TheStraightPipes Yes, except for acceleration and speed
No it’s not at all
Tesla Model Y or Kona EV
Much worse than a Tesla. Jaguar is bad enough with its electronics so I don't see why anyone would buy this. This has 234 miles of range and 4.8s 0-60 for $75,000 is ridiculous. A fully loaded Model 3 Performance is $65,000 with 310 miles of range and 3.2s 0-60. The iPace makes no sense at all.
TheStraightPipes I would prefer a Tesla Model 3.

Omg, loved that TIE fighter bit. That was hilarious
Hey guys just wanted to let you know that we really appreciate your attention to quality on these reviews. The camera work and editing is top notch and really separates you guys from the rest of the pack. Absolutely love watching your reviews, your opinions are always unbiased and fair, you never leave me needing to know more about a car, and your videos are super visually pleasing. Keep up the awesome work you guys!!🤘
I agree, you can get one now with about 20K of incentives. This car is a steal now.
Jacob: At least it’s not a TIE Fighter
Yuri: AHHHHHHHHHHHH
I just wonder how nowadays infotainment seems to be the biggest feature in cars. I bought this Jag because of it's great to drive, comfortable and looks great. I've been driven it now 3 moths and never had any angst with "slow" infotainment. I-Pace is The Car, not a space invader and meant for drive like a JAG and not fiddle with touch screens. And CarPlay works fine.
These days because of smartphones people want their cars to be a smartphone on 4 wheels. Personally the only thing I use and want when driving my XJ is the navigation system and radio buttons on the wheels
I will never have enough money for a Jag but in principle I agree. I dont like taking my eyes off the road and I like the feel of controlling the car. I dont even feel comfortable talking a lot while I drive. It sounds like this Jag is a lot of fun to drove. I'd love one if I could ever figure out how to make enough. For me this is better than a Tesla cause those have such a huge touchscreen its constantly distracting, the interior sucks, and the rear seats are uncomfortable.
dudes, take mine! Model 3LR RWD! I drove the iPace at the autoshow and this iPace is a fantastic vehicle. Interior design/materials is substantially better than the X (IMO) and it is so comfortable to drive. The slow charging (and lack of fast charging infrastructure in general), bad usability of the interior, and limited range (for the price) is what I didn't like, but man, it was a riot to drive and quieter than my 3. EVs are inconvenient IF you can't charge at home, but waking up with a full tank of 'gas' everyday is pure joy.
Thanks for being reasonable!
@@TheStraightPipes Take his car!!!!
I also have a 3 and I charge with all level 1 because stuff, but I haven't had a problem with getting the juice I need because I can charge at work, on level 1 20 amp circuit. So I could charge it full every day just by charging it all the time i'm not driving, say while asleep and working. I'm working on an L2 at home, and the CEO says he's going to get some more L2 chargers installed cause another guy bought a model 3 and he has a model X as well (his personal parking space has the wall charger so I use that when I can.)
@@sherizaahd A big deal that nobody's talking about. Installing chargers anywhere is possible. At home, at work, at the mall, on the street (lamp posts). As these come on more and more, EV range will become less of an issue. Range is only needed for road trips where you need >100 kW charging at minimum.
@@mkkm945 In the USA and Canada in the remote areas especially in the winter the range anxiety is going to live a while longer than people expect. However next generation of EVs hopefully will help overcome the range anxiety.
@3:25, I love how you can see the water through the vents.
That's not a frunk, that's a glovebox.
It's a British car so... Technically it's a froot
@@kevinn1158
Right? That was my first thought "do cops know to look for frunks on cars they arent familiar with?"
Lol!
Matthew Brockel Well technically it’s Indian
they need to switch the I and E around on the Paces...
Too late now. But yes that was idiotic by them in the first place.
U read my mind
"Add more RAM, I don't care!" What a great line and so true (whether that would work or not).
