    I'm probably in the minority, but the SEGA 8-Bit systems had my favorite sound chips of all time.
    I LOVE the 'pings', 'hums' and 'whistles' it creates.

      It's funny really, the switch has the same amount of battery life as the game gear but nobody seems to talk about that much. I love my switch, and I'd argue its portable in the same way the game gear was, in that as long as where you're travelling to has a wall socket then you can play it as much as you want. There's nothing wrong with that. You can't really carry a big console with you on holiday, and also you'd need a TV to be there. The game gear was a portable master system and the switch is a portable Wii U and they're both great. But the jokes about the game gear battery life never end even decades later.

    • @duffman18
      @duffman18 3 года назад

      @@soulripper31 no you didn't. Everyone with a game gear had the wall adapter, and/or rechargeable batteries, so in that sense it's not different from a smartphone or a switch (and also, everyone with a gameboy had these things too, because they ate through batteries really fast too, not as much as the game gear, but almost; going back and trying to use a gameboy these days, it's really quite shocking how short a time they last, I don't remember it being this bad when I was a kid, but then my parents were paying for the batteries back then, not me). Anyway smartphones, switch, game gear, game boy, they're all portable systems. Because it's a different thing to, let's say, trying to carry a gaming PC with you on the train with you to see your parents. I can carry my switch with me everywhere and use it anywhere, just like with a game gear or smartphone. It's great

    Great topic, list, and video. First, I will say that I think Road Rash looks quite impressive for the 8-bit hardware. And Rister looks extremely impressive, and it plays great. The Game Gear extended the lifespan of the Master System allowing us to see what the hardware could do when pushed further. And we see the results of that in Ristar and Gunstar Heroes. I finally got around to trying the Shinobi games a few years ago. I consider them both to be the top two games on the platform. I think I preferred part two when I played, but they were definitely close in quality and I can easily see it going either way.
    I remember playing a good bit of various Sonic games, which I mostly liked. Dragon Crystal was weird but fun, though there's a huge difficulty spike toward the end and it has some other quirks that make it hard to recommend. I remember liking Ax Battler and Super Monaco GP as well. I even really liked the first Mortal Kombat game on it at the time. I recall also playing Fatal Fury on the system. It wasn't as easy to tell which games on the system were the best, so I was very experimental with it and my library reflected that.

    Oddly the only person I knew to have a Game Gear in the early-mid 90s was my grandfather's 2nd wife's son in law, so I didn't get to play it very much then, he was also extremely protective of it, had the big magnifying glass thing and always had it on the little metal kickstand on his coffee table haha. But one of the games he had for it was GG Aleste 2, and I remember being SO blown away by that game, and even Sonic 2, but especially the prior. As a young Gameboy owner that shit just felt like it was in a completely different league, no comparison, and made me feel like the GB must have been a rip off or scam or something lol. Never ended up with one before I got a Nomad in 97 until I inherited one from a friend in 2000 or so. I really enjoyed "Sonic Triple Trouble" and "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" on my Game Gear. Sonic was the only reason I played Sega at that time that wasn't about sports games.

    Super glad you made a top 10 Game Gear video, I've wanted to hear your thoughts on that subject for a while! Watching this made my Saturday! :)
    My favourites, now that I can finally have a Game Gear of my own, have been Sonic 1, Ristar, RoboCop vs The Terminator, Coca-Cola Kid, and Pac-Attack :)

    Fatal Fury Special

    Lots of my favourite GG games in this list! One game I was always very fond of was Ninja Gaiden, sure it’s too short but the gameplay is razor sharp. This list also reminds me I need to get my white Game Gear recapped as the screen is totally gone now.

    I have a lot of love for the Game Gear, but I admit, I mostly played Sonic on it and not much else as a wee one, so much of the system's library is new to me.

    Another good video. I don’t actually collect a lot, my money usually goes to new stuff, but lately I’ve been picking up old portables and Game Gear is on my wish list. I had one and even had that master system converter, but I don’t remember many games specifically. I loved Sega’s home consoles but nothing beat the Gameboy for me back then. Battery life was more important than color to me. And the Gameboy library is really good too.

    • @kellykoesling9309
      @kellykoesling9309 4 года назад +3

      Biscuits and gravy is bonafide American soul food. Knowing a biscuit in England is what we would include under the term "cookie" I can see why someone from there would have that reaction. A biscuit here is like an unsweetened scone. Either way I love a heaping plate of biscuits and gravy myself.

      Seriously, gravy and those big flaky grand biscuits and some scrambled eggs on the side. The gravy and eggs mix well. I don’t know about elsewhere, but in the south we’ll eat breakfast any time of the day.

      Someone should open a southern-US-style biscuits and gravy restaurant chain in the UK. They'd clean up once the Brits realize what they're missing (and that their preconceptions of both "Biscuits" and "Gravy" are wildly inaccurate).

Always feel as though i missed out as a kid.

    I had the game gear which I bought new in a store circa 1992. Praise Jesus. Great video. I am a new subscriber and I have learned so much from your videos. My "Sega confession": I've never been a big fan of any of the Genesis Road Rash games. My first Road Rash experience was on the 3DO, and none of the earlier (or heck, LATER) games compared. I don't think I could play the GG version...but this is a solid list. Can't believe you made a top 10 Game Gear games without a single Sonic game! I'd definitely have put Tails' Adventure on there, at least.

    I've never played a GameGear, and I am 32. I think it's insane that an early 90s handheld even had color, but I can't say most of the games look all that appealing. Seems to have more charm than substance in most cases.

      Technically yes, goes without saying, but as a PORTABLE, that is, something you can actually enjoy on the go, the game boys battery life clearly gave it a huge advantage. The GG definitely had a place though, despite essentially being just a portable master system, thanks to its unique library

    Anyone here in Lucky dime caper camped baddies to getting the discs instead of the hammer? Besides that the game gear was first console, I had many good memories with it, the game I want to mention here are Crystal Warriors as I come back to here mostly once a year and putt & putter, a game that I not planned to acquire back then but it was a prize for a strange contest involving a Sonic badge that would activate during certain TV programs, great replay value though
