As a native Kentuckian, we experience all forms of winter and severe weather yet have absolutely no clue how to drive in it!!!

One thing I love about southern Ohio is that ODOT keeps their roads clean in the winter.
I had an old timer tell me years and years ago how to spot black ice. When your driving and the vehicles around you are throwing mist from the vehicles and all of a sudden you don’t see the mist you’re on black ice
I was always told the same. If other vehicles tires aren’t spitting up mist or anything it’s ice or well below freezing point or both. If you can see it spraying out from other vehicles or trucks then the road must still be wet

I’m from Kentucky and the reason the state doesn’t do much during winter weather in my opinion is because we don’t typically get much snow or ice in general. Then when it does happen it’s a complete surprise.

Little player tip, go into SB for a 2 hour pause in that mess. It might not be “technically” legal, but it’ll save you in a jam, and save your 70 hour clock as well.
You don't need to be in SB, two off duty will pause the 14, as long as you follow it up with at 8 hours in the sleeper later

Saturday, I almost got caught by a tornado in Tennessee if I had been in my truck I 'wouldI was in have died. I was on m way to Texas to inspect and purchase two 2016 Kenworth T680 manuals (10 speeds). Let me put it to you I had one of my drivers with me, as I went around
uphill there was a tornado. I spun the car around and hit about 120-130 mph. I never want to be that close ever again!

Yeah March 14th was a bad day here in Kentucky there is a lot of wrecks I missed all that traffic

Dave, on Samsara, open the “return to rest” / “Open driving screen” tab then tap the moon. It will change your background to black so it’s not lighting up the cab at night

Frankly, I think when you get stuck in traffic because of an accident or simply road construction and you’re in a semi with radio, tv, computer, fridge, food, phone….there’s no point in complaining. It’s a much better situation than the four wheelers, or those stuck in day cabs for hours. Nice video by the way. Drive safe.
It is much better but it's still frustrating because you're sitting there not making any money. The guys in the day cabs are likely being paid by the hour. And screw the four-wheelers lol
Well you have no clue then, he absolutely has a point to complain we don't get paid sitting in traffic, days can drivers are usually by the hour,
A lot don’t get paid unless the wheels are turning man. Makes perfect sense to complain. Even being a Teamster it can be a pain in the ass waiting for scale to kick in.

I live south of lexington near pulaski county, and I can attest that Kentucky will not salt while the snow/ice storm is bad, they do minimum salting before a storm and will not touch the roads unless it's safe to do so, Makes no sense to a point i Know..

Dave, non-driver question here...what happens if your clock runs out while you're sitting in something like that?
Not a driver either but i understand there is a two hour extenuating circumstances extension that might apply or they can possibly use PC (personal conveyance) to get to nearest safe place.
Me being a truck u can use personal conveyance to get to like a rest area if your clock runs out shippers I have used it before because my clock run out just as I was getting leaving the shipper
Then you will have a moving violation some companies allow pc personal conveyance to the nearest truck stop or rest area some companies allow 3 hrs and 8 minutes some 50 miles a day what's messed up is that if you are buying the truck going on home time alot of trucking companies turn off pc
Some states have laws where if a driver is able to exit his seat and do other things inside of his cab he has to right down the time so he can minus it out on his log book. I have had to do that a few times. I was delivering a D8 Dozer on my low boy trailer and the ripper than came with it. My weight was well over the legal limit but I had a permit and 2 hours before my permit expired I ended up just applying for a new one and misusing the time lost and miles lost so I could catch up to get to where I was going.
There is an exception a driver can utilize called adverse driving conditions.

Miss the red on the truck and if you had a choice would you drive a kw like you had before over the Volvo or do you like the Volvo better. I’ve just never liked the Volvo trucks. I drive a freightliner cascade. And it’s alright. Seats could be better.

When I was on the road, I was fortunate enough not to have been caught up in anything like that for four hours. What can you do about your time when you're stuck that long. There's a real possibility you can run out of time. Do you take the hit at the checks or do some DOT guys cut ya a break in those instances?

the reason the first truck jack knife is because he was turning and going fast and started slipping on the ice on the bridge so when he exited the bridge his truck was sideways then when it came on to the dry pavement it launched the truck where it was pointing then boom into the grass it went.

Well, you go over and annotate that you were in traffic and had to go to a safe haven, that's the legal way...but most just go on PC but technically you can't do that because you can't advance the load....
