There have been a few comments asking if I would share my settings. Growing the VR simracing community is one of my key goals. All my settings for iRacing/Nvidia CP/OpenXR Toolkit can be found on the Immersive Racing discord server - link is in the description. See you out on track!
Glad you liked it! The Quest 3 is a great headset and your system should "comfortably" handle the load. There will always be some optimising needed but there are many guides available and my own settings are on my discord server free to use (link in the description). As for motion sickness. It can be overcome if done properly. Start with short sessions (20min in and 40min out), few days you should feel better as your brain gets used to it. Simracing is thankfully the easiest to overcome as the seated position irl matches the seated position in the headset making it easier for the brain to accept. Although going in reverse and slamming on the brakes still feels weird to me :)
Haha...same. Even after 4 years in VR...still gets me :) Although flying backwards in space doesnt have the same effect. Funny how the brain knows the difference.
@@TheVRRacerhey! I tried clicking on that discord link in your video description and it doesn’t work. Says the link has expired. Do you still have a channel? Im curious about your settings.
Hey, how do you add 3rd-view video (left bottom corner), are you purchasing 2nd account in iRacing to get 2nd co-host in the session, or just render from replay?
The external TV shots are recorded from the replay. A 2nd acc would allow you do to the same but in real time. Could be interesting for Live stream.,,but you'd need a 2nd PC :)
First off very cool video and great race. I also have the g2 and use openxr, but I am having an issue getting my recorded videos to look as stable as this. What are you doing to stabilize the vr capture?
Glad you like the vid :) As for the stabilized video...a few people have asked and truth is I dont use any stabilization software. I thought I would have to seeing other VR videos but it seems I just have a very still head. It's a straight capture from the VR mirror. Maybe it's cause I got thousands of hours in VR and I'm not so distracted by the immersion and awesomeness of it. I dont know. Sorry I cant help you with a software fix.
@@TheVRRacer No worries! That is good to know nonetheless. I wonder if it could be related to the higher FFB of my base. I see you are using an R5 and I am using an R9, so maybe that is making the difference in shakiness.
This could definitely be a factor. You can tell it not stabilized as you can see the camera shake from my heart beat before a race starts. I get tense sometimes and the camera picks it up every time :)
Sorry for slow response. I love my Reverb G2 but I wouldnt recommend it now. HP are getting out of the VR game and Microsoft is no longer supporting WMR. I use Win 10 instead of 11 so it doesnt affect me. I would recommend the Quest 3 with airlink cable. Excellent price for up to date features, Pancake lenses and the ability to run without a PC for those few party nights with friends :) Im looking at either that or the Big Screen Beyond...only due to the comfort it will provide for endurance racing...but the Q3 is my first choice. Hopefully later this year :) Edit: Typos...so many typos. I need a new keyboard :)
I dont personally do it...But using Racelabs works as overlay in Steam VR. If you use OpenXR like me...Kneeboard app will let you pin the Racelabs overlay.
Is this YT vid capture what you’re seeing in VR? It looks like a single screen monitor. I would expect there to be per peripheral vision like 180 degrees or more, with no penalty of driving input. Ex., I run a single screen, FOV close to the wheel, and the further back that I sit (when I adjust the FOV) it feels like I’m racing in a tunnel. My targets for entry, apex and exit all appear much further away, which is a more difficult target to hit and slows down lap times. It also affects steering lock so your visual is actually tied to mechanical performance as well. I thought all of this would go away with the use of VR? Am I wrong? Thx for the upload.
Thanks for commenting! I hope I'm understanding your question. What you're seeing here is the VR mirror of just my left eye displayed on the desktop and then captured. There is a bit of fisheye effect to the mirror. You can tell that each video im slightly left of the steering wheel centre. The view in the headset is stereoscopic...so no fisheye and a wider FOV than you see here.
Just making sure Im giving the right info on VR....the reason this happens on a single monitor (as what you drive)...is due to the fact that you are viewing the scene from a single point of view(perspective). The wider you make the FOV the more tunnelling you get due to your distance being the same at all time (POV). In VR...its 2 separate images...from 2 separate perspectives and are overlapping about 70%(not side by side...this is the key part)...our eyes see each image separately and our brains combine the 2 images for a wide FOV...thats stereoscopic and 3D in nature. I hope this poorly explained VR theory helps :) TLDR: VR equals wide FOV with no fisheye tunnelling
Hey David. I was going through my comments and happen to re-read yours and I finally understand what you were asking that I missed the first 2 times :) The image you see here is slightly warped due to the displays in the headset being square (2160X2160). The Left eye image is being stretched to a 16:9 ratio giving it the slight warping you see here. It seems to be more noticeable in the Ferrari than say the Pcup or MX5's. Could be the deep seating position, I don't know. But there is no warping of the image in the headset. Sorry it I didnt read it properly the first or 2nd time :)
@@TheVRRacer There are some RUclips videos in VR format. I'd love to get a VR holder for my phone and just follow someone's racing in VR. I might get a full VR set in the future, that would be even better of course to consume sim racing content. I might only buy that when I get into racing myself, to have an alternative to the ultrawide, perhaps especially for immersion driving of special cars and tracks. VR is said to be slower due to less consistency on the part of the driver and I doubt I can compromise even my worst level for immersion :)
@SilverHolland Thanks for commenting. Ive looked into making 360 videos that can be watched in VR with splitscreen...interesting concept but still figuring out how I would do that :) As for VR being less consistent...I'd have to respectfully disagree. Atleast in my personal experience. VR has made me more consistent and also more consistently avoiding wrecks. Here is a link to an image of a practice session I did looking at tyrewear over a stint. All laps are within 2 tenths of each other baring one lap I tried a different BBalance..didnt like it and went back. drive.google.com/file/d/1i6_Q8HZeHAbxXWI7XyE1rAQq6Kw0nZ2M/view?usp=sharing
Great driving man. Would you be willing to share your iRacing settings? I struggle to retain 60 fps with a Quest 2. I know things would not be exactly the same, but I'm just looking for a good spot to start settings wise. I have the following: CPU: AMD 5800X GPU: AMD 5700 XT RAM: 32 GBs MB: NZXT N7 B550 HDD: 2TB Samsung 970
Ok...Discord server has been setup (its pretty rough-dont judge lol). Link is on the channel page! Ive posted some images of my iRacing and Nvidia settings. I hope they help.
My world scale is set to 120%. And I centre my headset quite a bit behind the default location...thus brining me closer when seated normal again. Hope this helps :)

Good race!!! Thanks for sharing with us. subbed!
Thanks Walt! Glad you enjoyed it. Looking forward to sharing a lot more in 2024!
Can't wait to get my headset. Great video, great driving!
Thanks buddy! VR is amazing...especially in sim racing. Really gets the heart pumping :)
Hey there! If you enjoy the Porsche Cup, come join the Porsche Cup Challenge league :). We follow the official public schedule, it's lots of fun
I love the Porsche Cup! I will look into that. Thanks for watching
Great drive dude
Thanks buddy! Glad you enjoyed it. This is such a rewarding combo to drive.
Hell of run my guy! ❤
Thanks man! This is one of those races that brings you back for more. Really fun combo.
Cool vid ! Do upload more :)
