- Yuji Naka, co-creator of Sonic The Hedgehog, has been arrested for insider trading at Square Enix. The news comes after Yuji's various controversies at the company with Balan Wonderworld, a negatively received game that ultimately drove him out of Square Enix. What happens now?
2022 has been a pretty great year for Sonic The Hedgehog. From The Sonic Movie 2 to Sonic Frontiers and even the Netflix series Sonic Prime, fans have been pretty happy! However, the arrest of Yuji Naka leaves a dent in the otherwise positive vibe of the Sonic renaissance.

Yuji Naka is maybe one of the creators who made the world's fastest hedgehog alive, but he's not fast enough to escape from the authorities himself.

He was basically the one who gave the design and all that and left when sonic 06 was created so basically it didn’t affect SEGA or the Sonic Team but this is still pretty shocking

For anybody wondering, Yuji Naka was fired before Balan Wonderworld even came out. Naoto Ohshima, among various other figures like the Human Resources department, had him fired for harming business relationships. Yuji Naka tried suing Square Enix, and publicly denounced the company. Following the firing, Ohshima and Naka had a fallout, with Naka getting really petty and retroactively trying to take credit away from Ohshima on games they had previously collaborated on, even removing Ohshima from older photos. Yuji Naka went on a blocking rampage on Twitter around this time as well.
Yuji was a con man at best

Naoto Ohshima is NOT his friend. Yuji threw him under the bus on several occasions.

SEGA's going to have to completely distance themselves from him in any capacity. He is persona-non-grata from this point on.

I've known about Yuji Naka since I was in Middle school.
And now, knowing that he just got arrested, after we got so much great Sonic news is just really disappointing.
I never thought one of the main creators of my favorite video game character would get arrested... ☹😔

Co-creator actually. He only made the concept and the programing and left sometime during Sonic 06's production l. He's also the guy who ruined Sonic Xtreme because he was playing keep away with his NiGHTS Engine

Honestly it's sad how many L's he's taken since he left SEGA. He had some mid games on the Kinect i think, then Balan, now THIS. Not saying he shouldn't go to jail, he did commit a crime after all, but it's sad because he made some really good games and inspired so many future devs

Overall this won't affect Sonic in the long run..like Yuji hasn't gave a fuck about Sonic since the 2000 and I don't think Sonic team or Sega is going to have a cry party over him.

Well, Yuji Naka has escaped custody by jumping out of a helicopter and sliding down a series of steep city streets by using a piece of debris as a snowboard. The government has deployed their fleet of massive semi trucks to contain this threat.
This is some shocking news because Yuji Naka was a huge part of Sonic’s history. Usually the Japanese side of sonic is squeaky clean and the American side of sonic is messy such as the Ken Penders Archie lawsuit.
But still: Only a minor setback.

Naka has always come across as somewhat ego-centric, not to doubt the man's talents. So I'm not _too_ surprised. Insider trading is very common place afterall, the issue is alot of people that do it don't get caught and get away with it.

Don't be too upset guys, he deserves what happened. Even before Balan Wonderworld was announced Yuji Naka would get in the way of production for various Sonic games such as the infamous (and canceled) Sonic X-treme and straight up *leaving* during the development of Sonic 2006 to start his own company because apparently he was starting to hate the Blue Blur.
If you can manage to slog through the various videos (including this one) reporting on his arrest you'll find videos explaining various and many things you didn't know about him. It's quite the eye opener for those unaware.

Yuji Naka never did any insider trading, instead it was this faker that looks exactly like Yuji Naka, who claims to be the ultimate life form. Yuji getting arrested isn't surprising not because I hate him but because I haven't been hearing good things about him after looking into his history,
I might be the minority but I can thank Yuji for some of Sonic's success... but the not current Sonic.

What an interesting turn of events
To be honest I don’t really care that much for his arrest, especially since people are saying he’s a horrible person. Now I don’t know if that’s actually true, but what I do know is he’s not influencing sonic right now. He might be the co-creator of Sonic but he didn’t get sonic to where he is right now, instead (from what I know) he left, made a game, which failed, and took illegal action just to improve his game.
Could someone inform me what insider trading is and how it's unlawful?
It basically discourages people from participating in markets and such and makes it difficult for companies to get money.
basically, he knew that a company was developing a really big game that would sell a lot of copies and make a lot of money. So, he basically bet money that that company would make a lot of money. That is insider trading and it is illegal.
