Windows ink is the worst tablet experience ever! Thanks for the video.
I was facing a similar problem. I have 2 tablets, xp-pen Deco pro medium and Huion RTP-700, so here's the... I had the same pressure problems when I had used 2 drivers (Huion and xp-pen) I uninstalled the drivers and installed only 1 driver and everything (pressure) worked as before with "use windows ink - off" and PSUserconfig file.
In general, only one driver should be used in the system. If you test other tablets, you need to remove your driver and install the driver of the tablet you are testing, and repeat this process whenever you connect another tablet))))
I just wanted to use 2 different tablets at once on weekdays Huion and on weekends Xp-pen - but it turned out that this is a tambourine dance and every time you need to reinstall the drivers again(((((
My English is not very good, I think you got the idea why the pressure with "windows ink-off" and PSUserconfig file didn't work.
For some reason I didn't think about conflict between drivers. I had cintiq drivers and intuos drivers working simultaneously with no problem. But that's a single brand. I didn't think about introducing a new brand into the equation, like XP-Pen.
So thank you very much for letting us know about this. It makes a lot of sense. I should have uninstalled my current drivers before testing the new tablet.
Again, I really appreciate you sharing this advice!!!
I know this has been a year, but I love you, u saved me, I was hopeless before this video
Way too kind! Thank you a lot. I am really glad it helped you :)
Thanks a lot for your comment!
yeah.... ive got the same problem....
it feels like my pen got a chain that binds me up, the windows ink is very annoying......
Thank you for showing this fix!!!! I am having the same issue and it's so annoying
I'm glad it helped! Indeed it's really annoying...
Devs: Nobody wants this feature, why are we coding this feature?
Management: The CEO requested it.
LOL for real!!
Dude, thank you so much! I have a Huion Kamvas Pro 24 that started doing some really weird things. I use it as a second monitor, as well as a drawing monitor and the mouse, keeps trying to go over to it. None of the videos on youtube are actually a fix for it. I was getting frustrated and your video just happened to come on. It was the settings in Windows Ink that had everything acting up.
I'm glad to hear that man! That's a nice tablet and it's so annoying to see these settings get in our way... Glad you fixed it :D
Thankyouuuuuuuuuuuuuu! you are angel Gabriel. I had the same problem with Cintique 32 and Windows 11, the file was not there, so I wrote and saved it according to your instructions. I came across your video by accident, I think you need to change the title, like, How to fix wacom pen problem in Photoshop. A lot of people will be happy. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for your comment! I didn't know this video was going to reach so many of you, let alone be helpful. I am so glad to hear that. Means a lot. Thank you.
Good Explanation. It's sad that a new API doesn't bring any benefit. Although wintab is not perfect but Windows Ink just make everything worse because many apps need to support both of them.
7:40 - Have you tried changing that cofig file from 1 to 2? I noticed that the notes said setting to 1 is to use WinTab, which is a different pen driver/system. Maybe if that's causing the issue? Maybe you set it to 2 it will enable Windows Ink instead and eliminate the conflict. I just got a UGEE tablet and have been doing a lot of research to fine tune it for Gimp and I noticed several brands and programs had options to choose between Wintab and Windows Ink, so maybe that's an option. 0 is typically off so, maybe 2? Worse case scenario you just change it back.
Never crossed my mind since I assumed it was some informatic language with 0 and 1. Thank you for suggesting it! I will try that if the problem comes up again. Thank you!
that aint a fix. The thing is that pen tablets had for many years api made by wacom/microsoft called wintab (technicaly how your Stylus reacts in system). Somewhere around windows 8, microsoft decided to introduce their api called Windows Ink ( technicaly how your Touch and Stylus react in system). For some time we had two different Api and was causing conflicts in many apps. Thats why you can turn off windows ink and pen works as mouse (without pen presure). But you can also force wacoms wintab like this command in photoshop.
Well it fixed it for me. Thank you a lot for the detailed explanation on how and why that works. I'm always curious about these things so I appreciate your comment!
You need windows ink OFF for most 3D applications, but mostly ON in 2D apps like photoshop.
Didn't know that. Thank you!
7:20 someone please tell me there is a way to do this for krita, i dont have photo shop and this is the exact thing i need to fix but idk how to do it with krita
I don't know how Krita works in terms of installation folders and where files are stored but I imagine it must be similar, just like any installed program on windows. I hope you find a solution!
