Thank you so so much for the shout out. I had an absolute blast trying to design that shell. I’m very very happy with it. Possibly my best shell design to date 👍👍
Sadly this custom shell is not what RetroSix sells on their website, they sell UV printed ones with no precision on the print, which means it can have something like 1 or even 2 milimeters bad offset from what you expect, it also can't print shades on transparent because the UV print needs to print a white primmer layer 1st, so if your shell is not white there's no shade for you, and that has limited printing area only on the front of the shell so nothing on the sides and nothing on the back of the shell.
This was insanely helpful! Every time we attempt a new mod or repair we always come to your page first to see if you have a video on it. Everything is explained so well!! Thank you
This is going to save a huge amount of time doing these mods, it takes a long time to mod the GG with an LCD screen and this is a game changer. Definatly going to pick this up for one of the motherboards in the spares bin. Great build chap and that case is superb!
Wow... That shell is soooo cool! Really happy to see more options for GG! I think that thing should be part of your backdrop in your videos. It's great. Take care Tito!
Fantastic video. My only experience with the Game Gear was a girl in my neighborhood who got one in 1999 when Majesco re-released it. I was blown away with the backlit screen and power in a time when I had a Gameboy Color and a worm light. I was less impressed when I found out her parents refused to give her batteries so she had to use an AC adapter and plug into the wall!
Haha, that’s was the true struggle of the game gear. I remember when I was younger I spent more time playing it plugged in than with batteries too. I also had a recharge battery pack which was kinda cool! Cheers!
Wow, I have 2 gamegears I got in a bundle a few years back. Might be time to open them and see what models they are. Thank you for the high quality video that outlines every step!
Fantastic video and super excited to see more competition for Game Gear modding. Seems like each company releasing an LCD kit is improving on the last. This leads to something I'm surprised you didn't mention in the video, and that's costs. McWill's will go over $100 (if you get them Stateside and get a genuine McWill, not a Chinese clone) and the RetroKai Magic Screen also comes out to $100 with better features than the McWill. And now it seems like this kit will be closer to the $65-$75 range WITH significant install and feature improvements on the other kits.

Start with cheap practice kits. I went with a mini-Piano 🎹 kit off Amazon that has lots of soldering and fun to use after your done. It's surprisingly easy after awhile but you'll need quite a few tools to be ready for a big modification. When I was a very young skunk, I used to think the Game Gear had a tiny CRT in it because it had a similar glow. Turns out, I was only very slightly right. According to wikipedia, the screen is "backlit for low light using a small cold cathode fluorescent lamp tube".
Hey Tito, amazing build and video as usual! I’m digging that custom shell, looks high quality and the colour is outstanding, nice touch! Regarding the screen, it does seem to be easier to install than the RetroKai which is a lot to say. Something I noticed with the screen modes, the scan lines seem horizontal rather than vertical present on the McWill and RetroKai modes, I’d like to see them side by side if possible and what is your opinion. I’m also curious about the sound card, how better is the sound comparing to your RetroKai build/stock i.e.? I look forward to that video then hehe. Cheers!

