  • Jake E Lee joins the program for a wide ranging conversation that covers everything from Ozzy wanting to write songs at 3:00 in the morning, Phil Soussan conspiring against him, not bonding with Ozzy, the Badlands manager trying to blackmail him, how he found out Ray Gillan was sick, the modern way of recording an album, Red Dragon Cartels latest record Patina and SOOOOO much more. Just in time for the Holidays, Jake is the gift that just keeps on giving. A fascinating and at times absurd conversation. You may want to relieve yourself before listening. This one is long. Enjoy.

    Jake was my favorite Ozzy Guitar player. Loved Randy also. Just Jake was soo cool on stage and his style was so unique.

      Randy was a pioneer and had epic talent but his legacy has been enormously enhanced by his premature and untimely demise. It happens.

    I always appreciated the fact that Jake never used a whammy bar. He never gets the credit he deserves especially as a rhythm player. Anyone who has learned Jake E’s songs should be able to attest to that.
    Badlands was great! I loved both albums and wish I could get my hands on them again. I had tapes and all of those are long gone.

    I always loved Jake's playing but, after hearing this interveiw, what a solid dude. Ans Bark at the moon solo is the best solo in any ozzy song.

    What a weird world were a guy from Hee Haw is considered the greatest guitarist in the world, which he was. Jake is not the only one who has mentioned the great Roy Clark.

      Roy Clark is considered to be one of the greatest guitarists in history. Very impressed and shocked that Jake gave Roy Clack his respect. Great example of Jake's class and respect as a human being.

      Agree, Zakk is annoying with pinch harmonics, I saw Jake with ozzy in the 80s, ultimate sin tour, Jake was brilliant

      One trick pony?
      Everyone in this comment is the epitome of what a loser is.
      You guys ears work ok? Zakk’s fluidity through alternate picked scales and arpeggios is about as clean, precise and ferociously fast as anyone. Along with string skipping, through impossible pentatonic runs that make Eric Johnson look slow and boring. Hybrid picking in a metal context had never been done before Zakk either.
      It so weird how bad you missed all of that
      Your analysis is about as annoying as what you are trying to describe, kind of focusing on one thing. He does use a fast wide vibrato, and many pinched notes. That was intentional and by design, Ozzy told Zakk to lean into that as he felt it complimented Ozzy and it would help Zakk stand out.
      You haven’t listened to Zakk very much if this is all you got.
      Unfortunately, glue sniffing inbred trailer trash ass wipes on the internet can’t seem to process anything high resolution.

    Jake E Lee has always been my favorite Ozzy Osbourne guitar player. My oldest sister had got me Bark At The Moon album on cassette tape back in 1987 when I was nine years old. It is the first Ozzy album I ever listened to and it changed my life. It is still one of my all time favorite albums ever. Jake's guitar playing is so phenomenal on Bark At The Moon and everything else he has ever done including Badlands, solo, and Red Dragon Cartel. I have always wished that Ozzy's last studio album would be with Jake E Lee because I think that it would be amazing. I would love to have seen Jake E Lee with Ozzy on tour at least one time, but it was not meant to be I guess. Jake is also a cool guy, and extremely honest.

  • @riniones

    Jake E. Lee is the best guitar player Ozzy had ... I know, I know, Randy... OK, I like Jake better. His rhythm stuff, he's refined and raw at the same time... and he's still playing great and coming up with great riffs and songs. All the best to him

    • @fistoftulkas7335
      @fistoftulkas7335 5 лет назад

      You're absolutely right, Jake was by far the best Ozzy ever had, he was the complete package... His riffs are legendary, so clever and complicated but always so musical, and if watch his live performances, like the famous one in 1984, he's just insane, never saw anyone playing like him ever again, with that much flash, command and coolness all togheter...
      Randy Rhoads was great, but overrated due to his unfortunate death, Jake was/is the master, and the new RDC's album Patina is amazing...

    • @Iheartdgd
      @Iheartdgd 5 лет назад +4

      Jake is a great player no doubt, but that’s a stretch, of course he still coming up with great riffs and song, and randy isn’t. Randy is dead. If randy hadn’t of passed he would’ve continued improving and writing as well. Randy was a far more fluent player than Jake during their time with Ozzy(over 30 years ago)

    • @riniones
      @riniones 5 лет назад +4

      it's more a matter of taste... I am not into the "classical" influences Randy brought to the table; I prefer Jake's rhythm approach, "funkier" if you will

    • @Iheartdgd
      @Iheartdgd 5 лет назад +3

      riniones sure, I can respect that, of course it subjective. Because I do appreciate Randy’s classical influences. But I understand where you’re coming from because that’s why I like jake so much too. I love metal and rock but I also am a big fan of blues and jazz

    • @fistoftulkas7335
      @fistoftulkas7335 5 лет назад +3

      If a comparison is made it's strictly between their times in Ozzy, not what Jake did with Badlands, solo or today with Red Dragon Cartel... And if it's strictly playing guitar Jake is far superior, better and more intricate riffs and solos, much better vibrato and bending, faster, cleaner...
      Just watch Jake playing live with Ozzy, Randy can't touch that stuff technically... Then of course they have different styles, people may prefer Rhoads songwriting and compositions over Jake, and that's perfectly fine... I myself love Diary Of A Madman, Randy was very good...

      About the things leading to Jake being fired, here's what Phil Soussan wrote to me when I was wondering about it under his own Secret Loser bass video on his channel (I think YT won't let me post the screenshot of it). I'm posting this so there would be some comment of his about it in connection to this interview with Jake.
      Me: I wonder is it true that Phil was contributing in getting Jake fired, while Jake had twice convinced Ozzy to keep Phil in the band when Ozzy (or Sharon?) had such such sentiments on tour.
      Phil:
      No, that is not true at all; after all, nobody has control over Sharon LOL! One day Jake just stopped showing up for writing rehearsals, and after two months they fired him - simple as that. He was a phenomenal guitarist, and an important part of Ozzy's band and we were sorry to see it happen. It actually left us wondering how on earth we were going to continue without him? To your first part, that is nonsense - why would they have wanted me out of the band on tour?? ...we were totally killing it and selling out and after the success of "Shot.." they wanted me to write the next record. That band kicked ass if you saw us! Eventually though I was to quit the band over not being able to make the right deal for the following album. Perhaps certain people might have a reason to re-write history.

    It may have been prudent to do that reunion with Ozzy in 2008 and get them excited for the new record, then start negotiating on getting the Bark at the Moon stuff once you get some momentum and leverage as part of the new writing deal. But easy for me to say.

He was the guy all of us older players knew was truly original and had amazing ideas and always pricked up our ears whenever a new album and tour was released.🎸
