😂 me laying in bed thinking the same thing lol. I did a 150lb snatch today and I was thinking about how doing 2 red wheels on a snatch would be awesome one day. Not really knowing how I am going to get there. Then this video shows up and your comment lol
Appreciate this type of content. As an older gent (45) that got into this game pretty late, I feel that I missed my window. From my assessment, and based on percentages, it is a strength deficiency. Tried, R2A and dozens of their programs over the years. Nonetheless, headed down to the basement in a few hours to give it a go. That's life.
When did you get into it? I'm 30 and just started a few weeks ago. Back squat is 160kg, but I've only just started snatching and am struggling to consistently lift 40kg, haha
@@snatchgrip I've bet you've doubled that snatch by now 🤣. I guess I started around 35 and I was nowhere near as strong as you. Best of luck and keep training. You are young!
@@congoose100 I wish I had doubled it 🤣 I'm finding mobility is a big issue for me (probably from too much bench pressing...) so progression is sloooooooow. Once I get this sorted out I'm hoping my numbers will blow up!
The timing of this video is amazing as I’m attempting a snatch PR today😂just barely missed 97kg in comp a few months ago and I’ve significantly improved both my squat numbers and my technique since. so I’m hoping to hit 100kgs today. Thanks!
Reached a 60 kg snatch with a less than shitty technique earlier this year, you would have cried if you saw it. Spent a few months on fixing my technique and trying to obtain a natural flow in the snatch such that I don´t have to think about how I do it, I just simply do it (and be able to repeat multiple lifts in the same manner). In the last two weeks, I've been touching this flow, resulting in euphoric 60 kg snatches, 57.5 kg triples and an almost 65 kg snatch, but my problem is the strength: My 5rm front squat is only 90 kg, while my 5rm back squat is 120 kg. Needless to say, I need to improve my strength significantly before I can reach 100kg. I love the journey though: I snatch 4 times a week and squat Rippetoe style every session, and I can really feel the improvements from one workout to the next. Thanks for this episode, this was exactly the motivation I needed after a terrible workout!
Update: my weakness is mobility and wrist confidence in the bottom position. My right wrist has a severe mobility issue, and when catching it protects itself somehow. Moreover, my hip mobility is an issue. I can reach a comfortable bottom position holding, but I can't get there fast. When the weight gets heavy, It turns into power snatches every time (perfectly performed, I might add). I now power snatch 75 kg nowhere near 90 degrees knee angle. My back squat is at 170 5rm and a 180 single, though it is probably a few kg higher now. We'll keep working, friends.
Cool to read the comments and see other 40+ year old late starters around. Been a bit bummed out after being off training to rest an injury (these niggles don't just go away like they did a decade ago!!!) and start to fall into the mindset of "maybe it's just not a good idea at this age"... but seeing other peoples' positivity in their own similar journeys is very motivating.
Great video. Have been stuck at 88kg snatch with a 180kg back squat and a 125kg clean and jerk. This video gives a lot of useful context and the ratios are fantastic.
I’ve been at beyond the timeline yous say I should have it, but the amount of setbacks I’ve had due to technique and injuries is what I’m hoping is the reason this year is the first year I’ve actually attempted to work on everything else and keep the ego aside, great video lads
Great info. I've been squatting for a number of years so BS is 115kg. But the snatch I've only started in the last 2 years is 45kg. Lots of good take away points. Also late to the game at 45.
This video is awesome! Keep grinding! Question for you... have you ever used Next Level Diet? I got a custom muscle-building meal plan from them and it's really working for me.
Commenting for the algo Great content, and presented well; 100kg is on every weightlifter's mind, and this is put together well enough that it could really save athletes a lot of time, heartache, and injuries. If anyone is considering Sika programs, go ahead and try them; they can be a bit tough at times, but they have had good results for me and the feedback on the FB group is great to give me something to focus on for the next week of the program.
Currently: 147kg bs 124kg fs 108.5kg snatch 120kg cj I've been weightlifting since March of last year and ever since then learning the technique has been the priority rather than strengethening the bs and fs. Im starting to now add my bs and fs into my program.
