As a Space Marine player (Salamander player here), I've learned so much from watching Steve play on Play On. Your guys channel is becoming one of my favorite Space Marine channels. Thank you for the awesome content!
A thunderstrike and a gladiator lancer has been my staple anti-armor and anti-monster since the start of 10th. They've made their points back in every single game.
It’s great to have you all back streaming again. As a Space Marine player, I’m also relieved my dudes Steve’s back in front of the camera. Keep the content coming please. 🙏
Man, I am LOVING the hailstrike. you guys didnt even mention that this just scores secondary points outrageously well. I think its the fastest thing marines have that can move and still action. And the ability is incredible! Pretty cool when your intercessors put a terminator down to his inv. save.
Just started getting into space marines and 40k as a whole and I'm loving these unit reviews and your channel overall. They've really helped my list building and strategies as a whole. Keep up the great work yall. Also Steve is my space marine GOAT!!
The main issue with the thunderstrike comes from needing another unit to use it's bonus to wound while for around the same price you can get a gladiator that will do much more damage on it's own, no allies requiered and will be slightly more durable. The other two are at least cheap enough to be considered compared to other tanks.
Stormspeeders at their current points are very flexible force multipliers on a great chassis. I also like their deep strike ability to make sure it gets angles if my opponent has a faster army Thunder strikes are the ones I use the most because it suddenly makes Redemptors macro plasma a respectable anti tank threat while that gun already is solid against elite infantry so a single thunder strike takes Redemptors from a bit specialized to more all - rounder. +1 to wound is also at the point where vindicators are just casually putting down crisis suits, zoenthrope blocks, and other multi model monsters/vehicle units My next favorite combination is the hail strike with a Fire Discipline Biologis + Aggressors package. The hail strike, along with storm of fire and aggressors close quarter firepower pushes the potential AP to massed AP 3 ignores cover fire with sustained and lethal 5s. The hail strike just needs to plink a shot onto the primary target and use the rest of its guns to clear screens for the aggressors to shoot one thing and charge another
@hyperspacehobbies Also woe to the opponent who faces the "Prometheum and Prometheum Accessories" build: Salamanders Firestorm, Vulkan Hestan+Company Heroes, 1x5 intercessors, Apothecary Biologis with Forged in Battle+6 eradicators, 2x10 infernus marines, a Hail strike and a Thunder strike, and 3 land raider redeemers. Your redeemers flamestorm will be Str 7 and either AP 3 against a block of elite infantry (courtesy of the hail strike) and sending str 10 melta shots into vehicles / monsters with +1 to wound. Vulkan Hestan will select a single unit to receive full wound rerolls from melta and flamers and infernus marines can get the same benefit
Since coming back to the hobby 4,5years ago, I have grown to hate those flight stands with a passion and I now use metal wire and epoxy to make flight stands, so nice to have something that doesn't break when someone in the building next door sneezes.
I like to run a Thunderstrike with two Vindicators for my Champions of Russ Detachment. If necessary those 3 together can pick off anything in the game or the Vindicators kill hordes and the Speeder uses it´s ability to buff Eradicators and small arms, before Ragnar, Ulrik and other angry Marines charge in. Not meta, but fun.
Crazy. I literally bought my first speeder Saturday. Built and painted it Sunday and did the base art yesterday. I had 130 points and thought a hailstrike would be more value for my imperial fists than inceptors for a tournament this month.
They can also deepstrike which gets them where you want them. Pair them with plasma inceptors, the plasmas wound all vehicles on 4’s (re rolling cos rain linked) and the -3 AP 3 damage does work against monsters and vehicles. Also helps meltas to punch up
Quite inexperienced player here, but looking to build out synergies with incursors and storm speeders. Wondering if 2x 5 man teams giving plus 1 to hit and then a storm speeders removing cover or adding AP is a strong combo or too situational? I guess a cheapish option to have up your sleeve tho for that one devastating round. And I assume being so cheap the storm speeders might literally fly under the radar with some players not realising their utility so rather than 1 or 2 rounds of benefit, you can easily get 3 or 4 even if you make a mistake with positioning.
I find with space marines already getting Oath of moment and having a good "to hit" already. the +1 to hit doesn't really move the line in the form of damage increases. But that unit can be uses to move up quick and hold objectives.
X6 Grav centurions with thunder strike support in vangaurd spearhead can pick almost anything in the game up. Vehicles on 2+, bugs on 4+'s with the support. Point roll delete and run away when you get charged
How? Their buff doesn’t affect monsters and vehicles? Put a Russ Behind cover and they’re saving on a 2+ all day. Now if the hail strike didn’t have the restriction, then it would be amazing
Who looks cooler? For Russ!! I'm running a Thunderstrike with 2 Predators in a Ravenwing list with Company of Hunters. Not optimal, I know, but this combo is wicked.
Love the shirt! I've been sitting on my Stormspeeder for the last year, suffering with decision paralysis as to which one to build... Gotta find a way to help my Templars defeat my buddy's Tyranids...
