Despite the graphical differences, I still think Ninja Gaiden Black is worth getting since it has a port of the original arcade version of Ninja Gaiden, which was never ported to home consoles. Well, it was kinda ported to the Atari Lynx, and it wasn't a bad port, actually, but no one played the Lynx.
Don't take the comparsion video for fact. The only level they really dramatically changed, is the first. Especially when you get to the city, they look extremely similar.
Sigma was weird. The first stage of Sigma looked much better than Black but the rest of the game, except for a few instances, looked the same as the Xbox versions.

I hate, hate hate to play as Rachel. The fact that it's obligatory on Story mode and Mission mode for Sigma is why I prefer Ninja Gaiden Black over Sigma. The 2 extra costumes and original arcade game of Ninja Gaiden as unlockables on Black is sweet too.

You could unlock the originals on the regular Ninja Gaiden too. It was way tougher though. You had to get all 60 scarabs them shoot the clock tower in Tairan and a box will come down and the arcade will appear

Besides the extra chapters Sigma versions added where you play characters unfitting to the pace, they are much more simplified in many aspects. Short of the story, Xbox versions are superior.
@@Dismantles I liked the difficulty. Sigma games lessened the number of enemies in some areas to accommodate the Japanese audience finding the og games “hard”. They also toned down the gore.
My mate gave me a pirate copy of Black thinking it was a DVD and it's still one of my favourite games of alltime, I did smash about four controlers finishing it though. Quality game!

Something tells me I should stick to Ninja Gaiden 1 & 2 on the Xbox consoles, not the PS3/Vita versions because of Itagaki-San. It is his preference just like with some of the DOA/ DOA Extreme games (Not DOA Extreme 3, DOA5, & DOA6). He left Tecmo Koei for personal reasons and had no involvement with Ninja Gaiden 3/NG3: Razer’s Edge and Yaiba Ninja Gaiden Z as far as I’m concerned, IDK. I don’t know what happened to Itagaki or where he is or anything really. I hope he is all right and still at large. Fingers crossed.
I never had an original Xbox, but I have to admit the console was ahead of its time. Ninja Gaiden saga still has great graphics on the original Xbox. I like the gloomy lights and dark atmosphere on Xbox better than the Ps3 version .
The first level is the only one which looks better weirdly. And check out how terrible the water looks in the ps3 ver compared to the first 2 xbox versions

old comment so dunno if you will read it, for me the xbox black version looks better, sure textures looks blurry but it was mostly because of the console limits at the time, otherwise all effects and particles looks more consistent in black, even water looks WAY better in the black version. the sigma just added no sense bloom everywhere, some random objects and thats it, makes me remember of bad skyrim "graphics" mods that add random sht ruining the original art style.
Obviously the PS3 is a generation ahead of the Xbox, so it's going to have the edge when it comes to resolution, polygon count etc, but there's quite a bit of detail that Sigma left out. You mentioned how Sigma is missing the bloom effects in the window, but in that same frame you can see just how much more its lacking. The floor on the Xbox versions show the reflection of the wall, but the PS3 just has a simple matte texture and Ryu's shadow. Also notice how there's less artwork on the walls and wooden beams. Then at the boss fight with Murai there's even more missing. The blur effect when he's waving his nunchaku is entirely absent from Sigma, as is the lens flare effect.
of course sigma has the best graphics overall and i have all the sigma games and the ng games for xbox and 360,ps3. The best one overall is black 2nd. Ng1,3rd. Ng2
The Reaper95 As much as I hate to admit it Black is more superior than Sigma, Sigma's controls are not as responsive as Black's controls. I've played Black for thousands of hours on my Original Xbox and still have it till this day, but there is actually noticeable lag with controlling Ryu in Sigma. Any die-hard player can notice and see the lag from miles away when compaired to Black

