No the lack of NY and UK drill features and beats didn’t do justice. Should’ve had guys like Rah Swish, Jay Gwuapo, Sleepy Hallow, Sheff G on the album. They came up with him in the drill scene and hell Gwuapo is literally the reason why he started rapping he deserves a feature over somebody like Tyga 😂😂 Pop was incredible all throughout, and the range and versatility was awesome to see but most features were bad and the aesthetic he fucked with heavy when he was here was ignored. I understand trying to reach a whole new audience and reach new fans but the reason why people fell in love with him and how he made his name when he was alive was left out. Wasn’t enough drill to honor him and the fact there was ZERO NY drill artist is criminal

Big pop fan here. Pop was my favorite artist out 2019-2020 easily. I felt like his flow and style was made for me. Seeing his interviews and how he was raised, it reminded me ALLOT of myself. Even the guys birthday is in the same month as mine. So I can't pretend like I don't have a bias towards pop, seeing as almost like he was the rapper I would've created to make music for myself. Here is my review; Meet the woo 1 I have tons of great memories to those tracks and generally speaking I consider it a 10/10. Meet the woo 2 I think was allot more commercialized and recycle heavy, but still easily an 8/10 from me. Shoot for the stars for me was spotty in some area's but ultimately I think it was a 10/10 for the effort and potential. Gangstas is absolutely a fire song, I love the flow on the second verse, shit snaps. 44 bulldogs too. I even find myself really enjoying Aim for the moon as of lately. Tunnel vision is like my life anthem. Some of the other tracks, while not mentioned, most definitely go over well. I'm not afraid of cursing or being sexual in the slightest, but some of his RNB tracks talking about 'pulling out and nutting on your breast' leave me feeling awkward when heard. I just don't like that. I can hear that in a drill/trap song, but not a love song. Its just too much and too awkward. Some of his RNB tracks do really well though. Some of these songs clearly were made just for features, for album sales, to get more recognition as this was his breakout album. Sometimes you have to sell out a little to get the attention you deserve. I heard allot of people saying that there was no real 'NY drill' on this album, but as his break out album, I am glad he changed it up and didn't just drop drill bangers. Drill bangers are cool, but pop blew up simply for the fact that he stayed AWAY from drill bangers and offered something super unique to them. They're generic. Pop made them not generic. All you hear every song is 'GGRRRRRT, BOW, VIRAL, MOVIE, SMACK A BITCH, GROOVIE". Pop actually made the shit sound like a song and took it mainstream. I definitely didn't want to hear pop carry some generic ass feats on a NY drill song. I mean can we literally bring up the fact that Sosa geek and Fivio are basically twins? That sound is so over-played. Anyways, I love hearing that more spacey-trap autotune flow that he approached this album with, as I am a big fan of gunna, lil uzi, etc as-well, it was a nice edition. With all of that being said, as a massive pop fan, I absolutely love the album and it exceeded expectations, and was laying down the groundwork to really produce something great, and for that, I give it a 10/10. However, being REALISTIC, I do get why fantano gave it a 7/10 (he said light 7, JS). He had great explanations, and I think for pop to get that rating on his break out album, which was primarily made to introduce different sounds and experiment, that's pretty damn good. I mean UZI got a fucking 4, baby a 4, and Gunna got a not good LOL. So, yeah, I love the care and respect, yet transparency and honesty fantano handled this review with. I was kind of dreading it, but I think this made me respect fantano even more with the way he handled it. RIP Pop, you live by the gun you die by the gun. Oh and before anyone says "YOU FORGOT THE SMOKE". I didn't, SMD.
Damn nature u scary 23 I personally like the woo and creature. I think the tyga feature and the dababy feature was unnecessary tho they could of taken those two songs off
Good Dick Man You’ve got to understand that Pop Smoke wasn’t always an artist. He randomly freestyled on a beat and he blew up. He didn’t have a history so what he done within a year is what we have here. Its a really impressive album for the limited tracks they would’ve had.
@@AVERUNS I know right, I hate when someone likes an album that I think is mediocre, the only explanation for this is that they must have not been listening to music for a long time, no other reason
If you watch the review, he just didn’t like some of the features. I will agree with that because I do wish on some songs with features Pop Smoke was on them more than he occasionally was. Other than that this album is really solid. I’d go like a 7-7.5/10 🙏🏽💫
seriously i thought circles was perfect and imo my favorite mac album. I’m glad they gave Pop Smoke a real great album they did X dirty with skins and i was hoping that wouldn’t happen here
I wasn’t going to say anything but making empty threats on someone else’s RUclips channel won’t ever really amount to anything. So just take the review or leave it bro.
Pop Smoke spittin' flames like I'm Smaug Rev my 'rari, opps chokin' on the smog If I see 'em in the phantom, I drop 'em. Clips stormin', in the trunk I lock 'em. 🐲🐲🐲
Damn, Enjoy yourself was probably one of my favorite tracks. Loved the feature. Really told a story throughout the track. Bummed he didn't mention What You Know About Love, was hands down the best song on the album
Fr I heard the leak but it had someone else on it so when I was playin the album I didn’t expect it to be on there so it caught me by surprise when I heard it and even more with the lil Tjay feature I fuck with it heavy . RIP BIG WOO💫
