  • Khmer Hot Pot AKA "Ya-Hon"
    Receipt for 4
There are three parts to making this dish: Condiments (beef, Seafood, and Vegetables plates), Noodle, and Ya-Hon Sauce.
    Part 1: Creating Your Condiments
    Beef and Sea food
½ lb. of shrimp: clean, peel, and devein
½ lb. of squid: clean and cut into bit size
2 lbs. of beef steak: washed and then thinly sliced.
Store the seafood and beef into separated container then place inside refrigerator, combine them 10 minutes before serving.
    Vegetables
1 pack of mushroom: washed, then cut into quarters
2 lbs. of baby bak choy: clean and cut in half
2 lbs. of water spinach "da-goun": trim at the end then in half
2 lbs. spinach: washed 3 time to eliminate dirt
Place the veggies in a colander to dry.
    Part 2: Noodle
4 batches of Tomoshiraga Somen noodle, 1 batch per a person.
Cook for 10 or until done, if the noodles are sticking together, let them cook a little longer. Cooking should not extend more than 15 min. Form small serving batches and place inside a colander. Best served chilled.
    Part 3: Saucing it up
1 can of coconut milk, simmer high until the aroma fills the air, about 5 minutes.
¼ cup of Chinese bbq sauces
4 cans of COCO rico soda
    3 tbs of fish sauce
    ½ tsp. sugar
    ½ tsp. salt
    ½ msg (optional)
Cook the mixture for 10 to 15 minutes on low. Then place into the hot pot, once the hot starts to boil add in 2 tbs of crush peanut.

Coco Rico is coconut flavored soda, it's like 7-up soda, but instead it has coconut flavoring. You can buy them at any Asian supermarket. Your English is very good. Can't wait to try making this. Looks delicious!!

I am so hungry looking at this. The best yahon is my mums. Better than all my aunties. In France they use parsley as one of the greens, and add alot more chopped peanuts than we would in Australia. My mum uses only watercress, trokuon and spey as the vegetables, no mushrooms. She includes mussels, prawns, squid and sometimes crab as the seafood component, and of course beef. Oh...and why has this had 28 dislikes? What's with all the fucked up people disliking this?

Wow, I've never seen anyone use coco rico soda. How does it taste. Thinking of ideas for my white in-laws for Christmas this year.

My mom uses coco rica! And it tastes amazing she even uses it when she makes fish sauce for spring rolls. You really don't taste the soda.

I have Yao-hon sauce so can I use this in stead of Barbecue sauce? Another question is the Rico. What is it exactly? Is there any alternatives if I can't find it? Thank for your tutorial. :)

Is this sweet? Just wondering because there's a lot of coconut added.

I don't think its too sweet, but if you don't like it you can take it out and you won't miss that much

It has a "sweetness". But it's not like super sweet. It makes the shrimp taste just wonderful. The only way I can describe it is the flavor of coconut, but same level of sweetness that crab legs have. You don't taste the sweet coconutty flavor as much in the beef or lettuces, we used onion too. But the only thing that really takes on the flavor of the sauce is the shrimp I feel. Otherwise it's mainly to cook in.