To cover for the now-missing comments from the other commenter, I'll explain some basic reasons why Black is better, in the form of a response to 'The Reaper95' (lol).: For one, no, Sigma no longer looks better than Black is any appreciable sense. Textures are somewhat higher quality, but now you can play Black at 960p on a normal Xbox One, or pretty much 4k on an Xbox One X, granting a crispness is simply isn't there in Sigma. Two, no, Sigma does *not* look better anyway. The missing reflections on the Dojo floor seen in this video, (3:08), as well as having overblown lighting, and missing effects... it looks worse. And from a pure art design standpoint, it looks worse, making the first level of Sigma stick out compared to the visual style of the rest of the game. That's not good. From a gameplay perspective, as K' Dash 02 said, Black has more responsive controls. It's understandable that they weren't able to get the controls down perfectly with Sigma, being their first project trying to acclimatise to the PS3, but it doesn't change that Black is simply more responsive. While there is extra content, it comes at the cost of extra content that Black had, and Sigma forces you to play as Rachel for a few missions, which isn't something anyone wanted in the main game.
This comparison has me interested in the recently-announced Ninja Gaiden Collection. However, there are a multitudes of comparisons showing the inferiority of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (I'd prefer to call it NG 2 Sigma given that title is more logically correct for what it is - a newer edition of NG 2). I didn't get a chance to play NG2 on Xbox One X via Game Pass over the last year, I did play the og Ninja Gaiden (or was it Black?) on Game Pass, a little (lol it's hard), and also played bits and pieces OG Ninja Gaiden at my cousin's house, as a teenager. So maybe I can finally get a go, but the price is making me hesitant. Then there's the fact that at the end of 2018 or 2019, Ninja Gaiden III was made available as a perk for XBox Live Gold, and is backwards-compatible (and I think enhanced?) on Xbox One (X). Sigh.
The first 2 ninja gaiden games are just synomonous with xbox! In the way Devil may cry used to be with Playstation. I cant believe this is a debate. Ninga gaiden 2 on PS3 had to cut back on enemy count. No amount of pretty leaves makes up for messing with level & gameplay design.
I never had Xbox but the sigma games were great, NGS2 was my favorite NG game ever actually. I played some of black at a friend's house but it felt more or less the same as NGS1 so not sure if the difficulty is more or less the same minus refined controls? Never realized how different the PS3 version was from Xbox.
I have both Xbox and Ps3 versions. Played them back to back. I would say Black is more enjoyable as they're more puzzles (they were removed in Sigma), no Rachel chapters in Black, minute differences in level design, but the difficulty in Black is tougher. I found in sigma you can jump around more and nail flying swallows more often, whereas in Black enemies are made grounded so you can't abuse it as often. Boss fights are way harder I felt in Black
Sigma just looks wrong in my eyes. Too much bloom and color. Black is WAY harder on difficultties above normal. It adds minions to Boss fights, new enemies, all that good stuff.
No dude, sigma is not better than black... if you play the higher difficulties you'll really see the difference... it looks slightly better graphically but I'll rather play black any day over sigma
The Xbox versions are actually harder than the PS3 versions, I almost threw the controller at the screen several times lol. I've been playing NGS on the PS3 emulator and it's way less frustrating than on the Xbox xD. You have some good stuff, you got a new sub.
Maybe harder for you because you didn't play it before. I played NG and NGB on xbox, and the NGS on PS3, not an emulator, and I feel like it's the exact same difficulty. NGS actually has some harder missions.

+Nick Nolte I do have both versions of MGS2 Substance, and I can say a few things. Xbox has far clearer particle effects, but PS2 has slightly better color. Xbox version has progressive scan available, but PS2 does not. PS2 has pressure sensitive face and shoulder buttons that the Xbox doesn't have, but the Xbox version does clever things to make up for its lower number of inputs to press. PS2 has the skateboarding minigame, the Xbox does not. Do with this info as you will.

Yeah, Black is the best version of NG. Sigma just added mostly useless fluff and made a perfectly balanced game less balanced by randomly changing some things around in the mechanics. The extra content doesn't really make up for the game as a whole just being worse.
In terms of plot Sigma and black have the same plot of the classic game , right? if you were to buy the two Sigma and I will continue with Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge you can do it ?

