- In today’s episode, I travel to Texas to do a tour of East Austin Succulents, along with my partner in crime Joey Santore of crime pays, but Botany doesn’t. We Galavant around the greenhouses at the nursery, and I even got to meet James who is responsible for bringing glorp to the trade and a hobby. Super cool to learn the origin story of that Mytrillocactus mutant. I want to thank Hector and Alejandra for bringing me out to Austin and taking me around town, they made this video possible. I was in town for the cactusc Market ATX, along with Madame Cacti, and tons of other amazing growers, ceramicists, and collectors. . I hope you enjoy today’s episode, which is full of Cactus Euphorbia, Agave, aloes, and all kind of bizarre plants showcased at East Austin Succulents. Cactusquest is an independent RUclips channel and any contributions you make whether it’s liking the video, dropping a comment subscribing to the channel becoming a Patreon member or sending a Venmo you are contributing to me being able to continue bringing you this content and doing what I do. A huge thank you to everyone who follows and supports me on my quest a very special thank you as this has enabled me to follow my passions, live out my creativity and most importantly spend much more quality time with my wife and children so thank you all.
I know that dog, I know that guy! But mostly I don’t know those cacti… keep bringing it, thanks
..thaught exactly the same. Not a lot of aus blue heelers about🙂
So happy some people have the enthusiasm I had upon discovering these jewels in 1978. Then there were a handful of propagators on the planet,we would get so excited to get a new catalog from Grigsby, pouring over it for days. I opened a retail shop in Cannon Beach,Oregon in 1980 called “Melo-Cactus, ahead of our time I guess. The people in the business said “you can’t grow these in the northwest”, too moist! I also had a mentor named Carl, who had 10 greenhouse on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington, and we proved them wrong! So out there somewhere are some great specimens from our work that are now 50 to 60 years old. The thing that got me was, they are one of the only plants that are still “Evolving”, just as you saw in this video. They started as trees, now look! Love the input without pretenses, thank you.
CACTUS QUEST IS THE MOST UNDERRATED CHANNEL ON RUclips
Finally the real plant guys meet up and Jack..all we need is Allen ..great video, 2 thumbs up
Never stopped a movie so fast to watch your latest episode on the quest for cactus. Maybe a video on how to tell the age of cactus. Keep.up the work. Much love
These videos awake my counsiousness of loving cactus more.
Love the plants and people at EAS! You've had a fabulous trip to TX. Thanks for taking us along.
So glad you had a great experience ☺️🌵💚 My husband and I are out of state for a bit and I’ve been missing home so much so it was such a nice surprise to see you post a video of one of my favorite places in Austin! There was actually just an event, Cactus Market ATX, on the 11th that was supposed to be so much fun with cactus and pottery vendors and lectures. I believe it’s a yearly event. Anyway, awesome video 😊 Safe travels!
That’s crazy that glorp was at Old Pueblo Cactus on Campbell and Roger in Tucson this whole time. Grew up in Tucson and visited that nursery many times
Wow, that looks like an amazing place. Thank you for sharing.
Crime pays! 🎉
Duuude, it’s the colab we’ve been waiting for! 🤘🏼
You & Joey are like celebrities to me 😂
Definitely a cactus nerd place!!! Thanks for sharing.
hell yeah Joey and Hunter together is fucking great! yes please
I was at EAS three days ago and did not see that Astrophytum Lizard Skin. I would have definitely bought it
I was also considering buying that Cinerea but decided not to because it was grafted to Hylocereus.
Love some Glorp lore
good work,fellow potter/cactus freak
Been going to EAS for a little over 7 years now, love it so much! Great seeing you and Joey at the market!
15:20 "This is borderline gross looking" 😂
I just found this show, it's amazing what there is and how people take care of them.
I run the cacti and succulent category at the nursery i work at in Georgia and I remove the plastic during the warm season. The rain seems to do wonders for all the plants even the plant that most people think dont need much water like astrophytum.
Where in Georgia? I love finding new cactus and succulent nursery. I'm across the GA line in Alabama.
I went to East Austin Succulents yesterday (5/6/24). I told them I came b/c of your video. Got myself a baby Glorp 🤣Had to get one. Thanks for sharing. I’ve being watching your for years.

If I lived in Austin that place would make me go bankrupt
Another interesting video. Thanks for sharing.
So glad to finally know the origin of the name 'glorp!'
You mentioned dragon behind the glass that is a great book. I'm an avid fish keeper and it was eye opening to learn behind the scenes with them. I started watching you channel fairly recently. Living in Michigan it's not the greatest for cacti but I can watch and dream lol.
que plantas tan hermosas
❤
Love that place ! Shipped a whole suitecase of plants back home to Chicago this past Dec
GooD👌🏼Shiiiz .
East Austin Succulents is legit! I used to travel for business, went to Austin three times, and made sure I had at least 1-2 hours to stop by. By far not enough time but I still managed to buy plants to ship back to CA each time!
Excellent work my man

Dope place!
I should be crazy and drive to California for that grafted Copiapoa. I’m drooling 😂
East Austin Succulents is an addiction!! It’s hard not to leave there without a cactus or two! 😅
It got me into growing cacti, especially night-blooming cereuses!! 🥰🌵
Awesome video
It’s crazy that the monkey tail plant you see there was stolen just days later
Awesome, Joey makes the video with great timing. It would be epically dangerous if you would team up on a eco journey together. Make it happen Hunter. What a humble person he is. Even respondes to emails from the common folk like me.
Shout out james
Big Ups to James & Joey ✊🏼

It was great meeting you and Joey at Cactus Market Atx and hearing your talks. It's nice to finally see some of the Texas cactus community on here!