When it comes to how quickly computers are able to do multiple things at once, or how quickly it can switch between them, there can be a few different sources of the lag depending on when it lags and what you were trying to do, but in this case it does seem like a lack of RAM, or just a slow CPU/processor.
Definitely the car I was most looking forward to a Straight Pipe review!
I was ducking dying when I heard the acceleration it sounds like a T. rex screaming
I’d pick this every time over a Tesla.
Off topic from this video, i really love you guys. I found your channel a good while ago and ive watched almost every review. By far my favorite car review channel and i think it definitely has something to do with it being two people and especially you two. Good stuff guys
We own both. I like the X better, my wife likes the Ipace better. (She choose it)
Rich ass flex
Vaan Ravishankar stupid ass flex
I test drive the model X and it’s nice but then I drive the iPace 1st Edition and bought one. Corners better, Interior is better (with various panels buttons and knobs [that are also displays] rather than a single iPad) and exterior looks better. Ha!
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay was not ready at launch. It requires a software update (installed by the dealer as OTA was only just recently enabled which also requires a software update at the dealer) :)
Might as well leave it at the dealer while you are there.
It was ready at launch it just wasn’t installed on this vehicle. It also is why there is a lag. OTA doesn’t require a dealer update.
The IPACE in this spec, on stance mode looks siiiiiiick🔥
I've test driven both (Tesla Model 3 awd and Jaguar iPace) and I'd take the Jaguar iPace. Better (comfortable) ride, more luxury, quietness, Apple Carplay.
2:49 I want this as my notification sound.
2019 Jeep Gladiator next!
same
The tie fighter sound from Yuri really got me. Do it again
Aaaaahhhhhhhhh
I-Pace vs E-tron
This thing looks amazing! Rear three quarter view - awesome!!
The frunk is just fine for storing charging cables and thats about it
Which is still good enough I'd say. :)
However the frunk/froot is not waterproof so in the heavy rain I would keep cables in the trunk/boot as a safety measure.
in a model 3, it’s perfect for groceries. it’s sealed off and has hooks
@@punnequraq No one was talking about Tesla
7:08....lol said "Jaag" like a true fan of the old Top Gear.
If you like driving, the Jag.
If you like the look of what you are driving, the Jag
If you just want to get from A to B, the Ionic.
If you want to be driven, a cab.
If you just want to go A to B fast, a Tesla 3 (if you can put up with a laptop screwed to your dash), because it's cheaper and goes further than a Jag.
3:00 This sounds better than any combustion engines out there, even better than Lamborghini, especially for internal sound!!!! Very Futuristic!!!
But it's fake. I don't want a car making fake noises at me when I'm driving, ever. That's against my automotive religion.
I seen one today...I'm not gonna lie ,it looks dope
It's not even a look that has to grow on you. They are really sexy. Kinda what you'd expect from a Jaguar.
I spoke to an owner of one of these, they really like it too. And you're right, it gets a lot of attention. 😎
Love how Yuri went "Jaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggg"
Right. I am glad you brought that up. Charging a car is not practical if you don’t have a garage. Very good point.
Yuri's hair and facial hair is looking absolutely FIRE
Meh, Jacob's better.
The Honda insight hybrid has one of the smoothest and sharpest eco data I've ever used. And it's $20k USD. The Jaguar ipace is one of the best looking EVs for sure.
Justin M What does Honda have to do with Jaguars? I mean they’re pretty much completely different.
Tesla Model X is way better for luggage space and can seat up to 7 adults. But it’s not really the same class of car really. The Jag is quite a bit smaller. Range is disappointing for a 90kWh pack. Jag haven’t sold as many as they would of liked. I think it’s mainly down to price to be honest.
I will tweet Elon for you guys. 👍
US sales of this are almost non-existent. in the 'couple hundred of units' pr month
Mark Gaudie Founder of Northwest England EV Owners Not everyone wants to drive a large SUV/minivan the size of Model X. Actually the wheelbase of the I-Pace is longer than any Tesla even if the actual outside dimensions are shorter.
dan cashmer I don’t see myself coming and going that’s fosho.
