100% agree its been a total nightmare!! I normally race F1 (Formula A Merc W13), thought Id give the Super Forumla a go. WOW what a mistake.. Even in the top split its carnage. The biggest issue is people not knowing where to brake on the first lap on the first corner, to excited and far too fast.. Ahhh so frustrating.
Ah thank you so much for subbing mate! And there are good races out there to be had…but perhaps not too many in Super Formula just now as the new car excitement is strong!! Hopefully see you on track one day buddy!
LOL. I won't go near i-racing public on-line until I've finished my mission. What's my mission? Use the AI as a training tool and work up to real life lap times based on whatever series. The AI don't race like people do, but just having them as a tool to practice running in traffic at lap times you can adjust is invaluable and the best thing i-racing does.
I've had my worst couple of weeks with others bad driving since starting iRacing 3 years ago. Problem is we all expect everybody to act like professional racing drivers, but at the end of the day it's just a game for all ages....and talent...!! Hope things improve and well done in this race Ben.
also little tips with the car around here don't turn the wheel more you get way less grip than if you just turn it slightly and carry more speed and the car will turn for you
It’s people not practicing enough and/or not practicing properly. It also doesn’t help with most prominent YT simmers saying things like “I’m doing this race but I’ve had barely any practice so it’ll be fun seeing how I’ll do”. It instills a culture that it isn’t “cool” to practice and gives a false impression. There’s no way some of the guys that say they’ve “had no practice” actually haven’t practiced at all. The thing a lot of drivers don’t realise is that it takes literally hundreds if not thousands of laps to practice sufficiently in a car. If you’re spinning in races or even regularly in practice, you’re not getting better. You need to slow down and accept, you aren’t there yet; but you will be! Get practicing properly and enjoy being good!
I remember the inaugural season of Kamel GT (which I won on points and spend the rest of my time pounding around in the Merc GT3). There was a glitch on Week 1 and it caused the GTO's to be gridded in front of the GTP's making T1-T3 at Daytona interesting. That and the near 11sec delta's at Lime Rock when it was overcast on top of being dumped into the broadcast split. That chaos was fun, THIS.....this race is literally just not trusting anyone :/
I wonder if all the F4 maniacs decided to upgrade and go Super Formula? Might explain the carnage 🤣 well done for persevering though, and finding a decent race in the end. It was indeed a cracker, incredibly close to go to the wire with 5-6 cars all within a second or two of each other. Think this series would be a bit too intense (and rage-inducing) for me to cope with!
I find in most formula cars people are more concerned with going fast and not findi g consistency, and actually being able to finish the race. The formula cars are my favorite to drive, so i dont drive gt's very often.
I love this car but I start in the pits every time. I race bottom splits and it's absolute chaos at the start. It's annoying that people use live racing as practice. 🤦
Hey buddy - it’s a mix of RaceLab Apps and my own post edit transitions. You can get RaceLab Apps for free or a paid for version if you search on Google. 👍
Now I’m nervous for next week lol. I bought the car, but I don’t own the first two tracks. Next week will be my first week able to race it online and I’m just hoping I don’t end up in pile up after pile up. Either way it’s potential content lol, but I’m going to do my best to avoid the carnage 😂 Great video!
I'm looking to move to F4. I've done one test session so far, and I'm nowhere near ready for taking it to a competitive session. Knowing your ability is key to good clean racing.
The F4 car is amazing to drive, it’s probably one of the best on iracing that I’ve seen in my 11 years on here. I race the F4 challenge and the F4 Americas tour right now. The trick is to almost very slightly slide the car and being smooth, a lot of turns that you’d take in 2nd in most cars you can almost take in 3rd. A good example is turn turn 3 or 4 at road america (at the bottom of the hill) most cars take it at 2nd gear but I’ve hit it half throttle in 3rd many times You’ll love it
Love that car Mike! Although again driving standards can be a bit like the Wild West. Will be looking out for some videos when you get into some races!
Great race Ben! Some car/track combinations are bound to be carnage, especially as this car is hyped at the moment. Will probably get better as the season goes on and people either learn or abandon 😂
Random fact, Paul chaloner used to be one of the main esport presenters, did presenting for StarCraft and dota finals etc. went by the name “Redeye”. He’s on Wikipedia if you wanna read up on him. Just thought I would share that randomness with you haha.
I'm pretty keen to get into these cars. Have the license for it but never raced open wheel. So I did the logical thing and started in slower open wheelers. I'm pretty comfortable with tin tops and I was tossing up between F3 and F4. Decided to go with F3 because of what I'd seen of the driving standards in F4, and also because I felt confident enough with it during test drives. I've found it's even helped me get more confident in the LMP2 which I'm using as a stepping stone to GTP... My point is there is merit to working up to these awesome cars, and from the looks of things quite a few people could afford to go back a step. Maybe the kinds of people who get into these accidents enough will eventually get filtered out by SR... well that's how it's supposed to work, anyway.