One of the worse for me. When I heard that autotuned ass "MOOD SWINGS' intro by Tjay, I was like RIP. 'I pulled out and nutted on your breast'. In the words of pop, "THAT'S NOT IT". Much love to pop though, I give the album a 10/10 personally, but that song was a weak point to me. To each their own though, glad someone liked it.
@@ViolentMLG I love Tjay and Pop smoke, especially as collaborators but Mood swings was definitely the weakest. Besides the King Combs and Karol G features. Those should've never happened
6:53 The Woo (sadly) really reminds me of Biggie’s Mo Money Mo Problems. Both were released posthumously and have catchy hooks, and both have 3 verses, the first two by featured artists, with the third and shortest verse being the one actually delivered by the artist the song is accredited to.
God bless Anthony, finally someone influential in the scene acknowledging the UK drill influence on NY. It’s been arduous going on about it in comment sections
Why yall want so much acknowledgement when you just took new york influence from rap and chi culture from drill and think you really created something?
@@camquest1 UK Drill sounds nothing like Chicago drill though, like Lil Durk is a fucking singer. If you compare the two genres they're nothing alike aside from violent lyrics.
The Underwaterman I guess you don’t like having fun while listening to music and feeling like you’re the shit. Crazy. I guess I can’t like something that I like 😔
It's really not a bias though. I would pick your review because you have a understanding of the culture and from nyc over someone making a review outside the culture.
Great review but I really enjoyed the tangent at the beginning on regional drill scenes. Would like to see more short genre/artist histories from you, melonboi.
Irrational fans are gonna get mad at this but this is a solid review from Anthony. The honesty is always appreciated and the fair criticisms and score is good
Really touching critique. Really appreciate the way you roast and respect pop smoke at the same time, just as he probably would have wanted, much love melon
A 6?! Cmon now it's an 8 at least. Nearly every song on this album was a banger. Great features like Roddy rich, lil baby, 50 cent. And even had a good dababy feature for once. The instrumentals and bass straight up hit different on those tracks too and the bass goes really well with pops deep vocals. 8 tops
I truly feel like this album is a solid 8/10, they did pop smoke justice on this album, it doesn't seem like a cash grab, it truly seems like an album that pop smoke himself wanted to put out. So a 8/10 is a good rating for it.
I’d personally agree with it though, and I like pop smoke a lot. The lyrics just make you feel uncomfortable, like you walked in on something you weren’t supposed to see. I liked the rest of the songs though
I think ya nailed it. I was honestly if you lopped off a few of the slow cuts this would just be a tight 13 track album with suprise turn that Pop Smoke can acually do some decent love ballads. And I love how you brought out all the context for everyone, you even educated me, a fan. RIP Pop Smoke. So much potential. But his impact remains, just like he desired.
People in Brooklyn, have a unique accent and they’ve had it for tens of years. I know homies there, it’s not imitating the British, it might sound like it but that’s how they grew up speaking💪🏼
I was never a huge fan of Pop Smoke before this album, and I’m not gonna say that I am now. But this album definitely has some great tracks on here. I can’t say that I’m a fan of the love songs, which is a large portion of the “skips” on this album. But overall it’s pretty good imo, 7/10. Favorites: Got it on me, For The Night, The woo, 44 Bulldog, West coast sh*t Least favorites: Enjoy yourself, mood swings, something special, (and the rest of the love songs)
anjo_hn 25 yeah that’s just a problem with posthumous albums if you’re comparing it to other albums it’s a fair comparison even though it’s no ones fault really
I think it’s a fair criticism. Like juice wrld when he passed had some songs in the works but only the more completed songs have been released. Other than Godzilla with em. but I know em made that song because he knew he was juices inspiration and he would’ve been so happy to know that he collab’d with his idol. I understand they can’t help him passing away but when it’s a pop smoke album you expect to hear pop smoke. maybe they should’ve cut a song or two (even though I really enjoy the album and I wouldn’t want them to cut any songs, I just understand the argument to be made so he doesn’t get over shadowed by his features on the album)
This is an honest review, and I love that. I felt like he spoke honestly on what this album is. There are certainly stand out tracks on this album. Even though Pop was very talented, I know that when I first heard this project, there were songs that I didn't like too. I'm just glad this wasn't a red flannel review. And yes, I said pop and forgot the smoke.
RIP to pop smoke💫 But I didn't really like the album probably because I first found him on the meet the woo where hes more aggressive rap which I enjoyed more
Very tastefully done. I'm glad you did not decide against reviewing this record in light of the recent events. Smoke made his art knowing it would be judged.
It just sucks that we lose the artists that were actually unique and had potential. Pop Smoke, X, Juice WRLD were all very different and offered something new. Why couldn’t we have lost a generic auto tune singer rapper instead? I would trade a Lil Baby, Gunna, Lil Tjay, Lil Mosey, Nav, Lil Durk, any one of these filler artists, to get the interesting artists back.
Great opinion Fantano, but you said Pop without saying Smoke multiple times. I’m Going to have to form my own opinion this time