Man that's impressive. Sitting at a 177 bs, 150 fs, and I'm only at a 90 snatch. Your ratios are great! Been training the lifts for four years now, about 3 in a crossfit setting and 8 months in an olympic lifting gym to unlearn some of my bad habits haha
6 months into weightlifting and I’m currently at a 180 back squat and power snatch 75 but my snatch is at 69kg RIP. I’ve got a lot of technique and mobility training ahead of me.
im going to purchase more progammes. thank you thank you for all your content entertainment insight and programmes. i will be the first 45 year old to WL at the olympics.
Berne weightlifting around 7 months so far transitioning from powerlifting and this sport is so enjoyable, currently sitting at an 80kg snatch and a 110kg clean and jerk. Looking forward to the long road to a 100kg snatch I have ahead
this makes alot sense i recently started programming hang snatches because they felt easy in the second pull and turn over, am taking a stepback from the and just focusing on no foot snatches
Been into (amateur/hobby) weightlifting for a few months now. My God this sport is addictive. I improved my mobility a lot + gained some kilos on the front/back squats as well as some muscles on my back. My current snatch pr is 70kilos at 71kg/bw. Been working on my technique ever since I met Angel Genchev (oldschool bulgarian weightlifter and the heaviest man to ever lift 3x his bw 202.5kg at 67.5 bw). Luckily he said that my technique is pretty okay for a youtube-tutorials-pupil lol but I had some things (obviously) to fix. Really important thing is to NOT sacrifice technique and risk injuries because of ego or a rush to get the 100kg milestone. I also watched some of coach Ivan Abadzhiev's interviews and stopped doing exercises like the classical deadlifts since it contradicts with the movement of the snatch/cnj according to his knowledge and experience.
Klokov wearing turtles shirt was the highlight of the video for me. My plan was to practice weightlifting and increase strength at the pace it would happen, but I got the great idea of getting back to judo and now I can't do weightlifting at all or I'm too beaten up to do either. But at least I'm growing a lot of muscle and some strength anyway. We'll see in some weeks, months or years how the original plan will pan out. I might be too old to hit that 100 kg by then, but your content hopefully guides me to my best performance eventually.
A video I need for extra motivation. Current PR is 90kg but I can and have put more than that over my head but misses the lifts because coach says I need to make slight adjustments in my technique and timing everytime I try a new weight but he's confident I can hit 100kg by end of the year if not earlier if I keep on dialing those issues in. Strength isn't my issue, consistency in technique at the higher weights and new weights is so I'm hoping I can focus and hit this milestone soon
I think an interesting topic to talk about is the common habits from someone coming from crossfit into weightlifting (myself included) because of the nature of how crossfit workouts are programmed. It seems like one of the most common backgrounds people come into weightlifting with. This isn't me saying the sport is bad it's just the approach to, for example, snatching for reps right after doing some quad fatiguing movement is probably different than a 1rm build. For example I myself had (and still do occasionally) a big problem of sitting into my heels so much so that my toes would lift off the ground almost immediately during my pull because i was used to my quads being fatigued. I also still overdo arm bend due to a lack of extension at the end of my pull and need to keep working on that.
Power snatch is 76, snatch is 90, snatch pull maybe 110 and backsquat 125. I feel like a 160kg backsquat is almost "too much" for a 100kg snatch. Any thoughts into my situation?
I'm trying to build a really powerful clean. Do you have any advice for athletes just trying to build their clean? I'm interested in power development for parkour. Thanks!
if a rep max from the floor is something to stay away from, should i try my 1RM snatch from blocks? sorry if this is an obvious question, I just want to be sure
So... If you can not do backsquats , and are just frontsquating... What then? Is that not good enough? I got rid of all lower back pain after switching from back to frontsquats.
@@larryboi2706 Haha,. But i have. Maybe not 200 then. Just thought it peculiar that they put such emphasis on the backsquat, but did not mention frontsquat.
