Gotta appreciate the love for the game gear. I recapped one recently with the retrosix pack and worked perfectly, hate to see retro tech going to waste.

Very nice!! I change one but use lot of Flux and solder iron. The tricky job is solder again alined.

Hi, could you perhaps share the LCD signals on a good working Game Gear or how to tell if the LCD is bad? Thanks.
After buying a broken Game Gear that was an "attempt to fix" by someone, I found out it was heavily corroded and a few mistakes were made in the rework also. I managed to fix it to a point where the game is loading, it has sounds, the lamp is lit and the contrast works. However the LCD which has all signals present, only shows a few lines but no other activity.
For example, when loading the Collums game, I can see that the frame of the game(where the blocks would go) is set on the LCD but nothing else. When it switched to another screen, it updated to nothing.
At this point, I'm not sure if the LCD is bad or there is still a PCB problem. Since I don't have another one, I can't tell yet. I will attempt to check the PCB again though.

Update: I found a fix. The problem came from R42 and C45 in my case. I remade the connections and it's working fine now. The PCB has a lot of straps now but no matter 😅👍🏻

hello. something about flickering GG original screen? i have some boards with this issue after recap (literally the same problem). both differential signals pairs and VM are normal,
no unwanted oscillations (frequency and amplitude) in them. I tested it with the oscilloscope on the 5 contacts on the side of the screen to make sure it wasn't a problem with the flat. the flickering is just there and i can´t figure out what could be going on .
Have you ever had a problem like this?

Which is the suggested temperature for hot air? Thanks

Depends in each situation, specifically for the GG ribbon removal I would run at 480C and 80% air would be fine