So, yeah, I love the care and respect, yet transparency and honesty fantano handled this review with. I was kind of dreading it, but I think this made me respect fantano even more with the way he handled it.
RIP Pop, you live by the gun you die by the gun.

UNDERRATED COMENT
I think this was one of the best posthumous albums I’ve heard
It was good or decent at best. They could've took off the woo and creatures and it would be better imo
Damn nature u scary 23 I personally like the woo and creature. I think the tyga feature and the dababy feature was unnecessary tho they could of taken those two songs off
Jonny Smith Eh. Your opinion cant get mad at that. Its still decent though. Rip pop smoke
@@jamkick8 nah, any song that is less of the actual artist and more of the feature are straight cash grabs with these posthumous albums.
Good Dick Man You’ve got to understand that Pop Smoke wasn’t always an artist. He randomly freestyled on a beat and he blew up. He didn’t have a history so what he done within a year is what we have here. Its a really impressive album for the limited tracks they would’ve had.
I knew he would give it a 6 or 7 but honestly this album is a solid 9/10 for me
A strong 6 from melon is a realistic 8.5, I was expecting a decent to strong 4 tbh
You must’ve started listening to music last year then
4/10 at best for me
I think it's a good posthumous album but I don't care for it outside of that
@@AVERUNS I know right, I hate when someone likes an album that I think is mediocre, the only explanation for this is that they must have not been listening to music for a long time, no other reason
Pop’s and Juice’s posthumous albums were both great, and it makes me annoyed how bad of a job X’s team did with his posthumous albums.

Saying "never say pop and forget the smoke" for 8 minutes and the giving it a 2/10 is an unacceptable review antwan.
Haha
Saying “wooback baby” for the 5 straight minutes doesn’t really prove that it’s the best album of the year, mr fantano
Just saying "look at the way that I woo" isn't a proper review Anthony.
All I know is that Pop Smoke is far and away the best name of any pop star or rapper out there.