Owen this last part of the video you showed with mr. Numb check I learned one thing if you time and just write and run across the walls and use the Wall Street Vantage he's pretty much easy to be and also piece of advice never take him from the front face to face that's suicide it's more effective to feed him in his blind spots cuz when you time the last hit this right it does a special cool thing that almost looks like a death scene but it's more like looking like he's just passing out from exhaustion after you defeat him and then you get back into a conversation with him again then he asks you about your father and everything else and how the village is doing and then when it reaches a certain point of the conversation ayane burst into the room with a message for Master Ryu about what's happening in the village at the moment of a terrible incident
NGS = better graphics by far, also better animations + extra weapon + Ryu can shoot arrows in the air and walk on water (not necessarily good), also some extra soundtracks but I'm not a big fan of them + some extra gameplay sections (Doku first encounter for ex, but they also removed that nice cutscene ...) NGB = better story mode because there are no Rachel chapters, it's 100% Ryu, that alone makes it a better game. Basically, we need NGB with NGS graphics (or better)
Because the og Xb was a beast...lol well it's probably because Sigma was probably simply ported over and then they added some extra cosmetic stuffs. If the game was built from the ground up for the Ps3, then it would have been better.

When you think about some of the things that you set the timer Xbox versions did better with the sigma like the sunlight coming to the window and Mister nunchucks gauntlets well think about it that's probably why the collection coming out has the name Master collection they're trying to fix some of the things that people are griping about so each part of the game use a certain aspects of people liked in the original and black versions will be found in the new version of Sigma 1 and the same thing goes for the second one and the third one Razors Edge some of the things that made the first two versions of the series look better we'll be in there but with better light a nicer effects in detail of the environment but less things will be missing and more there so the master collection might have the benefit of all three versions of the first one and all two versions of the first and second game making it so fans give me more happy because enemies lighting and everything will be a lot better and detail and no blur more clarity and also Ryu will be his proper height but you also mentioned so that means when you do the side by side comparison you probably think the master collection is probably the best out of all of them cuz it carries all the goodness that was found in all three versions that people liked in one aspect of the game and people like in the aspect of the other two that way they're all combined to create the perfect collection hence the name Master collection that's why the collection has a name master in it it'll probably have all the Xbox people liked in the Xbox version the 360 versions and the Vita versions will probably all be in the collection of the master collection that's probably why it has the name master in it because it's the perfect collection that has a lot of things about it that would make fans happy it might even restore the waterfall at the beginning of the level that was removed in that cave you were talking about the probably have that door area and the cave the probably have both where the key will be in its usual location and then the door will be in a different spot the door is technically a shortcut to another area I've been to the door it's actually a shortcut where you can be in a later area after this boss and you come through that door and come back to this area that's what that door is and maybe it'll have some of those Sigma plus options as well it means everything that the Vita versions of the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy had the master collection we'll probably also have those options in all the benefits of the lighting and everything that people liked where will have two perks of the original versions and the Black Version and the sigma version and the sigma plus version menial have the version of all Xbox attributes with sliding and coloring but a little better to see and enjoy so it doesn't look like you're feeding Your Colors by send your TV brightness to high this way every single the lady will be better balanced because that lighting you said to come to the window I've seen clouds do that in reality I agree that is cool that little Sunbeam coming to the windows I've seen clouds do better on a cloudy day when the sun would pick through that kind of lighting is real so we'll probably have the benefit in this collection of all the previous versions but done in a way that makes a lot people more happier because it did a better job than when it was on PlayStation 3 or Xbox or Vita versions has everything they have and more and better coloring lighting and better placed enemies in a better placed battle system in difficulty unless collection that's why Tecmo calls it the master collection cuz it fixes all those mistakes they made on the PS3 versions this way a lot of the laying of facts and bracelets and stuff that you thought were better than the Xbox versions are probably there but more colorful in a more Brighter Image like on Playstation but done better this way it'll be more better balanced with lighting and color and detail making it much more impressive animorph are battle system so the game is not too hard or too easy the only thing that bugs me is when it came to fighting the soldiers one mistake and never kicked you around like a rag doll I did not find that funny but it's equal certain areas were enemies off for a lot of stuff you can pretty much grind for Stuff increasing your survival rate like you would to make yourself stronger in an RPG

