In his first fight in Shipuuden, he uses fire and water against Naruto and Sakura. But one or two arcs later the whole "elements"-system is implemented and they say you only can use a jutsu whos element you posses (for example Sasuke only being able to use fire and lightning) But that said...Kakashi shouldn't be able to copy any jutsu that isn't lightning or earth. And IIRC he never did after the elements were introduced. So did the creator just fuck this one up quite a bit or is his Sharingan just exempt from this rule?

Remember that Shikamaru in the war arc, asked the earth village guy to teach everyone the handsigns for a basic wall, trying to stop the juubi bijudama. So, in order to use a technique, affinity to said element greatly helps you to learn more advanced jutsus, you can in theory learn an A rank windstyle jutsu even if you have no affinity for wind release, but it will take you years to learn it (not master it) that is why everyone is focusing on their element release.

This battle set the standard for what a fight between two high level jonin should be like, both Kakashi and Zabuza at this point were definitely among the elite of Jonin but at this point neither of them were on the level of the insanely powerful people we saw later in the series.
Now everyone throwing big explosive bombs, they sometimes make big damage and sometimes do nothing (almost always do nothing). Someone uses a few boring jutsus then runs out of chakra while other guy uses tons of op jutsus but still stands like a boss. OG Naruto was so good
The Zabusa fight is a good example of good writing. It took 2 exceptionally skilled Genin to even remotely manage to just irritate/surprise Zabusa enough to just cancel a single technique... they had absolutely no chance in a real 1 vs 3 battle against Zabusa, all they could do was trying to survive and free Kakashi... and then Kakashi beating Zabusa afterwards. Kakashi is easily High Jonin/near early Hokage level , so it makes sense for him to overpower Zabusa. In this time Power actually meant something... until it was powercrept to hell and back Dragonball style.
Zabuza never had a chance really. If his clone kills Sasuke or Sakura or just wounds badly Naruto himself, this will only let Nine tails chakra out, and Zabuza’s clone will be erased, and after that original Zabuza too.

That and Naruto wouldn't be as skilled or level headed as Zabuza in his rage; Zabuza would most likely retreat after killing the bridge builder, which is his whole mission anyways.

Back when Naruto was all about technical fighting, utilizing ninja tools as effective weapons, doing insane dodging and using jutsus like magic. Now it's Super Saiyan and fighting aliens.
So sad that we never saw more use of those ninja weapons or a complex strategies mixed with ninja skills. This first part of Naruto felt really like a real Ninja stories.
Kakashi was such a boss. Even when his opponent was stronger he fought with his life on the line and was going to get something meaningful out of the altercation always. My favorite character
Can we just take a Moment to recognize how much of a complete badass Kakashi is not just speaking in a manner of physical strength but tactically as well. I consider him the Batman of the Naruto Universe with the League of Shadows being the Anbu, Oroochimaru being Ra's Al Ghul with the whole immortal arc, Robin aka Nightwing being Naruto, and Obito being Jason Todd and becoming Red Hood

They REALLY made the Sharingan overpowered. Like seriously I get it's a strong ability but at least this era of Naruto was able to convey that without making it the center of the fucking universe.
Imagine this scene to be a flashback of Naruto telling his son how they had their first real mission and how he, Sasuke and Sakura safed the Rokudaime Hokage of one of the Seven swordsman of the mist. Amazing.
Meanwhile Haku is secretly watching from a distance. Analyzing Kakashi, perfectly deducing his fighting style, then informing Zabuza who was then able to form effective counter-measures. Absolute genuis. Haku essentially had Sharingan level intelligence.
Sasuke is easily the best character in the series, Yh but even with zabuza forming counter measures, he still got humiliated by kakashi again and the second time was arguably more humiliating than the first

This fight was just a raw act of smart decision making and jutsu knowledge. You could literally feel the psychological tension when watching this for the first time. I am sad they didn't keep this whole "strategy" theme and they just went for the "basically this guy just knows stronger jutus, find a way to beat him."
I honesty lost track of the Sharingan after a while. It became this immensely complicated peice of exposition. I miss those days when I got excited as fuck to see Sasuke get the third black prong (I forgot what it's called) in his Sharingan. Now, it keeps on changing and changing and I don't even know what the Sharingan is even more.

Can we just take a Moment to recognize how much of a complete badass Kakashi is not just speaking in a manner of physical strength but tactically as well. I consider him the Batman of the Naruto Universe with the League of Shadows being the Anbu, Oroochimaru being Ra's Al Ghul with the whole immortal arc, Robin aka Nightwing being Naruto, and Obito being Jason Todd and becoming Red Hood

Meanwhile Haku is secretly watching from a distance. Analyzing Kakashi, perfectly deducing his fighting style, then informing Zabuza who was then able to form effective counter-measures. Absolute genuis. Haku essentially had Sharingan level intelligence.
Sasuke is easily the best character in the series, Yh but even with zabuza forming counter measures, he still got humiliated by kakashi again and the second time was arguably more humiliating than the first

This fight was just a raw act of smart decision making and jutsu knowledge. You could literally feel the psychological tension when watching this for the first time. I am sad they didn't keep this whole "strategy" theme and they just went for the "basically this guy just knows stronger jutus, find a way to beat him."

I honesty lost track of the Sharingan after a while. It became this immensely complicated peice of exposition. I miss those days when I got excited as fuck to see Sasuke get the third black prong (I forgot what it's called) in his Sharingan. Now, it keeps on changing and changing and I don't even know what the Sharingan is even more.
