This video was very helpful. The bad thing is these shelves are not the easiest thing to travel with to and from the store. Packaging definitely needs to be different. Looks like I may be taking one back this weekend.
I did not like the wire rack, so I installed plywood on each shelf to allow placing and taking items on and off easier. Also small items don't fall through.
Me and my father bought two of these about a year ago. One was pretty much good everything was complete and square. The second shelf was warped and missing some parts so we put the shelf back in the box and duct taped the box shut to return it to Home Depot and we told them that it was missing parts and was warped. 1 week later we are walking through Home Depot, and we see someone at checkout with the same shelving unit box that we returned with the same duct tape job we re-sealed the box with.
In a situation like that where somebody can make things work and it's not a big deal they probably got a deal.i do the same,I'll offer them about 50 percent of what they have it marked as and usually they will take it.
Very true. I found some clearance pexiglass from them and a corners were chipped. The tags said $12 but they wouldn’t ring up at the register so they charged me $6 each for a 36x32 sheet.
@@ToolReviewZone I’m glad the second try went better for you! Reading the directions and starting from the bottom and working up definitely made a big difference! I’m looking for new shelving, on a scale of 1-10, what do you give these?
I bought three of these, same issues with packaging allowing some damage to some parts. The first 2 units went together fine, the last one had the same warped issue, with the last bottom shelf being out of whack. I was able to muscle it into shape, didn’t want the hassle of lugging it back to the store and it was a few months ago when it was the last units in my area.
So glad you took it back and found out it was damaged, and NOT a bad product. I was ready to buy one until I saw your last review. Now I'm putting down some cash!
I loved the red powder coat look and I couldn’t fit the big 8X8 shelf. I’m almost seventy and my pal helped me haul it home in his truck and we unpackaged it and one of the part A main side support pieces was twisted and cupped and mashed in just like you said. I assumed it was mashed in prior to packing but like you said it must be the forklift drivers who load and u load recklessly. Agree that while most things are packaged with tons of reinforcement these units are so heavy the cardboard around it is just to cover the product with zero protection or reinforcement of the product and it’s content. The shelves are super affordable and priced to move but the downsize Is you don’t know what you have until you open it up at home. Husky said they will send me a new side rail but not as easy for one guy to put together as two and you must use clamps or bracing to put yours together. One question TO ALL ON HERE???? If I pop those rails off and put them down into a fresh side support legging they don’t get weaker or compromised with continual pop offs and pop back ons??? Thanks and thanks for your video of BIG RED ✌️👋 👍
Glad you took it back and the HD made it right! Don't take that previous video down, it helps everyone know that there might be an issue, but that it can be fixed! Thank you!
I'm dealing with the same issues in the first video. Almost broke the arch in my foot when the shelf failed and collapsed. Definitely not safe around little ones or if you're not wearing steel toe boots.
I have the larger model I think 5 shelves. It is really heavy duty. I also put it together by myself. Pro tip. Dewalt makes the same shelf probably the same factory. They have a few accessory's that fit in the cut outs. I bought the extension cord holders for it.
We have put together about a dozen of these for our basement. No quality problems. 2 people did make assembling these easier. I am happy with the units.
I saw one on display at Home Depot but I decided not to get it because the cost was $329 dollars. To me, it didn't seem that it would hold 2,500 lbs per shelf. I would like to see a RUclips video on an actual strength test of the Husky 4-tier heavy duty garage storage shelving (77 inch W x 78 inch H x 24 inch D) to see whether it really can hold 2,500 lbs per shelf and for how long.
That's just too expensive, my friend, we're 77 inches wide * 78 inches high * 24 inches deep, each layer is 1100 pounds, and its price is 85 US dollars Yuan, if you need to bear a higher weight, a shelf with a load of 2,500 pounds per layer costs more than $165, which is a bit expensive, and the price will be cheaper if it is sold in batches
Glad it worked out better for you this time. And while I was watching the last vid on this unit I thought it had to be damaged to be twisted that bad. I've put together the heavy duty units at work and they have the same problems, generally caused by an overly enthusiastic forklift driver.