Pop smoke, Scarlxrd, Zillakami, and Trippie Redd are some of my favorite stage names
Andrew DeBough Capital STEEZ, Frank Ocean, and Ab-Soul go hard aff too
Erik Olson did you really just say pop and forget the smoke?
If you watch the review, he just didn’t like some of the features. I will agree with that because I do wish on some songs with features Pop Smoke was on them more than he occasionally was. Other than that this album is really solid. I’d go like a 7-7.5/10 🙏🏽💫
Just saying ”meet the woo” for 10 minutes straight does not make it a proper review Anthony.

The first and posthumous album that shows his cut short potential despite he's not the best newcomer rappers around. Worth of 6/10
He was the best newcomer imo. Had real potential to be a star
Easily the best new comer dude would have been the biggest new generation rapper alive rn
Damn, Enjoy yourself was probably one of my favorite tracks. Loved the feature. Really told a story throughout the track. Bummed he didn't mention What You Know About Love, was hands down the best song on the album
Mood swings is one of my favorite songs on the project ngl
had to redeem his simp points. there’s a few lyrics about a girl having mood swings and he probably got angry about that.
Fr I heard the leak but it had someone else on it so when I was playin the album I didn’t expect it to be on there so it caught me by surprise when I heard it and even more with the lil Tjay feature I fuck with it heavy . RIP BIG WOO💫
There’s too much nutting
One of the worse for me. When I heard that autotuned ass "MOOD SWINGS' intro by Tjay, I was like RIP.
'I pulled out and nutted on your breast'. In the words of pop, "THAT'S NOT IT".
Much love to pop though, I give the album a 10/10 personally, but that song was a weak point to me.
To each their own though, glad someone liked it.
@@ViolentMLG I love Tjay and Pop smoke, especially as collaborators but Mood swings was definitely the weakest. Besides the King Combs and Karol G features. Those should've never happened
for a 6, this was incredibly positive
He seems to be really positive on 6/10 reviews
6/10 is a good score. Usually for albums that are long winded like this he only has so many favorite/likeable tracks which can bring the score down.
It was a strong 6 so it kind of makes sense.
Is it really necessary to call him “Poop Smoke” during the entire review?
You cannot say pop and forget the smoke.
Tristan Halsen u cannot say « poop and forget the wipe »
You cannot say poop and forget the scoop.
I love how this has 12 dislikes and its been up for not even a minute lol
It’s gonna be way more dislikes than that. It’s similar to Mac Miller’s posthumous album.
Legion Vision mac got an 8 tho, which is good
Legion Vision he means that there’s already dislikes when they haven’t even watched a minute of the video
Dev Desai That’s because Mac has his ups and downs over the years. Pop Smoke unfortunately didn’t experience that for long.
Thewitbew That makes no difference. People who watch Anthony’s vids will always do that.
Glad people aren’t bitching in the comments like they did in the Jesus Is King review.

The Underwaterman for some reason I thought music taste was subjective. Crazy niggas still hop online just to criticize someone else
Great review. The statements about Pop having an influence and continuation of older bling era rap was good. I respect your ending score as well.

''His voice sounds like a materialistic representation of smoke'' I think this was the best way anyone has described his unique tone of voice

So a 8/10 is a good rating for it.
a confession to his murder is not a review
Anthony, you can’t just take 4 points off because of Virgil Abloh’s album cover
mood swings being the least favorite track is a fat L
I’d personally agree with it though, and I like pop smoke a lot. The lyrics just make you feel uncomfortable, like you walked in on something you weren’t supposed to see. I liked the rest of the songs though
Browns Fan Since 2017 I personally like the track but the way u described it😭😭😭😭 I lowkey felt that lmao
I really enjoyed this album! I’d give it a strong 7/10, maybe a light 8/10. RIP Smoke 🙏🏻🔥

Cut out some of the songs and use those verses on the remaining songs
anjo_hn 25 yeah that’s just a problem with posthumous albums if you’re comparing it to other albums it’s a fair comparison even though it’s no ones fault really

It just sucks that we lose the artists that were actually unique and had potential. Pop Smoke, X, Juice WRLD were all very different and offered something new. Why couldn’t we have lost a generic auto tune singer rapper instead?
