Basically what happened is: Cody was one of the co-founders and big draws for AEW when they started. AEW became bigger and bigger and they signed bigger and bigger names, which lead to Cody fading to the background a little. Cody's role became significantly smaller to the point he probably thought "well we can always give WWE another shot, AEW will be fine without me anyways."
Let's not forget, Cody could always return to AEW. He can't lose.
Pretty much. And I mean, it seems fairly amicable as departures go. The statements from Tony, Cody and Brandi were all very warm.
Like... if you really think about it? Wrestling's a pretty small industry. I think that's why a lot of people leaving WWE try to be cordial even if they've got some criticisms - because someday you may need/want to work there again. And vice-versa. If I look at it as someone who wants a job and has two choices, and maybe choice one is no longer as fulfilling as it once was and choice 2 is offering a significantly bigger bag... I mean I can't blame anyone for making that call.
Plus they've got a kid now, and like Kevin Owens, you gotta look after your family too.
I just hope they don't make him be Stardust again... Vince's spiteful streak being what it is I'm not ruling that out.
Also in terms of AEW - this frees up some room on the show in the midcard to showcase talent who maybe aren't getting enough time on TV.
Basically... mutually beneficial breakup I think. And I'm grateful to Cody for helping start AEW; having a second major promotion is a boon to wrestlers and wrestling fans - period, no matter which product you prefer.
They always bitch and complain only to sell out and go back to WWE. Good for him.
@@mistformsquirrel bruh america, England and Australia i reckon about 80% of children watch wrestling and 40% stay watching, and it's massive in Asia, India and Saudi Arabia. It is definitely definitely not a small industry. Any industry that's a billion dollar industry is going alright
@@dubbkenobby6542 I think what they mean is that there are only a few companies to work for. That's technically not true either, but there are only a few companies that you could exclusively work for and provide for your family a decent life (WWE and AEW. Maybe NJPW in Japan and AAA and CMLL in Mexico. Maybe Impact). Not only that, but wrestlers across the world know each other or know of each others. The community of wrestlers is tight knit and in some way could be considered small because everyone's knows each other.
@@mistformsquirrel Wrestling is not at all a small industry! Maybe where you’re at it is, but wwe alone made 1 billion dollars last year. Wrestling as a whole is huge globally. Asia, Mexico, the Middle East are some major wrestling fans. Wrestling is probably the biggest it’s ever been
Adrenaline, in my soul.
Cody's working saudi shows.
Making Triple H get off his feeeeeeeeeet
Haha! 😂 well done
Crowd is here, about to mildly applause
Up the lights, come out in Stardust clothes.......OOOOH NOOOOO!!!!!
Came back here to say this comment is the best of all wrestling related comments. Kudos sir. Kudos.
Vince is going to meet with Cody with a smile and the Stardust suit lol.
I cant wait to see that
🤣
Stardust - The Future 24/7 Title holder!!
The things I’d do to be in that room to see that happen xD
Aha hahaha hahaha haha hilarious
I'm not sure I see Cody getting the WWE push some people seem to expect him to get. Cody doesn't look like Drew McIntyre or Bobby Lashley and that has reliably proven to be the only thing Vince really cares about.
I could see him getting a brief one initially for the sake of cheap pops and a temporary ratings spike, but I doubt it’s a sustained one.
So looking forward to seeing Stardust compete for the US championship
@@CollegeBallYouknow Yeah, they should strike while the iron is hot and put him in a title feud with Lashley at Mania. They have nothing concrete for the WWE title (apart from that rumored title vs title match).
We must also remember that Lashley and McIntyre were both meant to go great heights in the beginning anyway.
Vince wants to crush AEW and wants to take its biggest stars so he will prop cody front and centre to show them what they could have if they jumped ship
I could 100% buy this with Danielson or Jericho who are on relatively good terms with the dub but Cody's an "I'll buy it when I see it" case, I'm not keeping my fingers crossed for a Pillman level working of the audience or anything like that, the whole thing just doesn't sit right with me.
I said the same thing yesterday. Cody and Brandi leaving to focus on other things like their new kid, a TV show maybe, or Cody has talked about politics. I could maybe even see him just wanting to go to another company like ROH, Impact, or maybe back to Japan. But WWE, I can't see it. That's hard to believe.