You should almost always give a place/item a chance to be replace/fix the problem/issue if you really wanted it, my mom always said spend your good money on good things and home depot has an outstanding return policy 😀 good for you my friend 👍
Glad this shelving unit worked out better. I heard the disappointment and frustration in the last video. Nothing worse than having a goal for a project and the material does not meet your expectations! Good job. 👍
Thanks Lisa! I was so bummed out with the last unit just because I was so excited about it. Glad I listened to you all and exchanged it for this one 👊👊👊
Great review and updated one .... customer service is why I go back to h.d....prices help to ...but they stand behind what the sell ....this is why I don't jump on the o.p.t. Or tool nut c.p.o etc deals at those places just nice to deal with h.d when there's a problem👍
Ran right up the road and got it taken care of. If I would have ordered this from Amazon or on-line, I never would have ripped it all apart and got it back in the box. Love me some HD for the same reasons you just mentioned bro👊
Thanks for giving it another shot! I was at home depot and saw this shelving unit about a day before you released this and I was kind of bummed by the bad review, I'm glad that it was just a lemon not a bad product all around! I look forward to trying them in my garage!
Packaging and shipping are a pain. I open cartons piece by piece and photograph every step of the way. The USPS charges an additional $11+ for careful handling. That says something, and it's not nice. I usually pick up stuff at the store, rather than have it delivered, so that I can refuse a damaged package on the spot.
Looks like you need a few more i need to make or get the same thing for my garage as soon as I close on my next house it has a two car garage and me and my partner are finally going to be able to bring all of our tools and store them in one area because it's such a pain from my house to his and the rental it's hard to keep track of everything plus I like the metal shelving it's not going to rot away like wood overtime so happy this one work out for you brother👍👊🇺🇸
Yeah brother, I didn’t have the time to build something, and for the $179 I couldn't pass it up. I'm glad I listened to all of you and took it back. Home Depot was awesome about it too
Good for you it was a pain in the ass to take it all apart again and return it but at least you got a good one and now others can look for damage in the store before going thru all the hassle
Haha, I threw the whole assembled unit on the trailer and dropped it off at the front door Snow. Was glad I did as they were able to see the issues with it.
Mine came beat to hell as well. It was the 90" version and didn't have any paper or foam in the box to keep everything from rubbing together. Metal to metal rubbing up against itself to and fro. Their solution for me was touch up paint. I don't know how you can touch up a powder coat finish with spray paint and make it look good. Also, mine didn't have the pins to hold the horizontal beams to the upright. They must have changed the design.
I have several of these in differing names, Edsal, Whalen, Gladiator, Husky. Buy 2 sets and you can have 3 spans. I don't put the bottom shelf that low and use the floor for that level.
I love mine. This shelve I can use forever. The plastic ones are disposable IMO, but these will never wear out, sag, or warp. Last shelves you'll ever need, barring abuse. Excellent units.
Bro! I missed your original video on this shelf due to YT not sending me the notification but I think I fixed that. Anyway, I bought the gray version of this shelf 2 years ago and love it! No issues with the assembly whatsoever! I did notice the same thing you did- they cheaper out on the packaging of this shelf big time! I can see why it gets dented and dinged so easily! It’s a heavy shelf and Husky should sandwich some styrofoam on the too and bottom, and add some thinner pieces in the middle instead of that flimsy cardboard.
Going to drive 37 miles one way, to a Home Depot tomorrow that has this exact same size, RED color unit in stock. Thanks for the heads-up on checking for shipping damage prior to leaving the store! Cost in central Florida is $199 but still seems like a decent deal for H-D shelving. Looked at the Kobalt brand but it is not available in any color but just in generic black, and is way more money.
I had the same problem (purchased mine from home depot as well)... 6 of the long frame support have odd angles on one side where the metal frame DOES NOT slide in, I HAD TO PRY THEM OUT ABOUT 5MM OUTWARDS to have them slide! and 2 of those long metal frames DOES NOT HAVE the holes for the metal mesh support bar! DISAPPOINTED WITH HUSKY!
