Mrs. Aziz Begum of Passu: A marvelous & creative Woman of Hunza Valley with incredible Wakhi Poetry

Mrs. Aziz Begum daughter of Akhun Bai and wife of Behram Baig is in her 80 plus. She has an interesting personality embedded in her enriched life experiences she has acquired out of the serious challenges , coping strategies and success stories in different realms. In the previous video published in March this year (2023), some of her life stories were presented in Wakhi in addition to the important indigenous knowledge on ethnobotanical context, healing and medication.
Her talent doesn’t end up there but rather Mrs. Aziz Begum is one of the marvelous and outstanding persons in line with her share in the oral Wakhi literature and her poetry composition. Her poetries reflect not only the bitter realities and pains she has gone through herself but rather provides us an opportunity to focus and look at the glimpts of injustices of Hunza society in different ways, especially in gender context. I therefore salute Mrs. Aziz Begum for her creative work and contribution to Wakhi literature who is exceptional among her batch fellows and age mates in this regard. There may be some critics of her regarding the contents but I must say in creative contributions, it doesn’t count much. She has continued and significantly added in the tradition of oral literatures in various ways despite the fact she is apparently a non-literate with valuable literary role to her language and culture.

Voch Aziz Begim is a great lady of village Passu. She spent her entire life as a loving mother, lady volunteer, the frst Dayee (Nurse) serving the local community until her retirement from the goverment health department at the age of 60 years.
As her life partner passed away at a very early age and she brought up all her seven children supporting their education. She is the only lady from village Passu who visited Canada and USA twice. She has great memory even at the age of 87 years. She stands out because of her vast experiences and exposure to boh the Eastern and Western life styles. Salyute to this great mother....❤❤❤