@@TheRealJohnnyHendo both shows already confirmed, that Cody isn't coming back next season.
WWE has huge political ties on a party that align with Cody's political views
Exactly! I don't see how everyone thinks all of a sudden that he would go to wwe after the way he was treated and the fact that he would lose all the creative control he's had and that he would be a mid carder at best.
@@markheckman2196 his Rhodes to the top just got renewed... what are you talking about
From one side I can see why one man that was considered a founding member and an integral part of a new company wanting out when realizing he is no longer that important there. On the other hand, booking in AEW became a lot better when Tony Khan took control of the bookings. Also there's the part where Cody's relationship got sour with the Bucks and Omega quite a while back resulting in Cody's booking feel like a completely separate thing with the rest of the promotion.
There's a reason a lot of people started using the term "Cody Island" for people feuding with him because for the past year or so it felt like everyone regarding Cody's feuds was isolated from the rest of the company until he was done with them.
The thing that always bugged me about Cody feuds is the story was always about Cody and whoever he was feuding with just felt like an afterthought, don't get me wrong the match es were great, but I didn't always feel like the person feuding with Cody looked better for having been in a program with him.

This is the wildest story of the year, and I thought the Shane at the Rumble stories couldn't be topped... If this ends up being a work, bravo Cody
And its only February haha 😂
I feel like Cody to WWE works for everyone; AEW have just got Keith Lee, Jay White arrives, Moxley returned and Omega will come back at some point they could probably do with someone who’ll demand a lot of screen time leaving. WWE could do with someone coming in to freshen things up and Cody could really do with a mountain of money
I won’t miss Cody or Brandi !! 🤷🏻♂️
I really do not get that. Cody started as a disgruntled and dishonored WWE Superstar into the indies. It worked out great. He even could honor his father's legacy by opposing WWE. I don't unterstand, why he's doing that. Opposing that was the cornerstone of his gimmick. I am not sad, I am not mad - I'm just confused.
They told you why. Money. Man's looking out for his own best interests and I don't blame him. And I think I'm part of the small minority of people that believe Cody can be a main eventer in WWE. Considering he's not only the son of a legend but also because he's more than proved himself since his initial departure.
A lot of people don’t understand
WWE is creatively trash
It’s not a good place to be
Than ask yourself this
With all this known about WWE
than what happened to him in AEW that is causing this?
The negatives are outweighed by the positives if someone who helped make AEW is jumping back to WWE
@@knection1986 This is what I have been saying.
Money and platform. The man has a family and interests outside of wrestling. He can make all the money to set up his family for generations whilst in the place that gets the most eyes and always will do to launch a political career or have more shows or become an actor. It makes sense to the ambitions of the man behind the gimmick.
@@deon_strydom_00 how can u even think WWE won't mistreat him, have you heard the stories of every single man and woman that left WWE or got fired from WWE? Who is Cody that he won't be abused again? It will not work out for him. So yes it's about money and that is that, but his stardom is going to go downhill from here if he really goes there. The same WWE that fired others for having massive contracts? come on man, exactly where are you getting the belief from that he wall be a main eventer. How long before he is jobbed out.
AEW is a different show then when it started. Cody not being able to challnege for the title was good in the early beginnings. We always assumed kenny would be the main guy. But now with new top guys coming in he never thought about taking a backseat to cm punk and bryan danielson. Also I will respect cody less if he goes back. He destroyed the throne and took shots at triple h at every point. Now he going back with his tail tucked between his legs because he sure as shit not going to be a main eventer.
Agreed
dang Dee, you pretty much said it all perfectly. agreed
I doubt he's returning unless he's guaranteed a main event spot and Vince will atleast let him be like Samoa Joe in 2018-19 i.e a guy involved with the world title almost all the time but not really winning it
This could be WWEs major shot again aedub. We signed another companies EVP because it's a terrible place to work.
But either Cody is going to NXT to be destroyed by Breaker and Co.
I never got the impression that he had problems with WWE as a whole, professionally or creatively. The way he and Brandi booked themselves in AEW certainly felt more like WWE than oldschool NWA or whatever other influences on his style Cody claims to follow.
I think he left because he had personal beef with MacMahons, and now that HHH has been kicked upstairs and Shane has been fired, he feels like he's safe to come back.
