Wow. Crazy that they were going to leave you hanging on that yellow backlight thing when they knew it wasn’t user/installer error or an out of warranty failure. It sounds like they were left taking a hit and were trying to stiff you to make up for it but two wrongs don’t make a right.
Loved this handheld only played it at home, as i played it with mains adapter, plus i had a Master converter, so i could play my Master System games, i used my GameBoy for on the go,but the SEGA was my favorite, Lemmings on the Game Gear was Amazing, also Astro warriors, and Sonic. I wish i did this back in the day, the battery's would have lasted longer. Great Video mate excellent :o)
Wellcome back!!! A month from your last video has felt a long time, glad your ok and still making videos! Will you be getting a Commodore 64 mini? Would be interested to see / know what you think of it and what magic you would do on it. Thanks!
Now you just need a hi-resolution, low latency screen and a LiOn USB rechargable battery solution and you'll have one of the best Game Gears out there. ;)
I tried this mod and killed the screen... Ironically I managed to install a mcwill lcd with no issues although I'm a bit baffled about mcwill revisions... Does anybody know a way to identify each revision? Thank you for this great video!!!
Wouldn't it have been better to just replace the whole screen with a modern IPS screen which would have better colour matching, viewing angle and a lot less latency?
With NiMH batteries, battery life is a non-issue. For me, if I'm gonna significantly mod the internals, it's going to be to do an OLED screen upgrade. Gonna hold off until someone figures that out. Otherwise, there's always the LCD upgrade: aliexpress.com/item/4000250454690.html
I guess I’m not ordering from handheld legend because of their crap customer service practices. They should of sent you a free replacement. That’s shady.
Great MOD. I got a RetroKAI backlight installed on both my Game Gears! Never looked back! Great battery life!
I'm glad they made things right with you. Your video led me to buy a backlight and a lens from them. Going to attempt this mod myself!
Good luck!
Great job. The Game Gear was a good handheld system. Awesome video.
Thanks.
Really fun video, Thanks for sharing this modding video :)
Thanks buddy!
Cool mod! Looks like Handheld Legends customer service sucks!

Exactly. Very disappointing
It was 8 months.
Hi it still can adj. the backlight level?
Nice work, use that yellow backlight for a GB
Good idea
... how much longer does it last with the LED backlight?
raykupal batteries last 6-9 hours with a modern backlight.
to be honest the black lens was in really good shape and looked 100 times better than the white one, sad
Must've been frustrating to get the faulty backlight at first. But all is well that ends well
Props for the Pebble!
Are you a Pebbler too?
Yes, I have my Kickstarter original and a color.
Nice. Pebble 2SE here.
Интересно, насколько дольше работает консоль с этим модом.

Thanks. I have the master system converter too. It makes the entire setup really bulky, but it works.
How do people keep their game gear in that good condition
Recoton game gear case.

Yes, still here!!

Sounds expensive. :-)
New 50 Euro challenge? Can you max this Game Gear for less than 50?
Nice one!
Both research a maxed out solution for
awesome video!
Thank you!!
Its almost the same process with the atari linx right?
I'll probably do a video on that as well soon.
Nice Pebble watch
Keen eye!
any suggestions if after the replacement i cant get the backlight to power up?

Nice mod but I have done the retrosix screen mod as well as more
Can you recommend site for quality Game Gear caps? Thank you!
The console5.com kit looks alright.
I would probably just use a new LCD screen with a backlight over this mod personally. Destroying an original working screen feels bad.
cool video, nice mod !
Thanks.
Nice job by you but I think the quality of the screen could be better
The original screen is rather horrible. An upgrade screen is expensive though.
Six batteries? Woah!
I won't watch the entire video, as I'm not particularly interested in the Game Gear.
Yeah, that is because of the fluorescent tube.
I am not happy with how the company you bought the light from treated you....I would go somewhere else just to not give them any money...
I feel the same way
"Commitment Excellence." My ass! 😡
Nice watch
Thank you.Pebble 2 SE. :)
Bende Gij Nederlands ?
Misschien 😎
@@RetroGameCouch haha 😂

Of course. But for those with a tighter budget, I want to provide an alternative.
There's a difference between an LED panel for 10 bucks or an IPS screen for 80 bucks sure, but hey... Most everyone has 10 bucks to spare but not 80.
Exactly!

Yes eerste:D
Jij bent snel!
Looks awful to be honest. Just get an LCD replacement.
Clickbait thumbnail.
Great video!