tbh f3 is way cleaner of racing if you are quick. Im at the point where I've lost 500 rating and 1.0 on LR because the last 5 races someone has in the superformulas has completely taken me out. I love the car, but I guess you almost have to grind up to 1800+ ir before the lobbies clean up. I was 1600 and still got people who it seems never drive the car in AI races or just hotlapping
It's funny you made this video this week. I've had 6 races this week the most I've ever done in a week and all but two of them have been great. The two that were bad one was my fault. I'm thinking of trying this class but Red Bull is always a shit show. Great comeback in the last race after a few bad ones way to hang in there buddy.
It's been atrocious, especially Red Bull Ring. Great to catch you in a session yesterday Ben but sorry to see you were also taken out of that too :( Red Bull Ring is a great car/track combo but horrible for bandits, particularly on Lap 1 at T1 and T3. I'm also wondering if iRacing has a bug that disables mirrors on some people's machines... because half the field seems to ignore them? I'm not sure Okayama is going to be better, but I doubt it can be worse :D Best of luck though. I'm really hoping the racing gets cleaner because I've also had some exceptional racing in this car!
I raced Formula Renault all last season (which has been around for many years) and this is kind of how these races go so not sure it will really improve that much. There are not that many people with the skill or patience to run 30-45 mins in this type of car.
Honestly it’s not just formula, dirt oval and asphalt oval are hot dog water and no one owns up to anything then when you protest either nothing happens or iRacing doesn’t let you protest. The only races that I can get into that are worth my time anymore are the Pro4 trucks.
Weird thing is I've generally had quite good races in the SF, I think my conservative nature early in a race really plays to my advantage. I did 1 race at RBR and went from 18th to 6th with 0x.
I got a pretty good hang of this car in week 13 but I struggled with redbull ring. I practiced for 2 days before I signed up for my first official race because I didn’t want to be a weapon haha
And even two days is a bare minimum. I don’t understand why these drivers don’t want to get better. The idea of racing but going off track or spinning every lap does not sound fun to me 😅
@@TheSnaveeelPlaysGames depending on the track/ car combo 2 days is a bit excessive… maybe if you are trying to get the absolutely fastest time but if you are just trying to be competitive and not wreck, you shouldn’t need that long
Plague of the GT3 unfortunately. There are no decent quick single seater races anywhere because they are too difficult for the average sim racer to handle!
well that's rb ring - it's carnage with almost every other car because of those three heavy braking zones, i wouldn't say it's that much car specific, it just happens faster and with more speed difference the faster the car is 😁
Hi Ben - love your videos! But, and I’m sure I’ll get downvoted into oblivion for this, but the first and last incidents you show in the pre-show, I’d put them 50% on you and 50% on the other guy. The first one - he did the dive bomb (ugh), but you presumably saw him doing it, and you didn’t give him any room on the inside. His fault - but you could likely have avoided him by just going a little wider. Happens all the time on lap 1 turn 1, as you of course know. And the last incident, more of a racing incident, but again you didn’t give him a ton of room there on the inside. Just IMO of course!
Ha! Hey Greg - that’s the joy of discussion! Alas on incident one I never saw him as I was 2 wide on the outside and my attention was focussed there and once he’s dived he’s in my blind spot. I couldn’t go wider for fear of collecting a car to my left. On the second one, my view is it’s just daft full stop to pass in to T1, especially in formula cars. It’s not really a big enough braking zone and the other driver can’t go much wider to give you room at racing speed because the kerbs on the outside of the exit will kill you if you run on to them. And there’s a huge braking zone to come up the hill if you can just be patient. Thanks for watching and engaging!
Tbh in the first incident the guy was almost fully alongside and you just kept turning in. Its the first corner you need to have more awareness. The last incident you were on the outside and behind and then again turned in on him once you got ahead. I raced all week at redbull without incident. With open wheel cars you have to actively give people space regardless of who you think is right because any touch is nornally game over.
Putting aside the bad boyracer-style track behaviour, the main thing that puts me off online racing is seeing you, a very experienced and earnest sim gamer (with almost inhuman levels of patience and faith in others), coming in 12th out of realistically 17.

It’s the reason I didn’t even try racing in the series this season cause im terribly off the pace of even the bottom spilt lobbies lol I ended up just sticking to gt3 this season and maybe build up to open wheelers by next.

Is people thinking they can win in the first two corners and send it like their life depends on it 🤦🏻♂️💩. Your pretty much guaranteed to have someone send it on you into turn one cause of the closeness of the field but turn 2 is where you’ll get dive bombed to hell lol.

Agreed. F3 is that sweet spot. They’re not popular on TV (which is the main reason) so people who drive them do so because they love them. The SF23 is cursed because people watch F1 on tv and think “uuu I want to pretend to be Verstappen!” when in reality this car (and the W13) takes a lot of patience and skill. It’s really just a bunch of people who want to play video games instead of an actual sim.