You can’t help but to feel that Cody did this to himself. He essentially said “ok I don’t need to be in the main event scene or by the top guy”. That not being able to fight for the AEW title stipulation came back to haunt him cause now he’s seen as a mid card for life after trying to escape that from wwe
All he did was promising the fans not to challenge for the aew title if he lost to jericho.
A heel wouldn't keep a promise for his fans, that's an easy storyline to be told imo.
Ironic…
To be completely fair I'd see him as a midcarder when I see Omega, Punk, MJF, Rollins, Reigns, Drew, etc
@@SuperGlitschM As long as Jericho was champion, Cody Rhodes couldn't challenge him again for the AEW Championship. Wasn't that the stipulation?
@@billyc2493 not exactly because if I recall he never specified Jericho as champion and said how he couldn’t challenge for the title even after Jericho lost the title

If Cody's diminishing status with AEW has played a part in his departure, it shows his ego has gotten out of control.
All he had to do was turn heel and he would've instantly been the hottest talent on the roster again. But apparently he "will never turn."
Let's see him try to call his own shots with Vince. That always goes sooo well. 😕
💯
It might be too meta, but 'not turning heel' was Cody's heel gimmick. I don't think he ego got out of control. He might esteem himself as one of the best on AEW and I think he could very well be their third best guy on the roster - next to Punk and Danielson this is something. Cody has a wrestling head, his stuff might not be perfect (like the 'no turn' gimmick), but it always worked. He was also a team player, brought guys like Sami and Darby over from the very beginning - ask FTR how working with The Bucks turned out for them.
Cody jumping ships is a big loss for AEW. In my eyes he was the only one evp I wouldn't let go.
SO he was annoyed about the amount of stars being signed, but will move to a company where only 2 guys matter?
Cody will get a 1 month push and then its back down the card it's career sucide going back there given the stuff he's pulled.
He’ll go all right. He’s trying to make himself a big player like he was trying before when he went to AEW but now the games changed because of all the talent being brought in etc.
Can't wait for cody to become the raining, defending, undisputed wwe 24/7 chaimpion
🤡
☝🏽☝🏽☝🏽☝🏽☝🏽☝🏽
I believe WWE will use Cody in midcard feuds and sell to elevate new wrestlers like how Dolph Ziggler, Chris Jericho did in WWE
But no way WWE is going to use Brandi Rhodes as a wrestler/manager , maybe only the Renee Young's spot for her. So she's not going to be the Stephanie Mcmanon to Cody Rhodes' HHH
I personally do not think Vince would ever put the WWE/Universal title on Cody, I don't see him beating Bobby Lashley, Brock, or Roman
See I just don't agree with this. If you're Cody it makes no sense to leave AEW and go to WWE just to work as a midcarder. I think part of his negotiations would be that he has more creative control over his booking to make sure he's in a comfortable place on the card. He knows he's a valuable performer and has more than proved himself since his initial departure from WWE.
I wonder how the wwe fans will treat Brandi. The last time she was on Dynamite she was getting booed like crazy and Dan Lambert (a heel) was getting cheered
@@mutedmayday WWE cheer's there heels and boos there faces.
@@markheckman2196 yea but Dan Lambert usually gets booed but against Brandi he got cheered
Cody saw himself as a main event player in a company that has recruited well and pushed him further away from that level. I like Cody as a performer so I wish him well wherever he turns up. Brandi can get in the bin though I can’t remember a single good segment she was involved in.
Tell a lie it was decent when Anna Jay choked her out and joined the Dark Order

Cody helped make some of my favorite talents like Darby, Brody, MJF, Jade Cargill, Sammy, etc. Anthony was the one feud where he misread the situation but he definitely was needed. I don't see ONE individual filling his boots the same from a forward company facing position to an in-ring position. It is what it is. Shame.
Vince: Who's Cody Rhodes?
Also Vince: Hey its Stardust! Welcome Back!
I think we see a big swerve and Cody goes to Impact at least temporarily. Bullet Club has been appearing there and that could draw him in.
We know you’ve had a contract for 3 million dollars, creative control and a ton of other shows, but here’s our offer
A ham sandwich
TWO Diet Pepsi’s
And a night at a Marriott of your choosing
Let’s see WWE beat that!
