to the depts with Engiatlantis, to the heights with Engiskypea. From the trash of the architects Poocano to the marveouls Pokeball District. Matt is really going into all directions he can with the power of engineering. Makes me think if there's a mod for City Skylines that allows you to go into *spaaaaaaace*
I love this! This type of city is the reason I bought Cities: Skylines. I'm addicted to building ridiculous cities on different plateaus that link together via cable cars or inside dormant volcanoes and I love watching when you make stuff like that. The wedge city, for instance, was really satisfying to watch. I can't wait to see you get really MC Escher with your urban planning!
Quite surprised at 13:30 RCE created a new poop pond (soon to be poop river), but didn't change the flooded railway into a bridge across it. A rare missed bridge opportunity!
I think the some of the roads end up glitching through the bottom of the map because the curves/super ultra sharp turns usually mess with the terrain height...Or it's just a bug with one of the anarchy mods or something, you never know
this is part of it. i believe it is also the fact the terrain height is also already at its lower limit and the road is lowered beneath the terrain height. if he used move it to align all the nodes to terrain height it should fix the void.
I did something similar, but you could only get to industrial sections of a city by rail or subway. This worked well for quite a while. However what can happen is various city services (police, ambulance, etc, but mostly garbage) may spawn even if they can't actually get to a building. It's like the game tries to find the quickest service to send, but if the quickest service is an infinite distance away it will start to send them to the nearest waypoint then despawn the vehicle. So after a few death waves of hearses causing city wide traffic jams the city service dispatch ai gets caught into a loop of continually sending vehicles to destinations they can never get to. The only way I was able to permanently fix the problem in my city was just to connect the industrial areas by highway. I figured learning how to manage the truck traffic was going to be more fun than managing the derpy city dispatch ai.
I remember long long ago when I was always caught off guard by things turning into knobs in RCE videos, now no matter what he's creating or whats going on i'm always searchin for em = ). And I notice them in my daily life as well RCE has changed my life.
Watching all the planes land and the sounds added made me absolutely crease up, I couldnt stop laughing, then the doughnutmobile made me laugh even harder 🤣
You need to make the floating city a district and add like all the rich people things to the district! Like solar panels, no tax, biking, free transit and much more!
I'm curious if you can put a cable car going up to that new area. Obviously the construction workers used the same thing you do to get buildings built: mods!
Sees the airplanes are having trouble and reduces the area they have to land. Logic. Sadly there's no way to terraform in Tropico 6, otherwise I would suggest trying that since they have those gondola things as a transportation option. Not as efficient as planes, but probably cheaper to ride. Plus you could always have a slightly lower city for the workers that is actually IN the clouds for maximum inconvenience.
I love how Matt laments that the highest level houses have little pointless bits of Architecture on them right after building a bridge for no reason at all.
This feels like the ideal area for a Plazas and Promenades pedestrian zone. You can do zone shenanigans to keep the trash disposal down among the plebs with the service buildings and keep filthy cars away from the roads. Pedestrian tram roads have just been released, so you can even keep them!
an engineer should acknowledge what the real strongest shape is (the triangle or circle, or variations[eg. 3d versions]), and the fact that there are multiple.
To be fair, airports typically have multiple runways running in different directions. This allows pilots to land going against the wind instead of having a cross wind. With only one runway if there is a cross wind, the pilot will have to fly in a diagonal so the wind pushes them along direction of the runway. So it wasn’t the pilots fault, it was the architect type layout of the airport. (*gasps like a soap opera.) But you aren’t an engineer for airlines so you can have a pass. I’m not an engineer for an airline either, but I recently watched a long video on the reason runways are numbered the way they are. Great video as always!!
It would be cool to build a poo damn similar to the poocano, with purifiers to clean, but instead of damns going down, it’s one at the top that turns into a waterfall and flows into the main river.
Honest question just because I'm curious: How much of Engitopia is RCE the RUclipsr vs. Matt the Gamer? Like, if you were playing purely for your own enjoyment, offline without an audience to entertain, would you do anything differently? Focus more on the functionality/practicality of your city? Micromanage utilities for optimum efficiency? Spam even more of the map with de-monetisingly obscene strong shapes while giggling maniacally to yourself in the dark? Or are we seeing exactly what you'd do anyway, just with some editing and commentary? Either way I'm here for it, love your work!
SUGGESTION: ANATOMICALLY-CORRECT STRONGEST-SHAPE CITY Build a city where each of the parts of the city is located in, and is functionally similar to, an anatomically-correct diagram of a strongest shape. Bonus points if you can do the entire thing without refering to anything by its biological function, whilst still giving a functional description of the internals of a strongest shape.
I love how he started with a triangle, the second strongest shape... and manages to get distracted with a bridge and somehow ends up making the triangle into the strongest shape... xD
MATT, I can't believe you destroyed such a marvel of engineering as a HOLE IN THE FABRIC OF REALITY ITSELF, just so its display of masterful engineering wouldn't scare away ARCHITECTS SHAME
with move it you can click on a node or select nodes then hit ctrl H and click on another node that you want to set the height of the original node to. might save you from deleting roads in the future :D
RCE: "Why do max level buildings have a stupid bit of architecture out the side? What's the point of that?" Also RCE: builds a strong shaped airport with terminals with highly unnecessary curves unconnected to the runways and taxis.

If you build a heliport up there, and if you have one down there, you can run a helicopter bus up to the city in the clouds.