For those who don't know the regular ninja gaiden was the easier version that got released only in US. Black was the one that was originally released just play on hard and master ninja you'll see why it's the hardest game of all time

Well I have black and am probably getting the master collection no I know I am I’d like to try the sigmas (damn auto correct put dogmas lol) NG 3 Razors edge can go to hell unless they took the alchemists out lol garbage enemy brutes to with auto block on third but not as bad die with a charged kusarigami ultimate
Sigma is the best version all around as far as visuals and gameplay hands down. I love all versions though and still play them till this day. The original NG on the og xbox while great has bad camera angles, the difficulty and game was very unbalanced. Ninja gaiden black was a way better version introducing a more ballanced game, more ballanced enemies and weapons, better camera angles, u could control the camera manually and overall a more fun and accessible game. NG sigma is the best version because of the better graphics and a complete overhaul of the game, u can pretty much call it a remake. It added new weapons, u got access to most weapons faster, the game was ballanced to a "T", the enemies were easier to fight, the weapons were ballanced when fighting enemies, more save points throughout the game, the in game menu was less frustrating to navigate, they gave u more life potions throughout the game, they added new music, new enemies, new level design, the game was easier by removing some of the more frustrating sections with more easier and straight forward sections, u could play as Rachel which added more story to the game and the game was just overall more fun. I also believe the game is full 1080p@60 making this the best version to get. The vita version NG sigma was great as well but I didn't like how the framerate wasn't 60fps and because of that the game had a slight delay which made it unbalanced somewhat as far as hit detection, movement and trying to pull off moves other that it was a great port and doesn't break the game, but if u played the other versions u will see the drop in framerate. I wish they would bring sigma and NG2 on the switch
The control is laggy which is super important with this sort of game, its WAY too easy in comparison to the original, in later levels there are less enemies on screen at a time (which adds to making it easier) and Black actually has extra enemy types (some of the coolest and most chanllenging ones) that never made it to the PS3 version. Plus for collecting all the Scarabs you unlocked either Ninja Gaiden Trilogy on the original version, or the arcade version on Black. Nothing but a trophy on PS3 AFAIR. The PS3 version is a great game still, and not that many people had access to the original X-Box version. Yes the graphics have been upgraded, strangely with a less advanced lighting system that they replaced with simple bloom lighting, and there is more content for additional characters (the 3 Rachel levels.) I have and love the original, Black, and Sigma, Sigma is one of my all time favourite PS3 games, and Black is probably my 2nd favourite OG X-Box game after Panzer Dragoon, but as for graphically enhanced upgrades from "full generation older tech" think more Mario 64DS instead of Ocarina of Time 3D. It looks prettier, they added stuff in, but it does not play as well or control as smoothly as the original. STILL totally awesome as all hell, I even bought Sigma BEFORE I had my PS3 cos I saw it on sale and wanted it to be one of the first games I played on the system.

"Sigma" was considered a retooled version of the Xbox original in '07. But today, it would be called a remake.

old comment so dunno if you will read it, for me the xbox black version looks better, sure textures looks blurry but it was mostly because of the console limits at the time, otherwise all effects and particles looks more consistent in black, even water looks WAY better in the black version.
the sigma just added no sense bloom everywhere, some random objects and thats it, makes me remember of bad skyrim "graphics" mods that add random sht ruining the original art style.
Obviously the PS3 is a generation ahead of the Xbox, so it's going to have the edge when it comes to resolution, polygon count etc, but there's quite a bit of detail that Sigma left out. You mentioned how Sigma is missing the bloom effects in the window, but in that same frame you can see just how much more its lacking. The floor on the Xbox versions show the reflection of the wall, but the PS3 just has a simple matte texture and Ryu's shadow. Also notice how there's less artwork on the walls and wooden beams. Then at the boss fight with Murai there's even more missing. The blur effect when he's waving his nunchaku is entirely absent from Sigma, as is the lens flare effect.

