaint is finding a protective glass for the screen that doesn't have a circle on the fingerprint reader.

Let's be real here. The most important question is. Is it worth that much? I don't believe so. The entire phone industry went off the rails. Today, this is a camera with a SIM card rather than a phone. Who needs 8k? Even now, 70% of households lack 8K televisions. So there is no need for this. Who requires 200 MP images? Everybody creates images on the fly. Perhaps we have two or three days a year to test all the other features, but in the end, hardly nobody uses this. Prices are becoming absurd, obscene, greedy, and disgusting. Samsung has not really convinced me with this model till some fresh innovation occurs.
