I wouldn't say that GX "introduced" fusion summoning... just more highly expanded on it. If anything, it more or less introduced synergies with archetypes.
They should remake/continue some of side stories of original yugioh. Then..make ritual summon for original yugioh trademark. I mean they really spamming ritual summon lol. So ritual wont be forgotten

Even the holy beasts of the anime had a contact fusion. Do you always need to see a new colour, to realize that it is a different kind of extra deck monster? I just recently got back into it and it's not as bad as you're thinking. I'd recommend looking up different structure decks and seeing if there's one that takes your fancy. Then buy three of them. There are plenty of guides on RUclips for budget decks made this way. And as time goes by you can buy another card or two here and there to expand your collection and tweak your deck. For that I'd recommend tcgplayer's website they have the current average price for every card you could want. But anyway these budget decks aren't like tournament competitive, but for having fun at locals they're great and only cost $30 to put together.
This game (while flawed in a fair few ways) is kind of perfect for casual nostalgia. The way the duels are set up you can pretty much pick your favourite time period of yugioh and explore outwards from there. Personally I liked the early 5Ds era and this game was(/is with this new expansion) great to just mess around with that era of decks and then slowly explore the more recent eras
Also a good way to learn the new stuff besides watching replays is by making a Dueling Nexus account and making a deck or decks on there and playing against the bot or other players. It's a lot of fun, especially since it's free af and I haven't had time to go to locals because of moving so I gotta get my fix. Played against a 47 year old man on there the other day and he blew my mind with just the sneakiest asshole deck I've ever played against lol.
link summon is a must know in the new master rule..because of the special summon restriction you cannot special summon from extra deck in normal monster zone unless you set on link monster at the new monster zone first

Yeah, I get you. I miss the world championship games for the campaign mode. Tons of people skipped out on the last DS game because they were expecting the next one to take full advantage of the 3ds' hardware. World Championship never got another title, let alone a 3ds game.

I really liked Legacy of the duelist on PC, but am wondering something about this version : is playing with Master Rules 4 mandatory ? In particular, can you play against friends, go through the story or do the duelist challenges using Master Rules 3, or do you always have to deal with the special summoning restrictions brought by Master Rules 4 ?

Fusion summoning was around in the original Yu-Gi-Oh just not nearly as used except for a few such as Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon. GX just brought it into the spotlight and make more of a usable mechanic with more variety of effects

Its the new link zones my friend, any extra deck monsters must be summoned there and cannot be summoned in any other space unless you have link monster with arrows pointing to other spaces thus opening them up. Look it up
It's the extra monster zone. If you don't have a link monster in that zone pointing to one of your 5 zones you will be forced to have only one Extra deck monster in that zone and you can't place any other extra deck monster there unless you replace the previous one or find a way to move it out the zone.
I loved this game played so much of it on steam and can’t wait to get this. I highly recommend this I learned so much of new yugioh playing this. I only wished they had more animations for the monsters

I have the PC version, and getting to experience proxies of the different eras of Yugioh was a great way to learn about the game’s history, and if MR4 is always in effect, it might make it difficult for new players to understand why certain archetypes were so popular :O

Is the dlc all that important? I assumed it was simply pre-made decks using cards already included in the game, for those who did not want to try grind for them.
I love this game. My personal favorite way to play is to try and create a deck using all summoning methods, no matter how impractical it can be sometimes.

Hm, the fact that the legacy formats (Synchro, XYZ, etc) all still seem to be limited by master rule 4 is disappointing. That will be a serious damper on the power level & ability to relive older decks.

Either you are moving goalposts or you are legitimately dumb, since we're talking about games that REQUIRE an internet connection, it's not enough to "use online". LOTD has online after all. "Welcome to online gaming" No, welcome to games as a service. Which LOTD is not, and Duel Links and all other online TCGs like Magic Arena/Hearthstone/etc are. And there's a LOT of story campaign decks/duels as well as challenge duels in this game, it's going to take hundreds of hours to get through them and build varied decks, you have access to every card in the TCG, for a single purchase, I think that's fantastic. And all of that's playing and progressing, while in something like Duel Links you can grind for a hundred hours against the same half a dozen dumb NPCs with the same half a dozen decks (spread through many weeks, since there is a stamina system to time gate rewards) and only get a handful of 3 card packs, because the game is designed to get you to spend money. Because that's what online-only games are like, and that's where value in being an offline, self-contained game lies.
Awesome, I played this a lot on the ps4 and this version is even more complete will for sure buy it when it comes out in the west this summer. If we only had tag duels this game would be fucking perfect
Master Rule 4. Long story short, in order to curb the sheer amount of extra deck spamming that certain decks were using (Zoodiacs) and to reign in pendulum decks they introduced the extra monster zone. Anything that comes from the extra deck must go there first.