As much as I hate to admit it Black is more superior than Sigma, Sigma's controls are not as responsive as Black's controls. I've played Black for thousands of hours on my Original Xbox and still have it till this day, but there is actually noticeable lag with controlling Ryu in Sigma. Any die-hard player can notice and see the lag from miles away when compaired to Black

To cover for the now-missing comments from the other commenter, I'll explain some basic reasons why Black is better, in the form of a response to 'The Reaper95' (lol).:
For one, no, Sigma no longer looks better than Black is any appreciable sense. Textures are somewhat higher quality, but now you can play Black at 960p on a normal Xbox One, or pretty much 4k on an Xbox One X, granting a crispness is simply isn't there in Sigma. Two, no, Sigma does *not* look better anyway. The missing reflections on the Dojo floor seen in this video, (3:08), as well as having overblown lighting, and missing effects... it looks worse. And from a pure art design standpoint, it looks worse, making the first level of Sigma stick out compared to the visual style of the rest of the game. That's not good.
From a gameplay perspective, as K' Dash 02 said, Black has more responsive controls. It's understandable that they weren't able to get the controls down perfectly with Sigma, being their first project trying to acclimatise to the PS3, but it doesn't change that Black is simply more responsive. While there is extra content, it comes at the cost of extra content that Black had, and Sigma forces you to play as Rachel for a few missions, which isn't something anyone wanted in the main game.
There's one more difference between the original and the black, notice the scar in Murai's face. Also, some characters seems more detailed.

This comparison has me interested in the recently-announced Ninja Gaiden Collection. However, there are a multitudes of comparisons showing the inferiority of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (I'd prefer to call it NG 2 Sigma given that title is more logically correct for what it is - a newer edition of NG 2).
I didn't get a chance to play NG2 on Xbox One X via Game Pass over the last year, I did play the og Ninja Gaiden (or was it Black?) on Game Pass, a little (lol it's hard), and also played bits and pieces OG Ninja Gaiden at my cousin's house, as a teenager. So maybe I can finally get a go, but the price is making me hesitant.
Then there's the fact that at the end of 2018 or 2019, Ninja Gaiden III was made available as a perk for XBox Live Gold, and is backwards-compatible (and I think enhanced?) on Xbox One (X). Sigh.
The first 2 ninja gaiden games are just synomonous with xbox! In the way Devil may cry used to be with Playstation. I cant believe this is a debate. Ninga gaiden 2 on PS3 had to cut back on enemy count. No amount of pretty leaves makes up for messing with level & gameplay design.
I never had Xbox but the sigma games were great, NGS2 was my favorite NG game ever actually. I played some of black at a friend's house but it felt more or less the same as NGS1 so not sure if the difficulty is more or less the same minus refined controls? Never realized how different the PS3 version was from Xbox.
I have both Xbox and Ps3 versions. Played them back to back. I would say Black is more enjoyable as they're more puzzles (they were removed in Sigma), no Rachel chapters in Black, minute differences in level design, but the difficulty in Black is tougher. I found in sigma you can jump around more and nail flying swallows more often, whereas in Black enemies are made grounded so you can't abuse it as often. Boss fights are way harder I felt in Black
Sigma just looks wrong in my eyes. Too much bloom and color.
Black is WAY harder on difficultties above normal. It adds minions to Boss fights, new enemies, all that good stuff.
I don't have a Xbox I can only play sigma plus

The Xbox versions are actually harder than the PS3 versions, I almost threw the controller at the screen several times lol.
I've been playing NGS on the PS3 emulator and it's way less frustrating than on the Xbox xD.

