    Any thoughts whether or not there is a word play in Genesis 37 in Joseph's life since a few things important things are associated to his name? Joseph mean add to/more. When Joseph told his brothers his dreams they hated him more. Silver is kasaph which bears two of the letters found in the name of Joseph (Samech and Peh) since they sold him to the Midianites. Pasim is the coloured coat which has two of the letters of his name. And to tell or report on his brothers is what Jacob his fathers told Joseph to do which is a derivative on his name (sepher). Do you find this elsewhere?

      I haven't studied more in depth but feel persuaded that there's more to this, especially when I studied the name Levi and the 46 years of time taken to build Herod's (?) temple in John 2.

      Very interesting. How do you explain the word Gilgal in Joshua chapter 5:9? What are the Hebrew meaning? The translation inthe English language is rolled away? Is that correct? Thanks 👍

    • @gilgalbiblewheel6313

      @@motoole3200 Yes it's referring to the rolling away of the reproach as they celebrated the passover in the land of Canaan. This may be the shadow of Jesus' crucifixion as the punishment of our sins were rolled away.

      @@motoole3200 Good question. In that verse God says to Joshua, "I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you." The Hebrew word for 'rolled away' is galoti, which has the gimel (g) and lamed (l) which Gilgal has twice. So yes, Gilgal is a play on the word for 'rolled away'. :)

      Hey my friend! I love you sm. I was going to be a Muslim too, but God showed me the truth, that Jesus Christ is the way. Not the false God Allah. And this was all because I had a heart sickness aswell for 4 years. It was absolutely terrible. Suffering daily and I was completely miserable all the time. I was dying. I couldn't eat, walk really, or breathe bc of how bad it got. Especially the palpitations. Allah never answered my prayers sadly, tho, not really bc I know who my true Creator is now. And am saved. But, Jesus did!!!! He was the ONLY one who did heal me COMPLETELY and could when other Gods or man couldn't. After years!!!! I thought all hope was lost. Especially spiritually. And, after that, I gave my life to Him, And have complete peace knowing my salvation is secured by His sacrifice and my choosing to follow Him in truth. Jesus is my Best Friend. And can be yours too! Also, after truly reading the bible, you see it's not a Religion. God never made it that, it's a relationship with Him/Jesus. That's why He made us and we walked with Him in the Garden. The Bible is also hundreds of years before the Quaran, and 100% accurate and true, lining up with/and according to History, Creation, testimonies, eyewitness, and unbaised science. Not one piece is false or contradicting if you read it in Context and not Cherry Pick or twist it like theology for what it isn't. If you still don't believe me, ask God and Jesus yourself. They never will fail to bring anyone the truth for they love and wish all to be saved. That's why they are so longsuffering with us, tho we constantly say "OMG" and "JC", rejecting them and saying their name in vain, disbelieving them. I'll pray you want them and are saved someday too! GB 💜✝️💜🎉

      Well, that’s actually what the 10 word ketubah is, it’s a marriage contract, not a list of commandments, it’s a proposal. God comes down on the mountain, like the man bending his knee, and asks to serve/bless them. “The ketubah is a unilateral agreement drawn by witnesses in accordance with Jewish civil law, in which they testify that the husband guarantees to his wife that he will meet certain minimum human and financial conditions of marriage.” When God says, “you shall have no other gods before me” He’s saying, I’m a jealous God and want you all to myself, you’re MINE!

    This is wonderful even though most of it flies right over my head. Is there anything more fascinating than the Hebrew language? I’ve watched many Rock Island Books videos on Hebrew words, letters, letter sequence, and such. Yahweh put more into the language He created than I’ll ever grasp. But every thing I learn increases my awe for our unmatchable Almighty God and Father. How blessed we are. I was adopted and not born into His family. I shiver with excitement when I ponder the statement that one day “we will know even as also we are known”!