Ahh yess impact gonna pay Cody 15$ per appearance.
It's funny how many people are angry at Cody for making a decision on where he wants to work
Cody signs with Impact, through the magic of the forbidden door, challenges for the AEW title.
IMPACT! and AEW no longer have a working relationship. Which is a letdown. Plenty of missed match-ups.
@@VileSyndicxte They can always reestablish a working arrangement with Impact. They didn't have a working arrangement with NJPW but were still able to secure Jay White. Anything can happen with "the forbidden door"

It'd be a bit silly for Cody to leave AEW, just to pop back up on their TV programs and book him to challenge for the AEW Championship.
Anyhow, yeah, I get your overall point: Anything can happen.
It was a one way beneficiary too. AEW clearly was seen as the dominant of the two. Nobody wants to go AEW to ROH
Vince: Cody, welcome home!

Cody:Vince,I don't think it's a good, idea.
Vince: But, Cody.. It it is such good shiiiiet?

@@WomanVsBooks wait yes
7 months later and now AEW is in turmoil with its backstage drama without Cody Rhodes.
This whole situation just seems off for some reason. It started with him distancing himself from the rest of the Elite backstage. It's almost like he thought of himself as a bigger star than what everyone else saw him as which led to hurt pride and hurt feelings hence why he's leaving now. Vince may give him a prominent role for a little while, but we all know Stardust is coming back eventually. I hope he thinks it's worth it.
Cody is a sellout. Talked all that crap about WWE, HHH, McMahons, and now he is back on his knees, because of money. The crowd booed him because they saw through him. Has had 1 foot out the door for a year or 2. Clearly was talking to WWE during that time too.

What if tony didn’t think Cody was worth big money anymore due to all the big signings.
I think its more like Cody wanted too much money. He has an MASSIVE ego, that you could clearly see in his storylines after he lost the TNT title to Darby
They have a budget if his desire went over budget then TK did the right thing ny letting him go.
@@FloundFahrdienst I think he deserve big money. If it wasn’t for Cody, a lot of talent would be in WWE or in the indi still. Cody built AEW, sacrifice top spots for other wrestler and just wanted to get pay what he deserve.

WWE could careless if he signs with them our not, there not getting lauwers involved for a work.
He's not trolling them if WWE is offering some ridiculous 5 mill contract with guaranteed storyline perks.
WWE wouldn't know what to do with him. They wouldn't put a major belt on him. They wouldn't let him win a feud against any of their top stars.
You were saying?
AEW will be fine without Cody.
I really don't think it will affect a thing... And maybe that's why Cody is leaving.
@@petebreadwards8737 I mean look at his wife a few weeks back, her & Dan Lambert's segment lost over 100k viewers on TV
Cody's next WWE promo will be him rebuilding that chair he smashed.
I'll be honest, I'm going to lose a LOT of respect for Cody if he goes over to WWE. I don't necessarily have anything against the E (Saudi shows aside), but Cody spending the last like 5 years talking about how much he hated working in WWE and how he doesn't need them only to go back to them is going to make him seem like a liar or a greedy person to a lot of people, including myself.
Seems to me that WWE have sat back quietly and let AEW take all of their disgruntled/released talent but now they're ready to fire some shots back. I don't think the shrewd business ethics of the Mcmahon machine can be underestimated. I think Cody Rhodes and Chris Jericho will go back and then they'll make moves for their biggest homegrown stars - Wardlow and Jade Carghill. It's no accident that the WWE have made it public that they're interested in both. As somebody who watches and enjoys the best of both products, it will certainly make for interesting entertainment if they go to battle this year.
Genuinely love getting my news from you guys. It makes wrestling feel fun for me again.
But the "love you, bye" from Tom always makes me feel better about my day so cheers lad
Imagine Cody shows up in NXT 2.0 as an authority figure and continuing what his father initially started years ago.
It's a really odd feeling because I feel as though Cody leaving is like a betrayal. WWE had not changed and they are still the company he and so many were unhappy to be with.
My personal feelings are that Cody just isn't the draw he was 2 or 3 years ago. I don't get excited for programs involving him except when he was putting over new talent. Him not being able to be World Champ really put a glass ceiling on his career in a way.