Is he bugs or monsters? That would probably dictate your choice there. Also, if you already have some anti-tank (gladiators), that could skew your decision. If i were to take these, I'd probably take the hailstrike like what Steve suggested, just more all around improvement.
@@Artiifakt While he has Old One-Eye and 2 or 3 Dakka fexes, he's dabbled his list between both of those extremes: OOE/dakka fexes + 3x Flyrants... but also played Deathleaper, 2-3 Lictors, 3x3 VR Leapers, Broodlord+max genestealers. While I have all the rhino-chassis variants, I don't have any of the newer primaris/hover tank versions. No impulsor, repulsor, gladiator, etc. I have one each of the new dreads: redemptor, brutalis, ballistus. Multiple landraiders. My only Gravis unit is 5x heavy intercessors.
If I could give multiple thumbs up, it would happen here first!!! FOR THE WOLFTIME! but ya the +1 to would monsters is pretty nasty Vs Nids, but also so does removing cover....
Nice shirt. Kinda wondered where speeders were at now. I would love to white scars but I have no speeders or bikes or atv so it would be an investment.
Ya, I sorta feel like Firestorm detachment gets the best buffs from these guys, the natural damage increase from there strats and assault on the speeders makes them menacingly quick.
For Dark Angels Ravenwing in the Company of Hunters detachment, a couple big squads of Black Knights one with the Command Squad & one with Grand Master Sammael plus a Darkshroud. Would you include 1 Thunderstrike and 1 Hammerstrike? Or would you double up on one of them? Most of the remaining point will be used on Infiltrators, scouts, Outriders, Combi Lieutenant ect…. So the idea is to make those RBK’s as dangerous as possible before they buy the farm.
I think that depends on your current opponents, If there is lots of Monster/Vehicle spam I would go with the Thunder. But if its more varied then maybe go with the Hammerstrike. I think you can magnetize them so maybe try both and see.
I have a Thunderstrike but I've never used it. I just know that it will be taken down in the first couple of rounds and I'll be irritated that those points could have been spent on something that was more likely to survive. As for the flying stand.... just glue it. That's what I did and it never falls off. :)
First Born Vehicles for the Win... Ironstorm Spearhead Detachment I think would be the best spot for these guys. Imagine a world where you have Predator Destructor shooting against infantry after the Hailstrike Stormspeeder so now it is getting AP-3 on it Autocannons (4/6 Atks, S9, Damage 3), or AP-2 on its Stormbolter. Or going to it lesser brother the Annihilator shooting after the one that gives +1 to wound vs Monsters/Vehicles. You probably make that your Oath Target (so rerolls to Hit are covered) you have S12/S14 Lascannons/Hunter Killer Missile (so chances are high that you naturally wound on your 2+). Then when you use roll damage you get reroll 1s built in because of the Predator, but you still have your Ironstorm reroll if your other damage was low.
If the Space Wolves stayed on Terra as Malcador said to Russ, the loyalists would have had the numbers to defeat Horace, but no. Russ had to seek glory.
I run a storm speeder thunder strike/hell blaster combo in my Stormlance. I have all the infantry killing I want, but it's always tough against vehicles and monsters. The big tough list against mine is the 12 wardog list. So, it's always good to be able to kill 1 or two wardogs a turn. And with the ride like the wind start, the speeder might survive a turn and do it again.
12 wardogs are so difficult to deal with. Even the speeder might be outclassed against such silly walkers. But i would 100% give it a try I can see hell blasters just trashing with +1 to wound vs Wardogs.
First on the shirt. Thumbs down. Beardy cheating Space Wolves! If it was the Angels of Death codex would be a different matter. For the speeders, I agree with Steve that the extra AP against infantry is good. But if you’re building your army list around that, then it’s not 115pts. But 230 or 345. As you will need redundancy for when the enemy see’s what you intend and focuses all fire on the one. A couple of these with Aggressors or Bolt gun Inceptors dropping down could be nasty!
On the topic of blocking lanes - I love the idea, especially with the 14in move. How do you feel about this unit, versus the Ballistus dread? T9 vs T10, W11 vs W12. Losing 6" of move and fly is tough to maneuver, but I think the trade off of the 1 extra toughness really makes it difficult for most generalized "heavy guns" to shoot into the walker. I think they both have their tradeoffs for the specific "lane blocking" usage.
Run both. A thunder strike plus 1-2 Ballistus dismantles vehicles. I nuked an Immolator, a Castigator, and a couple of paragons with this combo in 3 turns.
its hard to argue this one. I think it depends on how you build your list. and what you see being a problem when playing. Do you need tanky ballistus firepower? or Speeder firepower/maneuverability/Army buff? The combo of the Balistus and the Speeder is kind of savage... i like it.
I wish they'd designed it as a light skimmer like the landspeeder instead of flying brick like every Primaris vehicle. They're too expensive for me to buy when I don't like the model, the rules are decent though.
@hyperspacehobbies well it replaces the landspeeder which was built like a light recon and harassment vehicle, but the storm speeder looks more like a flying tank and it just doesn't make visual sense to me in it's intended role. I'd like my speeders to look speedy. The ATV is clearly just someone at GW wanted to make the Batmobile and this is the best they could do.