FWIW, if you wanta rechargeable battery solution, they now have the 'CleanJuice USB C Battery Pack' that provides 22.2Wh, which they say can give you more than 13 hours of gaming.
I've never done anything like this before but I really wanna dive in and start learning. Not sure if the Game gear is where to start though it's very tempting.
Look awesome 🤘. After I watch the GBC Mod with a biggest screen, I think that the Game Gear with a biggest screen can be a awesome add, + that can fix the "issue" with screen that don't interger the screen well. Also... We so close to have the USB C Used as a video out, hope that the VGA mod can be adapted to used the USB C .
We need either a screen with 2x the original resolution or a screen that has an Integer mode with the option to turn off the Game Gear mask, showing an extended field of view. There is a Game Gear emulator for GBA that has this feature, making the game run in integer scale, but with the GBA native resolution and it's magnificent.
This Video is awesome as always man keep it up! Have you ever modded a n64 before? I'm a huge fan of the console because i mainly grew up with it, and i was wondering if you've done some in the past or planning to mod one?
First of all hello Tito. A new video and a very interesting one as Game Gear is my favourite handheld console. 1) I contacted Retrosix and they told me that the cleanscreen is compatible with all game gear models! In your video you are telling that is only compatible with 1 asic model and in the future will support 2 asic model too. Now i am confused! What is the truth? By the way i own 3 Game Gear consoles. 2 modded with McWill and the third one with the official screen as it is a version 5! So is it compatible with cleanscreen? 2) The procedure of installing that new screen is not the easiest thing but not also the hardest one. For the noobs with no soldering skills is gonna be a difficult one. I am noob too but until now with your videos i've managed to mod a lot of my consoles with 100% Success :-) 3) I love the scanlines effect that are horizontal and not vertical like on McWill screens. 4) Also i like that you can edit the brightness with the wheel as you can't do such a thing on McWill screens. 5) What is the difference by instaling that new sound board? Less power and more clear sound? Please enlight me. 6) I love those shells BUT i hate that dark spots like holes. I have seen many designs of that producer and is doing an excellent work. I wonder if he can make those spots disappear. Overall is the best mod you have done so far and is really beautiful. For the video i have no words. The same as usual......PROFFESIONAL! Have a nice day Tito and thanks for sharing! Love and peace from Greece!
Hello there! Yes, this kit is only compatible with the single asic, retro six will release a new flex cable that will work with the dual asic in the future. The new soundboard is good if you have a damaged one. Not sure if any improvements at the moment. I will be making a video soon about it! Stay tuned! So glad you are enjoying the videos my friend! I hope you have a wonderful day also! Cheers buddy!
Where can I see more close up footage of this mod in action? There was hardly any footage of the actual screen shown in this video and was all from far away. Really would have been nice if you had shown some actual up close gameplay footage of this screen.

I am noob too but until now with your videos i've managed to mod a lot of my consoles with 100% Success :-)
3) I love the scanlines effect that are horizontal and not vertical like on McWill screens.
Most beautiful game gear build ever
Thank you Kevin🙏! Cheers buddy!
Where can I see more close up footage of this mod in action? There was hardly any footage of the actual screen shown in this video and was all from far away. Really would have been nice if you had shown some actual up close gameplay footage of this screen.
Hey terrific video! Have you tried the Bennvenn kit and if yes could you compare 1/ easiness of install 2/ graphic rendering quality? Thanks !
I was looking at the website myself just this morning for when I get my game gear I got a I met it's pretty impressive kits that the offer
Another amazing video!
Thank you Alex🙏
Dang.. If this is the easiest one I really don't want to know what the hardest one looks like!
very nice build!!! wonder if it costs the same as a ps5 after all the mods... the only original part left is the mobo.... oh and the sticker at the back.
Thank you! Haha, not as much as a ps5. Probably just shy of 200 including the game gear!
@@MachoNachoProductions Again, Awesome awesome build! I did one with the Funny Playing board and it was OK..... and cheap... hopefully when this one's in production it won't cost too much. I have 1 more game gear waiting for the next payday for me to order the LCD.😁 i may hold off if this is comparable to funny one price-wise.
Need to mod one of my game gears. good job m8. SEGA TILL I DIE
Can't take my eyes off this beauty.
Totally agree!
Obligatory comment to boost engagement and make youtube continue to promote some of the highest quality retro content on youtube
Thank you🙏! You rock!
Hey did you review the Retrokai soundboard in another video? Interested to hear any feedback on it before purchasing.
I’ll be doing a review in a future video. Stay tuned!
13:38 my OCD kickin' in with the white dot on the screen....
When soldering I would recommend using flux
I really wish someone would update the screen side. A true equivalent pixel scaling and not have to deal with the shimmer issue.
I’m sure we’ll be getting one soon enough! Cheers!