I'm still not 100% on whether this isn't somewhat of a work. I mean his reality show which is AEW adjacent got picked up for a second season and he's on the Go Big Show. I'm not convinced he is taking a break from AEW to make a triumphant return as a hero or super villain. And until I see him on WWE TV I won't believe otherwise.
I am with you on the odd feeling, makes me wonder if that was the real reason.
Yes, indeed. Maybe even from the begining Cody should've been world champion. I understand, why they let Jericho do it (but I am not convinced, this was a better idea). Cody's TV challenge was great and I enjoyed it very much, but in the last year Cody noticably lost steam.
Tony khans original selling point was he would be the silent backer and let the evps run the show. Now it seems like he is muscling his way into control. Like they pointed to the forbes article. Khan is turning into vince mcmahon.
Rhodes to the top isn't confirmed as having a second season. It was reported but never confirmed by TNT

Cody Rhodes is the hottest free agent right now.
I feel like this signing could be massive for WWE and the perception of wrestlers from AEW to WWE. If Cody joins WWE and is placed in a prominent position straight away and is prolonged for at least 8-12 months then this could turn heads at AEW.
I don’t hold hope that WWE do the right thing but the balls in their court so let’s see how they plan it.
Major heat if Vince names his successor on TV and Cody comes out to take it.
Except he won't be.. they lured him in but within a year Vince will have him Jobbing out to the Miz and clad in Yellow Polkadots like his daddy... or worse back to the Stardust gimmick he loathes.. and as far as Brandi.. look what Vince did with Dustin & Marlaina, Rusev & Lana, Mike & Maria Bennet.. He'll have her cheat on him in the same old heat killing cuckhold angle that's been done to death.
Cody over estimated his worth and devided to gamble for that big WWE money.. He'll learn soon enoigh he crapped out.
@@MaestroJericho Can you imagine, that would definitely “Shake things up”
@@billkincaid6283 Your probably right and I don’t hold much hope but that’s why I said this is an opportunity for WWE to change this perception if they can give Cody a great run. @@HolymanChurch I imagine WWE knows its a way to poach guys like MJF in the future. Who knows maybe Cody opens the Forbidden Door through lol
If that comment from TK about him being the booker and other things is alarming, AEW booking has been terrible for a while now and he needs help from seasoned vets.
AEW fans act like The Church of Scientology when someone trying to leave. Cody is a independent contractor and if AEW are not willing to pay you then take your services else where.
This kind of reminds me when AJ Styles left TNA. It might shock you but it's still business at the end of the day.
Cody largely broke away to pursue his own interests a while back, having falling outs with near enough everyone in AEW, likely because he assumed he would be perpetually top dog within the company, due to being one of the company's founders. That said, the booking that he did was kinda starting to flounder, and he was kinda putting himself at the top too much, so it made sense for Khan to step in.
I can see Vince giving Cody about a month with top billing just to rub it in Khan's face, if he steps into WWE again, before telling him to either resume his former Stardust gimmick or leave (obviously with a no-compete clause attached to it). He is a shadow of his former self.
My god Sam looks sensational in this video!
Cody news is also good I guess, we need Tom's little xylophone back!
Gotta be honest if WWE used him right, this could be absolutely huge. Big emphasis on the IF though. Cody would get me to watch Raw every week, the same way the Tribal Chief gimmick from Roman has made me more interested in SD.
Tony = Young Vince. Eventually, everything that IWC hates about Vince will manifest on Tony one day.
Sam's FF analogy was incredible, fair play
I hope Cody does a Wolf of Wall Street "I ain't f*****g leaving" on dynamite
Damn Sam, you need to get that eye looked at.

--Nietzsche
Can someone explain to me why aew didn't just make Cody a heel? I honestly don't get it.
Dont think he wanted to be heel.