    In a website I read other (Christian ) interpretation of the names as follows:
    Jacob had twelve sons and their names put together is the hidden gospel revealed through it. Its amazing how God hid all these wonderful truths in simple names and stories. Here are the names and their meanings:
    Reuben - Behold, A Son is born to us
    Simeon - One who hears
    Levi - Attached
    Judah - Praise the Lord
    Dan - He judged
    Naphtali - My Struggle
    Gad - Good fortune
    Asher - Happiness
    Issachar - Reward
    Zebulun - Honour
    Joseph - Add to my family
    Benjamin - Son of righteousness
    This is what the collection of their names says:
    BEHOLD, A SON IS BORN UNTO US, ONE WHO HEARS US AND BECAME ATTACHED UNTO US.
    PRAISE THE LORD, HE JUDGED OUR STRUGGLE AND BROUGHT US GOOD FORTUNE, HAPPINESS, REWARD, HONOR; HE ADDED US TO HIS FAMILY AND CALLED US THE SONS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.
    Jesus Christ is not just a mere name we mention in our sermons or discussions, He is the Content, the Context, the Text, Paragraph, the Remark, the Mark and the Outline of the entire Bible.”

    I am aware of the meaning of Levi as joined... But I also heard an alternative description in theological seminar... That lev [לב] means "heart" and the levites was the priests of Israel and therefore "close/joined to (Gods) heart" giving the word Levi or Levites that meaning.

      Thank you for commenting! Though the words Levi and lev do sound similar, I think that is a coincidence considering Levi is spelled with a vav, לוי, and lev is spelled with a bet, לב. Back when the Bible was written, the vav probably had a w sound instead of a v, so the words wouldn't have even sounded the same, and so it wouldn't have been an intentional similarity. :)

    I always feel bad for Rachel. She didn't do anything we know of to deserve having to have her sister tacked on to her betrothal and dragged through her marriage. Jacob cheated his brother, so Laban cheated him, but Rachel got jacked all the way around, and should have been able to have and enjoy more children, and she just up and dies on top of it all before even knowing her baby. She likewise had to wait 14 years for her rightful husband. Her father cheated her. He was greedy from the beginning, when he was just a brother to Rebecca. You know he saw stars when the servant presented the jewelry to her, and was elated to see another of the same family come back to his household for another wife, one of his own daughters, when Jacob was grown.
    And Leah, what did she expect, knowing Jacob never loved her and never wanted to marry her? No, now your husband will not love you and want to come live with you, regardless of HOW many children of his you bear, you are not married to him by any honest, open means, but by legalism and subterfuge. Women, take note, and men, too. If someone doesn't want you by natural attraction, trickery will never end well. Never. Hold out for someone who is naturally drawn. Otherwise that person will never treat you as you hope, will likely cheat on you, and despise you. SO save yourself the trouble. Either wait for someone who loves you or go without. Without is better than being despised in your own home, something Leah had a hard time learning.
    Either woman could have tipped Jacob off, why didn't they? Leah could not, because she was desperate and did not care about Jacob at all. If she did, she would have told him and not allowed the farce to occur. She did not care about him at all. He was nothing but a provider and baby daddy to her, or she would have been honest with him. She was immature asf. Did Laban lie to Rachel the whole time, acting like he would honor the agreement, and merely restrain her at the last moment and substitute Leah? Just because Laban SAID it was tradition to marry off the eldest first, does not mean that is true. And he never mentioned it prior, so all the more he was greedy and wanted all he could squeeze out of Jacob.
    To this day, too many stupid women actually think having a man's baby will magically make him love her. NO, usually he will despise her unless he chose her as his wife and expected to have children with her from the start. He might, might..might love the child, and he might not, but he definitely will NOT love a women who traps him. Nope. And Leah knew all along he did not want her. It's creepy and sad that Rachel had to compete with an unwanted third wheel, the white elephant no one wanted. Pity the unwanted Leah if you must, but there was a reason no other man had chosen her, and she wasn't wife material to any other nearby man, either, or she would have been married even to some older man who wanted companionship and perhaps more children. But no, she had things about her that kept her unproposed. And all Rachel did was just be a young girl in love, and she got the most raw end of the deal than anyone.

      @brb-s8705 4 месяца назад +20

      You're thinking like a 21st century woman. Men typically didn't chose their wives or vice versa especially when younger. It was often a transaction between the fathers along with a dowry (financial gift) for the bride. Tne patriarch was the head of the household and daughters nor sons would ever think to defy him. Marriages weren't always about love. Many times neither husband or wife would know each other before betrothal so romantic love was not a consideration in marriage.

