This video is as amazing as watching you squat 300 kg, or 270 for fahvs. I love the stories, the process, the things you went through, the things you would've done, or wouldn't have done.
Proud of you!! It’s cool to hear a lifter talk about their injuries, mindset, and reflect on a training block. All we usually see is the end result on the bar and nothing else! 🖤
Great content and great work 💪👍 it's also refreshing to hear a full bodyweight breakdown with the lifting weights, so many people making squat videos lack that.
Thanks for this great video. I'm finally getting close to a huge goal of mine which is a double bodyweight squat. I'm so close and I can't wait to hit it hopefully by end of next month!
Thanks a lot for this video, it was very interesting to follow your training for 300kg and then to hear your thoughts on it in this video. I have been missing the squat videos!
Thanks for the explanation. It’s something I do myself now, going back and reflecting on what was beneficial and detrimental in a block. While everyone says they learn from their mistakes, very few have the foresight to actually do it.
Incredible. As someone who's been squatting seriously for a year to 18 months I'm just approaching 200kg now. 300kg is the real goal for posting a number many people can with the right commitment but never will. Amazing journey.
maybe like 5% of people could ever hope to hit 300 naturally, possibly closer to 10 or 12% enhanced and even then the majority would be 120kg+ bw. 300kg is truly huge, especially for a non super.
This was great to watch. I would love to see all of this written down though, not to copy anything, the volume would crush me at almost 47 ha, but just because I love looking and the process and the progressions and see where you made certain decisions you talked about? Any chance of making something downloadable to view?
you can't get a better recount on a strength journey then this.. did i hear properly though, metaformin? for diabetes? I never read it but i saw a title on Metformin inhibiting the ability to develop muscle ( no idea if there is anything to it )🤔. Can i ask for thought, recently in attempt to strengthen my glass back, I've started to do good mornings and hold for time at the bottom, and also start front squats and hold at the bottom(mostly). really trying to emphasise that thoracic extension and contraction right down the back.. trying to gauge an appropriate time under tention target as i go before moving up a weight. Do you see any merrit to this kind of approach? cheers from shaun
I’m trying to get to 200kg , body weight is 77kg and don’t want it to Increase, did you get you blue belt? I’m close to brown and train 4 times a week.
As a spidermonkey body type, watching this video with much jealousy. :D I will never squat 300, probably not even 200. But I do want to be able to squat double my body weight. That is going up as I'm recovering from knee surgery and gaining upper body mass and regaining lowerbody mass. So hoping I'll be able to hit 170 within 2 years. Main sport is jiu-jitsu, so not putting any pressure on the strength training.
Certainly possible. First week in the gym I hit 135kg - no belt, no sleeves, ass to grass, in a pair of Yeezys. No previous weightlifting experience, had never done a barbell squat until that same week.
I'm not saying it's impossible, just that there had to be some sports experience before that, which it has, as Eoin has explained in a reply. I assume you were also not a couch potato for your whole life before that.@@christopherroberts2500
You describing the nervousness before going for a big goal like that is so accurate. I've been lifting for 9+ years but only recently (last 2-3 years) been taking it seriously. My first time going for a 2x bodyweight deadlift it's this weird feeling where you have so much self doubt but then you're also trying to counter it with self belief. Also the latter part of the video talking about technique adjustments is great, as they are almost the exact same problems I have with squatting (losing back position, flaring elbows and even the hip flexor!) so going to try and implement them this week. Great video.
Yep, first time barbell squatting. Was definitely an athlete long before that though I assume. Lived a sedentary life and hit 80 for 5 my first time squatting at 19 so I think that’s pretty achievable.
Only a few can feel, what you managed too do. Working weeks for weeks several times a week in sometimes uncomfortable conditions only the gool in mind. Could achive 5x5 x180 in a warehouse in dezember with single digit temperatures...
Did you do this with a little extra “something”? I just can’t imagine doing 5x5 five days a week. I’m in my 30s and need like 3 days to recover from a heavy 5x5. Either way, super impressive!
He already said that he'd do it light like 120-200Kg for all but once a week. Do the math, I'm sure you can also do 5x5 five days a week with 40-67% of your 1RM if you built up the work capacity slowly.
I find it astonishing that you can be 110kg at 5'8? or so and not look outrageously obese. I've got similar 'heavy' genetics to you, though proportionally, at 6ft tall, I'd be weighing 120kg or so. Madness.
I'm by no means an accomplished lifter. But I've controlled wrist and forearm pain from squatting by adjusting my grip to a thumb over, such that the bar draws a line between the base of my pinky and the meaty part of my palm below the thumb. That being said, my form is much more of a "low bar" squat, and my numbers are not nearly as impressive. Good work man!
Thats crazy, good job! Im at around 155 kg squat, at 74 bw now. Ill aim to get to 180+ when my oly is not so far behind my squats, and then ill use your journey as inpiration. Thanks!
Have you seen an bjj gains from the strength increase? What is your maintenance squat weight going to be? Any general observations about bjj strength from your personal experience?
Got me motivated to hit my own squat goal of 200 this year…. Great effort incredibly strong
Thanks 😄
Good Luck, I'll try 150 kgs this year, currently 110 but i've to move country and learn language so welp
Just narrowly missed a 150 today :(
Me too

very impressive and motivational. fair play Eoin
Much appreciated
Great road and great edit
Thanks 👍
Amazing video! Thanks for sharing this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
dude's mental fortitude is something else, and add that BJJ on top of it..what a journey fren
What a great video. Really appreciate all the details. That’s a top of the line fridge. Is this a smart fridge? What are all of these buttons?
Yes, it is! 🤣

That is seriously lot of weight in that bar. Like. It’s super. Cool 😎 to see.

Amazing video, huge congratulations and thank you for documenting the journey!
I see what you did with making music gradually increase in volume then drop off at the end. Sounded like a final fantasy credits
Sick Fable music in the background!
Thanks for sharing. This has inspired me to go for squatting double my body weight.
Wow. I did a Hatch squat cycle awhile back and also contracted DeQuairvains Tensovytis. I had no idea it could’ve been from squatting..
This was so good. You write well, was enjoyable to listen to 🦍🔥🦍
lovely vid this is there, loving the content on channel lately too.

congrats brother. I can do 140kg at the bw of 70kg. I will try do get 200kg squat one day 😊
Hey what's that music in the background for the first 10 mins, I swear I heard it somewhere but can't place it.
It's music from Fable: The Lost Chapters

Well done again man. Incredible achievement!
You squatted 120kg without ever squatting before at 18 years old? But you were training some other sport before that?
Yes I’m interested in the story there! Seems high even if you are an Irish Fridge born from a venerable line of Irish Fridges 🍀💪
Gaelic football, tae kwon do, some cross country, some body weight WODs in the gym and some other random sports throughout the years

is this guy saying he hit 120kg for 5x5 his first time squatting, at 17?
Yep, first time barbell squatting. Was definitely an athlete long before that though I assume. Lived a sedentary life and hit 80 for 5 my first time squatting at 19 so I think that’s pretty achievable.