Cody doesn't want to turn heel, he wants to stay babyface. Now if he goes back to WWE, I bet that Vince is gonna make him a heel, from which I believed Cody doesn't want that but it's gonna too late because they force their talent to follow the script and I'm sure he's gonna regret that if that happens
Honestly I'm 50/50 if he's going to WWE or he's not going to WWE. As much as I love seeing him back and win the world title and win some midcard titles and elevate the talent, but I'm not sure if WWE is gonna book him good because this is the same company that books shows even before he left them in 2016 but richer. I had a feeling if Cody goes back to WWE, his beginning of his second run will be good, but then later on they'll find a way to screw it up. Take a look at some wrestlers who came back and haven't been booked well in their second/multiple runs with WWE such as Mickie James, John Morrison, The Hardy Boyz, EC3, and even currently Shelton Benjamin. Now I know some of yall will say Drew & Bobby's second run with WWE is great because they're both WWE champs, but look at how many wrestlers they brought back and haven't booked well in their second/multiple runs with them
Ec3 is rubbish. The Hardy, got title runs. So did Morrison ok it was with the miz. Some of the others didn't get over from the moment they returned.
@@chriscollins550 EC3 was supposed to be the hottest free agent back then because he was world champ with TNA, and a lot of people see him as the next big guy because he's charismatic, even in his TNA days, Hardy Boyz, both won the tag titles the same day they came back, their run is decent until Jeff got injured and Matt was being booked as a singles competitor, bringing back his "Broken," or "Woken," gimmick, had a great feud with Bray Wyatt and won the Andre the Giant Battle Royale, but since then he's barely been booked or used, then being part of an angle with Randy before his contract expire, and then Jeff came back around in the middle of "Broken" Matt Hardy's run, got drafted to SmackDown, won the US title, becoming Grand Slam champ, had decent feuds but then just like Matt was barely booked, drafted back to Raw, start losing matches, chased after the 24/7 title, continue to lose some matches until he walked off his match on a live event, refused to get rehab, then get released. Morrison was brought back and rekindled his friendship with the Miz which is cool, reminded me the old ECW days in the RA Era, won SD tag titles, drafted to Raw with the Miz, but then had to change his gimmick as "Drip Drip" with a foam super soaker water gun, getting "eaten" by zombies, Miz turned on him again which led to nothing cuz Miz was competing in DWTS, ends up losing matches in his singles run, then gets released
@@kaleodoeseverything so they all had good runs up to just leaving. The hardyz was injury problems and Jeff personal problems. Ec3 come on was not that great in TNA to be honest. The day he walk out for the first time in wwe he didn't even get any reaction.
a lot of people online keep screaming about how WWE is going to bury cody to punish him and...it makes no sense at all. WWE is going to treat him like a wrasslin' god to show other AEW guys "see? if you come over here things will be great!" in hopes of luring away more people.
Jack’s beanie is different today. Good on him for being able to afford a second beanie.
Can we appreciate Tom's Rod, Jane and Freddy joke? I could be aging myself with this.
Cody is the new Lilly The Doll with Alexa Bliss
Most Favored Nations (MFN in contracts) exists because often companies would say this is the absolute maximum we can offer you, even though it usually was BS and was just what they were saying for leverage, so MFN basically holds them to that claim so if anyone else ends up getting more, so do the people with MFN. From that perspective I absolutely agree with it and think it is a good thing, I just think it has gotten a bad rep because people don’t understand why people would have that clause. It’s to hold the companies accountable when they say we can’t pay anyone any more than this, and then they end up doing just that.
Important question: Who comes to Raw first: Cody or Veer?
It seems to be Cody
Funny how Cody's last mania was 32 at AT&T stadium and how his first one back will be in the same building
I really hope this is a work. I would love that honestly. I personally don’t believe he will show up in the wwe, I don’t think any amount of money would make him go back. I would only believe it if I actually saw him show up on my tv screen. And I wonder what they would do with him if he does go back. I also wonder if this is not just a work, but possibly a wwe/aew collaboration situation. With all this forbidden door talk these days, would it be possible for Cody to do so with the wwe? It’s a low chance of this actually happening, but aew loves to push the boundaries of real and kayfabe. And the wwe loves their money and they know something like this could bring in the big bucks. So I guess it’s not entirely impossible. I mean especially seeing as to how both companies often mention each other on television, could they go for a modern invasion angle? Who knows? I’m very confused, and a little scared. But above all I’m kinda excited about what’s to come out of this entire thing.
Lmao that final fantasy Cody summon line fucking killed me. Great stuff.
Could we see Cody as the authority figure for the new ROH starting up soon and in the meantime, he goes and joins up with honor no more in impact
No that's never going to happen
These takes are ridiculous. He's not leaving AEW for ROH. He's going WWE with some guaranteed stuff in paper.