@@dancashmer4726 Can't sell an EV in volume without a charging network. No one is paying 77k for an ev that has nowhere to charge. A model 3 with autopilot is half the price.
@@_PatrickO Not the same class of cars. I own an I Pace and my son owns a Model 3. Yes the model 3 is less but if you rode in both you would see why. Don't get me wrong. I like the Model 3. I though about a Model 3 Performance. But the build quality, fit, finish and interior are very different. It's like comparing a Honda Civic SI to a BMW M3. Sure they are both Coupes, but....
How you are able to talk about all of the details in an informed way while driving and goofing around is beyond me? I would derail my train of thought and trip over my mouth or chrash into something. Also how you figure out how to put all the little facts together by editing in a way that is interesting to watch shows real skill. Nice car, but too many screens for my taste. Maybe I am not ready for the future yet.
all jaguars and rovers seem to go that way. I have done tech for a living and I still can't figure out my friends land rover hybrid.
“Basically a Range Rover evoque” sorry what 😂
Bumba Clat yeah not even remotely related really
alexaescht Well I mean Land Rover does want Rang Rover and Jaguars. Sooooo.....
Great review guys! Loved it. Not sure what was going on with your Apple CarPlay though. It works perfectly on mine and I really like it. I have the choice of Apple maps, google maps or waze. Maybe your onebhad very old software? It was added after launch with a software update. Also, mine updated over the air a couple of weeks ago and the new software (S19A) is much less laggy. It’s not perfect. The swipe within the “my EV” page is still slow, but it’s more because of the animation now than because of actual lag. Still not perfect, but a lot better.
I have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (I use Apple) and mine works fine as well. No issues and I as well have the choice of the Jaguar maps or apple , google or Waze as well.
I just leased an E-Pace. Don't drive enough for the I. The Appleplay works and works great when I plug it into the port. It does not work via Bluetooth.
Yeah looks like they have old Pro. My XE got Carplay/Auto update at last service so it's just a software update thing...
My family bought one and we have had no problems its a great family car we love it our car is named benny we usto own a model x but change when we saw the price of a jaguar we really recommend this over the tesla
Seems the comments section here is swamped with Tesla fanboys. The Jaguar isn't trying to compete with any Tesla; that's why there's no direct model comparison. It's designed to compete with Audi et al.
Jaguar make luxury performance cars and that's exactly what this is - the I-Pace will out-handle a Tesla any day, which is why they're being raced. On actual racetracks. With professional drivers.
Dynamics is much more than how fast the car can go in a straight line.
Also, fit & finish on the Jag is leagues ahead of the Tesla; there's plenty of videos on RUclips describing poor panel fit, poor paint finish on the Tesla.
And please don't bang on about the I-Pace having button & switches - much more convenient and quicker to use than having to scroll-through menu options on an off-centre touchscreen. Not having a speedometer in front, and line-of sight on any vehicle is absurd.
Remember that the I-Pace has just won European Can Of The Year - and the Europeans know how to make a quality motor vehicle...
Definitely looks better than a Tesla!
It looks absolutely beautiful
I'm 6 minutes into the vid and I feel like they've covered everything
Competition has always been a great driver of innovation, economy, and affordability for the everyman within the auto industry. Good on Jaguar for jumping head first into the competitive Luxury SUV market with a big splash. Let’s hope that other manufacturers have a good answer to it whether it be electric, hybrid, gasoline, or diesel.
Everyone complains about JLR reliability, but are they actually still unreliable? My 2015 Evoque has behaved nicely without any issues.
My lease is up in a few months and I have to decide whether to let it go or not.
Not really. As good/bad as the Germans, but definitely better then Tesla’s when it comes to reliability
Built by Manga Steyr in Austria so build quality is high
I have driven both. The model x does have more cargo room and faster acceleration in the top trim, however it looks like a minivan, and handles horribly compared to the jag. Interior materials are much better in the jaguar as well as the looks in my opinion
If you guys come down to NJ, I'll let you drive my 75D
Great car review as always.
