  • For my first Peak District wildcamp I chose Kinder Scout. The journey up from Gloucestershire was pretty fraught with road closures and delays caused by accident on the motorway but once I got there I was blown away by the place. I went up via Ringing Roger, camped above Grindslow Clough and descended via Grindslow Knoll. with the heather in full bloom and both the evening and morning blessed with sunshine what more could I ask? I'll definitely be back.

    Perhaps if people realised how much work is involved in putting out this content for the benefit of others they might think before criticising. I’m 64 and still enjoy these places and will be up there this week but there are people watching these who are not able but still experience what they once had through these videos. Bailing is no reflection on experience or equipment it’s just personal choice either for comfort or safety. Thankyou for showing us your trips!!

      It does take a fair bit of time to produce the videos but I enjoy the process so it's not a hardship. It does make the hikes a bit longer though. 😄. Enjoy your trip to the Peaks, and thanks for watching. ATB, Roger

      She gets a day out in her favourite part of the country and dinner in her favourite restaurant. Can't do more than that. And yes, the morning on this trip just made my heart sing. ATB, Roger

    Only ever been to the Peak District once about 8 years ago, we stopped for 3 days and had 4 days of none stop rain, so never been back. Great views and the heather looked great and hopefully you get a good couple of sunny days in the lakes for Linda's birthday. I hare driving at the best of time but for me the dive to the lakes in over the Moors but the drive to the Peaks is down the A1M, so another reason I have not been back. You got some amazing evening colours in the skies once you pitched up and shame about Linda's shoulder, it's neck with Mrs Metalman. Oh I have had those comments before, you should not have done this of that, you do not take thing seriously when out (I never take anything seriously) and I am a proud fair weather hiker and camper, I never respond either, just delete, block and laugh! Nice morning to wake up too and if there is a good sunrise, I always like to be up for it. Enjoy the Lakes, cheers Alan

      Thanks Alan. We've been to the Peak District a couple of times for long weekends walking but never camped before. It's a trek up the M5/M6 before going cross-country so a bit of a mission. The Lakes is even farther of course but once you're past Manchester its not too bad. We had a couple of days in Keswick, knocked off 5 of the smaller Wainwrights and had a couple of good dinners out. Linda's happy which is always good. All the best, Roger

    Roger!.. Thank you. I’m sitting in the rain in France, a few days away from returning to the UK. You have made me long for the heather. As it happens, I’m hoping to meet my cousin in the Peak District on the way home. I’ll be sharing this video with him, it’s lovely. Firstly, glad you had such a beautiful experience in glorious weather. Secondly, I hope Linda’s shoulder is on the mend & have a lovely time in the lakes. And finally…. Bloody trollers 😡 why oh why would anyone pick on your videos?!?! I can learn a lot from you, you’re a natural. Keep ‘em coming! All the best 😊 Sue 👍

    Beautiful location, stunning sunrise; you may well have inspired me to pitch up there. Ignore negativity on RUclips, it merely reflects on the person that writes the comment. Looking forward to your next adventure, I hope that your other half recovers quickly. - Hedley

    Good to see your take on KS Roger. I used to go a fair bit but it is nigh on two years since I was last there. Watching this makes me want to put that right. As for Grindsbrook....I've always called it 'G-rinds' rather than 'Grin-ds' but think I'm in a minority.

    Nice to see you enjoying a new area, and good timing for me as I'll be up that direction for the first time at the end of the month!
    Despite your outstanding demo of the X-Mid, sold the MSR and ended up going with a Lanshan 2. Cant argue with the price really! Only tested couple nights in a campsite but spacious, shrugged off a day of rain, just needs a few mods. Invested in some poles (I'm a convert!), water filter and quilt too. Ready for the next micro-adventure!
    Happy birthday to Linda, hope you both have a great time in the Lakes!

    • @thewanderingforester
      @thewanderingforester  14 дней назад +1

      I have a Lanshan 1 that I haven't used for ages. They are really good value, I'm sure you won't regret getting one. I prefer the cosiness of a 1P tent but they do tend to lack storage space, hence the X-Mid. Enjoy your trip up there. ATB, Roger

    Great video Roger. Funny about those trolls, by the time one gets to our age we can tell what these clowns are up to in a nano second. The reason we got to our age is because we use common sense. Good on you mate. Atb