@@MaestroJericho exactly
@@MaestroJericho I'm not convinced that he's actually finished with aew at all. This could end up being a work and the reason why I said that he could become the new authority figure for roh is because Tony khan might have purchased ROH and wants to use it as part of an angle so the right thing to do would be to storyline someone's exit from the company so there's an invasion angle possible
Why would he lower his standards and go to ROH. No hate towards ROH but they have nowhere near the audience WWE and AEW have. Cody is not going to some Indy company no one watches anymore. Especially impact, I can take a shit and that shit is more fun to look at than watching impact wrestling. So no Cody is not going to ROH and he’s definitely not going to shitty impact.
They should put him in a title feud with Lashley. Cody w/ Brandi vs Lashley w/ MVP for the WWE Championship at Mania.
a couple of months on, and it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. ever since, I stopped watching AEW simply because I think the fans booing Cody had as much of a role to it as the politics of Tony signing so much talent on better contracts. I never saw 'Rhodes to the top' or whatever his reality show is called, or bothered/minded Cody trying to branch out into 'Hollywood' as it were, good luck to anyone wanting to better themselves in whatever way they can; I just appreciated that it was him, Kenny & the Bucks who reclaimed my love of wrestling again and that he didn't deserve booing. Although from what I have read it was the fans who were doing out of love to not see Cody pigeonhole himself in the ring, it still feels to me as though the fans were complicit in creating a toxic situation. It was those final months of Dynamite watching the fans booing someone who I was grateful for that really leaves that bitter taste I have now over AEW
I still cannot believe that Cody left AEW. Cody and Chris Jericho build AEW. I thought he was the executive vice president. I thought he would always be a part of AEW and would eventually focus less on being a wrestler and focus more on making sure that the company continues to be as successful as it's been for the last 2 years. although I've never been a really huge Cody Rhodes fan I actually did like him a lot in AEW. MJF, Sammy Guevara, and Chris Jericho are my three favorite aew performers but Cody Rhodes was my fourth favorite aew performer, and it breaks my heart to hear that he left. I thought he was happy in AEW since he was finally getting the recognition and the respect that he deserved. I would hate to see him go back to WWE because he never got this respect or the push that he deserved there.
Good for Cody… he left WWE and proved he could do everything that WWE thought he couldn’t. He did it to a point where now WWE is going to give him top dollar to come back. Cody knows what he’s getting into and will be back in AEW at some point in his career.
This aged very very well
Guess Cody Rhodes could always reform his tag team with Drew McIntyre.
If Cody goes back to WWE, it will be a big eff you to AEW.
He'd have to have less brain cells than Benoit to go back to WWE.
Me personally I don't think he's leaving aew I think this is all just a work and he's going to come back as a bad guy
Vince's plan to get rid of aew is working perfectly so far smh
If Cody really does want to move into politics WWE is the place to go.
Yeah, because Saudi money is going to get him all the votes!
We all know he was barely on speaking terms with the other VPs for putting himself front and center and acting like he was the sole founder/boss of AEW. That will surely have factored into this.
Cody thought he was THE guy in and out of the ring, guys like Danielson or Punk coming in who cannot be denied main event status overshadowing him did the rest.
Finally somebody said it! He’ll never be nothing more but a mid carder
Get that superglue and fix my throne b***h. Stop in my office after you are done Stardust.

If Cody thinks he's getting a big push in WWE and will get to have overbooked 30-minute clusterfucks, he is in for a very rude awakening.
Dave Meltzer reported in 2019 that cody had signed a 5 year deal, it just reeks of a work, I hope i'm right, I was really into the story his charachter was in, I just can't watch wwe so if he goes there i hope it works for him, but i'm not going back to wwe until they have a sustained run of not being what they currently are.
Welp, Vince is on a 1 way train to killing my love for wrestling, again.
The Mid-Morning Rider is All Elite.
Cody screwed himself by not challenging for the main title. He really was stale at the end.
Cody had become a midcarder who thought he was Randy Savage... Nope
I still don't know why AEW didn't start as a pitch to NJPW for a North American franchise.