Yeah.. having a car with air suspension going up and down is the best. Cheers from a Range Rover Sport 2016
2016? must not drive it enough, 3 years old it should be falling apart by now
True_ Dublock why? I drive about 40k km a a year and at 130k km right now it still works fine.
The Model X also have air suspension
AriHD Man you must travel really far. 140km in four years.
One note: I've been binge watching your videos for the past couple of days since I've discovered this channel. I love every single one of them so keep it up!
But this title seems a little clickbaity, especially since one of the first things you need to admit is that you haven't driven a Tesla yet...
I wonder if you guys bashing your legs on the door sill has anything to with there being batteries under the floor. Maybe having to fit them into the new platform caused some packaging issues and raised the floor somewhat
Joachim Pearson It’s a completely new platform built for EV. Not based on Evoque or any existing JLR platform.
Interesting about the electric noise, glad you pointed that out. One day I was walking through a parking lot and "felt" a car near me. I looked and saw it and moved out of the way. I later checked and found out it was a Nissan Leaf. So I'm glad they are making sure there's some noise out of these cars, because they could be so quiet I'd never hear it before being run over.
Jag was better cus the Model X doesnt feel luxurious at all for the pricepoint
This jaguar is not a real ground up ev like the model x, it’s a refurbished gas car turned into electric.
Is the awfully laggy interface luxurious?
I don't think it's over priced! With all that power and luxury, I'd consider it
No SP fans or Turo in TO that can help you get your hands on a Tesla?
Please add insert of horsepower and torque conversion to kW and Nm
@Supreme Leader Spock 😂😂😂
Just imagine the review of Tesla Roadster 😍
Exactly, we can only imagine, it does not seem like it is coming out soon.
It’s such a good looking car! LJR are on fire!
Yout tie fighter sound screams totally got me 🤣🤣🤣
@TheStraightPipes, another great video guys. I have a pre-order for one of the first new Porsche Taycans. As soon as I get it I'll let you guys test drive it and do a video.
Haha. That PewDiePie reference. Loved it!
It’s cool, but I still want an E-type Zero
16:15 "But the rubber thing is making it hard to put out" no excuses for weak pull out game haha
I love you guys , thank you for the amazing videos
I watched this a while back . . . and this morning I watched the Aston Martin DBX video which made me want to re-watch this one. The DBX really does look like an Escort, which to me looks like a Macan . . .
But this I-Pace is the most attractive SUV/CUVish rig PERIOD. Wonderful! Glorious!
I went car shopping recently and could not think of one single reason to buy this Jaguar. You guys gave such a great review on the Mazda3 that I wound up buying one. Zoon-Zoom.
will you guys do the new XE?
The grill makes it prettier than the Tesla, and the body style and wheels.
That space ship sound is pretty amazing.
My favorite electric car so far.....an enlarged tamiya mini 4wd for sure.
I got a chance to check this out in person couple of months back and I have to say that I like this better than the Model X and if you are comparing lease payments, this is a no brainer choice.
Thank you so much for this review... this is my dream vehicle and Hope... Sri Lankan fan...🇱🇰🇱🇰❤️💞
6:42 damnit stewie, it's spelled w not hw.😂😂😂😂
You guys are awesome. I like the way you guys talk about each feature
OMG BEST EDIT @ 3:00!!
Great review as always!!!
Funny people usually try to compare I-Pace with Model X just because they are both marketed as “SUV”.
But if you consider overall size, cargo size and number of seats, I think I-pace’s real competitor is the Model S for now, which also has a hatchback, or the Model Y in a couple of years. (fully loaded Model Y is about the same price as fully loaded I-Pace)
Currently, Tesla is clearly ahead of other EV makers in battery / motor efficiency, range, charging infrastructure and acceleration.
