It's a real talent to still shine and perform perfectly when your pianist sounds like he got the music sheet upside down.
Dan McGlaun I don’t think it’s the fault of the pianist as well. It’s just that there is no space for an actual orchestra to perform here. The pianist is trying to replicate all the relevant sounds for the piece, including the supposed sounds of violins and other instruments. We’re just not used to it, that’s why it sounds odd.
The pianist is probably sight reading. Cut him a break

Back when Miss Saigon was on Broadway in first run I flew to NYC from Chicago to see her. Being blown away I got a single ticket for the next evening's performance. I saw it again when the show stopped in Chicago probably with a new Kym. In all, I saw the show 7 times. Needless to say I absolutely adored her and the show.
Never a time i get bored listening to Lea... 😁

It's not fault of the actual pianist, you realize.... that's the written arrangement. The piano as an instrument just isn't the right match here, but it likely wasn't feasible to bring in an orchestral accompaniment for this event.