Or, if it did, why NJPW wouldn't accept
If/When Cody returns, I think WWE will take advantage of move and have him on TV for the Short Term. Long Term though, I see Cody and Brandi playing a huge role behind the scenes. Nightmare Factory, KultureCity, and Heels are just a few of the things that really showcase their entrepreneurial capabilities.
Cody is going to debut as a referree in match between Steve Austin and Kevin Owens.
cmon guys, he has been promising something nobody expects characterwise for months and months, and was notably happy with the fact people were cheering and booing and leaned in on it, even delivering one helluva promo about how he created the forbidden door... this is a long term storyline, all of it is a giant work to make him into the "cerebral assassin" of AEW, and surpass HHH as professional wrestling's greatest heel. This is all a slow burn, and im not entirely sure about it, but jesus that looks like Cody in the Find Me vignette produced by Bray
having Cody appear in the final minute of the final Smackdown before Wrestlemania to announce he's going to challenge the winner of Roman vs Brock would be a huge moment imho
If he goes back to WWE after Stardust, he is as thick as a Russian Gulag wall
He was on AEW unrestricted last week, either he did that to promote AEW’s outreach program before he was gone or it’s a work, the longer it lasts though WWE wouldn’t help them sell a story
I'm still sceptical he is actually going anywhere since he was reality TV shows and good positions in the company. I'm hoping this is a good old fashioned work where social media and leaks can't ruin the payoff. I'll believe it when I see it but right now, I have no idea what is going on and I kind of like that.
They both announced Cody won't be back next season, this is not a work, this was seen a yr ago
Cody only wanted 1 thing in life, and that was for Vince McMahon to love him.
😎
For biggest impact, they gotta
Bring him back ASAP; but I guess
They will wait till Raw after mania!
Tony Khan is probably a little disappointed, but life goes on in AEW and guy still has a full roster of talent that need to be used, so there honestly shouldn't be too much worry on his end on about Cody going somewhere else. The goal for TK at this point, focus on the future of AEW.
If he goes back to WWE, after everything he said in the build up to AEW, his debut in AEW with the sledgehammer, and everything since, I will lose some respect for him. WWE will treat him like they did before he left, just with more money and perhaps thats all it was about after all.
I couldn't behave said it any better
Idk what to make of it anymore but I'll be watching Dynamite. Lee Moriarity vs Danielson sounds like a banger to me.
Love the Final Fantasy reference by Sam. Interested if Cody will have more of a role than just an on screen talent or if he will have more creative control
They might regret this. Probably four of the top 10 matches so far in AEW had Cody in them. He set himself on fire for the company. He broke his foot moonsaulting off a cage. The ladder match with Sammy was one of the top 5 matches on AEW this year. Never understood the mark reaction to him with crowds booing him. (But then I don't get the reaction to people like Hook either, who is good but gets over like some kind of superstar when he's kinda boring to watch.) AEW crowds can be weird.
Could you imagine if Cody shows up in Saudi Arabia this weekend. That would be insane.
I could see it. It's all really sudden where he'd start a fued to lead to Mania at any time now
I still think this is a work. And they're working us by not working us. Like short-term not a work with long-time plans to work us more than we've ever been worked in our lives.
All that talk of (and I'm paraphrasing here), "we're going to be doing some things that have never been done before" and "we're just getting started" and "you're in for a rollercoaster ride".
More eyes on Cody means more eyes on AEW across the board. Let's say it is LEGIT about money right now, the biggest way to get more money for AEW is to get more eyes ON AEW. and this is such a good way of doing that. Also get's Cody more money and frees up time for more AEW stars to shine and make a name for themselves.
If Vince pushes Cody to high heaven, that proves that he was wrong to not see anything in him in the past, and it shows that the AEW product is of equal or greater quality than the WWE (financials aside).
And the bigger Cody gets made in WWE, the bigger he'll be when he comes back to AEW, which is almost a guarantee.
This is a long-term game. Vince doesn't know what he's doing 5 minutes from now, and Tony is planning years ahead.
I can't wait to come back to this months/years from now and either be right or be the biggest fucking wanker mark on the planet.
THIS IS SUCH A FUCKING AMAZING TIME IN WRESTLING!!!!!!!!! Bask in it's glory.
What a fucking great Rod, Jane and Freddie reference
It’s a work