      @@Kazimierz438 No offense to you or anyone in particular, but I dislike searching through the entire OT to try to find one thing that would justify their often miserable lives. Even though Rachel stole the gods, lied, and got away with it, I don’t think that justifies years of barrenness, unhappiness and then dying in childbirth. It also paints an unfavorable picture of a vengeful, wrathful God who delegates extreme punishment for just one sin (although the concept of sin was barely even expanded upon in Genesis). I’m an atheist and I don’t believe that Leah, Rachel, and Jacob actually existed, but they are still telling of the way life and marriage was back then. They are very interesting tragic and flawed characters, and I think it’s better to do them justice by examining their lives through a more secular lens instead of trying to find whatever action offended Yahweh the most. (though I still think Laban was an ass 😂)

    • @clone3_7
      @clone3_7 3 месяца назад +4

      @@ShadowStray_ The thing is, that in life one may not necessarily suffer, because of sin. Yahushua, the son of the Almighty dies, although he is sinless. Yes, he is resurrected later, but that does not mean he does not have to suffer. The poor Lazarus who suffered, ends up in Heaven and the rich man goes to Hell.
      You cannot view sin through secular lens, because, then sin loses its weight. The problem with sin is, that it is open rebellion against the Almighty. When one sins, the first one owns an apology to is YaHUaH and not the person (or thing) one sinned against.

    Do you think that the name 'Dan' is more precisely translated as 'vindicate'? Judge is more general term, I think, in English. I would be interested to know if the Hebrew root word 'Dan' is used to both indicate to Judge, as in prove the guilt of, or to Vindicate, to free from allegation or blame? Or both equally, depending on the context. Or is there another word in Hebrew, not related to the word "Dan" to convey the verb to Judge, as in weigh the evidence to determine the truth or convict the guilty,

      It seems the precise meaning of Zebulun is somewhat unknown, since the root it's from only appears once in the Bible. Some versions translate it as 'honor' or as 'dwelling'. Thanks for this video. I think my comment will be the most interesting comment you read today, so I hope you can bear with me.
    FROM THE SESOTHO LANGUAGE OF SOUTH AFRIKA:
    REUBEN = REUBAENA (reh-oo-bah-eh-nah)
    MEANING | "we are his heartbeart"
    WHY | Reuben was born to the unloved Leah who said "now my husband will love me" because she had birthed his first child (Gen. 29:32), thus, she thought that the affections of his heart will now be catered towards her.
    SIMEON = SHEMAEONA (sheh-mah-eh-oh-na)
    MEANING | "angry at them"
    WHY | Simeon, or Shimeon, was named by Leah who was "hated" by her husband (Gen 29:33) due to being deceived by Laban, thus, Jacob was still "angry at them" (her and her family) for their treachery.
    LEVI = LEOA (leh-wah)
    MEANING | "a priest's divining bones position"
    WHY | Levi was named after his mother wanting to be "joined" to her husband after having 3 sons (Gen. 29:34). In traditional Basotho bone divination ("casting lots"), four bones are used, and the joining of the 3rd bone to the 4th bone has a significant meaning.
    JUDAH = EUTAU/E-U-TAU (eh-yoo-tao)
    MEANING | "it is you, the lion"
    WHY | The Israelites were a nation of 12 clans, and all clan fathers were assigned a totem comprising either an animal (Dan the snake, Judah the lion, Issachar the donkey, Benjamin the wolf, Naphtali the deer), an element of nature (Reuben the water, Zebulun the sea, Joseph the vine, Asher the maize), or a tool (Simeon & Levi, tools of killing). Judah was named by the totem given to him at birth, later revealed to be the lion (Gen. 49.9). All the other totems I mentioned are referenced in Genesis 49 as well.
    DAN = TANAE (tah-nah-eh | there's no "da" in this language)
    MEANING | "finished with him"
    WHY | Upon Dan's birth, Rachel named him on the basis that god had heard her cries and had finished judging her (Gen. 30.6).
    NAPHTALI = NAFETATLI (nah-feh-tat-lee)
    MEANING | "I have exceeded the noise"
    WHY | Naphtali got this name because Rachel saw his birth by her handmaiden as a prevailing over her sister's verbal assaults (Gen. 30:8).
    GAD = KGADI (kga-dee | "kg" sound = "chet" sound in Hebrew)
    MEANING | "to appear for an instant"
    WHY | Leah names Gad after the appearance of a troop of warriors passing by their encampment around the time of his birth (Gen. 30:11).
    ASHER = ASERA (ah-seh-rah)
    MEANING | "it is an army" or "it is a troop"
    WHY | Asher is mentioned as being born quickly after Gad (Gen. 30:12), implying that they may have been twins. As the second twin is being born, the troop that appeared around Gad's birth (Gen. 30:11) is still passing by. Asher is then named after the troop.
    ISSACHAR = HAIS-SEKA-RAKA (ha-ee-seh-kah-rah-kah)
    MEANING | outpaced & arrived before the mandrake Seka doll
    WHY | Issachar was named by Leah after coming to an agreement with Rachel that, in exchange for Leah taking her spot with their husband, she would give Rachel a mandrake (Gen. 30:15). Basotho women who are barren have a magick doll they carry called a "Seka" to induce birth, and mandrakes, due to their human-like appearance, are thought to possess supernatural powers when kept as a doll. Leah named him Hais-SEKA-raka (Issachar) by saying that his birth had "outpaced" the magick of the mandrake-formed Seka doll made by Rachel.
    ZEBULON = SEBULELANA (seh-boo-leh-lah-nah)
    MEANING | "it is open for another"
    WHY | At Zebulon's birth, Leah expressed desire for her husband to live with her (Gen. 30:20), implying that she lived separate from him. With this new birth, she is still leaving the door "open" for her husband to join her regardless of his hatred against her.
    JOSEPH = HOSEFA (ho-seh-fa)
    MEANING = "it is one who gives"
    WHY | After her mandrake ritual (Gen. 30:15), the cries of Rachel's child-inducing amulet caught the ears of YAH, and he finally opened her womb to bear her first child. Thus, Joseph was named "the one who gives" because YAH had finally given her a non-surrogate son.
    BENJAMIN = BENYAMANE (ben-yah-mah-neh)
    MEANING | "a bright flash of lightning"
    WHY | Benjamin was named shortly after YAH appeared to Jacob (Gen. 35:9), whose appearances are described several times to include extreme brightness and flashes of lightning (Ex. 19:16, Ex. 20:18, Jer. 10:13).

