      @andyhawes5866 Год назад +1

      @@saulocpp yeah I do love EVH style - a true innovator, but Steve Farris had far more than just EVH up his sleeve. His use of the whammy bar certainly owes a lot to EVH but listen to the albums and you'll hear loads of other stuff going on - clever use of delays and harmonisers, lots of clean sounds, very little (if any) right-hand tapping. Farris was doing things a little differently to the pure hard rock guys at the time, and that fitted Mr Mister's sound perfectly.

      Same here! I recorded the record straight to cassette as soon as I got it home on the bus, and played it endlessly on my boombox... it was my Grade 10 soundtrack. I would have gone absolutely berserk if I had caught this on TV back then. I would have taped it on the VCR of course to play over and over.

    And this was the last live performance they ever did! Guitar player Steve Farris left shortly thereafter. Whereas the remainder would continue as a trio and record the excellent album Pull (which was only released in 2010, and then reissued just recently in January 2020 with new tracks), there would be no more live gigs. Plans for a Scandinavian tour in the mid-90s fell through and by the release of Pull in November 2010 there just wasn't enough interest to warrant a tour. Shame.

      Steve Farris was a major part of their signature sound. It's sad that he left because of musical directional differences, but Steve Farris return to studio session work afterwards, and now has since retired from the music industry (for now). Hopefully, they all will have a reunion album someday soon....

    • @sundet81
      @sundet81 2 года назад +1

      @@joeyricci3796 I wouldn't hold my breath. Both Steves are pretty much retired from music and it would take an incredible amount of effort for them to go in and do a gig, let alone an album. However much I'd love to see the guys share the stage for the first time since 1988, it won't happen. Sadly.

      Here is the latest interview in this podcast: thehustle.podbean.com/e/ep-156-happy-3rd-birthday-to-us-with-steve-farris-of-mr-mister/
      Awesome stuff, it looks like Richard Page wanted to record Go on album all by himself. And the mixes on this record were poor and when Steve heard them, he was determined to leave the band. I agree with Steve here. Mixes are poor and flat. Richard should record a solo album. Instead, he demolished a band, who had a chance to become super famous.

    • @mikepel1972
      @mikepel1972 6 лет назад +7

      Agreed. Farris is a great player. The whole band are great musicians. Honestly this album should have been larger than what it was. I agree that more guitar as well as more of Pat’s drumming would have helped. Mix wasn’t great because these songs were very good, both lyrically & musically.

    • @janigorse
      @janigorse 6 лет назад +5

      Exactly. Farris also said that grooves and overall playing was even better on Go On than on Welcome to the real world. Funny thing though, I wear the face album was also poorly mixed. According to Farris, I wear the face material was so rehearsed, that live versions of those songs were light years better then those versions on the album. Overall, they didn't have luck with mixes, except with Welcome to the real world. Farris was deeply involved in mixing process and he and Paul DeVilliers had often listen mixes in Farris's car cassette recorder.

He focuses solely on Richard Page, briefly shows Steve Farris (but badly) and never shows Steve George or Pat Mastelotto. A band is more than one person you jerk! Great band for their time. Deserved more mainstream success. Great production. A real mega-80s sound!

      That's an awful lot to read into it. The song is tough on his vocals. He loses the high end halfway through the song on all the live takes that are floating around today. No wonder if being about to take on a song that does that makes you seem a little tense. He was just prepared to perform. Nobody would have questioned the decision, had the band decided to avoid performing that song live. Instead, he stays true to his sense of purpose, literally the chorus of the song. I think that's impressive.

    I'm so confused. What was their style? All over the genre map, with a strong christian theme generously sprinkled about. But then you've got two major hotties fronting the band a la John (Ferris) & Paul (Page), and the sex appeal is off the charts. Plus the 80s were just so damn weird for music. If they'd selected a style and stuck with it, and committed to moving the band forward, they'd be another U2.