While EVs from other luxury brands surely have the upper hand in build quality and interior fit and finish.
What I am curious to know is, which handles better and is more fun to drive?
Hope Jacob and Yuri can find that out for us :)
I'm gonna go with Jag. The suspension underpinnings look the same, which means Tesla probably tried to approximate the XJ module. Jag doesn't have to approximate it; they DESIGNED it.
If the f-Pace is any indication, the i-Pace will drive and handle SO much better than an S...or X...or 3...or Y...
@@billcichoke2534 Bullock, Model X, you are right. But S, 2 or Y? It shows that you have never driven one of those model, to compare handling from a crossover to 3 sedans. The Y is a model 3 raised a few centimeters and besides, nobody has drived a Y so, your statement is full of horse manure.
@@pascalabessolo5350 The Y, like Roadster 2.0 and the Semi, don't exist. But the Y will be based off the 3, and the P100D I test drove (um, yes, I HAVE driven one and CAN and WILL compare the Jag's handling to that pregnant battery-humping whale of a golf cart) was not as composed or controlled through the corners. This is mostly due to electronic steering and motor speed control the Jag doesn't have OR NEED.
Don't diss someone unless you actually have something akin to that experience level. From your butthurt attitude and poor spelling, I'd say you're a child who may or may not have snuck out with a driver's license recently. If not, never mind. If so...
Go home to your mum, grow up, ACTUALLY DRIVE DIFFERENT CARS, then come back and join the conversation.
Can someone kindly tell me the name of the song/instrumental that plays at the beginning of this video? It sounds SO awesome :)
The tune you are asking about sounds like the car fixed by one of the alien species called Boov named Oh in 2015 DreamWorks animation film called HOME. See Wikipedia.
I've owned a Model X for two years, and spent 30 minutes test driving the Jag. Comparing the two is just silly. As you noted in the review, the Jag isn't an SUV - it's a tall hatch back! A Model 3 is longer than an I-Pace for crying out loud! Not the same class of car. The Jag has a really nice interior, and drives well, but (trigger warning!) so does the Tesla, and once you get used to Tesla's Autopilot you just don't want to have to do without.
What does length have to do with anything? What is really strange is in some ways, such as proportions this is a more purpose-built EV than a Tesla--in that if you look at it from the side, the wheels are all the way to the corners--which is why length isn't a notable dimension here. Put another way, this is slightly shorter than a Porsche Macan, but has almost as much interior room as a Porsche Cayenne.
Someone in the office next to mine has one of these - the wheels look incredible in person.
The wheels on the Jag they test drove are the most expensive ones, I think they cost around 10 grand. I completely agree with you tho!
The outside spaceship sound is so good. In contrast the Chevy volt sounds like it has a bad fuel pump so it’s best to pull the fuse on that thing for silence.
Surely someone would lend them a Model S E or X, or they can rent one for a day?
Model 3? Is that what you mean?
Very poor numbers on efficiency but looks good and comfortable.
I have driven the Model S and have sat in the i-Pace at a car show. Am glad there are more EVs on the market now, but personally would take a Tesla because...
#1: The Supercharger network is amazing. Good denisty, reliable, fast, not overpriced.
#2: The infotainment is very good, uses Google Maps, Spotify for music in Europe.
#3: Autopilot is amongst the best driver assist systems on the market and getting better.
#4: Regular software updates. Your car just keeps getting better and bugs get fixed OTA.
Darcer's Tech FWIW, the I-Pace along with other new JLR vehicles has SOTA updates.
@@bruintoo True, but the scale of those updates we pretty much know will be tiny compared to Tesla.
great car IPace is da bomb , must be very quiet at speed and also a nice environment for a great stereo, especially for the price. THANKS 😊 😁😊
It has Andriod Auto and Apple Carplay. You have to plug in under the center armrest. They probably connected on the usb sockets under the center display. Thoses don't support AA or CP.