I love mine the only down fall I found was I feel it needs a better way to lockdown the wire racks. Mine pop up at the ends or shift a little if I don’t have the shelf filled end to end
@@ToolReviewZone that’s exactly what I had to do! I just wish for the money we spent a couple of latches/hooks built into the frame and we all could just of place the racks under that with the flex it has wouldn’t be a problem
Hey man didn’t watch your first video but seeing this and listening to what you said I had a similar experience with a computer desk I put together. When the hardware is damaged you are going to go through hell putting it up. Great video man screw the haters they gonna hate no matter what 🤟
Place I work has hundreds of this style of racks, some go together easy, some not so much.Ease of installation is one of the things I would not worry about, once they are together they do nothing but sit there and hold shit. The strong point which far outweighs anything else is that this style will literally hold tons of weight.
I saw your other video. I got distracted by something and then never left a comment, so sorry about that. Yeah, that had to go back. I could see it wasn't a workable situation, and sometimes even a BFH doesn't help. Anyway, I'm working by myself here, and with a disability that's somewhat limiting, it's helpful to watch somebody else assemble a larger item in advance. In fact, I've seen this unit at my HD and have wondered about assembly, but now I think I can do that on its side, then stand the thing up. Did I just write a book here? Yes, I think I did. At any rate, I'm glad your new shelving unit worked out. All's well that ends well. Sorry for all the hassle the first one put you through, though.
Haha, thanks so much for the awesome comment Betty! Not a book at all, and always like hearing these comments. It's definitely tough to lift the entire box as it is heavy, but each piece is light and can definitely be done with one person. I have a bad back issue, and it didn't bother me at all!
Always look forward to the content, would of been easier to ride the wave of a negative video than to do another and turn the experience of it into a positive one! Genuine bloke right there.
Thanks D. I actually removed the last video as I'm not here to hurt anyone. Just want to make sure that we get what we pay for, and now I am very happy that It was handled so well. Thanks for the comment 👊👊👊👊
Well done....glad the 2nd round went well....personally I prefer to use my Ryobi-kenobi tools to custom built my own Heavy duty shelving...if it goes wrong...no one to blame, but my build plans and assembly..LMAO.
Me too! I got my shelves built with 2x4's and plywood. Custom size to fit exactly where I need it. Not really the prettiest, but they're solid and do their job :)
I just picked up the 48” wide husky 5 tier shelf. It’s a slightly different system and holds 1000 lbs per shelf. The box had never been open and it was missing one wire shelf and all the clips that hold the shelves to the frame. Between this video, many reviews, and my own experience I’d say that Husky (Edsal, who makes the shelves for Husky) has very poor quality control. Not good considering the cost of these systems have risen about 75% in the last year. If they are going to charge a premium price their QC better be spot on.
The first set were probably stacked too high on a pallet or put on an uneven pallet, things you can’t stack obviously say “Do not Stack” and for the most part people pay attention to that but some items will say to not stack more than 2, 3 or 4 high and I’m willing to bet they came into Home Depot stack two high on a pallet and the workers were like WTF? And stacked like 8 of them on there and the bottom ones warped/twisted with the weight
Just put one of these together today. First thing I will say is I totally agree with you, the packaging is shit! They need to package these better, like a lot better! Especially since Home Dildo inflated the price to $300! Mine came scratched to shit but thankfully went together fairly easily aside from one brace being slightly out of wack on one side. I smacked the hell out of it with a rubber mallet and was able to bend it back into shape enough to complete the build. I think for the price they could do a way better job for sure.
I've got 2 of the same units and I was trying to join them by adding the crossbeam/shelves in between the existing units. When I do it throws the bottom shelf out of wack and the grate will not sit properly on the bottom shelf
Member's Mark 4 shelf industrial is the same for cheaper. Easy to put together than the cheaper ones. Mine was damaged unwelded at the top frames. Unbelievable....
Nice bro! Yea I had a feeling you got one that was dinged. It happens. As for the “friend” you need to start a “Troll of the Week” section at the end of your videos. I always have a “Corona for the Haters” in mine but I like the “Troll of the Week” idea. Just a thought. Enjoy your shelving. Nothing like organizing your workspace...so you can make more room for more tools!...LOL...yea my wife wants to kill me everytime I buy one of those shelves...Have a good week!
I bought two of these and they went to gather very easily. I had to return the first one because two of the legs were bent so bad from a forklift. Home Depot did not want it back and told me to keep it. I have been trying to find out where or how I can buy two of the legs so I can use that shelf. Anyone know where to buy parts? I'm very happy with the two that went together with no issues.
