- Today we head down to Riverside California to connect with my buddy Adam Baker (@Bakersuccs on Instagram) to see his new Astrophytum greenhouse. Astrophytum is a genus of generally spinesless cacti that occur from south Texas in the case of Astropytum asterias to San Luis Potosí Mexico where you'll find various species including Astrophytum myriostigma. He shares some very useful tips and tricks for your greenhouse container garden. At the very least its fantastic eye candy. Adam is rad dude and wanna thank him for taking the time to link with me!

THE QUEST CONTINUES.....
His greenhouse is organized in such a way that you can see all of the subtle nuances in each cultivar. The way he arranges and pots everything is also very aesthetically pleasing.
Love a new greenhouse tour!
🌵✅thanks for watching!
Asteros are one of my favorite genera of all time. They are just so charismatic, and the variation between species / cultivars is stunning!
Yeah man. The genetic diversity with in this genus is jaw dropping. How could anyone not believe in evolution? 😂 I love them too.
Best guy in the world! Baker!
Ohh, Astros are always awesome!!!

What a rad collection! Bet he’s got some Trichocereus somewhere! 😂🤙🔥
Hello from Russia, from St. Petersburg! We have low temperatures in winter and lack of sunlight, so during the winter period, cacti are grown on the windowsill with additional lighting.
Love seeing a fellow brotha collecting cactus 🌵 awesome video my friend! Keep them coming
My heart sings when I see diverse plant enthusiasts. We are out there!!!

Adam has a stunning Astrophytum collection. I will remember to keep my Astros underpotted. Astros will always be a favourite of mine. Great video.
Couldn't agree more! - I personally notice many many cacti respond well to being under potted
Super nice collection Adam!🌵

Love seeing other collectors of color in the hobby 🫶🏽🤍
Yeah that's racist champ
@@samlittle7243 it’s not….. racism is when there was literally laws keeping ppl of color from horticultural practices so my ppl in this hobby aren’t seen as much or respected so pls don’t project your wyt ignorance over here
those asterias x ornatum weirdos are killer
?
amazing colection!!! greetings from Argentina!!
Adam your plants are simply amazing. I love Astrophytum, you have some of the best I’ve seen.. I’ll be contacting you for some seed.. or perhaps even to buy a specimen, (if you are so inclined)! Also, well done 👍 on the greenhouse! Happy growing 🌵
So nice to see such beautiful and healthy plants, all so nicely kept and cared for. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah man. Some of the spot have deteriorated quite a bit that I’ve visited and it’s always nice to see a super clean well cared for collection

Beautiful Cactus. Really loved all the shapes. ❤
awesome 😘

More to come! Thank you!
The Astro king Midas 🙌🏼😄
nice set up! discreet, yet he got some bangers in there! that medusae in the blue pot! i have a hard time with astro up here in PA. we get so much humidity and i think that's what kills them for me. they start off from seed good. but damp off way too easy for me. i have a couple pots of 2 yr old asterias from seed and they still haven't woke up yet and summer is almost over. i have a grafted astro that is the size of a small pumpkin lol. it thrives. nice plants, Adam. thanks for the video.
Yeah that humidity is a huge set back for these plants I think generally. But sounds like grafting the best ones is the way to go with your growing conditions
Adam, beautiful collection❤ thanks for sharing!!
Cool collection and set up 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Great tour and q and a . Guy seems very knowledgeable
Always learning! Thanks so much for this❤
You are so welcome!
Beautiful collection, thanks for sharing!
Awesome
Beautiful 😊
Awesome 🌵
Thanks for the tour and the education on Atrophytum cacti!
Hey! I learned some shit! 😊
Awesome Greenhouse. He filled it out well. !
Is it possible to have these collections without green houses? If someone lives in desert environment is it possible to have all this outside? I live in baja sur and want to get started, but I notice all have greenhouses.
Holy heck, You could landscape straight into the ground with whatever you wanted in your climate zone!! Shoot, you probably walk outside and see cacti growing like natural, huh? Do you even get winter in Baja?
I will agree for the most part with Risen there. You certainly could grow these in Baja with very few issues I would imagine - the climate is good the rain is a bit out of season for astros in Baja but I would imagine they may adapt well particularly if you put them into the ground
Que belleza de cactus🇺🇾🌹🌵
Fantastic collection , yeah ! 👌👌👌👌🎉🎉
Thank you! Cheers!✨✨✅
i wish i knew that i would collect ariocarpus 30 years ago. i grew seed mixes and got a bit of everything. only in the past 10 years have i found my main genus of concentration. i am learning a lot about how to grow them well and producing seed. i am just learning how to produce certain traits. focusing on just one genus is a whole lifetime of learning about that plant.
I am growing astrophytum and gymnocalycium from seeds that i have purchased seeds and been growing them about 3 years
I find that growing from seed is the most rewarding part of this entire hobby have any of your seedlings flowered yet?
@@CactusQuest no they’re not big enough yet maybe another year and they will but I have some different looking ones that have grown a baby on top and a lot of variegated ones as I just buy mixed seeds I have found that they are slow growing
wind is a very underestimated element to promoting root development
Yes indeed.
Best pest control for a greenhouse is heat i found.
Ight. Imma need that lil Japanese diddy that played for a min

Have you ever heard of the Echinocereus relictus?
I have not no
Does he have any recommendations for fans in a greenhouse that size? Are there completely solar options?
What is the shade cloth he has on the greenhouse? How does it stay on?
Is there a place to get pumice in riverside ca
In green house exos fan is mandatory?
How often do you water?
hi. I have a question. I grow roomplants. Most of them are succulents. The location is at a northwest window. In theory this is a bad location because of the lagg of light. They get about 4 hours of sunlight during summer and weak light during winter. I try to not fertilize them from oktober till april and only water them 5 to 6 times during this time which actually is a good solution and makes most of them grow ordinary. If some of them do grow long leaves to find light I turn them so they grow evenly and if necessesary cut them. I cant stop watering them completly because temperatures only change about 5 degress celcius in my room over the year which is about 40 degress fahrenheit. I am looking for as succulent that can bloom under these conditions. If anybody has an idea let me know.
Astrophytum myriostigma ssp aztekioides.. aka kikko.
I think you forgot a Y in the title
Is lophopora and astophtum different?
Yes they are - while they make look similar they are infact both in a different genus.
В кадре много дядек, мало кактусов!
Great content! I love the plants from Adam @bakersuccs . This video will help anyone who is growing astrophytum. Thanks for shoring!!!
What's that Instagram I did quite catch it but I would like to make a few purchases
Frankly I do not understand you guys who live in the southern climate, what do you need a greenhous for? Would not just a simple rain protection be enough?
he controls light and pests. i agree that a pergola could be of good use if you don't have freezing temps to deal with. the sun is hard on plants out west and the survivors are found under anything to protect them from it.
