I’ve decided instead of ‘hybrid’, I’m ‘jacked of all trades’.

Wouldn’t say I’m a hybrid athlete so much as a broad focus strength athlete. I’ve won local strongman competitions and throw in the B class in the Highland Games. I plan on getting both a powerlifting and weightlifting total. I enjoy supertotal training to drive both my strength and athleticism.

Currently recovering from a stress fracture in my shin so can’t train how I’d fully like to. But I very much identify with this.
I’m a jiu jitsu purple belt who likes to train 2-3x a week, working towards a 500ish lb back squat, a +150lb pullup, a 335-365lb incline bench, and running 20-35 miles a week

Could you please remind me (us) of the book's title you mentioned previously. It's soviet era and has title roughly something like "two masses system of weightlifting"... ? Am I way off? mentioned in video long ago as a recommended book. My googling is coming up with nothing. Thanks for all your content and japes.

I’m one of those Horse + Conditioning app users. I would love more videos about combining goals and how to peak things and when. I know the livestreams talk about that often but more developed videos on that would be amazing.

I think this kind of training is perfect for anyone who just wants to be generally fit and enjoys any kind of training. Me personally I'm definitely just a weightlifter because anything I do that isn't weightlifting I only do to be a better weightlifter. For instance I don't enjoy hypertrophy work or conditioning at all but I will do it when I need it to improve the lifts. I'm not even a good weightlifter or anything because of it but that's what I do because it's simply the single thing that I enjoy most.

As someone that's been getting into Rowing over the past few years, it's quickly become apparent to me that being strong and fit aren't necessarily distinct goals. For success in that sport, two key factors (aside from technique) is being able to generate a high wattage but also maintain that high wattage over 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 m etc.
Sure, you can definitely get super strong or super fit by ignoring one in favour of the other, but doing both is arguably one of the best ways to be a successful sportsperson.

Is part of the sika strength ethos to perform accessories with the least intensity possible? Noticed both yourself and Daire never really go near failure on accessories.

I feel like I've broadly wanted to fix my body composition for a long time but this obviously conflicts with getting stronger/bigger. I'd be interested in a framework or program changes to account for when looking to cut/improve body comp.
Would you start a weightlifting program with the intention of losing weight and not fixate on max out days? Would you lower 1RM percentages to allow yourself to still do all the work but at a lower intensity? Or is something more optimal? Would be great to hear your thoughts.

20yrs ago before cross fit was a popular thing, people would say they were cross training which basically meant you did 2 or more sports or activities to get fit. You could play tennis twice a week, wts 3 times a week and touch football once a week and you could say you were cross training.

At various points in my life I’ve done one sport or style of training monomaniacally for a 5 to 10 year block. Now, in the autumn of my training years, I want to keep my toe dipped in all those things. I avoid over-use injuries, get regular reminders of past enjoyment and successes, and get to keep all my bodies athletic capabilities oiled. Seems like a win-win. Still find the term ‘hybrid’ a bit irksome though.

Out of shear curiousty - does anyone know what that big yellow cross bar with wires / machines attached to it does in this building? I can make out that it says Demag, but it just seems like such an interesting piece of hardware lol

    • @HighFivesFTW1
      @HighFivesFTW1 Месяц назад +1

The “cross bar” is a monorail, the wires and attachments will be a chain hoist of some kind.
You lift items using the chain hoist, and transport them along the monorail.

There’s no guessing about it, that’s exactly what hybrid training is. Running and lifting isn’t the only way to do it.
This is why I’m a big fan of CrossFit because it gives the individual more variety on how to train the whole body without getting that mental fatigue that the average person gets with other forms of training