What keeps the wire shelf from bending when heavy items are placed on the shelf? It looks like it needs more of the gray shelf supports. Does the wire hook on the edges or does it jus lay in there?
If you need to put heavy objects, you need to choose a shelf with a higher load bearing, and the shelf with a load of 500 kg on each floor costs more than $80
1. Glad the Husky got a second chance! Need me to take that DeWalt tool box off your hands for more room? 🙂 2. Note to viewers, the box is HEAVY so you may need helping loading/unloading or take out piece by piece at home. 3. I would like to learn more about your garage/shed 👍
You said the shelves hold 2,500 lbs each for a total of 10,000 lbs, but the link is for a 1,500 lbs per shelf unit. I didn't see a 2,500 lb unit for sale. Still a nice unit.
i bought 2 of them 2 years ago... all 8 support legs are not straight...i had to make them straight... not good time not fun...3 hours... i should return it...
I just bought one, it came with 24 shelf supports. Im confused as to why? Just a packaging mistake? Instructions do not mention anything about using that many or mention that it comes with extra
You can check our heavy-duty welded rack. Got Walmart & GS certificate. 1200lbs capacity. And it's boltless, 4 middle corss bar. You'll notice how strong it is!
If y'all could see the way these come in the truck you'd understand. They are an absolute nightmare to unload. A nightmare to get to the shelf. And a nightmare to stock.
I bought 2 of these on sale for $139 and they went together perfectly. Great shelving units!
At Home Despot? They are up to $230 as of July 2021.
$349 now at my Home Depot

Haha, nice👊
I’m glad you did another review. I have these and have been very happy with them.
Awesome, thanks Joshua 👊
What a relief when everything comes together, I thought you were going to blow a gasket in the last video lol 😂
Hahahahahaha 👊👊👊🤣
Just bought one today and the side support brackets were unwelded.
Wow, not cool
The first set were probably stacked too high on a pallet or put on an uneven pallet, things you can’t stack obviously say “Do not Stack” and for the most part people pay attention to that but some items will say to not stack more than 2, 3 or 4 high and I’m willing to bet they came into Home Depot stack two high on a pallet and the workers were like WTF? And stacked like 8 of them on there and the bottom ones warped/twisted with the weight
Very possible Jacob
Just put one of these together today. First thing I will say is I totally agree with you, the packaging is shit! They need to package these better, like a lot better! Especially since Home Dildo inflated the price to $300! Mine came scratched to shit but thankfully went together fairly easily aside from one brace being slightly out of wack on one side. I smacked the hell out of it with a rubber mallet and was able to bend it back into shape enough to complete the build. I think for the price they could do a way better job for sure.
I’m attempting 2 racks tomorrow. I’m a little nervous because the boxes were in terrible condition.
I would replace the rubber plugs with bolts to keep the braces from coming loose @ToolReviewZone
Haha, thanks for the comment Jim! It's funny as I may need to start a troll of the day here on RUclips lol
I put the side post other way around which creates X on side posts. Is that an issue? Everything went well with the installation though.
I dont trust shelving thats supposed to hold 10k lbs but I can bend it in my fingertips.
Can you put some ply wood instead of the wire rack? Does it have enough depths?
What keeps the wire shelf from bending when heavy items are placed on the shelf? It looks like it needs more of the gray shelf supports. Does the wire hook on the edges or does it jus lay in there?
If you need to put heavy objects, you need to choose a shelf with a higher load bearing, and the shelf with a load of 500 kg on each floor costs more than $80
Oh man, I actually am a huge fan of the husky racks. I reviewed two of them. This is a really nice one too, great video!
I have had this unit but the better unit is the one Costco sells (5 Shelves) for the same price. better quality and packaging.
Thanks for the feedback Brian!
Can you share the link or model of that one?
Great follow up video!
Thanks Steve!!!👊
I’d like to be able to put casters on this rack. Do you think that’s possible and if so how difficult?
I would say it's not the box that is the problem. The shelf is extremely lite. One of the four that I bought was bent.
It's been three (3) years since You've posted this video. I hope that Husky has solved the packaging issue.