No need to play anything past xexal. Pendulum summoning was broken and they made link summoning (vrains) to balance it.

Not sure if you can but pendulum summoning isn't really a massive problem and isn't hard to fuck with.

Because Pokémon TCG is different and has 80%+ of all cards have been rotated out and they're not going to add in older cards that have been rotated.

I love this game. My personal favorite way to play is to try and create a deck using all summoning methods, no matter how impractical it can be sometimes.

@@soukenmarufwt5224 Actually, they had an English version of Tag Force Special (which Arc V) but only for short amount of time, as well as a 5ds one. I actually like the later series, just not V Rains, and the GX anime was a bit eh IMO

Those are the Extra Monsters zones, introduced with the Link rules

@@mihaelkeehl354 no, but if you want to summon more monsters from the Extra deck you need first to link summon for "connecting" the field, then from your graveyard you can summon them where you want
One of the main reasons i quit duel links was the gladiator beasts deck. Does this game have such broken effects?

nope! you can even surrender to get a healthy amount of points and a free card from the opponent's deck

Hm, the fact that the legacy formats (Synchro, XYZ, etc) all still seem to be limited by master rule 4 is disappointing. That will be a serious damper on the power level & ability to relive older decks.
D/D will be fine they work well in link format
Honestly I cant think of to many older decks that atre strait unplayable in master rule 4.
crossdaboss8 i never understood DD cards it’s like you fusion summon 2 cards that don’t have good abilities mind you and theeeennnnnn......... now what? All it takes if for a Raigeki or mirror force to wipe them out then what? I seen no option to recycle your fusion monsters from the grave yard or nun basically what I’m asking is what’s the point of the DDs I keep hearing about them but I don’t see anything too special I love their designs also so if I’m missing something please help me out
ericblackwell70 there's one that the cards can't be destoryed by card effects as well as cant be targeted and theres a bunch of D/D with effects like if you special summon a d/D monster summon 1 from grave

And online only games are a HUGE deal, they are by nature games as a service, which carries a truckload of other implications such as constant monetization (which seeps into game design) and game preservation (when they shut off the servers, you LOSE your game).

Steel Tarkus There are a lot of ways to get wifi access even if you’re not at home. Even so, all you can do offline is play vs ai, which might be fun the first time through the campaign, but gets boring after that.
Also this game is plenty monetized as well. If they add new cards you have to buy a dlc to get access to them.

Yes when they shutdown the servers you lose your game. Welcome to online gaming. That’s been that way long before games as a service.
And once again, you may still be able you play without their servers, but it would just be vs bots. At that point you might as well uninstall the game.

Either you are moving goalposts or you are legitimately dumb, since we're talking about games that REQUIRE an internet connection, it's not enough to "use online". LOTD has online after all.

No, welcome to games as a service. Which LOTD is not, and Duel Links and all other online TCGs like Magic Arena/Hearthstone/etc are.
And there's a LOT of story campaign decks/duels as well as challenge duels in this game, it's going to take hundreds of hours to get through them and build varied decks, you have access to every card in the TCG, for a single purchase, I think that's fantastic. And all of that's playing and progressing, while in something like Duel Links you can grind for a hundred hours against the same half a dozen dumb NPCs with the same half a dozen decks (spread through many weeks, since there is a stamina system to time gate rewards) and only get a handful of 3 card packs, because the game is designed to get you to spend money. Because that's what online-only games are like, and that's where value in being an offline, self-contained game lies.
Awesome, I played this a lot on the ps4 and this version is even more complete will for sure buy it when it comes out in the west this summer. If we only had tag duels this game would be fucking perfect

Long story short, in order to curb the sheer amount of extra deck spamming that certain decks were using (Zoodiacs) and to reign in pendulum decks they introduced the extra monster zone. Anything that comes from the extra deck must go there first.
Can we play against other people nearby without card restrictions?

fusion summoning is not introduced GX, there were lots of fusions in the original (blue eyes ultimate dragon)