Maybe harder for you because you didn't play it before. I played NG and NGB on xbox, and the NGS on PS3, not an emulator, and I feel like it's the exact same difficulty. NGS actually has some harder missions.

+Nick Nolte I do have both versions of MGS2 Substance, and I can say a few things. Xbox has far clearer particle effects, but PS2 has slightly better color. Xbox version has progressive scan available, but PS2 does not. PS2 has pressure sensitive face and shoulder buttons that the Xbox doesn't have, but the Xbox version does clever things to make up for its lower number of inputs to press. PS2 has the skateboarding minigame, the Xbox does not.

The reason why i like sigma is the camera feature and the graphics. Sigma 2 the new features like weapons and bosses but ng2 is way better for the blood, the hidden challenge areas,etc.

Yeah, Black is the best version of NG. Sigma just added mostly useless fluff and made a perfectly balanced game less balanced by randomly changing some things around in the mechanics. The extra content doesn't really make up for the game as a whole just being worse.

Numb check I learned one thing if you time and just write and run across the walls and use the Wall Street Vantage he's pretty much easy to be and also piece of advice never take him from the front face to face that's suicide it's more effective to feed him in his blind spots cuz when you time the last hit this right it does a special cool thing that almost looks like a death scene but it's more like looking like he's just passing out from exhaustion after you defeat him and then you get back into a conversation with him again then he asks you about your father and everything else and how the village is doing and then when it reaches a certain point of the conversation ayane burst into the room with a message for Master Ryu about what's happening in the village at the moment of a terrible incident

You can control the camera in Black. You just need to click in the right stick.

NGS = better graphics by far, also better animations + extra weapon + Ryu can shoot arrows in the air and walk on water (not necessarily good), also some extra soundtracks but I'm not a big fan of them + some extra gameplay sections (Doku first encounter for ex, but they also removed that nice cutscene ...)
NGB = better story mode because there are no Rachel chapters, it's 100% Ryu, that alone makes it a better game.
Basically, we need NGB with NGS graphics (or better)

Because the og Xb was a beast...lol well it's probably because Sigma was probably simply ported over and then they added some extra cosmetic stuffs. If the game was built from the ground up for the Ps3, then it would have been better.

When you think about some of the things that you set the timer Xbox versions did better with the sigma like the sunlight coming to the window and Mister nunchucks gauntlets well think about it that's probably why the collection coming out has the name Master collection they're trying to fix some of the things that people are griping about so each part of the game use a certain aspects of people liked in the original and black versions will be found in the new version of Sigma 1 and the same thing goes for the second one and the third one Razors Edge some of the things that made the first two versions of the series look better we'll be in there but with better light a nicer effects in detail of the environment but less things will be missing and more there so the master collection might have the benefit of all three versions of the first one and all two versions of the first and second game making it so fans give me more happy because enemies lighting and everything will be a lot better and detail and no blur more clarity and also Ryu will be his proper height but you also mentioned so that means when you do the side by side comparison you probably think the master collection is probably the best out of all of them cuz it carries all the goodness that was found in all three versions that people liked in one aspect of the game and people like in the aspect of the other two that way they're all combined to create the perfect collection hence the name Master collection that's why the collection has a name master in it it'll probably have all the Xbox people liked in the Xbox version the 360 versions and the Vita versions will probably all be in the collection of the master collection that's probably why it has the name master in it because it's the perfect collection that has a lot of things about it that would make fans happy it might even restore the waterfall at the beginning of the level that was removed in that cave you were talking about the probably have that door area and the cave the probably have both where the key will be in its usual location and then the door will be in a different spot the door is technically a shortcut to another area I've been to the door it's actually a shortcut where you can be in a later area after this boss and you come through that door and come back to this area that's what that door is and maybe it'll have some of those Sigma plus options as well it means everything that the Vita versions of the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy had the master collection we'll probably also have those options in all the benefits of the lighting and everything that people liked where will have two perks of the original versions and the Black Version and the sigma version and the sigma plus version menial have the version of all Xbox attributes with sliding and coloring but a little better to see and enjoy so it doesn't look like you're feeding Your Colors by send your TV brightness to high this way every single the lady will be better balanced because that lighting you said to come to the window I've seen clouds do that in reality I agree that is cool that little Sunbeam coming to the windows I've seen clouds do better on a cloudy day when the sun would pick through that kind of lighting is real so we'll probably have the benefit in this collection of all the previous versions but done in a way that makes a lot people more happier because it did a better job than when it was on PlayStation 3 or Xbox or Vita versions has everything they have and more and better coloring lighting and better placed enemies in a better placed battle system in difficulty unless collection that's why Tecmo calls it the master collection cuz it fixes all those mistakes they made on the PS3 versions this way a lot of the laying of facts and bracelets and stuff that you thought were better than the Xbox versions are probably there but more colorful in a more Brighter Image like on Playstation but done better this way it'll be more better balanced with lighting and color and detail making it much more impressive animorph are battle system so the game is not too hard or too easy the only thing that bugs me is when it came to fighting the soldiers one mistake and never kicked you around like a rag doll I did not find that funny but it's equal certain areas were enemies off for a lot of stuff you can pretty much grind for Stuff increasing your survival rate like you would to make yourself stronger in an RPG

