    I love how you give constructive criticism of the things you didn't like as much instead of taking the low road and trashing it. All the time I lived in Houston, I never got to Seiwa! Next time I go back there, I'll hit up my one friend who lives out there to take me there. H-Mart is one of my favorite places to be, but I'm always up to trying something new. Good show as always, Mike!

      That's basically every grocery store in the US - and it's just 1 side of the aisle. You have to go to either the local asian markets or an international food market to get all the good imported stuff.

    • @LongbranchOlivetti
      @LongbranchOlivetti 2 года назад +10

      At the risk of being tedious, the majority of things in British supermarkets were not invented in Britain. We have isles full of rice, pasta, pizza, pastries, all of which aren't British. We then have counters full of cheese, most of which aren't British, fish, a lot of which wasn't caught in British waters. Our supermarkets are full of a plethora of "international" food. Maybe you're just not looking hard enough.

    • @BodgeupsAirsoft
      @BodgeupsAirsoft 2 года назад +40

      @@LongbranchOlivetti yeh fair comment, but in my opinion it's all "normalised". And everything is specifically made with UK labels, UK nutritional info, UK considered branding etc. I enjoy looking at "genuine" international food items because I'm not the target market, if that makes sense?

    You gotta get an air fryer Mikey. Heating up take home foods or breaded grocery items.... it makes such a big difference. No more soggy takeout katsu.

    I do my monthly grocery shopping at that H-mart.
    The one thing Katy Asia Town is missing is a shop that sells sugarcane juice. The first and last time I had that was in Coco Sweets on Bellaire.

    That’s my HMART in Katy, TX! You missed the bakery at the front , love the sausage and egg pastry and the milk bread is amazing. I’ve been eyeing the chicken katsu but I’ll def try it now that you mentioned the curry is has a kick . I love all things spicy lol. Also try the Phat eatery Malaysian restaurant very close to the hmart. Everything there is delicious but I live for their beef rendang , mee goreng, and the roti is buttery goodness.

    It’s rad to see you go to places I go to here in Houston, especially in this episode. You should also go by Daido Market. It’s the Japanese grocery store we have had for like 40 years. ( it was originally Nippon Daido ) Seiwa opened here in Houston in 2017 or 2018 if I remember right.

    • @Markkzilla
      @Markkzilla 2 года назад +1

      @@Grim67894 Nah it’s open still, different owner and younger owner and it’s just Daido Market. Some people in the Japanese community didn’t want to see it go so some investors came in to help keep it going.

    “Wafū” is the Sino-Japanese pronunciation of 和風
    So I’m guessing they mean “Japanese-style” dressing

    • @vaffangool9196
      @vaffangool9196 2 года назад

      *和風ドレッシング* is just vegetable oil, soy sauce and rice vinegar, sometimes grated onion. It seems like foreigners can't help but kick it up with a dab of wasabI, which honestly I don't hate-I've always put a bunch of grated ginger in mine. Speaking of Sino-, if you put sesame oil in there it becomes 中華ドレッシング (chūka dressing, without the 風) .
      *EDIT:* That's another subtlety that foreigners miss-it doesn't become 中華風ドレッシング (chūka-fū dressing), but a salad dressed with 中華ドレッシング _does_ become 中華風サラダ (chūka-fū salad).

    Seiwa on Dairy Ashford is great. Next time your over there go to Mexico’s Deli and Julie’s cafe, both on the same part of Dairy Ashford. Mexico’s deli has great tortas and you will never find a better croissant than at Julie’s. Thank you for the H-Town love.