Yuri, it is NOT boring. Show us your charging shopping mall lunch too!
I'm proud of you guys for telling the truth about lag. It's not acceptable that this expensive Jag has so much Lag.
When I tried it.. I literally got anxious. This much of lag is not acceptable even for 20k vehicle.
Then use your phone when you're stopped and drive the car when you're not. Infotaincontrol systems are a blot on vehicle reliability and need to either be optional or not included. A chip fart on a phone is one thing...if it means you can't fully use your car, then it's not welcome.
Arnis, BEV should be instantaneous
So glad you guys mentioned the part about people whining about EVs not saving money. It's more about less emissions and using less fossil fuels. Gasoline will only deplete, never refill its stock.
A fully Electric F-Type SVR.... That is my Dream car that I would buy On release....
i like your guys covering the electronic just like tech reviewer covers the OS of the phone.
Just Love Straight pipes.
That getting in and out looked like a doug thing, over exaggerated. And I subbed you over him. ....... and am thankful
Was the easy access option toggled on(auto lowering)? I'm 6'5" and even I can't get in properly if it's not on, and with it on both me and my partner that's under 5'2" we have no problem at all.
Also the usable battery size is only 84.7 kWh (still does not get Tesla's usage though)
It looks like Jaguar US does not update the software on its review cars.. it's been suggested that this might be because all the review cars are from the pre-production batch, but I suspect whoever is responsible to get these to reviewers doesn't know about software updates.. anyway, over-the-air updates are now live at least in Europe, but Jaguar just like Audi appear to be super-careful about rolling out updates.. over a matter of months, not all cars simultaneously, etc.
My favorite reasons for an Electric car are 1. More convenient charging. (At home) 2. No fossil fuels. 3. TORQUE!
I drove this a few times months ago at the Jaguar Experience event. I've also test driven the S and X.
This beats the Tesla hands down. The seats are more comfortable everywhere in the car. It actually feels like it's worth the price tag compared to the S/X which feel like plasticy Rubbermaid children toys. It's like Jaguar hired a designer, where Tesla hired an engineer to design their interior.
I've not owned either brand, but definitely woke up to the possibility of an electric car after driving the I-Pace.
its more that Tesla has different priorities, hey push performance (range, HP, and acceleration) farther then other electrics. the are also supplemented with auto pilot and supper charging network but cut cost on the interiors, so sitting in one isn't the whole experience.
@@miguellopez3392 Not sure where you think you found their priority list. Let's say you're right, that's fine. We're still talking about the car being a car though. So in turn, the Tesla(s) still loses.
You still can't rationalize the interior design and comfort with that argument.
@@xposhr they mention beating gas cars on performance as one of their goals, a car is not about it interiors, many people prefer Tesla over other cars because they get better range then other electrics and are funner to drive because of their speed... and what is the point of a car? so if you ask someone if they prefer a electric car that can charge faster, goes farther, go faster, and can drive its self over one that has a better interior which one do you think will win? obviously Tesla since they have the best selling luxury car in the US and Europe and thats over gas cars too.
I have cream interior model s and it is very classy and great build. I don’t like the early black interior it did look Rubbermaid.
Love the intro
I was able to sit down with a salesman at JLR Monterey and I was so impressed! It has a laptimer... probably 100% unnecessary, but I really like it. It's absolutely true also that it's far smaller in person than it looks in pictures or videos. WAY smaller. I'm noticeably taller than it and I'm barely 5'6" so SUV? No, not really, but still awesome!
Level 1 superslow charging from 110V outlet can actually work if you only drive 50 miles or less per day and plug in every night. That's what I do, and I have a full charge every morning.
It is probably better for the battery to charge slowly.
take so long to charge on level 2, while my BMWi3 only takes 3 hrs for 80 miles
Can't compare apple and oranges :)
Your best car review yet!
The infotainment lag/issues was one of the main reasons I decided against the RR Velar. Horrible!