Sigma is the best version all around as far as visuals and gameplay hands down. I love all versions though and still play them till this day.
The original NG on the og xbox while great has bad camera angles, the difficulty and game was very unbalanced.
Ninja gaiden black was a way better version introducing a more ballanced game, more ballanced enemies and weapons, better camera angles, u could control the camera manually and overall a more fun and accessible game.
NG sigma is the best version because of the better graphics and a complete overhaul of the game, u can pretty much call it a remake. It added new weapons, u got access to most weapons faster, the game was ballanced to a "T", the enemies were easier to fight, the weapons were ballanced when fighting enemies, more save points throughout the game, the in game menu was less frustrating to navigate, they gave u more life potions throughout the game, they added new music, new enemies, new level design, the game was easier by removing some of the more frustrating sections with more easier and straight forward sections, u could play as Rachel which added more story to the game and the game was just overall more fun. I also believe the game is full 1080p@60 making this the best version to get.
The vita version NG sigma was great as well but I didn't like how the framerate wasn't 60fps and because of that the game had a slight delay which made it unbalanced somewhat as far as hit detection, movement and trying to pull off moves other that it was a great port and doesn't break the game, but if u played the other versions u will see the drop in framerate. I wish they would bring sigma and NG2 on the switch

Creative Dreams what mechanics did they screw up and why is the gameplay worse?
The control is laggy which is super important with this sort of game, its WAY too easy in comparison to the original, in later levels there are less enemies on screen at a time (which adds to making it easier) and Black actually has extra enemy types (some of the coolest and most chanllenging ones) that never made it to the PS3 version. Plus for collecting all the Scarabs you unlocked either Ninja Gaiden Trilogy on the original version, or the arcade version on Black. Nothing but a trophy on PS3 AFAIR.
The PS3 version is a great game still, and not that many people had access to the original X-Box version. Yes the graphics have been upgraded, strangely with a less advanced lighting system that they replaced with simple bloom lighting, and there is more content for additional characters (the 3 Rachel levels.)
I have and love the original, Black, and Sigma, Sigma is one of my all time favourite PS3 games, and Black is probably my 2nd favourite OG X-Box game after Panzer Dragoon, but as for graphically enhanced upgrades from "full generation older tech" think more Mario 64DS instead of Ocarina of Time 3D.
It looks prettier, they added stuff in, but it does not play as well or control as smoothly as the original.
STILL totally awesome as all hell, I even bought Sigma BEFORE I had my PS3 cos I saw it on sale and wanted it to be one of the first games I played on the system.