Thank you, you saved me ❤❤
🤗🙏
Does someone know how to disable it on Windows 11???
heyo great video! i have a very similar issue, but uninstulling all drivers and re-installing dosen't work, and the XP-PEN tecnical support washed their hands. idk what to do
Sorry to hear that man... I hate those situations where you have exhausted every possible option and only the worst is left to try (like formatting the pc, reinstalling the OS, etc.)
I truly hope you manage to fix it. It could be too many things. We overlook simple stuff like photoshop versions, driver versions (I had to find old wacom drivers to make it work once).
tried this psuserconfig trick but i have some issues like wobbly brush stroke but when i used the windows ink on using wacom tablet properties the wobbly lines disappear
I've always assumed the wobbly lines had to do with tablet resolution. I noticed it on my Cintiq first, when drawing on a physically small area. Let's say you zoom out a lot until the whole canvas looks like an inch wide on your screen. Then draw a line across it. Zoom in, boom, super wobbly lines. I don't know exactly what does this but I assume it's simply the mechanical limitations. Perhaps this is different from what you mean, but if windows ink fixes that for you, go with it. The problem only bothers me when it slows down my workflow or annoys me with lag in the most subtle little actions. They all add up.
they took the settings save out of the software, because of a bug? And never put it back. I may have to try this. But with mine, the lag comes from the wacom and the mouse. Its better when the openGL is on basic, but I still see a sort of square forming when I draw, and the stamp slows a lot. There must be a solution. I just rebuilt my machine it should handle all of this. Though it didn't recognize my video card which was weird, had to find an opengl32.dll file that had the stuff in it. Gallium 0.4? Still looking for the latest version.
It's the worst when these extra steps are needed for the tool to work. Especially when your case feels uncommon and you can't find equivalent cases online... In most cases it's not a hardware issue, but rather a bunch of driver complications. Compatibility stuff. They better put that "save settings" button back. With you the best mike. Thanks for your comment.
I like your content. You're doing really good. One suggestion I have and it might be personal but I really don't feel like watching 18 min long video on windows ink. If you could try to complete these type of videos in 5-6 min which I think is possible. Looking forward to see your channel grow.
You are definitely right. This is NOT the video to spend that much time on. I will keep this type of content shorter next time. There are occasions where longer duration helps the content, but like you said, not in this case. So thank you so much for your feedback and kind words of encouragement. Means a lot!

You sir... are a hero. Thank you. Godddamn windows ink
Too kind! I appreciate it. I'm glad it helped you!
Thank you! I was worried I'd have to return my new tablet.
So glad it helped you!
thank you
Yay!
bro my old computer was straight up DOGSHIT and i had no problems with my tablet and adobe CS6 suite. now I pay monthly for the newest photoshop and paid for a massive upgrade, miles ahead of my old pc- and i have crazy unusable lag. But if i use microsoft paint, i get zero lag. wtf is going on with photoshop? its like a several second lag, or it doesnt even render until i lift the pen!
CS6 was the shit. Golden age vibes. Using CC2017 never gave me a single problem, until I started using the recent versions... Plagued with weird little bugs that are so annoying. I don't understand how people got used to this. I know the lag you talk about, it's insane... New Hardware + Old Software seems to be the good combo lol
My problem is using commands with the real keyboard, the freaking screen touch keyboard appears, anyone happenns?
F*CK! I don't think anyone likes those virtual keyboards hovering around on your screen, especially when they pop up like that.
Sorry to hear this. I am not sure I understand exactly what device you are using, but I can definitely relate to it since it brings back some memories of my Cintiq 27" Touch...
Thanks for your comment!
I think they fixed the issue that messes with the experience of using the pen pressure. Because I recently started to use a drawing tablet and I don't use Windows Ink and I can use the pen pressure.
i use xp pen and it doesnt seem to be fixed
@pry4112 That's really strange... I'm using XP Pen too, model Deco 01 v2, and using Windows 11 latest version. Is your Windows, Driver/Pentablet software updated?
@@BobKTechs same model.. Does pressure work on all softwares?
@pry4112 I'm using it on Krita and it's working perfectly fine even with the Windows Ink turned off
@pry4112 what software are you trying to use?
Not work correctly in my photoshop😢 when i press my pen starts from another place . Any suggestion? I tested in 2023 2022 2021 2020 and still have bug
I have recently tried again with Wacom Intuos 5, the most recent drivers and the most recent photoshop. At first, photoshop didn't recognize the tablet... I could only use the mouse. I reinstalled the drivers and it works well now, but windows ink must remain active. This is one of those moments where you are afraid to touch anything else in case it breaks it again...
