A (very) brief glimpse underneath Malham Cove

- Filmed a while ago - Very dry conditions meant a gentle water flow and good visibility which encouraged me to put my mask on and have a peep into the entrance of the underground flooded passage leading back under Malham Cove. Normally the sole preserve of the cave diving group, this was a fascinating glimpse of their domain.
Fantastic footage.
Absolutely beautiful!! I love the way you film your videos. I feel like I'm there with you. Thank you
Excellent - something I could never see myself. I think that this is where the Malham Beck resurfaces after it has been potholing.
Malham Cove #1
Climbing cloudwards,
waves rise above me.
The weight of their shadows
is too much to bear.
I turn and run
expecting at any moment
to be drowned
by the final fall
of petrified waters.

No fear of that happening in your amazing video Stu. I didn't realise you could actually get under the Cove like that.
The cave system beneath the Cove is immense.... I think the divers have got over 1km in!
Is the system in whole large (with propper gear)?
I believe that divers have explored approximately 1 km of passages upstream - very technical caving!!
@@daleswildswim that's quite a long system!
Was that today Stu? We've been swimming at Janet's Foss today. Absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately we was unable to find the pools above Gordale Scar from "in Deakins footsteps". Could you direct us to those amazing pools from the butty van on the road at the start of Gordale Scar? Cheers Captain.
No , it was filmed nearly a year ago - and if you message me on FB or Insta...
@@daleswildswim Thanks, I will follow you on Instagram. We're a big fan of your videos being avid "wild swimmers" ourselves. Take care.
Beat me to it.,never knew it got deep ,I thought is was a foot deep ,
I wonder if it opens up further in .
Interesting, nice video.
Cave divers have ventured nearly 1km back.... this particular entrance regularly constricts a short way in after heavy rain, but another one to the side keeps clearer.
@@daleswildswim I never knew there is a cave system I , guessed there would be ,now I know, been to the bottom many times always thought it would be to tight for anyone to get under.
Is it a recent find ? Do you know of any more footage.
Thanks 👍
@@daleswildswim the divers entrance is the scaffolded and gated square hole on the right as you are looking at the cove.
The mesh gate is cos tourists used to keep dropping in stones so divers would have to co stantly clear it.
The main rising you popped your head under reconnects with the divers entrance after about 10 mins of diving.
There are quite a few passages and some quite awkward low sections.
A chap called John Cordingly has done a lot of development at this site over numerous dives clearing rocks to make way for further progress. A very knowledge guy who works at the Ingleborough show cave.
Where the water sinks up top is still somewhat of a mystery despite it having been dye tested to trace.
There is no proper cave diving allowed here other than dives allowed via a specialist cave diving group due to it being a serious cave dive. The farmer who owns the land is really helpful and often assists divers with cylinder transportation on his quad bike. He is called Mr Moon there is a chamber in the system named moon chamber in recognition of the farmer but also because more people have been to the moon than there.
@Bob Bob Thank you.... I live in the village and know JC and Norman along with others of the CDG fraternity...
@@BobBob-ye2my brilliant information Bob,
I've been coming to the cove for many years, all ways thought they must be a cave system,, but never seen that plunge pool lol.
Hope some manage to film it one day.
Cheers
Wowzers Stu! That’s some breath-holding! Fascinating under there, did you use a dive torch?
No, it's a caving light - same ones we use for the "light em up" dips at Janet's.
How deep is it at that point .
Slopes back under the cliff to a depth of 6 or 7 feet.. tight space!!
