Not what you want to hear, but it depends on the brand, it depends on how much money you personally need / want out of the franchise, etc. One thing that is generally required for your franchise to be passive, is growth. You need to scale the business so that you have the flexibility and capital to hire the right person to run it for you. For instance, I have a COO running my 33 automotive franchises and spend very little time focused on them.