So maybe you can try reinstalling the drivers, or even trying different driver versions (if you are using wacom, just go to their website).

Here you can find more info on that file we mention against windows ink issues.
Thanks Adrian ❤
For those who wondering if this actually works?.
Yes it worked for me
.
But Unfortunately if you using 2 tablets like me, you have deleted one of them, because I've already did that photoshop file thing with two tablets on and it didn't work.
.
And F windows Ink.
It gets infinitely complex and unique in each individual case... Insane. How can they make such a simple process so complicated? xD All we need is an OS, a program, and a tablet to perform correctly. Yet somehow these people always manage to make it worse each time...
I used a cintiq and an intuos simultaneously.
No problem.
When I introduced another brand (XP-Pen), it came with a nice side dish of problems.
The flavour spilled across all the system and you end up having to make this mess installing and uninstalling, googling everything with few answers (because of your rare case). What a mess...
I am glad you managed to fix it!
Thanks a lot for your comment!
I loved using windows ink because I could simply drag any website Omnidirectionallly. But downfall was that my pen pressure was bugged.
Now I gotta use this outdated ass scroll bar UI button.
Or sometimes I use my wheel on my kd/200 pen tablet
I feel you. Also if your tablet has touch feature you could scroll with finger gestures. Works in my case with Wacom Intuos 5-M (2012) and windows ink disabled.
But I have honestly become much more used to simply switch to the mouse and limit the tablet usage strictly to artistic processes rather than browsing and stuff.
So if there's no touch feature on the tablet, it's fine too. If you have enough space on your desk to house the tablet AND the mouse next to it, do it.
It's like that meme with switching weapons: "And remember, switching to your mouse wheel is faster than struggling to scroll using the stylus." xD
@@AdrianVirlan lol, I honestly haven’t used a mouse since 2017, the stylus is just point and click and most of my searching is speech type. I have seen them crazy keyboards which are 10 buttons and they are like hand shape keyboards and all those 10 buttons make all possible keys in an average keyboard. I was thinking of getting to know that product. It basically speeds up your typing by 60%
@@_casg YES!!! I've seen those too! And that concept blew my mind xD No matter how intimidating it looks, I'm sure it's one of those things you get used to much faster than you think. I will have to try it at some point :D
You video is crazy but very useful
Thank you
If you have problems with the wacom drivers try to down grade to 6.3.32-4, that fixed all of my problems . The problem that i had:
-random wacom driver crashes
-random lags
-had to reopen my PS files to make things work again
-wacom wont remember my setting for tablet, pen, and programs and resets every time i power on my PC
-cant save setting for backup
-cant load the back up
Did you ever tried in mac ?
No, never.
Just a terrible piece of software. Why does it have to tell me when I'm pressing any of the modifier keys; I already know I'm pressing it, my finger is pressing down on the key!
I really feel you, for real. Those visual cues bother me as well. They might be helpful for people who are teaching and recording tutorials, but even then, theres programs much better at doing that specific job...
Thanks a lot for your comment.
thats a windows ink feature
so the only way to make this bullshit work, we turn off windows ink, have no lag but lose all pressure? i like having pressure, thats what we pay for
Yeah that's it. Then we regain the pressure editing that text file while keeping windows ink off.
@@AdrianVirlan thank you bro, will see what i can do. my edited file is already at 0 and turning windows ink off does nothing really. Huion told me to tun off all logitech software, that doesnt work either. But if i use MS paint like a dumbass, it works. So my plan is to use MS paint and then use a mouse in photoshop to try and fix it? thats so fucking ghetto man
@@FutureLaugh Damnnn... Yeah doesn't sound optimal. I don't know about any other brand since I use wacom. But don't get me wrong, the newest wacom tablets are following the software degradation equivalent we discussed, so I went and purchased an old model (2012), second hand wacom tablet because of how reluctant I am about the quality on the brand new ones nowadays...
This market is getting worse instead of improving. Products are devolving rather than evolving. Hardware, software, most of them are moving backwards.
Two hours of Bla bla bla bla... then in the moment of edit the system settings file, you just zoom everything, omit the full route to the file, do not mention it or show it for more than 1/2 second, and say bUM, 15 wasted minutes about what is not, and 3 sec of this was, bye end of the video,
?????
Wtf...
Bro... wtf are you smoking 🚬????
Huh?
