Alex Smith is an amazing human being, this message is just amazing, such deep reflection into life and the game of football. I was never a fan of his, but he is obviously one of the great quaterbacks, a huge heart, a huge determination. I am just in awe of his talent and intelligence. Godspeed.

Alex smith was one of the few QBs that actually came back from an injury like that and I applaud this man for all the efforts to move with patience and courage to recover and reconnect with a game that brought him so much success not just in wealth but in lessons learned as well.

He started to snap out of it towards the end there when we finally made the playoffs In The harbaugh era. But he was succeeded by kap. When he went to Kansas City I was rooting for him and y'all in the afc.

As a Niners fan, he always put the team before anything, even during its most dysfunctional times. But he stayed the course and was professional.
The Sunday night game against the Eagles, when Coach Singletary went off on him on the sidelines, and then also hearing the fans at the stick chant, "we want Carr".........that was the lows of the lows.
But Harbaugh believed in him, even though later he eventually replaced him.
Moreso, when he got us to the playoffs, he was clutch with, "the grab".
He never costed us a playoff game neither. He proved he was a #1 pick, and all it took was some good coaching around him to help out that process.
Harbaugh started it, and Andy Reid was readily able to carry most of his play book with him under center.
    Godspeed, Alex
    #11 always!

I'm a lifetime 49ers fan, and have always liked and respected Alex Smith. He had a tough time in SF, having to learn a new coaching style and offensive program just about every season. It always angered me when the media, fans and even the team tried to blame him for the 9ers problems. Nonetheless, he kept his head down, never complained and was always a class act. I've enjoyed watching his career and wish him all the best in the next phase of his life. Given what he did in KC, and the kudos Mahomes gives him for being a great mentor, maybe he has a future as a QB coach? All the best to him!

Thank you given your fans and team mates all you had on and off the field. You are a true leader and we as fans will miss you but we also want the best for you and your family so ride off into the sunset with your head held high and a life to be proud of so enjoy it we love you and God bless you. By the way you would be a great coach with football IQ you have and would love to see you if you do talk to Andy and come help the Chiefs. Andy will retire someday and it would be so great to see you grow in coaching to become the HC of the Chiefs one day. I'm selfish and want you for my team because I don't want to have to face a team you would be coaching. LOL

Of course he didn’t listen to me. For alex, one more season was enough, he had proved what he needed to prove, for himself and anyone who doubted him, and after this season he retired. People always think of us as rivals, but he was one of the very few I liked, and even fewer that I respected. He remains the only person I envy. - Patrick maholmes
