I was a young colts fan back then loved everything about the Edge. The fact the man lost money on being himself is sick and says a lot more about society. Are we changing yes. But it’s a long way to go and a lot more work to do. That was only 20 years ago.

In case you arent, well .... I cant blame people that would see him in a commercial and think he looks weird, I personally dont usually care about how one looks, but I dont blame anyone that does it too.
And thats why people sell their soul to appease the masses, good on him for sticking to himself and not selling out, its not like he had not got millions in the nfl as well, so he is fine.

Me and my cousins played Rams vs Colts on Madden waaayyyy too much back then.
Man I used to play with the Colts back in the early 2000's. The Edge, Harrison, Wayne, TE-Pollard man them boys was unstoppable. I used to lose with them sometimes because their defense at the time was trash. If Tony Dungey could have gotten to the Colts a lot sooner the Edge would have gotten his ring. I'm glad Edge didn't let the NFL change him like other celebrities, knowing what made him the player he is today.

I'm a East Tennessean so I'm a life long VOL fan & watched Peyton's career from his highschool senior year to his retirement. I said that to say I watched Edge's entire NFL career closely & to me he may be the most patience & smoothest running tailback I've ever seen! I loved to watch him play, he was so talented he made it look easy!!!

Facts, the whole south west golds, I’m in my 40s and seen grandparents in the 80s with golds. With Edge in Indy he was an hour and change from Cincinnati and it’s plenty of good grills there from then to now.
I remember back in the 80s you'd see pimps,players,& hustlers wit two or three gold teeth,maybe gold fronts, two finger rings, some women as well. That style carried over to the 90s dreads as well. I seen this in Ny growing up.Down here in Naptown and Chi its always been prevalent

I feel the same way as I also sport dreads. This is one of the reasons why I will never work a corporate job because I refuse to cut my hair to appease and adhere to someone else’s standards. I notice that I can make just as much, if not more money if I learn a trade or/and start my own business.

It makes perfect sense when you view the NFL as a corporation and not as a sport. The league will always value itself over any individual player, and if you don't look the "right way" in their eyes, they steer away from spotlighting you as much as other players who fit with their standards. They've become more liberal in this regard, but trust and believe they still prefer the clean cut well-spoken types over anyone else.
I was not really a fan of the look back then, but I totally respect the way he explained his decision not to change.

Its very easy for athletes to buck the system because they have their talent as leverage. What about the young ones that look up to him that don't posses the same abilities? They can't bring that street mentality to classrooms, courtrooms and business offices and expect to get the same treatment. In life everyone eventually in some way has to submit to doing what they have to do in order to do what they want to do.
Street mentality? Gold teeth and dreads are an expression, not a mentality. Now if you associate those expressions as a mentality, you are part of the problem. He told both sides, he said being himself cost him millions, what you like him to do? Pretend to be somebody he isn’t? He’s telling the kids there’s consequences, would you like to prepare his speech for the children? Would that make you feel better?
Maybe if we focused those kids on finding their talent to leverage then they wouldn’t have to submit and lose who they are to get further in life.
