Shout out to the translator. I don't speak Japanese but it seemed like he made a real effort to actually translate the questions (even the sensitive ones) and facilitate a conversation.
@@DeadBeatDex yes, to be honest I’m learning terminology watching his translation because I don’t have experience talking about this sport in Japanese. Just hasn’t come up much for me in my day to day speaking.
Yeah, PEDs open the door to *real* volume. Even when Clarence was at maximum dosage, I don't think he got near the tonnage of the Eastern systems. Iirc front squat volume in Poland destroyed Clarence's knees, which is why his squat looks the way it does.
Bruh 5x5 followed by 3x10 5 times a week is insane. 😂 Us mere mortals could do this twice a week and it would be considered high volume. Absolute beast.
Love the series! The conversation with Toshiki was super interesting and entertaining. Loved how appreciative and wholesome everyone was. 😀Looking forward to seeing more of the boys in Japan!
Interesting he talks about the deeper breath holds. Idk if bodybuilders or weightlifters still practice this but back in the silver era and golden era of bodybuilding, those guys used to train dumbbell pullovers for rib cage expansion and practiced deep breaths -- to the point where they could blow up those thick rubber balloons during strongman competitions. I'd imagine if one could expand their rib cage and lung capacity, they could probably get a squat PR just from that.
I have a lot of respect for Toshiki's translator, he language skills are impressive. I speak 4 languages but not as fluidly as he does with so little accent.
5x5 + 10x3 with a min rest!! 5 times a week?! This is insanity!! This ia Darwin program: survival of the fittest. But honnestly, any sport science guy would look at that and loose their minds. Nice work fellas, amazing content.

Irish fridge dumbfounded by squat senpai going against everything he knows about training for the squat ie his only regret re training core is that it ruined his vacuum pose in bodybuilding 💀
I like getting as big a breath as possible and to do that is with diagrammatic breathing to start and end with the chest. Breathe deep into your BALLS and then fill your chest.
@mfreak1126 what do you mean? Doing the same workout everyday is probably the most basic thing you could do. The fact that it can be explained in a single sentence speaks for itself.
Well he was used to doing two sessions per day of about 3 hours each for weightlifting training, and that would have included a ton of squat and pull volume around that weight from the snatch and clean and jerk every day. So when he moved to only squatting to hit the 321kg he basically just shifted that volume from the lifts and put it directly into the squats instead. It's not something an amateur can do, but a professional weightlifter with 10 years experience can because they've built that training capacity.
hes competing in bodybuilding. I personally don't like bodybuilding for this reason. Makes a person look like shit just for 1 min of presentation on stage.
I thought you were supposed to breathe into your stomach and brace your core while squatting, not breathe into your chest as Toshiki was instructing? @Sika Strength care to chime in?
I really felt that comment about being "too tall". Toshiki basically saying "you don't got the genetics to squat & giving any tips is useless because it won't work for you as well"
5x5 at 80% intensity, 1 minute rest in between sets, five times a week... ungodly amount of volume, over 32 metric tonnes/week. I'm sceptical. Someone who can actually translate what he said becuase I think the interpreter messed up. Even if he rested 10 minutes in between, that's still alot of volume. AND to repeat it the FOLLOWING day... hell no, he's legs would turn into jelly after the first session. Not saying it's impossible, but doing it consistently at 80% every single day... WITHOUT being sore? What kind of drugs he taking to speed up his recovery? I got like a million questions rn...
5x5 + 3x10 1 min rest. Even then I call it bs doing the same shite 5 days a week. Either translator fucked up or Toshiki just made it up on the fly. But hey, now every dumbass is gonna try it!
Toshiki the type of guy to show up at your aunts wedding and tell you you should be able to squat 330
Then tell you afterwards you had 2 more reps in you.
And tell you should be able to clean and jerk 230kg based on your squat
😂😂😂😂😂
He would never ask you to do anything that he couldn't do himself.😇
AHAHAHAHAHA