If I load the shelves to capacity, do I need to displace the weight on my concrete slab somehow so it doesn’t crack?
1. Glad the Husky got a second chance! Need me to take that DeWalt tool box off your hands for more room? 🙂
2. Note to viewers, the box is HEAVY so you may need helping loading/unloading or take out piece by piece at home.
3. I would like to learn more about your garage/shed 👍
Hahaha, you'll be the first to know a other Dewalt box bro lol. Ill be doing a shop tour real soon Nerdy👊
You said the shelves hold 2,500 lbs each for a total of 10,000 lbs, but the link is for a 1,500 lbs per shelf unit. I didn't see a 2,500 lb unit for sale. Still a nice unit.
I think its a miss print. The box says 10k lbs and 2,500lbs right on the box. Ill look into it again
Try this one. Hard to find on the website, but used my receipt homedepot.sjv.io/nDq4x
What is the name brand of your aluminum trailer? She looks pretty nice, and after all, it is a tool. Maybe you can do a short review on it.
I would think those wire shelves would not support a small transmission or Air tank.
Don’t confuse “Husky” with Husky Rack and Wire. No relationship. We manufacture heavy duty pallet rack systems in the industrial market.
Do you think this can be used for number plates and barbell storage
Thanks…my bad, I hate reading directions….🙃😊
Nice shelving, great Colour and looks solid would be perfect if it was on wheels. Any ideas peps...
i bought 2 of them 2 years ago... all 8 support legs are not straight...i had to make them straight... not good time not fun...3 hours... i should return it...
Yeah repair, I would and see if you could get a a better unit. These seem to be hit or miss bro
@@ToolReviewZone the boxes were okay. just no one doing quality checks...
I just bought one, it came with 24 shelf supports. Im confused as to why? Just a packaging mistake? Instructions do not mention anything about using that many or mention that it comes with extra
So the link you gave seems to say that the capacity is only 1500 lbs per shelf...6000 total. Any reaction?
There are different versions, but ill double check the link and see whats up
Wow, so I just looked and that really weird. Must be a misprint on the site. The box states it very large 🤔
Anyway who's going to store 4.5 tons or 10k pounds on this rack 🤪 come on guys don't fight
Is there a way to brace/earthquake proof these?
11 months after you posted and the prices have gone up to $299 on these units.
You can check our heavy-duty welded rack. Got Walmart & GS certificate. 1200lbs capacity. And it's boltless, 4 middle corss bar. You'll notice how strong it is!
As an retired trucker, all these brands are pretty much packaged the same... Poor packaging...
I would spend another hundred dollars and get the Dewalt if I wasn't building something myself.
I heard they are good, but haven't tried them👊
Did you try Harbor Freight? Some of their stuff is really worth it.
The first one was most likely damaged during shipping which is usually the case.
Smeesh that like button. 👀👉🏽 👍🏽
yeah, definitely needs better packaging brother man Jason, but this was much better. Thanks for the SMEEESH Jason!!!!
My cross braces are messed up….My nephew (12) & & put the larger unit, I’m (5’1), no issues…..this smaller unit @ beach house 💩
Maybe you literally got the one that fell off the truck not in the good way lol I just hope everything work out for you
It's really possible brother. This way way better 👊👊👊
If y'all could see the way these come in the truck you'd understand. They are an absolute nightmare to unload. A nightmare to get to the shelf. And a nightmare to stock.
Can you do a shop tour?
Sure will bro. Just need to organize a bit and ill definitely do a video Sean👊
wow this is totally not acceptable now that all these shelves are crap steel and over $300 now,
WOW is called inflation. Stop being a whiny little beeech.
Your shed must have racked in the wind. 👍
Hahaha, very possible fishbone
Had to use zip ties on mine putting it together. They need to make them like they used to. The new manufacturing process on these sucks.
You should not have to go back in fourth until you find a shelf that is in good condition
Yeah, I agree with that too Larry👊
Great video, I will not purchase 1, needs to be heavier gauge steel for me and my needs.
Nice trailer
Thanks Joyce!
Man really brought a trailer 😂😂
Haha. I brought the other defective one back up fully assembled lol
@@ToolReviewZone I would as well, screw talking it apart. good on ya 👍👍
