I started this ‘ICM’ 41 years ago on 35mm film. Back then i used a high street store to develop my film , on occasion they sent negatives back and no prints saying the whole 36 shots were unusable. I had to then tell them to print off any shots i sent in and to not try adjust them. 2 years after i joined the military and soon became a photographer for them and they taught me how to develop film etc freeing me up to develop my own abstract films. One huge tip i have over the years is to use BULB mode. Hope this helps. I am now an artist painting abstracts of music in oil paints as i see music in colours. When i got my first digital camera blow my mind and opened massively the work i could do
I have been teaching my junior photography students this for years it helps them develop artistic freedom. I learnt it from light painting, and using the zoom effect. Thankyou for such clarity on the subject. I did not even know it had its own abbreviation.
Excellent video Daniel! I’ve been watching a number of other ICM videos lately but learned more actual, usable technique from this than all the others combined.
Absolutely wonderful video, beautiful images and the best part is explanation.Very easy to understand for a novice like me.I will try and hope to get some some good images.Thank you so much once again.Wishing you a very happy new year.
Hi Daniel, I like the abstract nature of ICM and have produced a couple that I liked, it is a fun side to creating our own art, zoom blur can produce some interesting images too just twist a zoom lens as you take the shot instead of the panning motion. Take care, all the best Tim
I have recently tried a few seascape motion blur photos at sunset and managed to get a mixture of soft pastel colours. I had never considered moving my camera in a different direction than a horizontal sweep. Your video has broadened my thoughts about different subject to capture motion blur images. Thank you for this brilliant video
I loved your images in ICM photography, particularly the ocean scenes and the mountains. I would be very interested in a video about post processing of ICM images.
Thanks Lisa, I'm going to work on an editing video as well. I tend to approach editing completely different to my general landscape photography thanks to the abstract nature of ICM I am more bold with pushing the settings, especially contrast, dehaze and saturation. Hope this helps for now and I will get on to that video soon 👍🏻
I have really enjoyed watching your video, I have only recently discovered ICM and have taken some (I think) very interesting and exciting shots . As I suffer from Essential Trembling ( which is not at all "Essential " ) Or so I thought! However, ICM is the perfect medium to deal w ith the shakes. I love your work and have found your advice very useful. Thank you.
Thank you very much Daniel for this very clear and well structured tutorial and these beautiful pictures. Especially those taken at the mountain ranges are really spectacular in my opinion. I like them very much! These colours… great inspiration!
I like these images. They remind me of French Impressionism type paintings which I also like. I want to try this in the city with hustle and bustle, skylines, traffic, etc. I'm assuming you turn off the image stabilization in the camera.
Hi, I really enjoyed your video and am excited to have a go. A few years ago I took a whole series of similar images at the seaside that worked out really well. The main difference was that I was panning with a wave, with my camera on a tripod, so certain parts of the wave were in focus, with blurred movement of the rest of the water. Not sure if I’m able to add an example here or not? Anyway I’m heading off to the local woods asap.
Daniel I love this video thank you. However I do see that some images seem sharper than others. If the image is too blurry, it hurts the eyes. Any ideas on getting motion and somewhat sharp images?
Excellent David 😊. It's a lot of fun, I always end up taking retaking images over and over because they look so different until I get the exact balance of colours and movement for the image I had in mind 👍🏻

Beautiful pictures, thank you for sharing the images and approach.
Great tutorial. Very helpful
Nicely done. I hope to try ICM even if I am there for a typical sharp landscape. Good video.
Hope you're having some fun with ICM, as long as you're at a location already you might as well play around with ICM! 😄