      Hebrew was required for me in college, the alphabet wasn’t too difficult to learn as a nonnative in my opinion. The thing that helped me the most was realizing how the Hebrew letters are related to the Latin alphabet where you have AB.D you have דבא and where you habe LMN there’s נמל. And like the Latin alphabet the sounds the Hebrew letters make are tied to their name, with the exception of the silent ones. But with it being a related alphabet, the names of the letters and their shapes are also related to their Latin counterparts which makes it easier. Having that explain to me helped me understand the alphabet fairly quickly.
      Tbh, it only took me a couple weeks to learn to sound out words and read the script, even though I still have no clue what most words actually mean lol. The alphabet is definitely the easiest part of y’all’s language

    Did you ever notice that the names Yisrael, Leah, Rachel, Zilpah and Bilhah all contain a lamed?
    ל = 30 = יהודה
    ישראל = 541 = ראשי יהודה
    Some of Yehudah's brothers names also contain a lamed
    לוי
    זבלון
    נפתלי

      Thanks for asking! The only name I'm sure on is Rachel, which means 'sheep' in Hebrew.
      I'm not sure where the other names come from, and the sources I looked at sometimes contradict each other, but here's what I found:
      Leah is generally agreed to mean 'weary' or 'delicate', Bilhah may mean 'unworried' and Zilpah 'frailty'.
      Hope that helps!

      It says God didnt like Leah being neglected ( hated has harsher meaning today. It used to mean something milder. As Yeshua said "He who doesnt hate their parents and follow me" simply could mean to prefere I would guess but am not sure ) so He opened her womb and closed Rachels. In the end only Joseph and Bejamin come from Rachel out of 12

      I see what you're getting at, but that wouldn't be a correct interpretation because 1) the name is of Egyptian origin, of uncertain meaning, and 2) in the Hebrew spelling there is no yod (י) to make the name Yah (as well as other letters being different). I hope that helps! :)
